i don't understand why ALL of the london clubs aren't thriving. players want to live there, they have decent sized grounds full of tourists, they have a huge varied catchment area for youth players, their youth teams are usually high quality... and yet they struggle in L1. they should all be doing what palace are doing.

Because the market is saturated, why would they choose QPR over Arsenal, Chelsea, or even West Ham for goodness sake

On what planet? It's the second smallest in the championship after Wrexham. And now Lincoln tbf.

this team is the perfect ideal of eternal midtable shitter teams
it has participated in the 1st division for longer than teams that were far more successful both locally (Newell's, Huracan, Central) and internationally (Argentinos Juniors, Lanus) yet their single league win happened almost 100 years ago and i guess they won a mickey mouse cup in the 90s

to be fair they were robbed off another league title on 1933

Having a big catchment area for youth academies doesn't mean much if teams can just buy good players from anywhere. You would have a point if clubs were restricted to fielding local players only.

>they have a huge varied catchment area for youth players
they actually struggle with youth teams because under 16 a kid can leave the club if another club wants them and the compensation is, or used to be, a standard £3500. so a lot of london clubs have good 12 year olds and then chelsea, arsenal or spurs take them for almost nothing. this is why Brentford gave up their Elite Academy status and stopped being in the under 23 (i think) leagues.
