The EFL Play-Offs begin tonight with 6th placed Hull City hosting 3rd placed Millwall at the MKM Stadium for the first leg of their Championship semi-final. Sergej Jakirovic's Tigers performed an astonishing turnaround from the end of 2024/25, where they only stayed up on goal difference, and sneaked into the play-offs on the final day after defeating Norwich while Wrexham drew against Middlesbrough. Under Alex Neil, the Lions finished in their highest league position since the 2001/02 season, and were only denied automatic promotion on the final day as despite being relegated Oxford, 2nd-placed Ipswich also won.

Kick-off is at 8:00pm with coverage on Sky Sports Football from 7:00pm.

HUL: Pandur; Coyle (c), Egan, Hughes, Giles; Slater, Crooks; Belloumi, Gelhardt, Millar; McBurnie.
>Subs: Phillips, Lundstram, Ajayi, Hirakawa, Joseph, Gyabi, Dowell, Koumas, McNair.

MIL: Patterson; Leonard, Crama, Cooper (c), Sturge; Mazou-Sacko, De Norre; Azeez, Neghli, Ballo; Coburn.
>Subs: Crocombe, McNamara, Mitchell, Ivanovic, Doughty, Langstaff, Watson, Cundle, Bannan.

The EFL story of the week: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c78k93799xyo

>The English Football League (EFL) has launched an investigation into an alleged case of spying by Southampton on Middlesbrough before they meet in the Championship play-offs.

>The first leg of their semi-final takes place at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, with the return at St Mary's on Tuesday.

>BBC Sport has learned Saints' performance analyst was allegedly caught recording Boro training and taking pictures of tactics late on Thursday morning.

>The staff member was caught, told to delete the footage and leave the area, but the Teesside club were furious and later contacted the EFL.

>An EFL statement released on Thursday evening read: "The EFL has written to Southampton FC requesting their observations following a complaint from Middlesbrough FC relating to alleged unauthorised filming ahead of the two clubs meeting in Saturday's Championship play-off semi-final first leg. The alleged incident is said to have taken place on Middlesbrough's private property by an individual identified to be associated with Southampton. The League is treating this matter as potential misconduct under EFL regulations and will be making no further comment at this time."

>Southampton have been approached for comment.

>EFL rules state "no club shall directly or indirectly observe (or attempt to observe) another club's training session in the period of 72 hours prior to any match".

Hoping, praying for Millwall to win big. Preferably by 10 goals. Just so that Ilicali fucks off back to Maribor and sorts our shit out. We're missing europe for the first time since 2008 because his "sporting director" keeps signing "french" players from amateur french leagues, and keep appointing coaches that nobody knows. We managed to somehow get in a 10M debt this season. We were a champions league club 10 years ago... He ruined everything since he took over. I hope his clubs lose every single match and he fucks off back to Turkey.

>>154572716
Millwall would get about 20 points, probably a win against a London club at home and a couple of draws against big clubs over Christmas. They'd also shit the bed against crap teams and get bummed by City, Arsenal, etc away.

There's no chance of Hull being promoted but they'd be worse than Derby County.

>>
>>154572964
I can guarantee that there'd be mentions of their 'troublesome past' and how football fans have changed since they were last in the top-flight in the early 90s, as well as backhanded compliments about how friendly and welcoming they are now they've been civilised
>>

away goals never counted in the play-offs
they have been ended in the uefa competitions though, yes, as it removes another elimination risk to the big clubs

The inside looks good on TV, but it's basically just a big bowl. The design is of the same type as Bolton, Wigan, etc, very popular in the 90s (the KC opened in late 2002).

When we moved into it we were mid-table in what's now League Two, the fourth tier, so it was like being on another planet when you first walked into this incredible 25,000 seater with a pristine pitch, new seats, new concourse, and so on. It was a massive contributing factor to our rise back up the league as well, as in our first two full seasons there we won successive promotions back to the Championship. I do miss Boothferry Park though.

>>
>>154573630
That was always a ridiculous move.
Hull has thrice the population of Darlington, and City are the nearest professional club for ~700,000 people. Historically, our natural level is the bottom half of the Championship and top of League One, bouncing between the two. A 25,000 seater stadium, shared with the city's biggest rugby club, made sense.

Darlington, meanwhile, have always been a club stuck around the bottom reaches of the Football League. They also have Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough nearby.

mental decision
