KEKEKEKEKEKEKEKKEKEKEK
T20 loses its appeal when its the only format played. Watching people hit sixes over and over again becomes less astounding unless its contrasted against the longer formats. But we have only had 2 tests so far this year and maybe an ODI or two.

Rew and Gay ARE NOT openers

Probably and he will fail because he was a mediocre opener at Northants; and although he has improved since moving Durham, he's been moved to 3 and has had only one good season.

In the 1s again on Saturday ffs
Looking forward to batting 8 (probably staying in the pavilion) and not bowling once again
Wouldn't mind so much if they didn't charge me match fees
>>
Think I'm capable of playing at that level, but I'll be the first to admit I was shite for them last year (partly due to being batted out of position) and some of the younger lads are more trustworthy batswielders than me and deserve to be higher up the order

But doing this bit part role for the 1s and dropping back to the 2s when they don't need me isn't doing me any favours because it means I don't have a settled role in either team, and can't even make the 2s opening spot my own (despite an average of 84 for them)

Unfortunately the 1s captain has a very high cricketing IQ and realises that an exemplary fieldsperson is equal to about 150-200 runs in a 50-over match, and keeps selecting me on that basis
>>
>>154661192
You've put the long barrier away into the attic I assume?
>>
>>154661203
Absolutely NOT
The long barrier appears to be a dying art (the juniors (all of whom are shit fieldsmen) don't do it), but it's essential to high quality fieldspersonship
Genuinely think most club cricket sides would save 20-50 runs per innings if they just followed the simple principles of getting to the ball quickly and employing the long barrier once they're there
>>
Had some coaching on the bowling machine yesterday. Coach didn't appreciate my normal tactic of cheekily walking down the wicket to the ball, and instead made me stand with a really wide stance and told me to ground myself without moving my back foot, and then to hit through the ball. Felt very unnatural, but have to admit that all of a sudden every shot I played was a nice low-risk drive along the ground, with upper hand dominant and good balance. Wonder if there could be something in batting properly after all, but feel like I'm too old a dog to be taught new tricks
>>
Anyway, back to England's Test selection

Absurd that Fisher gets in ahead of Cook and about 20 other bowlers on the county circuit too

Bashir should have had more time on the county circuit before being brought back into the international set-up (he's done ok for Derbyshire but not set the world alight, just needs a full season playing FC cricket really)

Not sure Gay is the answer to the opener's dilemma seeing as he bats 3 for Durham, but in the absence of any obvious alternative I guess he may as well be given a try

Probably the right decision to drop Pope but do feel it's a bit daft that Bethell appears to have 3 locked down when he's still barely done anything in his red ball career to date

Ahmed doesn't deserve the call-up seeing as he's sacked off Leicestershire to go and play in the IP

Good to see /pol/lie Robinson back, made me laugh to see Key describe him as "one of the best bowlers in the world" (why haven't you been picking him the last few years then you pudgy tarq fuck)

Good to see Rew called up, hopefully he gets a chance, and will be batted at his favoured position 5-7
