>"It was a surprise. My pulse was super high," he told Spanish Eurosport, having not revealed the problem when speaking in English.>"I felt like I was going to die," he added, though with a smile on his face. "For more than 20 minutes, my heart rate was at more than 190 beats per minute.>"So I don't know. I didn't even have any pain in my legs, but it was like when you accelerate a car and it's flat out and you're revving the engine.>"I tried to dig in, I did as much as I could but I was on the limit and in the end I had to drop.>"Obviously it's not the best, but we know how it is. Days like that, in my sporting career I've had many of them. I'm not thinking too much about it.">Netcompany Ineos directeur sportif Elia Viviani had previously suggested that Bernal simply had a bad day, perhaps sparked by the rest day.>"I think the day after the rest day is never an easy one because the body switches off a bit, and then this long climb is always a solid one. The high pace from Movistar really put some people on the limit," Viviani said.>Bernal thanked Turner for helping on the climb and sacrificing his own chances in the sprint. Turner finished fourth and was emotional post-stage but understood the team's tactics.>"It's kind of sad because we saw in the end that he can win the stage if he doesn't wait for me. In the end, the team took the decision, and I just want to thank him because without him, I would already be minutes [down] in the GC.>"This is teamwork, and I really hope he can win a stage in the Giro because he deserves it."concerning.
>>154661933This man had half a dozen serious surgeries in his career. The fact that there isn't more things wrong with him is a minor miracle.
how do you do, fellow kids?
>>154661933On track for his 6th place on GC, it'll all be worth it by the end of May. Feel bad for Turner. Not the first time he's had to do such a thing. Bernal is a big name rider who's had a good career yet he's so inconsistent and always finds bad luck. He'd be a good rider for movistar. Ineos seems to be in the same boat however and even Onley has started down that path. Cursed team.
>>154662077>Onley has started down that pathhe was the collector's favorite lad even before Ineos
>>154661933>>"I felt like I was going to die," he added, though with a smile on his face.>>"Days like that, in my sporting career I've had many of them."

>>154662128His season to date has been nothing short of tragic. Always thought ineos was a really bad move for him. He was supported well at picnic during his breakthrough tour. I remember them blasting past the GC riders when they caught back up with them after a descent. That sort of team performance earns loyalty. Real shame he left, now the team is in tatters and lacks potential to change their situation. Not keen on Onley now.

>>154664258Yeah, this was actually the safest sprint
>>154664564Cobbles were fine except for that one manhole cover that was sticking up, like, 3 inches lmao.4:35Cobbles were not fine. There is a massive pothole for starters. There are missing cobbles and fairly substantial gaps between the cobbles. There is also significant wear on the cobbles making the surface inconsistent and trecherous in the rain if it was dry the group would be wider and there'd be a risk. It was wet so the smoother cobbles and bumpy terrain that causes inconsistency created an icerink. Add to that the oil shit that will have been on the road, it was a terrible finish for all conditions. It is not paris roubaix, you won't seen shitty town centre cobbles as dangerous as that often. You can see it's consistent along the stretch through the video. Horrible shitty cobbles. I've raced on shit like this in the wet and it's just endless crashes, and general chaos and punctures in the dry.

>The biggest unknown of the stage is Lennert Van Eetvelt. He has been in a long crisis and showed no form in the run-up, but on stage 2 he was suddenly himself again. It was just also in the punching terrain where he is at his best, and it is still a little unclear how good he actually is on such a big mountain stage. However, he was flying in Lombardy in 2024, where the result and the easy final hide his strength, and he has also crushed all opposition at Jebel Hafeet and raced terrifically at Jebel Mobrah this year. He must therefore be very high on potential, but I also don't think we saw the very best Van Eetvelt on stage 2. On the other hand, the form should be on the rise.
