Most track feeds are bare bones track feeds designed to be watched at the track bar/simulcast facility/OTB parlor.

They typically have silence except for when the race is running and usually a short pre-race commentary section from the paddock reporter usually about 15 mins before the race. Some will have commentary over the post parade. Also at the beginning of the day they will have the track's talking heads give a rundown of the days races and their picks for the upcoming races, as well as the days scratches and updates.

Usually because these are being watched at places that have dozens of tvs all tuned to different racetracks.

The NYRA stream is designed as a TV show for the FS1/FS2 channels, which is why it has so much more commentary and much less dead air.

I'm not trying to sound racist, but is there any advantage to horses having their tails long instead of cropped or cut short? It seems like a shorter tail might be more aerodynamic.

I'm going to shill this Japanese horse drama because it's a really good show if you love the bloodline aspect of the sport. It's also good, if dramatized, look into every aspect of a horse's career from the breeding, the training, the jockeys, the stable staff, the races, to the drama between the owners.

A lot of times when there's a bunch of scratches in the high teens digits those are "also eligibles" - horses that will only enter the race if other horses scratch. Most american races aren't run with more than 12 horses, the kentucky derby being a notable exception with its 20 horse field.

Arguably the most prestigious turf race in the world (Or at least one of top turf races, though due to the overall decline of European racing its status has been declining somewhat), Japanese horses have attempted the race dozens of times (first time by Speed Symboli in 1969) but are yet to win the race (there is a joke that the French use their druids to summon rain and turn the turf into a swamp and that's why JP horses can't win)

Imo the Japanese and JRA are too obsessed with l'Arc. Good example is Just a Way being made to run in l'Arc in 2014. Just a Way was a miler, he had just won the Dubai Duty Free 1800 meter along with the Yasuda Kinen earlier in the year, he should have run in the Prix de la Foret, which happens on the same weekend as l'Arc at Longchamp, and is a prestigious mile race. Instead they forced him, a horse who hadn't run a race above 2000 meters in 2 and a half years, to run a 2400 meter race for no reason other than "it's l'Arc!"

American bred horses have won l'Arc before like Allez France, Alleged and Suave Dancer. An American trained horse has never won l'Arc but a big part of that is because the US has a heavier focus on dirt racing than turf racing like Europe and Japan.

Because flat horse racing exists here, we even have rodeos with bull riding, barrell racing and horse shows. Pretty sure if dogs didn't exist horses would be the most common animal I see where I live, and I don't live in a village, by simply just walking around since they are so common. My family still owns a race horses though she is currently working her second life as a broodmare.

My country has the Detroit problem, most of the country is fine, i.e you can live here without being shot or robbed for just existing (you can even take walks at night in most places and early in the morning without anything happening to you), however the south side of Belize city, where virtually all the crime happens, shoots up our crime rate by an astronomical amount since the people who live there are chimps.

Nah, it's just training the 5 core stats and buying skills that relate to the performance the irl horse showed. For example Gold Ships special basically makes her start accelerating from the midway point of the race and irl Gold Ship also did this since he was an End and inherited McQueens massive stamina reserves making it so he could accelerate for over 1000 meters up hill in a 3200 meter race and still have gas in the tank for the final spurt.

Good horse games I'd recommend would be Winning Post 10 where you take the role of a horse owner and breeder with your own farm and choose one of the multiple different eras of Japanese horse racing history to start in. It goes really in depth, for a game, with strategy and breeding as well as arranging a race schedule however you only watch the races and don't actually jockey the horse but you do choose the main jockeys of your horses. WP10 2026 just recently came out however it do require you either knowing Japanese or using a screen translator to play (Hopefully since Uma got popular they'll release an English version of the game soon).

Another one is G1 Jockey, where you do in fact become a jockey and take the reins of the horse yourself.

