To him, if he can't win a GS anymore there's no point in playing, it's obvious Sinner and grug won't give him a single opportunity, the weak era is over grandpa, retire!

This guy will never enter a goat debate lmao
>>
Could Sinner realistically bagel Djokovic here? Djokovic is really underperforming. Last time Djokovic was bageled at a Slam IIRC was 2020 French Open against Nadal
>>
His only chance to win a GC is to beat Sinner early in the tournament, he should try to get a worse ranking, because at this point, he's already struggling to beat decent players and he's hold so he has no more energy in the Semis to beat a good opponent

>>
>>156576166

>>
>>156576180
Djokovic benefited from a walkover and opponent retiring so he didn't play nearly as much in the leadup to the final as Sinner.
>>
>>156576194
if you call beating most players in his 40s shtting his legacy you are truly a delusional jeet
>>
>>156576177
>Reminder this is what any competent player would have done to Djokovic since 2013.
this, Djokovic only won one GS in 2012 2013 and 2014 because the big 4 was healthy enough, Djoko started winning more once Nadal and Murray started being more injured and Federer got really old
>>

what's humiliating is that Djokovic is delusional enough to believe he can still do it, the door has closed more than 2 years ago, he's too old and he's not on a weak era anymore, the more he insists the more he looks desperate, he spend his whole career saying that the only thing that drives him is having another GS trophy to add to his collection, or else he lowered his standard, or else he's too dumb to realize that he won't make it, either way it's a bad optics for him
>>
>>156578096
breh, who cares? he is still competitive to the majority of the field. why aren't you shidding and pissing this hard over the 41 year old stan wawrinka?
>>
>>156578096
He's going to go out like Fedor Emelianenko, where he lets his fans get excited for him to come out and fight and he gets knocked out by a weak jab in 2 seconds again.

A lot of athletes from that region like to just carry on fighting when they're completely washed beyond belief and full of injuries and middle aged etc.
>>
>>156578141
because Wawrinka was bad the majority of his career, he only had 3 good years, it's more the norm for him to be humiliated, we don't see that often with Djokovic

The guy who very well could've won RG got bageled by a noname nepobaby dwarf when there was nothing wrong with him, The level is not high outside the 2 trading wins, Novak just needs to slip through the draw once without facing the doping carrot or spending a whole day on court and he's gonna pounce. It's surely not pleasant for him to lose to players he knows he dominated ~3 years ago for reasons outside his control and dope but if he has to retire then almost everyone should. He can still fluke a big win and won't feel the excitement he does playing in front of thousands ever again once he stops, no reason to not delay it no one cares about h2h's or win percentages across a career that was spent mostly outside his prime
>>
>>156608981
>>
>>156609060
Not really. Grass is Zverev's worst surface. He can win against randos, even grass experts, because he's, admittedly, very, very good 90% of the time.

But he's not facing a rando now, he's facing the best who is also great in grass. I don't see him doing better than Grandpa Djo.
>>
>>156609064
>Novak just needs to slip through the draw once without facing the doping carrot or spending a whole day on court and he's gonna pounce.
People have been saying this for the past 3 years and his physical level is dropping off further and further with every single year. He's at a point where it takes everything out of him physically to get past somebody like Fraudix and he's not even cruising in early rounds either when you look at what he did vs Wu for example. RG was the perfect opportunity with Alcaraz out and Sinner losing early and what happens? He loses before even making the quarters. At this point the starts have to align so heavily for him that he might as well get 7 walkovers to be handed the trophy. It's not happening. Not at USO and definitely not next year when he turns 40 and Alcaraz should be back. Even the shitters make it way too much of a hassle for him to win comfortably. This year he basically lost to Musetti (got saved by retirement), to Fonseca and scraped by Fraudix. He's getting more vulnerable and the gap between him and Alcaraz/Sinner seems to be getting wider. AO semis was an outlier since he could save all his energy for this one match and then he couldn't do much in the final anyway.

