Ive heard interviews of some involved in matchfixing in Italy, what was happening was the fixing element called only something like 3-4 players that include the captain other influential player/players that the fixers can find that they can trust, they call them into a meeting to give them the instruction to lose the game by influenceing the team to be lethargic and they would be bad/make discrete mistakes themselfs. They would not tell the other 7-8 players.
