Semi-serious post about my Poodres. This team is Good but I don't think they're That Good. They're beating opponents they should but doing it in an unsustainable way. Their offense is bad, but they have the second biggest gap between their xwOBA and wOBA after the Reds. But even with that, this team (for the most part) keeps smacking the ball into the dirt. Tatis is the most notable example: all his hard contact stats are 95th+ percentile, but his average launch angle is like 5 degrees. Homir's about to finish off a 5 game stretch in Coors and Mexico City without a homer lmao. Their starting pitching for the most part sucks (and they're probably cooked in the playoffs if at least one of Pivetta or Musgrove doesn't come back), but they might have the best bullpen since the '03 Doggie Doos and prime Gagne. So even if their starters remain dire, they might be able to vastly overperform their expected wins. Really a strange, but fun team to watch. I think if they can beat Scubas they will be for real.

well, if the Mets season is doomed, at least we have a lot of attractive trade pieces at the deadline that will allow us to quickly restructure for next season. I'm thinking we get rid of>Polanco>Bichette>Lindor>Peralta>Peterson>SengaI think we'll be stuck with Semien and Manaea. I think we should keep Robert, Jr. and Myers. I'm not sure if Vientos has much value. Baty has defensive utility.We rebuild around Soto and McLean as the clear franchise players. Hopefully Benge continues to get more comfortable and Ewing will be ready for a call-up soon.

He's worth something, but the hard part is finding a trade partner for him in-season. Look at last year's Correa trade: Twins got basically org depth nothing for eating a third of his remaining contract. Unless Cohen's taking on $50M+, it'd be pure salary relief. Senga is in a bad spot right now, but controllable pitching is valuable, so yes, they could probably get back an "interesting" package for him.

If I'm looking to acquire Bichette at the deadline, I only want to pay for his 2026 production because I expect that he'll hit the open market afterwards, but if he dovetails or gets injured, I'm suddenly on the hook the next two seasons for $84M. That is a gigantic sum, roughly a sixth of the current CBT soft cap (obviously TBD what happens next CBA). There is significant risk and unless the Mets are willing to sell Bichette like he's on an expiring contract by offering some salary offset in the event he does opt back in Y2/3 (let's make it simple and call it $42M). And again, the Dodgers are probably the only club who would entertain that much salary in a midseason add, provided they feel they have the need for Bichette and an opening in the infield for him. It's a ridiculously low chance, not impossible. Player opt-outs are hard to value in trades when they encompass all the years of control, because one club is inevitably shafted.
