How is it really perceived in England? Here the difference is immense, everyone knows about the FA cup, you can watch the matches with Czech commentary on the paid sports channel, it is being mentioned in media, especially in later stages, it is simply a thing that is known and talked about. On the other hand, the league cup is absolutely ignored. You will probably see the winners mentioned on the sports news and that's it. The online discussion under the article will be empty.
It's the most important league cup in the world as it offers a European tournament place. Most countries have got rid of theirs except Portugal. But yeah, as a Championship team club, it's a minor distraction. The first round game is before the season starts or just after so it's like another warmup game. It's nice if your League One/Two team gets a big club, look at Grimsby beating Man Utd, or a team newly promoted to League Two for the novelty of a trip or whatever.I wouldn't want it to be scrapped though.
Why not limit it to U23s + a few senior players like the Olympics. I hear it's mostly used to give youngsters a chance anyway and for players returning from injury.
>>154458123No thanks, especially with a Europa Conference place on the line.League Two Bradford got all the way to the final one year it was great. The other travesty is the EFL Trophy, for League One and Two, now has 16 PL (occasionally Championship) Academy teams which are similar to how you describe. Fortunately none of them have ever made the final at Wembley.
>>154457726It's the patrician cup
the lameness of the sponsor ruined the prestige. to this day i don't know what carabao is. Coca-Cola Cup had gravitas. Milk Cup. Carling Cup. this is proper tournament sponsorship. if i've never heard of the sponsor, it means the tournament has lost its relevance.
>>154458657>to this day i don't know what carabao is.EFL desperately trying to attract the South East Asian market.>Carabao Dang Energy Drink is a Thai energy drink launched in 2002 by Carabao Tawandang Co Ltd. It is now Thailand's second most popular energy drink, after Krating Daeng. It is the key brand of Carabao Tawandang in Thailand, with an estimated 21 per cent market share in 2014.
>>154458657>>154458819It really looks like some bottom shelf shit you get for 0.35 euro
>>154458995It's barely cheaper than Red Bull despite looking tacky as fuck
It gives a chance to your Eddie Howes, your uhhh Steve McLeishes, and the rest a chance to prove they can deliver trophies so managers will want to keep it. Similar with some clubs, before Leicester won the league and then FA Cup, their claim to glory was that they won the League Cup three times, including twice in a few short years. Newcastle used it to break their long, long streak without a trophy too.
It's everyone's lowest priority, but it is still a challenge to win and European football is a great prize.
>>154457726Shite compared to the FA Cup but it's good for lower league clubs and you get some great stories out of it. A tragedy to scrap it for anyone trying to do the 92. Also straight knockout is the most fun format in existence so there's that.
It was great when it was over 2 legs, made it feel unique. Now it's pointless
>>154457726shit if my club doesn't win it, prestigious if my club wins it

>>154457726The League Cup is pretty forgettable until the semi-final stage, but both cups are pretty much dominated by the same six clubsI started watching football in 2001 so there have been ~50 cup finals in England, and the only ones I remember were when Wigan, Portsmouth and Leicester each won the FA Cup, and when Swansea, Birmingham and Newcastle won the League Cup
