They have impressive running culture. But „so much better“? Japan has one marathon gold at the Olympics - won by a South Korean colonial subject in 1936. And they have one marathon gold at the World Championships. Germany for example has a better medal tally (as do Italy, Argentina, Finland), and also a better national record - and yet it’s obviously nothing compared to the the onslaught of East African runners that has been taking place in the last decades
They don’t appear at all in the 10,000m and the 5,000m. It’s not like Japan is dominating running