>>
>>154353401
The Japanese horse racing industry will definitely turn into the Hapsburgs if they don't stop being retarded. The mythicization of Sunday Silence blood truly has fucked over the JPs, 70% of the thoroughbred population with SundayMan 3 or 4 back. Then people wonder why in the modern day at this point virtually 80% of all Sundally Silence lines that did exist now no longer exist and of the remaining 20% the only one that will survive the coming 3rd extinction of Japanese lines will be the Sunday Silence x Wind in her Hair lines like Deep Impacts line or with Kitasan Black and Equinox. I blame Japanese breeding methods since those have been behind everyone else by about 30 years until relatively recently.
>>
>>154350102
Just use a Screen Translator anon, one like MeoW OCR that just translates the screen for you, that's the one I use at least. It was originally for VNs however WP isn't that complicated of a game in terms of dialogue or terms so the translator has no problems translating the entire screen as opposed to just a text bubble.

Equinox was recent, potentially the best middle distance horse in Japanese history and one of the, if not THE, best at least in 2000 meters since he set a new world distance record time for 2000 meters at the Tenno Sho Autumn however he retired early and iirc the only international win he had was the Dubai Sheema the only int race, asiw from the Japan Cup, he participated in. Before that you had Loves Only You, who won the Breeders Cup Mare, and March Lorraine who won the Breeders Cup Distaff I believe in 2021. This is assuming we're talking about Jap horses going international of course.

How much of a problem is this? Is there anywhere you can look up the coefficient of inbreeding for racehorses without having to pay?
>>
>>154354516
Since Northern Dancers win in 1964, over 97% of thououghbreds about 10000 were tested and traced though that was till 2022.. Without a doubt it happens all over the globe with other champion
>>
>>154354516
>How much of a problem is this?
Considering that there are dozens of outcross broodmares (often high-quality ones) imported to Japan every year, I would say not that big of a problem, and as Sunday Silence is pushed further back in the pedigrees with time, it will only get smaller
>Is there anywhere you can look up the coefficient of inbreeding for racehorses without having to pay?
Just calculate it yourself or ask an AI to do it for you. I usually just give the AI an image of the pedigree and most of the time it calculates COI accurately
>>
>>154354516
https://labgenvet.ca/en/inbreeding-calculator/

If 2 horses share the same calculator then the I breeding coefficient is about 12.5%, if they share the same great grandfather it's about 3.25%. 3.25% is fine, the problem is they don't just share SundayMan in their pedigrees 99% of the time, especially since the Deep Impact took over for his father so a lot of horses share both Sunday Silence and Wind in her Hair in their pedigrees and virtually every horse has Northern Taste in their pedigrees as well in Japan.

Doesn't mean much when Kitasan Black alone covers 191 mares every year, and Kitasan isn't even the most successful Deep Impact x Wind in her Hair stallion in Japan. The Japs have introduced new stallions though, like American Pharaoh (at least for this season of breeding), Adayar a Derby winning Frankel colt, Sottsass a l'Arc winner Siyouni colt and Hukum a Sea the Stars colt among other imported stallions.

>The Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission has banned 171 horses from racing, citing alleged abuse by three trainers and extreme post-race distress

There's not alot of context but this is happening specifically with Quarterhorses, which are sprinters only and usually have a different crowd handling and watching them, but not always. Thoroughbreds are racing later in the area.

Not going bleeding heart for them, but gotta keep a look out for the peeps who will push their horses past their limits (drugs usually), to win in this sport where lots of money are involved. There was a bunch of blatant cheating/drugging/etc. back at Santa Anita in the late 2010's.

I have to wonder how much stories like Opera O's jockey just giving up trying to win after being blocked at the Arima Kinen only for the horse himself finding an opening and gunning it are just cool stories to grab attention or are things that really happen

Graded races start in 20 minutes, schedule:
G2 Yomiuri Milers Cup (15:30 JST) (20 minutes from now)
G1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (15:35 JST) (25 minutes from now)
G2 Sankei Sports Sho Flora Stakes (15:45 JST) (35 minutes from now)
G1 FWD Champions Mile (16:45 JST) (1 hour and 35 minutes from now)
G1 FWD QEII Cup (17:55 JST) (2 hours and 45 minutes from now)
>>
>>154384972
Mix of both, some are just cool stories however others, such as TM Opera O at the 2000 Arima Kinen and Rudolf at the Japanese Derby, did actually happen. Horses have a mind of their own and some horses are affectionately called automatic race horses as they can essentially perfectly, or almost perfectly, run a race by themselves with little to no input or commands from the jockey.

