Serbs cannot renounce their communist heritage because those 45 years of communism are for them a golden age, the Athens of Pericles and the pinnacle of history. They are extremely butthurt because others, like Croats, can do that. Hajduk brought back the checkerboard on their coat of arms, Dinamo tried to bring back the old name, which they failed to do, or at least partially succeeded (long story), but at least they are marking the birthday of Građanski, the club's predecessor. Serbs now don't know where to go next: in the ex-Yu era, clubs represented the entire country, as if they were NT. Croats made that mental leap forward, so NT is above everything, but Serbs still remain club sectarians and in a way, Red Star, as a de facto symbol of the country and nation, is more important than Serbia NT itself. In short, it's not like the rivalry is Croatia vs Serbia, but Croatia vs Red Star. As for Partizan, that's a tragic story. They still have the prefix 'Yugo' in their name and 6 torches in their coat of arms, symbolizing the 6 yugo republics. With the fact that the fans of both Red Star and Partizan are actually Chetniks, so the whole story is complete schizophrenia.

I don't hear any fans complaining so why would it need changing? The only valid reasons to change a name are blatantly offensive names or names that are incorrect (for instance the city where they play changed names).
