I love CR7... but no one compares to Michael.
>>
I don't think that are many people that would know Ronaldo but not Jackson
>>
>>154495417
Goku
>>
obviously Jackson
you show yanks a photo of ronaldo and 98% won't know him
>>
>>154495627
If it weren't for /sp/, I would have been confusing Ronaldo with Ronaldo (that guy from the Simpsons episode about flopping), who I would actually be confusing with Ronaldinho (that guy I once saw in a 2006 World Cup edition of Sports Illustrated Kids)
>>
Michael Jackson
>>
Tswooo!
>>
>>154495821
you're not alone, when C.Ronaldo first started playing in Portugal everyone thought that was a nickname, because nobody has ever named their kid Ronaldo here (even in Brasil i don't think it's very common)
>>
if you're in an African jungle and you encounter a tribe of savages they'd be far more likely to recognize Ronaldo, athletes just win these every single time. a better question is Muhammad Ali vs Ronaldo
>>
>>154495417
Michael was more famous than Cristiano when Cristiano was in his prime
>>
>>154495417
Michael Jackson easily.
>>
>>154495417
Did either one claim to be bigger than Jesus?
>>

There's a French documentary where a guy visits an isolated Amazonian tribe and they don't know about snow or man walking on the moon and didn't recognize Zidane but when he shows them a video of Michael Jackson they all know him

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eafOkWXjqjc
>>
>>154495417
Even the most recluse native american/amazonian village, cut from technology knew who the fuck Michael Jackson was, case in point 3m25s on that video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eafOkWXjqjc
>>
Michael by a long shot. I don't think anybody after he was born has had a bigger percentage of the global population know who they are.

to be fair, during his HIStory era, he did like Two of his most famous songs of all time, related to Brazil/South America or featuring Natives/Indios/Amazonians:

(((They))) don't care about us
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY90sFsB9wI

and fucking Earth song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAi3VTSdTxU

...and 3 if you add Black or White (Dangerous), but that's a stretch
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2AitTPI5U0

ofc people from all across the globe will tell about his story everywhere
>>
>>154499993
Pretty cool if true but I don't trust the French
>>
>>154500108
if they don't know MJ why do they dress like him
>>
At the peak of his popularity the only entertainment industry figures that ever came close to MJ were the Beatles and Muhammad Ali.
MJ is bigger than Ronaldo and Messi ever were
>>
>>154495417
It's hard to explain if you weren't there at the height of his fame, but MJ can rightly be described as a phenomenon. Far beyond huge at a time where people couldn't scrutinise every public moment on social media.
>>
>>154501224
Yeah I would guess at that point he was the widely recognised person in any point in history
>>
>At the peak of his fame, it was estimated that nearly the entire world knew Jackson's name, with claims suggesting he had around 4.8 billion fans when the global population had just crossed 5 billion.
ronniebros...
>>
>>154495417
I'd argue Michael Jordan is a more recognised name than Ronaldo.

Cristiano has already scored more goals at Al Nassr than he did in his first run with Man United

MJ

>>154495417
Michael obviously
>>
>>154495417
Must be Michael Jackson, he was popular across sports fans and both genders. Ronaldo may be more recognized in some regions that didn't really have access to global media in Jackson's day, but if you account for that "inflation", it's not even close, I think. Ronaldo is huge and probably the most famous athlete on the planet, but there are some obvious blindspots (women, people from countries where football isn't the #1) - it's not like the people there don't know him at all, but I'm sure everyone who had media access back in the day knew about Michael Jackson
>>
who will play Ronaldo in the future biopic?
>>
>>154499993
>>154499994
>1 sec difference
You should kiss
>>
I only know who Ronaldo is because he was in the new Garou game for some fucking reason
>yeah but you're american you don't watch football
yeah you're right, I don't. let's try that in reverse though. Why do people from South Korea, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Germany, UK, etc. etc. I'm not going through the whole thread, why do they know MJ? I'm not trying to imply that football is irrelevant because a stupid american like me doesn't watch it, but Ronaldo is just a football player. A popular one, sure, but Taylor Swift is a popular musician too. She doesn't compare with MJ either. Someone like Michael transcends being a simple "musician."

