The International Federation for Equestrian Sports AKA Fédération équestre internationale AKA FEI oversees 6 great horse sports: Dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, show jumping, and vaulting.

Which one of those fine equine sports is your favorite? For me, it's dressage, the pinnacle of horsemanship.

Pic related: it's a horse doing some dressage

(there are other horse sports like horse racing or racing or riding bucking broncos, but those aren't overseen by the FEI)

I like watching horseys race, mostly a Japanese thoroughbred conniseur.
>>
I've never met someone who is into horse sports but all of them that I've seen appear to be the worst people on earth. Animal abusing gambling addicts who love gambling so much that they genuinely believe the horses are not being abused and that anyone involved cares about the animals' wellbeing.
>>
>>154176323
I have met exactly one person who is into horse racing (and nobody who likes any non-racing horse event). He is a habitual gambler, but only spends about $50/week on all gambling. He's a loser pushing 60, but genuinely loves horse racing even if he couldn't bet money on it. He's a huge animal lover and thinks the horses have the competitive spirit and love racing just as much as people. As someone who couldn't give two shits about it, I'm inclined to believe him.

First legs of the Japanese triple crown and triple tiara tours, the 3 big races every 3 year old colt and filly wants to get their hands on.
Its said the triple tiara or triple crown winner is set to define a generation of racehorses, the most prestigious race of the 6 is the Japanese Derby but the highest rated horses tend to be those who can will all 3.

The first leg of the mare Classic, Japanese version

The field is extremely stacked this time around, but seems like it boils down to Dream Core vs Star Anise. But this horse racing, and especially a Classic so anything can happen. Personally, I am longing for an Alankar victory
The race can be watched on YouTube, or at the “usual place”
kick .com/b01doghos
I am not an expert on keiba so you should ask more when the experts came
>>
>>154186948
Satsuki Sho - first leg of the Japanese Classic Triple Crown, 2000 meters (10 furlongs or around 1 and 1/4 of a mile) on Turf, 3-Year-Olds only, 1st Place earns 200,000,000 Yen (around 1.2 million US$).
It was first run in 1939 and is the Japanese equivalent of the English 2,000 Guineas. (Note that the original 2,000 Guineas is run at 1,609 meters, or one mile, about two furlongs shorter than the Satsuki Sho), it's the first step for achieving the Classic Triple Crown, something that was done only 8 times in history of Japanese horse racing
Outside of the prestige, the winner of the Triple Crown earns a bonus of 300,000,000 Yen (around 1.9 million US$)

Oka Sho - the equivalent of Satsuki Sho but for the Classic Triple Tiara (only fillies and mares can run in this), 1600 meters (8 furlongs or 1 mile) on Turf, 3-Year-Olds only, the winner earns 140,000,000 Yen (around 900k US$)
The Oka Sho was first contested in 1939, and is the Japanese equivalent of the English 1,000 Guineas.
A winner of the Triple Tiara earns a bonus of 100,000,000 Yen (around 600k US$)
Only 7 mares in Japanese racing history achieved The Triple Tiara

For some reason there is a sizable audience for Japanese horse racing (keiba) on this website so hopefully we can keep this as a general going forward
Of course, not only Japan’s but we are all interesting in the ridiculous speed competition of an one-toed, hoofed animal that for some reason always carries a mysterious bipedal meatsack on their back
>>
>>154190059
>For some reason
It's because of Umamusume, It adapts Japanese horse racing history in a very faithful way. People start playing for the silly concept and then just fall down the rabbit hole, though in my case it straight up became my main hobby. I started keeping track of HK, US, UK, Irish, French and Australian racing scenes, not just the Japanese one. I even go to my local racetrack
Horse racing is like crack

I think this Oka Sho is Star Anise's to lose for now, but i do not doubt Dream Core will shake things up, Alankar too i think Take is in good shape to ride lately, he only lost the Osaka Hai because Croix Du Nord is simply awesome with last bursts and Meisho Tabaru lost one of his horse shoes.

