for being such a "global" sport it's pretty localized when you think about it
even hockey is more global

And what makes you think ice hockey is more global? There's zero doubt that football is by far the most popular sport worldwide. If you say football entirely hinges on four nations in western Europe, then ice hockey hinges on the US and Canada alone