People act like these guys are wise but their first thought about landing on the moon was that the moon would be destroyed.
>>
>>154510263
I mean, it's just one guy, isn't it? Everyone knows we can't learn from them in this regard. But it's interesting to hear them ask WHY humans went to the moon. And their general conduct is very respectful, but they assert they have their own way of life in touch with nature and will try to protect that. We don't have to go all "oh, what noble savages! How endearing!" on them, but it is fascinating to see such a people confronted with all of this overwhelming stuff and commenting it a bit

stars from the entertainment industry, especially music, will always be more popular than athletes. women dont give a fuck about sports and its easy to avoid sports to a point that you just wouldnt know any of the players, but pop music is everywhere. even if you dont care about it, you still end up hearing the songs in stadiums/malls/shows or other public places. even if you considered a more modern version, do you think any athlete of the past 10-20 years was more popular than taylor swift or katy perry or even rihanna? i dont even think tiger woods or lebron james or messi or ronaldo come close.

Pele is bigger than Messi. My Dad is a rugby boomer and he knows Pele more than Messi

Jordon is the most recognisable athlete as far as branding, although there’s probably a lot of people know the brand but don’t know who Jordan is
>>
>>154495417
Michael Jackson was the most famous human on Earth from the mid 80s to his death in June 09. He couldn't go anywhere in the world without a mob. More famous than the Pope, Michael Jordan, Maradonna, Mandela and Bill Clinton
>>
>>154513085
That's completely rubbish. All the Muslim men don't care, listen or watch the Slop from America. And they're around a billion in the world. Tell me one female singer, actress or model more famous than Messi and Ronaldo. And if you say Swift pull the trigger. Not even half the people here in Germany know her

Peak Madonna and Brittney Spears were more famous than any soccer player. I can argue Shakira was too back in the early 00s

Nobody here in Germany knows who they're, if they are under the age of 30
I can't imagine that it's different in other European countries. But even the little girls all know Messi and Ronaldo, because everybody watches the world cup here. I mean nobody that isn't 40+ listen to their music and zoomers and even younger people don't read gossip magazines anymore

Back in the 80s, racial tensions were at their peak and so the globohomos worked really hard to come up with some kind of psyop to defuse the situation. They saw that androgynous artists were really popular with white people and so they came up with a psyop where they would try to meme androgynous black artists. You had pop stars like prince and michael jackson. It was cringe as fuck and eventually the whole thing started to fall apart when they started to fuck little boys and look grotesque because of all the stuff they were doing to modify their appearance to appear white. Eventually the globohomos gave up on the psyop and a decade later came up with a much better idea: wiggers. And that's how we ended up with eminem and stuff like that.

Messi is literally a fucking nobody. Eurocucks are completely out of touch. Who wants to watch some roided up manlet dominate SOCCER. Not only that, the worst era of soccer. Gtfo here with Messi shit.

Ronaldo isn't anywhere near close to the fame level of Jackson. not sure anyone from any sport comes close actually - possibly only Ali
>>
What happened to Twain?

Me personally, I'm just looking forward to the WC and the public tag team destruction of Antonella's asshole by Trump and CR7 after the GOAT will have won his WC and trampled Pissi Cuckitini into the dirt where he belongs as the vile creature that he is. For it is of old rumour that the soul of the devil-bought hastes not from his charnel clay, but fats and instructs the very worm that gnaws; till out of corruption horrid life springs, and the dull scavengers of earth wax crafty to vex it and swell monstrous to plague it. Great holes secretly are digged where earth’s pores ought to suffice, and things have learnt to walk that ought to crawl - Iä! RIGGI NIGGIRATH

Michael Jackson and it's not even close.
>>
>>154495417
MJ, no contest whatsoever
>>
fame has changed now
you can't have global superstars like Jackson with social media. so with zoomers / gen alphas, you have short-term fame but Ronaldo's peak was a bit before this. I think his most popular point was when he was at United first time and then Madrid but even that wasn't close to what Jackson had.

genuinely can't believe someone could ask such a stupid and in even greater disbelief that there are people saying cristiano ronaldo
the only sportsman who you could put in a conversation with michael jackson is muhammad ali and michael jackson still wins that confidently
random fucking bush dwellers in the middle of nowhere knew michael jackson and his music. op should be banned for making this thread
>>
Ronaldo didn't have stans constantly camping and spying where he's staying at all the time.

Wherever Mike shows up, there's legions of fans nearby. Even more funny since Mike didn't use Jewtube at all outside of having his staff post his albums there. Even the most hardcore Swift and K-poop fan don't compare to the actual rabid and mentally ill MJ cult.

Think of all the OG Jewtubers in the early-mid 2000s, MJ was still big during that time and didn't even need the platform. Didn't need the Myspace guy and Zuck to inflate fandoms.

Ronaldo is more like Mike Tyson, Ali, Jordan and Tiger Woods; popular but not as stupidly popular than Michael Jackson in his prime.