Some of the horses do have real competitive spirit. Even if you want to handwave Jungle Pocket's victory yells as something unrelated to the race or frustrations of having to be jockeyed at all, you also have incidents like Symboli Rudolf having tantrum in his stable after he lost the Japan Cup.
That spirit can also break. Sometimes a horse loses a big race and they're never able to pull themselves back, like Still In Love after the Queen Elizabeth Cup loss.

I'm pretty excited about the remaining Triple Tiara races in Japan. Star Anise looked great in the Oka Sho, and most people seem to agree that the only question is whether or not she does well in longer distances (her parents performed poorly in any race longer than 2000m)

If she does, we might see another Triple Tiara this year. I might bet on her if the quotas are good enough.
>>

I feel like it will be long for her. At 2000m I could see it, but 2400 is just too much

I doubt Star Anise can do 2400m, the Storm Cat line of horses are usually all milers with their absolute best distance being between 1800m and 2200m. Her father's dam's lineage is also just short distance racing going back to Raise a Native. Same thing on her mother's side with the only exception being Daiwa Major who could run longer distances, however most Sunday Man studs, unless bred with stayer lines like Stego being bred with McQueen's dams that came from, and largely passed on, both the Mejiro Aurora dam line and the Parthalon stayer line, can usually only go up to middle distance for stallions and mile to 2000m for dams.
>>
>>154436696
>Her father's dam's lineage is also just short distance racing going back to Raise a Native
*doing back to Deputy Minister
My mistake, still a short distance horse lineage though. The dam lines are about the same on both sides, mostly short to mile distances with the exception being Northern Dancer from Scarlet Boquet however Northern Taste's best distance was....miles

Retardation, unironically. Want to know the fucked thing though, the Japs in the late 90's and early 2000's retroactively redesigned all their central tracks to focus less on endurance racing and more on instant speed racing. This is partially the reason as to why Sunday Man's children where so succesful as they prefer this type of course that favors instant speed over stamina, also why every other line just died as Jap horses at that point where predominantly from stayer lines.

Getting back to the race tracks, they claim to want to win l'Arc however their horses now race on what are basically speed ways, not endurance tracks, making it so that a horse that could possibly only touch 2000 meters in Europe would be able to compete in a 2500 meter race in Japan. There is a reason why every one of Sunday Man's children or grandchildren who did well in Europe, their dams came from predominantly European or old Japanese stayer lines like Deep Impact, Orfevre and Nakayama Festa.
>>
>>154446113
>You kno remember Just a Way, quite possibly the best miler in 2014, being forced to run the l'Arc by his owners after not racing a distance of 2400 meters, IN JAPAN, for 2 and a half years rather than running the Prix de la Foret

Is that why foreign horses barely win the japan cup now? It was won by japanese horses for 19 years straight after 2005.
>>
>>154447063
Doesn't matter, why put your horse in a race it has no possibility of winning? See Just a Way in 2014, a miler who was made to run in l'Arc for no reason other than "it's l'Arc" rather than running the Foret instead. Keep in mind, at that point Just a Way hadn't run a race longer than 2200 meters in Japan for 2 and a half years.
>>
>>154447098
i'm just answering you why it's tempting
>>
>>15444709not really, the last real competition, foreign competition, the Japan Cup had aside from 2025 was 2011 with Danedream, some argue Solemia in 2012 however Solemia after l'Arc was finished. Either way, from since 2011 to 2012 there wasn't really any strong foreign competition like during the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. There where some years where there was no foreign horse racing in the Japan Cup. Hopefully with Calandagan in 2025 more foreign competition, strong foreign competition, comes back to the Japan Cup

You mean like sprints and the like?
>>
>>154446507
Reminds me of Kitasan Black being put to stud duty only 3 years in which is a huge waste
>>
>>154447344
No, modern Japanese track designs are a lot flatter with their inclines being less steep and there being less inclines in general and their turns are designed in a way to not consume as much stamina and to not have them need to slow down as much. European turf is also a lot heavier than Japanese turf which also consumes more stamina from a horse.

