Does anyone remember the 'literally who' posts on here when Wenger signed Arteta back in 2011? Was about the time eternal arsenal started iirc. There's no WAY we could have known back then what this man would do for this club.
>>154784592wenger's done it again
>>154784592I always knew Arteta because I was a wack ass 11 year old in 2011 who collected Premier League Top Trumps cards
>>154784592I vaguely remember them but seem to remember it feeling forced because Arsenal had played against him loads, first time I remember was in the 7-0 against Everton he was the only one doing anything for Everton
>>154784677He was alright at Everton but signing a Spaniard who hasn't once played for Spain was a real wonga moment and there were a lot of them back then
>>154784592i used to buy mik as a DB replacement/regen as a 10 on like fm01... i guess thats part of the reason im so attached to the man
>>154784592Arteta is a legend. Genuine legend. I was a teen when the signed hi. Remember wondering why they're buying a fairly low tier play from Everton and disliked the transfer. Then he really grew on me. Wasn't super into football so I just went off his performances and appreciated him. We owe a lot to Everton. That 3-3 was valiant. Everton have been brilliant to watch. They have a massive impact on the community. They deserve way more than they get. Hopefully they bolster the defence. Their attack is great to watch. Good team Everton.
>>154784778The toffees can do us one more solid this weekend
>>154784677Looks fat in this.
>>154784733It wasn't Top Trump cards soz it was Match Attacks I used to collect and yeah that was prevalent. I remember when they signed Monreal too I was like who is this guy

>>154784932Sanogo is the one for me. I remember my dad seething over him. Always saying how shit he was. He was fucking terrible. Bought for something ridiculous like 2 million. Literally a championship player at best.
>>154785068he works for the Swedish FA now. fucked up by hiring JDT, but fixed it when he hired graham potter

>>154784592I do, because at the time I saw the post in Arsenal Brasil's old blog about him, Benayoun and Mertesacker (which I knew and liked because of videogames), and vividly remember thinking "the boys will find this one funny" and rushing here to see the posts.

>>154784592Arteta was a solid player, he just went under the radar because Spain had like 10 other elite midfielders at that time. The Sun wrote an article with stats that were supposed to highlight Carrick's importance for Man United, but Arteta being above him in every one.
>>154784932I was optimistic the wonga moments would improve after they signed the invisible man but then there was the window with literally just Cech

>>154787740i mean i know it doesnt matter at all, but tradition has been that last day all teams gotta play at the same time, bit silly to make exception for them now
So at this point is it safe to say Raya's the best Arsenal keeper since David Seaman? I know some people maybe still would argue it's Lehmann but don't forget how bad his decision making got in his latter years.
>>154788225which 2 min concede do you think seal the fate of haramsdale?
Combine Arsenal Invincibles vs 25-26 Arsenal I'd replace the following:Lehman -> RayaToure -> GabrielLauren -> TimberGilberto -> Rice
>>154788730I’d have saliba and Gabriel but agreed. That we wouldn’t change the attack shows how desperate we are for a change. It’s pretty bad isn’t it. But alas, champions.
>>154788730>>154788782Saliba/Gabriel over peak Sol Campbell? Big call.
>>154787403Wenger bought into his own hype about being able to spot young talent and develop them into elite players. It was that and him penny pinching after the stadium was built. >>154788225Jens was great and a great character, but he was always a millisecond away from doing something crazy. Kind of makes me wonder if (or for how long) Arteta would put with him given his unpredictability. Arteta didn't seem to mind Ramsdale's idiocy, so maybe he'd stick with Jens since he's much better than Ramsdale.
>>154788801>so maybe he'd stick with Jens since he's much better than RamsdaleI don't remember if Jens was any good with his feet. Seems to me like Arteta value that and the commanding of the area from crosses the most.
>>154788810Yeah, I was thinking of a hypothetical modern Jens who'd at least be average with his feet, since he wasn't playing out from the back in those days. He was certainly "commanding" in the box since he was so quick to look to start fights with opposition players. He wasn't "mad Jens" for nothing.>Jens Lehmann earned a bizarre red card in 2003 when he throttled and reprimanded his own Borussia Dortmund teammate, Márcio Amoroso>He currently holds the record for most red cards for any Borussia Dortmund player, and the record for most red cards for a goalkeeper in the German Bundesliga.
>>154788890Goalkeepers are weird breed to begin with, but Jens was an especially mad one.

>>154784319but is theirs cardboard?
>ynr people saying Villa was going to win the League
>>154789325>poois smelly didnt make the cut
If they get the transfers right over summer and win the UCL next week, arsenal will win the sextuple. Community shield, european super cup, EFL cup, FA cup premier league and CL.
>>154789411It's still Villa's title to lose.
>if I lie down on the floor and cry about how no-one cares Arsenal won the league ONE MORE time then m-maybe it will be true- They've become unhinged.
>>154789218It’s good. Based is the team and fans trolling everyone for the next few months.
I'm starting to think that getting to the stadium for the parade at 9am will actually be too late, from what I'm reading. Especially if we win the final. I'm fucked.>>154789411No it was literally just one schizo saying it, nobody else.

>>154789789>If you do go then earlier the better and do take food and drink with youNot a problem that was always my plan, but the earliest I can get there is 9am. Considering the parade starts at 2pm I thought it was going to be enough to find a good spot but now I'm not so sure.
>>154789810Better spot would be further afield from the stadium Because of so many people (some estimates even have it at 2m) there's some talk they could change the route
>>154788730Saka (if half-fit) is clear of Ljungberg
>>154784592I remember people saying Arteta would be a good signing and being the one target fans were pleased with. I may have that wrong, after the 8-2 a lot was blocked out.
>>154789833>Better spot would be further afield from the stadium Not sure, in that case you would only see the bus drive by you for a minute. While at the stadium I'm expecting there will be a stage and a party and everything, like they did for the FA Cups ten years ago.>there's some talk they could change the routeI'll keep an eye out but yeah at the moment my plan is to get to the Armoury as early as possible and see how it goes.
>>154789847I was thinking the same but since he specifically said 25-26 Arsenal then Saka is nowhere near. He has been pretty shit this season.
By the way (what's left of) Highbury itself did host celebrations on the night >>154789869>While at the stadium I'm expecting there will be a stage and a party and everythingYeah I definitely understand that. it's the place to be
>>154784592The Eternal Arsenal Thread's culture has always been pretty tongue in cheek and a lot of the reactions back then were hyperbolic rather than sincere. Arteta wasn't a "literally who" player in 2011. He had 200+ games for Everton and was seen as one of their better players. That Everton side was consistently finishing 5th-8th while he was there - they weren't a bad side (hence why United picked up Moyes). He wasn't a superstar signing but he was by no means a nobody.
Arteta took a pay cut joining from Everton. For a guy from Spain, who played in Scotland and up north most of his prior career, the guy has always been weirdly attached to >us.

For as much as Manure ex players have talked shit about Arsenal this season they need to realise their team has no aura unlike us.Bruno Fernandes is their Mesut Ozil and nobody cares about any of the other brown mercenaries in their squad. They’re not scary, they’re like how we looked to them in the early 10s. Michael Carrick was talking at Old Trafford like how a senile Wonga was talking at the Emirates. Casemiro won two Mickey Mouse cups and they were talking like he’s a club legend.
>>154788730Fucking grim. Bergkamp, Pires, Ljungberg, and 7 pacemonkeys.Worse season for football of all time.
