Yashin must have been extraordinary for his day and age, and perhaps he protruded from his respective era more than anyone did before and after him. We can't say even that. And who the fuck actually watched games of him? Even highlight scenes?
If you teleport him into today and put him in today's game, he's obviously shit. But that's unfair as well, of course. I think he seems fairly overrated because a lot of people still seem to spout his name as the undisputed GOAT despite probably not having seen any footage of him. But he must have been one of the best ever by most metrics - in the context of his time. We cannot say more

Nobody knows. There's nothing to watch of him, but everyone agrees he was the GOAT. So when people were saying that, obviously he must have actually been the GOAT. But has any goalkeeper since then been better than him? I haven't heard anyone who saw Lev Yashin play say, "Okay, this new guy is the GOAT now because he's better than Lev Yashin was", but that doesn't really prove anything.
