They've had a lot of bad luck. Then when they finally have a decent team he gets hurt and misses the entire season. The Angels ownership is F tier and he's not concerned with winning anymore so he is in it to maximize profits through concessions. The Angels have a very loyal fanbase which hurts them because they aren't going to boycott to demand better teams. You've started to see more fans boycott but not like LA Galaxy levels of boycotts. I'm not a big baseball fan and I'm not even a big sports cards guy but it fascinates me that people were so sure that this couldn't happen. His card prices went through the ceiling and people were talking about it like it was a "safe investment" (lol) when he always had injury problems, the team almost always sucked, he never looked anywhere near a meaningful-to-casuals record like single-season home runs. I don't think the speculation even stopped after Ohtani, a far more unique player with a better story, showed up on the same team and they were somehow still bad
