I don't know, that's kind of cope. It's true that soccer's a "middle class sport" here, as in poor kids don't play it for the most part. But that's because most American kids just don't care about soccer. That's the truth. Most middle class and upper class kids don't play soccer, either, at least not past the age where it becomes embarrassing to still be playing soccer. You can literally get bullied in school for playing soccer. That's slowly changing, but it's still not viewed as a men's sport. It's viewed as a very feminine/gay sport here, at least in most parts of the country.

I lived in Europe for a couple of years as a teenager. Every boy either plays soccer, watches soccer, or at least knows something about soccer. In the United States kids grow up playing 3 different sports and are forced to narrow it down as they get older. They always drop soccer immediately. I could go on and on but it just boils down to 1) soccer is a girl's sport and 2) it's still quite unpopular amongst most Americans (excluding 1st and 2nd gen "Americans", obviously)