It's time to accept that USO 23 will have been his last slam. He's definitely going to struggle with shitters he would have straight setted in his sleep not too long ago this USO. Also doesn't help that he doesn't play outside of slams anymore so he needs some time to find form but every extra minute on court also hurts him now.
>>
>>156608967
>embarrassing head to head on grass at Wimbledon

3-1 with two 5 sets matches played, one with Fed being 38 isn't an embarrassing h2h. Djokovic was rinsed in straight sets 3 years in a row at a younger age and similar age by Sinnercaz. Fed's just got more grass titles, finals, wins, win percentage, etc etc. Clearly grass goat. If you're big on grass h2h he fares better against the other relevant players from that era too. He's 2-1 vs Murray, 3-1 vs Nadal. Djokovic is 0-2 vs Murray, and 2-2 vs. Nadal. Also makes you think.
>>
>>156609125
It is his worst surface but he's more confident on the forehand now and he's not gassed like the old man. Triple 64 is a deceiving scoreline. Djokovic had absolutely zero chance that match. Maybe Zverev even sneaks in a set win. It won't be super close either but hard to get whooped harder than Djokovic did unless Zverev just capitulates 3 games in.
>>
>>156609136
until Djocko is getting embarrassed by shitters the nhe is going to continue because of the state of all tennis. If /atp/ can only relay on sinner or Alcaraz and maybe Zverev now then it's not going to be a deterrence knowing that at least one of them is going to fail in a GS. Alcaraz has now fallen to number 3 in the world, so that will be his seeding in the USO if he competes there. The thing about draws is you can get lucky on the matchups, you can also get lucky with people losing early on like sinner was taken to 5 sets in the 1st round. Let's say Sinner was knocked out in the 1st round, would Djoko now be in the final? Probably.
>>
>>156609136
>Even the shitters make it way too much of a hassle for him to win comfortably.
That's the biggest problem for him. I thought he would cruise past most players in his draw, but everything except Tsitsipas (worse than challenger level) was a battle. And this is grass, where it should be the easiest for him as the level is very poor across the board except for a couple of players, one who wasn't even playing.
>>
>>156609204
But Sinner is better than him at everything he does, and has a trillion more tricks up his sleeve. It will be as humiliating to Z as the Madrid beat down was. And that was in clay, Sasha's best surface.
>>

Why did sinner and all of them suddenly get so good and why did novak completely crash? He won 3 slams in a year when he was 36. Does your body really just completely collapse within 3 years around his age? You could tell yesterday the guy was gassed in the first set
>>
>>156609231
>Let's say Sinner was knocked out in the 1st round, would Djoko now be in the final? Probably.

Makes sense he would hang around if that's close to happening. He'd be retired already if there was a strong second tier which has been nonexistent in the 2020s.
>>
>>156609147
Nadal was shit, clay baby - 14 titles on clay and just a few outside that. I would put Nadal well behind Federer and Djoko in the big 3. Djocko was best adapted to play on all surfaces with clay being his weakest hence why he would not win RG now as anons seem to think he may well have done with Sinner and Alcaraz out. Clay is the worst surface with grass next. Hardcourts are where the serious game of tennis is played.
>>
>>156609249
Yep, people look at the 3-1 results and just think it's a typical Djokovic win. But he's truly struggling for good portions of the match at times. Also has to make way too many mini comebacks which gas him out further. That first set vs Safiullin? That hurts when the minutes and hours on court stack up.
>>
>>156609288
Djocko isn't going to care about petty interweb debates on some fantasy matchups if somehow Federer or Nadal etc were still playing and how well they would fare in the modern game. He just likes reeling off records as he knows once he retires they will have to stand on their own
>>
>>156609310
Right. He actually needed Safiullin to choke. It wasn't that bad even 12 months ago.
>>
>>156609281
I think aging happens like a step function. Sudden precipitous falls followed by plateaus.
But the inflection point for Sinner becoming the better player for me was when they traded end of season wins in the indoors Paris and Turin 2023. That imo was Novak trying to assert himself over the young buck. There was real venom in his shots. Then the floodgates opened in the following season
>>
>>156609136
His physical level was definitely weaker in 2024 after RG until early 2025 when he'd fully healed the leg, apart from when he played all out in Olympics but you could hear he was in pain every point almost. USO feels like a bigger opportunity than some others I'd say, everyone but him are actually playing tournaments outside of slams and start getting worn out by that point in the calendar. Yeah, he was certainly saved by the Musetti retirement but RG was his for the taking if he just made it past Fonseca despite the tough draw, it was the last truly hot day of the tournament and that's what did him in in that match
>>156609281
Sinner doped, Alcaraz got major winning aura due to Novak's absence in USO 2022 and then Novak got a big injury, still crawled into wimbledon final somehow but his movement took a big hit for a long time and by the time it became good again he was even older than his adversaries while they entered their prime
>>
>>156609281
>>156609281
>Why did sinner and all of them suddenly
Fixed his serve, improved his mental strength in pressure moments, improved his physicality once he hit his early 20s. The potential was always there for him. Wasn't he around top 10 at 20/21ish?
>and why did novak completely crash?
I wouldn't say he completely crashed because he's still going deep in slams. Father time remains undefeated even if more athletes these days are showing increased longevity.

