No. But once jonas wins I hope it's over for him. He should look to retire in the next few years. Contract ends in 28. He's never winning another tour, they all understand that, it is what it is. He's had a great career. Maybe another giro and vuelta attempt next year. They should retire him from the tour. The torch is about to be passed to Paul when he comes 2nd this season at the tour.

thunder & lightning when i'm out on rides in the alps always frightens me a lot. last year it was a sunny day with some rumbling in the background but then the weather turned and i was stuck and i just saw a bunch of lightning strikes not too far away for about 30 minutes as i was scared to death and riding as fast as i could to my hotel

lightning kills very few people but thats probably because most people are indoors during lightning storms not that it's actually a small unlikely, especially when you're out hiking or riding in the alps

Dont know anything about cycling sport.
Which countries are usually best if thats even a thing?
What brands of bikes are considered best and who manufactures them, for some reason my guess is Netherlands.
Are there different type of tournaments like some are much shorter and depend more on your technique and strength while others might be longer and its more about stamina and technique?
Tell me the three most famous cyclists from any time that majority knows who enjoy this sport.
Why is it always the Russian dude who make all threads?
Sorry for retarded questions I am clueless

>Which countries are usually best if thats even a thing?
In alltime ranking Belgians rank highly, and today too a Belgian is a reasonable bet. There are also Italians, Spanish, French and Danes.
>Are there different type of tournaments like some are much shorter and depend more on your technique and strength while others might be longer and its more about stamina and technique?
The main division in road cycling is between stage races, multiday events where each day a race is held, and total time is added up, and one-day races. The race types are in the simplest terms, classified by the amount of uphill the riders have to surmount, and how steep those sections are. Stages with no uphill are called sprint stages, stages with long uphill sections are called climbing stages, and stages with short but steep uphill sectoons are called hilly.
>Tell me the three most famous cyclists from any time that majority knows who enjoy this sport.
Eddy Merckx. Undisputed GoaT. Bermanrd Hinault, in stage races consisting of the most stages which are considered the most prestigious (they are called Grand Tours), he is second only to Merckx. Roger De Vlaeminck, contemporary of Merckx, expert in one-day races.

>Which countries are usually best if thats even a thing?
there used to be host nations and guest nations. still relevant for races themselves, but in terms of riders performance it's kinda in the past. the best cyclist in the world right now is from Slovenia

>What brands of bikes are considered best and who manufactures them, for some reason my guess is Netherlands.
no such thing nowadays. "brands" usually only manufacture frames, difference between them is marginal, it's mostly prestige thing of a name, if it features in world tour and how nice it looks. there's currently no dutch brands used by WT teams, 2bh I don't even know any of note except KOGA. the best choices for consumer now is what groupset/wheels/brakes combo you can get for you shekels. Giant used to be pretty great in that regard, today it's unironically Decathlon's brand Van Rysel. and chinese brands are gaining ground fast.

>Are there different type of tournaments like some are much shorter and depend more on your technique and strength while others might be longer and its more about stamina and technique?
it's a bit more complicated than that. there generally two types of cycling competitions - one day races and multiple day races. the cycling governing body - UCI, has categories for their cycling events. 1 means one-day event, 2 means multiple days event. then goes category, UWT most prestigious, then Pro, then 1, then 2, which are not considered pro events. so when you see nomination 2.UWT it means multiple days event of World Tour category.
out of one day races the classics are usually longer than 200 km, while semi-classics are shorter. then there five most prestigious classics called the monuments - Milan - San-Remo, Ronde Van Vlaanderen, Paris - Roubaix, Liege - Bastogne - Liege and Il Lombardia.
multiple days races could be as short as 2-3 days, the most popular format is closer to one week, however. the most prestigious of them, and of sport in general, are the Grand Tours - Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a España. they last for three weeks, 21 stages with couple of rest days in-between weeks on mondays.
then there's different terrain. flat terrain favors heavier, more powerful in absolute numbers, riders and usually ends in sprint. mountainous terrain, especially with mountaintop finish, is for lighter riders with high watts per kilo ratio. then there's various terrains in-between for more versatile types.

>Tell me the three most famous cyclists from any time hat majority knows who enjoy this sport
Eddy Merckx, Lance Armstrong, Tadej Pogacar

so what's the deal with giro-tour double? is it actually the best possible prep race or are danes just coping?
i don't remember 2024 having similar discourse.
>>
>>154889842
It clearly isn't, otherwise Jonas and other Tour favourites would do it regularly. Tadej going to the Giro was seen as him attempting to win at least some GT, as he had lost the previous 2 TdFs. Danes are coping if they interpret Jonas racing the Giro differently, bookies don't lie.

>It was the record of this incident that caused problems for Dekker as he returned to the US for this year's Unbound. Speaking on his Live Slow Ride Fast podcast, Laurens ten Dam said that Dekker was stopped and questioned when he landed in Chicago, missing his connecting flight to Kansas City.
>According to his Instagram stories, Dekker has now made it to Kansas.
>Ten Dam had experienced similar the last time he entered the US, so Dekker had been calling him asking for advice.
>"Apparently, a note was made somewhere saying 'These are two sex offenders'," Ten Dam said, recalling that he had previously been stopped with his children and therefore the border authorities were "a bit more accommodating". He added: "Thomas, of course, didn’t have that."

I understand that Mangnier has a good team and he's doing well right now. The stages haven't been 120km straight roads with a 0% average gradient. But Milan is in the gutter after this giro. Not winning a stage is diabolical. Giro organisers should've done their boy a solid and had some simple sprint stages in there. Napoli stage was a fucking shocker.

>Roads here are regularly being closed because of landslides and the repairs are expensive. This is forcing local authorities to review the costs and benefits: is it worth clearing a road if it will be buried again soon? Should tens of millions be spent securing the roads with coverings and other fortifications to keep them open as important traffic arteries? If so, then who pays locals, the region or the country?

>The Alps took millions of years to form and they’ll be there for millions more. The forces that made them are still pushing the peaks upwards rather than making them collapse. Any change in the rate of erosion is tiny in relative terms. But it is a noticeable pre-occupation of residents, the local newspapers as well as geologists, hydrologists and public safety officials alike. If the Giro organisers are worried about snowfall affecting the race in the Alps every year, in the near future rockfall could become a similar concern too.

>Training files shared on Strava point to an eye catching workload. Across twelve days, Seixas covered roughly 1,500 kilometres and accumulated around 37,000 metres of climbing. To put that into perspective, that is only about 20 percent fewer vertical metres than Jonas Vingegaard is expected to tackle across the entire Giro d’Italia, but packed into nine fewer days.

Ciccone is 57 KOM points ahead of Vingegaard. Climbs tomorow award to the first: 9, 40, 50.
In the ideal-for-Jonas-scenario where he wins and Ciccone gets 0 at the finish climb, Jonas winning the KOM requires him contesting the previous sprints.