In another way, a 2400 meter race in Japan and France are both 2400 meters however the race in France, especially at courses like Longchamp, will consume a lot more stamina to run than the 2400 meter in Japan even though they are the exact same distance.
>>

>>
>>154447641
The Hanshin race course is a lot more endurance focused than other Japanese courses, horses from stayer lines or stayer dam lines like Gold Ship usually do well there meanwhile they usually don't do well on the more high speed focused tracks like Tokyo. Good example being Gold Ship, he preferred running at the Hanshin however did extremely poorly at Tokyo, coming in 15th and 12th in the Japan Cup the 2 times he participated, despite having the stamina to run 3200 meters. Course design changes a lot about how the race is ran and who's suitable to run it.

G1 KENTUCKY OAKS G1 starts in estimated 50 minutes. Pick your winner!
The top race for the girls is here! (i think its the top race for mares). I have no idea if there's any foreign or notable horses in this race.

I think this might be NBC hosted only. Not sure if that includes NBC, NBC sports, or Peacock.

Kentucky Derby is tomorrow.
>>
>>154465657
iirc no foreign invaders and it's the top race for 3YO mares
>>

Who are we backing in the 2000 Guineas lads? I like Bow Echo to beat Gstaad. Also being an Aussie I’ll have to back Asfoora too in her return at Group 3 level.
>>
>>154474862
I like Oxagon, winkers on and has grown into his frame more. It's a pretty weak Guineas. If Asfoora can win a G1 over there Joliestar will dominate if she flies over well.
>>
You would have to think she’ll dominate over there m8 especially considering her form over the Autumn Carnival. My only doubt would be is if she can find her best in a straight race like the King Charles Stakes. I agree Oxagon has come back really nicely and at double figures is a great each way bet. Best of luck m8!

Right to Party, Silent Tactic, and Fulleffort dropped out earlier in the week.

The Puma was a last minute scratch due to a skin infection, so it was too late for him to be replaced by an also eligible, so only 19 horses will run instead of the full 20.

ngl, the broadcast does suffer from often not having anything to show, if it was like with jap races where, during a break between races on one racecourse, they show a race or paddock at a different racecourse

Horse racing is parimutuel as well, as opposed to booked like other sports are.

Other sports are player vs bookie, when you place a bet you lock in the odds at the time you place it, and the best are banked by the bookie. Like slots or blackjack, player vs house.

Horse racing is pari-mutuel - which means all the players money is pooled together and then divided up among the winners, with the track taking out a percentage from the pool, similar to a raked poker game.

Looks like they are all american except the JP horse. Most euros run in turf races, a lot of the big turf races have more euro horses than us horses.

The Spring Tenno Sho is starting in 7 hours, its a 3200m turf race taking place in Kyoto Racecourse, Japan.
This is the lineup, the strongest contenders are 4yo colt Croix Du Nord, sired by Kitasan Black off Rising Cross, 5yo horse Admire Terra, sired by Rey de Oro off Admire Miyabi and 5yo horse Redentor, sired by Rulership off Corcovado.
>Croix Du Nord
A direct descendant of the same sire that unleashed Sea The Stars into this world and the 7 time G1 offspring of Black Tide, he has 3 G1 wins in his record so far (24 Hopeful Stakes, 25 Japanese Derby, 26 Osaka Hai) and had ok outings on the Arima Kinen but he's otherwise untested in long races, this will be his first real outing and expectations are high due to his Osaka Hai win a month ago.
>Admire Terra
The quirky grey horse seemed on the verge of needing retirement after throwing his own jockey 2 times on the same year, with very mixed results before these incidents, but he came back strong this year winning and setting a new record at the Hanshin Daishoten. His prefered jockey so far has been Yutaka Take, who will also be riding him today.
>Redentor
The winner of last year's Spring Tenno Sho has taken a long break after his win due to a leg injury that even saw him miss last year's Arima Kinen, and his first start since then was a poor 8th in February's Kyoto Kinen but hopes still ride high for him.