Yet age isn't factored in when judging Novak's loss to Sinner yesterday or similar situations... really keeps on making one ponder...
>>
>>156609489
Age is a huge factor anon, no one is saying it isn't. Djokovic in his prime would be too much for Sinner on grass the majority of the time.
>>
>>156609524
Nah
>>
>>156609281
Sinner and Alcaraz were always good and had great potential, they were just a bit iffy until mid 2022 for Alcaraz and the end of 2023 for Sinner. There's a pretty good video by Mr. Gross reviewing a video of his that talked about them in 2021
https://youtu.be/hY0jgjch0aw
>>
>>156609489
The whole thread is talking about Djokovic being old? What are you on about? Of course age is the biggest factor in his loss yesterday. Nonsensical complaint.

>2021 Sinner
He was meme tier still.
>So Sinner, who was getting stomped out by Karatsev in Lyon, attempted to become just one more tactical user of time-out fraud. But he made a catastrophic error during his ersatz toilet break: He failed to even pretend to use the toilet. The chair umpire issued a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct because, as I confirmed with an ATP spokesperson, the line umpire who escorted him off the court reported that Sinner had not used his break for its intended purpose. And the ATP handbook decrees that “Toilet breaks should be taken on a set break and can be used for no other purpose.” Sinner, struck down by the letter of the law, mumbled something to the effect that he didn’t know and was sorry, and then resumed the match, which he would win in three sets. Next time Jannik Sinner is aiming to break his opponent’s momentum, he will be sure to shuffle into that stall and flush down a phantom poo

Do not look up what kind of legendary Swiss player Otto is currently losing to in THE Gstaad qualies
>>
I do wonder what his last match will look like. It was sad to see Roger eat a bagel for Hurkacz. Likewise Nadal having no chance against Zverev at RG, or his Davis Cup match against Botic. Curious who it'll be for Novak.

Just a holiday trip for him, can't figure other reasons for him to play post grass season clay tournaments.
The Swiss guy is some NCAA player and is apparently pretty decent. Otto's level on clay is like top200 at max.

Shelton's skill is his variety on serve especially from the left side but he lacks the great grass weapon - a sweeping slice serve. He needs a slice serve that's super secure that stays low. Also he has literally zero patterns or "set plays." He's more likely to win RG in this era than he is Wimpleton

>>156610295
bbl?
>>
>>156610182
It has to be him. He missed a golden opportunity to go far (the semis were theoretically possible).
Besides him Shitz and Kwabboli got upset hard in the quarters and had big opportunities to reach the final. But at least their losses had justifications (Cobson had immense pressure he's not used to and TayTay was injured). Shelty had no excuse

Djokovic has won half of his slams since 2018. This is not because he's as good a player as he was before then; he isn't. It's just that this 2018 - 2023 coincided with all his rivals dying a death. Sinner/Alcaraz matured, and developed their game, and were eventually able to provide the kind of consistent competition Novak hadn't see since before 2018. Also, having to beat both of them in a row is incredibly difficult. For me, it's just about competition. Yes, he's declined physically, but without the Little 2 he would still be winning slams.