I just started getting interested in horse vrooms about a year ago, but I am extremely excited to see that a lot of anons on this board are also interested.
I'm a little concerned with how much hirse racing is predicated upon gambling, but I am going to try to focus on the sporting aspect and keep these threads going.
For me, it's Grand National and staple chase, but flat ovals are cool, too, if a bit short.
>>
>>154190407

Did you enjoy the Grand National today, anon?
>>
>>154191277
More than you could imagine.
I have rewatched it 3 times already.
THAT was a sporting event.
I have watched multiple past races before, too.
Sleep chase and Grand National are kino AF.
My big question is how did people get such retarded skittish animals the standard artillery barrages and cavalry charges?
>>
>>154191606
I've always assumed horsemanship and horse tactics in battle are quite a bit different from how we imagine them and how they're portrayed in movies. I honestly don't know tho
>>
>>154191796
Totally. But they have driven warfare since Alexander the Great and Gengis Khan to WWII.
I've ridden horses at summer camp and they're totally retarded. It's amazing that they can be trained to tolerate Chasseurs shooting carbines off their backs, let alone jumping obstacles for /sp/ort.
I love dogs, too, but they are more clearly obedient and retarded, so horse still intrigue me.

JP Horse racing:

https://en.netkeiba.com/ for lineups/pedigrees/etc.

The Oka Sho will be Hanshin Race 11. It's a race for 3YO fillies 1600 meters on turf. (In Japan and Europe, Turf races are considered more prestigious, whereas in North America and the Middle East the Dirt races are where the big time money and prestige go.

I think someone put the kick link further up the thread, it has japanese commentary, it's a feed from a Japanese racing channel that rotates between the tracks running that day.

For english commentary you have to find a pirate stream of Fanduel TV or Fanduel racing, which will rotate between different tracks throughout the world, usually only covers the japanese races from the main track, or some people have said you can see it on the JRA youtube, but i think it might be region locked.

there's also a site the jp players have put up where you can fantasy bet imaginary yen https://dacchi.gudnight.fyi/dashboard.html

Some extra info on the Oka Sho runners.
Star Anise
>Won an impressive victory in last year’s Hanshin Juvenile Fillies, earning the JRA Award for Best Two-Year-Old Filly.
>Her winning time in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies was tied with Ascoli Piceno (2023) as the fastest in the past 10 years.
>Recent examples of two-year-old champions going straight to win the Oka Sho include Sodashi (2020) and Liberty Island (2022).
Dream Core
>She claimed her first graded stakes victory in the Queen Cup.
>Her mother, Normcore, is a distinguished ohimba who won the 2019 Victoria Mile and the 2020 Hong Kong Cup
>This will be her first race outside the Kanto region, she has taken measures by arriving early at Ritto Training Center.
Garavogue
>She finished second in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies. Her estimated final three-furlong time was the fastest in the field, surpassing that of the winner, Star Anise.
>She finished ninth in the Queen Cup. But now she's back in Hanshin, where she has never missed the exacta.
>Her full brother, Danon Scorpion, won the 2022 NHK Mile Cup.
Festival Hills
>After winning the Fantasy Stakes, she was forced to skip the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies due to a fracture.”
>Her half-brother, Museum Mile, won last year’s Satsuki Sho and also took the Arima Kinen.

Why are there so many colonies around.

>random /v/ threads
They were banished to /vm/.
>>
>>154199695
We got kicked out of /v/, /vg/ is cancer and /vmg/ has their own small community we didn't want to eclipse
>>
If anyone's into the John Umamusume meme, Shin Believe, another hors own by Fujita is running the Umeda Stakes (Hanshin 12R) in 25 minutes (16:30JST)
>>154199699
Well, I'm just glad they found a permanent home instead of having to constantly dodge the jannies.

Wait until you heard the saga of the Umaroaches

Tl dr on the /v/ incident, Uma got semi-banned off of /v/ because after a year of it being the biggest thread in the board, the mods put their foot down and told us we were too big for the board and to find somewhere else. We have a different culture than /vg/ and if we all migrated there the thread would be uncomfortably fast, so we moved to /vm/ since /vmg/ has their own community too.

Nice! Will be tuning into it

any sites similar to keiba for US horses? i want to check out theirs before Kentucky Derby

>>154199727
how do you describe the culture? i know /umaJP/ follows the races a lot more, not too sure about others aside from /uma/ having too many schizos
>>
>>154199803
/v/ plays the game. Some dacchis are occasionally on /v/ too. /v/ma almost always be the fastest thread if it doesn't get deleted. Every CMs we make a room to decide who is the q/v/een of that CM. Almost every G1s even outside JP we also do reenactment races.
Not all /v/ma follows keiba, but everytime it get posted people will talk about it too.

/v/ma is just autistically on topic about number crunching and has some differences in thread in jokes and traditions.

Hobby horsing is unironically more of an actual sport than those meme competitions where the athlete is an horse.
