How do Americans decide which of the 4 sports to follow?
What your dad tells you to do?
Geography?
>>
>>154184330
They follow multiple clubs/teams
Generally they support the teams/clubs/franchises (im just gonna say teams for now) from the state they live in, maybe the city in some cases.
If they live in some really depopulated nothing state like say Montana then they just support whichever team is closest to where they live, thats how it goes from what ive understood from similar threads like this.
>>
Baseball starts when football ends and you use the melanin scale to pick between hoop and puck
>>
Real american only watch football and baseball
>>
>>154185327
I hereby propose renaming hockey to puckball. All in favor?
>>
>>154184330
Lot of people support all 4 if they live/from a state that has all 4. I’d say a persons favorite is usually what they played in high school. Almost everyone watches the NFL though.
>>
>>154184803
OP posted a question directed at americans, not sure why you would post this starvation induced favelian schizobabble.
>>
>>154184330
First sporting event I went to as a kid was a hockey game, been a fan of it ever since.
Don't care for football unless it's college. Fuck basketball. Baseball eventually bored me, too many games, games are too long.
I wish lacrosse was more popular.
>>
>>154184330
we have different sports throughout the year retard

>>

This>>154185498 I may not like most American sports but that particular feature is quite comfy.
>awww NFL is over... oh well Hockey playoffs start next week
O algo
>>
>>154184330
I follow whichever is being discussed more often because it makes the games feel larger.

mostly whichever teams the city/state has, the leagues don't really overlap that much.
>>
>>154186261
>nfl is played just for 5 months
what the absolute fuck, they have a 7 month break then? they could fit another season there
>>
>>154186467
The brain damage is already bad enough with a 7 month break, playing another season in that break would literally kill players.
>>
>>154186624
btw google ai says that
>The average NFL career lasts approximately 3.3 to 3.5 years
is that really true?
>>
>>154186692
Depends on position, but yeah. By the time a lot of these guys get to the NFL their bodies are so broken they only ever see their rookie contract. By then it's cheaper/easier to replace them with another rookie.
>>
>>154186692
yes, NFL teams can look very different in a span of 4 years.
>>
>>154184330
Baseball is played during the summer, football is played in autumn, and hockey and basketball are played during winter.
If you’re rich and white, you watch hockey; if you’re a wigger or a child, you watch basketball - you don’t watch both. If you don’t fall under either category, you just watch the NFL playoffs during the early winter months and go into hibernation before MLB opening day.
>>
>>154187603
>If you’re rich and white, you watch hockey
maybe in the north, in the south rich whites play golf and watch horse racing.
>>
>>154187725
Yeah, you’re right, but ai was only talking about the 4 sports OP was asking about. Also “baseball season” is extended in the south.
>>
>>154184330
You follow all 4 plus your MLS team if you like soccer, and usually you pick your dad's team or the local team. Also which team you pick you can tell someone's age. For example my teams

Lakers
Raiders
Angels
Kings
Galaxy
>>
>>154186692
Depending on position, taking hits is like getting in a car crash. It really takes a toll on your body. Running backs don't last long, but kickers usually last decades.
>>
>>154187883
only people who live in California or Miami watch MLS soccer THOUGH
>>
>>154188010
Nah Oregon, Washington and NYC too
>>
>>154186467
The lack of oversaturation is precisely why the NFL is the monster that it is. It makes every game legitimately meaningful for every coach, player, and fan. A hypothetical world where they can play as much as baseball would kill the urgency of sport and suck the fun out of each matchup.
>>
>>154186261
>softball and w*men sports
>no Indycar
Indybros it's so fucking over
>>
>>154187783

freudian slip?
>>
I usually follow NBA and MLB when it starts, I live in DC so i never really followed the commanders before last year and even then i only tune into a few games, with football (soccer) i just follow Man U since my dad watched them when i was a kid

This chart does leave out preseasons, so really NFL comes back in August rather than September. Otherwise, true football fanatics have the Draft in the offseason to busy themselves with. It's a pretty huge event with months of hype building up to it, last year's had 600k attendees over three days.
>>
>>154192149
>it's a HUGE event to talk about college football
>>
>>154188010
I watch USL Championship ackshually
>>
>>154184330
Hockey from October to April

Baseball from April to October

The other two sports are goy cattle for the masses.
>>
>>154184330
It's a long educational trip for young americans, it started with them being licked in the mouth by dogs but to sum it up kids and their dads watch videos of the shiniest, meanest and athletic blackz and decide which one gives em a Bonet or something
>>
>>154200158
Why do you think football and basketball are bad?
>>
>>154184330
In my day you just watch what dad watches because he controlled the remote and if it bores you just play vidya or go outside. I didnt care about watching sports until i was a teenager so i ended up just watching mainly football and some basketball. Basketball is harder to get into in est because the games are on retardedly late on weekdays. I tried getting into baseball and hockey when i moved out but i quickly found out why dad never watched it because theyre fucking boring. You forgot golf that is by far more worthy of the top 4 than hockey and it was something special with grandma and grandpa during tiger's early career

