Arteta is a legend. Genuine legend. I was a teen when the signed hi. Remember wondering why they're buying a fairly low tier play from Everton and disliked the transfer. Then he really grew on me. Wasn't super into football so I just went off his performances and appreciated him. We owe a lot to Everton. That 3-3 was valiant. Everton have been brilliant to watch. They have a massive impact on the community. They deserve way more than they get. Hopefully they bolster the defence. Their attack is great to watch. Good team Everton.

The Eternal Arsenal Thread's culture has always been pretty tongue in cheek and a lot of the reactions back then were hyperbolic rather than sincere. Arteta wasn't a "literally who" player in 2011. He had 200+ games for Everton and was seen as one of their better players. That Everton side was consistently finishing 5th-8th while he was there - they weren't a bad side (hence why United picked up Moyes). He wasn't a superstar signing but he was by no means a nobody.

Arteta took a pay cut joining from Everton. For a guy from Spain, who played in Scotland and up north most of his prior career, the guy has always been weirdly attached to >us.
