And don’t use the >baseball is a team sport excuse, no shit- but there’s just no way, no freakin way a guy who’s supposedly the greatest ever at his sport has ONE SINGULAR post season appearance in 14 years with ZERO wins

Let’s ignore the wins for a second- you mean to tell me you only got there ONCE?? That is simply unprecedented for a supposed “GOAT” level athlete, find me one GOAT tier athlete that has virtually no playoff resume in ANY sport- including baseball! They don’t exist, they’ve all at the very least made it to the big game even if they didn’t win or have a losing record in it.

Can someone please explain why boreball fans championed this loser for like 20 years when it’s obvious hes just a good stats guy that can’t get it done?? Actually scratch that, he can’t even get to the point where he HAS to get it done. I don’t rate boreball MVPs so to me it’s like calling Carmelo anthony the best NBA player ever

He's just really good but I think he gave up caring a long time ago and it's just been a job for him for awhile. He just wants to put up his numbers, get his paycheck, and end his season early so he can go to eagles games.

*Pulls up chair*
Let me tell you about Arte Moreno...

The money was enough. He got his bag. He is content to play baseball, collect his millions, and play for the Angels. He's a simple man. He isn't chasing the hardware nor the fame nor the glory. If a championship happens, fine. If not, that's fine too. That's his outlook. We, the fans, are so accustomed to players of his caliber demanding a trade if the team isn't working hard to build a championship roster around him. This guy couldn't care less about that. He's just happy to play and get rich. Simple as.

I used to feel exactly the same about the guy, especially with how much reddit fellated this nigga about being a GOAT tier baseball player but with nothing to show for it except for nice stats in a shit team and division.
But then I realized that he's kinda based for only playing for a paycheck and living a comfy life in a nice area of California, not giving a fuck about legacy or rings. Of course this lack of drive discards him from any GOAT discussion lol but if he truly doesn't give a shit about the sport and is able to live a comfy life collecting millions under minimal pressure then good for him.

One player can’t get a team to the playoffs. You need a strong lineup and a good starting rotation
>>
>>154133166
The Angels were missing the playoffs with MVP seasons Ohtani and injury-riddled but still All-Star-level Trout. If you have a generational talent and a once-in-a-century player, maybe "baseball is a team sport" isn't a meme you brainlet
>>
>>154133166
Ohtani was in the same situation but left for a serious team and won rings. It's impossible for 1 player to carry a team to playoffs in MLB.
>>
>>154134229
How do you fumble the roster comstruction THAT bad around those two though?
>>
Carmelo shouldn't be your comparison, Minnesota Kevin Garnett should be.

As an Angels fan I'll explain it this way. He can only do so much. His pitchers either gets massive injuries, the yips, death (yes two have died), or just plain suck. They've had a lot of bad luck. Then when they finally have a decent team he gets hurt and misses the entire season. The Angels ownership is F tier and he's not concerned with winning anymore so he is in it to maximize profits through concessions. The Angels have a very loyal fanbase which hurts them because they aren't going to boycott to demand better teams. You've started to see more fans boycott but not like LA Galaxy levels of boycotts. The Galaxy fans won their team a championship through the boycott

Nice b8 m8. Got me thinking that being Mike Trout would be pretty nice. He plays the game at a top level, gets paid big, and with a huge holiday break every year. This sealed it for me, he’s the GOAT.

He's the GOAT because in that timeframe he had the highest WAR.
You're too stupid to understand

This moment destroyed the Angels and was proceeded by Ohtani leaving 8 months later and the Angels having the worst 3 year stretch in team history including the worst season ever

I'm not a big baseball fan and I'm not even a big sports cards guy but it fascinates me that people were so sure that this couldn't happen. His card prices went through the ceiling and people were talking about it like it was a "safe investment" (lol) when he always had injury problems, the team almost always sucked, he never looked anywhere near a meaningful-to-casuals record like single-season home runs.

I don't think the speculation even stopped after Ohtani, a far more unique player with a better story, showed up on the same team and they were somehow still bad

This trout swims against the stream and cannot ever spawn championships.

Bro Trout the first 8 years of his career was head and shoulders the best player in MLB by a mile. There hadn't been a guy like that since Bonds and he was a gold glove outfielder making insane plays. It wasn't until about 2021 that he fell off a bit. That's a solid 9 season run right there and a sure fire hall of famer. I got to see him play more than anyone in this thread. The guy did stuff that was magical. I don't give a shit what your cardboard box hobby says