How? Buying players?
>>
>>154212376
Refs are told to make certain calls for certain players/teams. Holding is an easy call to make or ignore on every single play and it is a guaranteed 1st down. In basketball, they always give the big stars the benefit of the doubt. Hockey is arguably the opposite, with the top stars taking far more abuse to draw a call that a lesser player would get instantly. Baseball is by far the most fair now that ABS is cleaning up the worst umpires.
>>
>>154212612
>with the top stars taking far more abuse to draw a call that a lesser player would get instantly
The based thing is that it only happens to star players that play for canadian teams.
>>
Getting into baseball a lot in my 30s. You at least know players will try hard at their at bats and fly balls every game instead of the load management of basketball and football
>>
>>154213105
You don't remember Crosby getting shit on by Brandon Dubinsky because you're a fucking casual
>>
>>154213143
lol lmao even
>>
>>154213105
Nah not anymore. McDavid and Draisaitl get coddled by the refs like no other. There's a reason they're called Refmonton
>>
>>154186692
Someone once worked out in one of these threads the average NFL player's career in minutes, in terms of time on the pitch when the ball is in play. Can't remember the exact value but it was low, like 2/3 hours max.
>>
>>154213600
Edmonton is a tidy 26th in power play opportunities. Meanwhile, the Ducks have the number of points in the same number of games and are 3rd. Edmonton is too efficient on the power play so the refs actually fuck them over and call fewer power plays.
>>
>>154186261
>>154186467
There are so many NBA and MLB games, it's mental.
>>
>>154215220
That's a horrible excuse. In the playoffs Refmonton gets the most opportune soft penalties called in their favor
>>
>>154186261
April and October are generally the best months for sports since the weather isn't too hot and you got almost every league playing
>>
>>154186467
summer is Canadian Football season.
>>
>>154187725
other way around. up north, hockey is the sport of blue collar retards. down south only wealthy snowbird transplants watch it.
>>
>>154189852
if you grew up in the 80s-90s, The The Angels Angels of Anaheim were the Little Kid team because of the Disney connection. same with the Mighty Ducks.
>>
>>154212612
NBA invented entire new rules just to allow LeBron to cheat. all the 'gather/collect/euro step' nonsense is just travelling.
>>
>>154184330
If you're a fan of a team but all the players change teams eventually, what are you a fan of? The brand? The management?
>>
>>154216884
oh, and the Magic in the NBA too.
>>
>>154216912
the history of the franchise.
how is that any different from any other sport? how many Arsenal players from 1985 are still on the roster?
>>
>>154184330
You either grow up with something or you don’t. Or you get into something later, or you don’t. And then you probably support your city either way, just more passionately in some sports than in others
I assume it’s the same dynamic everywhere. It’s true for here as well
>>

Arsenal and football teams in general have local players that came up through the youth system like Saka and Dowman. American franchises draft players and then those players get replaced later on by other drafted players, very rarely are these drafted players from the area the team is in. Americans don't support team, they support brands.
>>
>>154217376
the whole "local lads having fun" thing hasn't been reality for top level soccer since the 1930s when it went full professional, don't delude yourself. maybe at bottom-tier amateur clubs, but 99% of people don't give a fuck about that. it's effectively beer league.
>>
>>154217129
>are black
NBA
>are not black, but support blacks
NFL
>are not black and do not support blacks, but pretend to
MLB
>are not black and openly do not support blacks
NHL
>>
>>154217129
baseball is pretty black, they just don't speak english
>>
>>154217448
there are more spics and asians in baseball now than blacks. historically it was the Jew and Italian manlet sport.
>>
>>154216010
You just remember those power plays because Edmonton actually scores on them. Since the 2022 playoffs Edmonton is 14th of 24 teams in PPs per game but they are 3rd in PP goals per game.
>>
>>154217472
I thought basketball was the Jew sport
>>
>>154184330
Americans only care about the NFL, th viwership on tv doesn't lie, even a regular season game has more tv audience than NBA or MLB final kek. But their government probabaly intervened, and forced americans sports to take place during diferent times of the year, unlike in Europe, where the populace chose what they want to see.
The few people who actually watching NBA, NHL or MLB are just coping hard due to not having NFL to watch, and deep down they wish NFL woudl run like european sports from Spetember until May

>>
>>154220922
@grok who is considered the greatest golfer of all time?
>>
>>154184330
I live near philly, so I root for philly teams.
simple as
>>
>>154221858
Jack Nicklaus is very white.
>>
>>154220664
MLB has multiple Jewish HoFers
>>
>>154184330
Geography / upbringing and then you can choose teams if you’re not near one or have no connection to one, but you have to stick with it once you choose.
So for example, I grew up in KC and am a Chiefs and Royals fan, even though I don’t live in KC anymore. I recently got into hockey for the first time after the Olympics and chose Jack Hughes’ team, the New Jersey Devils. This is acceptable because 1. I had no previous team and 2. no local hockey team. Meanwhile, I’m not into basketball at all because I had no local team, didn’t grow up with it, and am racist.
>>
>>154184330
I imagine most follow the sports they played growing up. I don't know how the young bloods decide these days since none of them are playing sports anymore.
>>
>>154186692
not surprising. they're getting slammed by +300 pound gorillas fairly often. that'd take a toll on anyone's body even in just one season
>>
>>154186692
rookie contracts are cost controlled, so why pay an old vet alot of money when you can replace him with a rookie for a quarter the cost and under team control for the next 4 years. All of this is very important in a hard cap system like NFL has.
