I'll watch Hockey when it starts back up, but I'm going to start by watching MY Redblacks beat up on the Blue Bombers on CBS Sports Network.

>>157006333
I dont understand why soccer fans don't watch hockey
It's the closest sport ever to soccer

It has so much of what makes soccer good (free flowing creativity, play making, goal shooting.. Etc) without all the negatives like flopping and hyper defensive 1-0 games. It's a faster compact version of soccer.
>>
>>157008514
Either they weren't memeing this whole time and actually can't see the puck or are under severe Stockholm syndrome in regards to soccer's inaction.
>>
>>157008694
theres zero rivalry in hockey that can even compare to something like roma v lazio or celtic v rangers so its probably not even as entartaining in that aspect
>>
>>157006741
Leafs will not even make the SCF before O Hexa

Is there a way for me to watch NHL games without having to stay up until 5am? Maybe something like an archive that has recordings of past games.

Sike. Anyone that watched this year Stan Lee's showed up for the first game then left cause it was fucking shit. Next year will be shit too.

It's been a year of shitty sports finals so far. Only thing that was kinda kino was basketball.
>>
>>157009989
Usually shit teams like the hurricanes choke in the conference finals but the panthers weren’t there to stop them
>>
>>157008514
It's just not the same. I don't understand why you dislike football so much in north America. What is the actual reason beside meme explanations? You want a sport where you have to buy equipment I suppose? Hit a ball with a stick or tackle each other with a helmet? All that is fine actually, but I don't understand why therefore you have to dislike football for some bizarre reason. Most of you probably never played it so you can not relate. In Europe there is a strong football culture starting in elementary school. It's so simple that everyone played it at least once in his life. We can relate with the sport and that's probably why we like it the most. It's also really satisfying to kick a ball, you should try it.
>>
>>157011330
>What is the actual reason beside meme explanations?
It's not a good sport and all the athletes that play it at a high level are exceptionally faggy
>Most of you probably never played it so you can not relate
Almost everyone in North America has played soccer for at least a few years. It's why disingenuous yuros keep going "IT'S THE FASTEST GROWING SPORT IN THE US! HANDEGG IS DEAD!"
>>
>>157008811
We used to have good rivalries, at least here in toronto with montreal and later ottawa. But around the 2010 the jew running the league put an extremely low salary cap which made it impossible to build a dynasty and maintain it for a decade. This imo killed rivalries, because every few years either you or your rival will become so shit that it isn't even competitive anymore, you don't meet each other in the playoffs anymore so there's no high stakes and the rivalry dies.
Now all the rivalries seem so fake and just based on whatever team we lost to most recently in the previous year's playoffs.
>>
>>157008514
aside from trying to put an object into a goal more than your opponent they arent really that close. you sound like somebody who has never even shot a puck before.

Football is actually the most popular organized sport for kids to play here in Canada, and it's probably very common in the US too. What isn't popular here is watching club football matches. This has to do with timezone difference from the european leagues, lack of identity with european clubs, not much TV coverage (probably because not enough time for ads). Also most teens/adults stop playing it and move onto other sports like hockey or baseball.

that's all amerimutt entertainment product leagues

footsie is very cheap compared to hockey

horse riding
hockey
figure skating

are most expensive children sport, because renting ice rinks costly

It's a lot more satisfying to hit a ball with a stick than to kick it. You're a primate, act like you've got opposable thumbs for once.
>>
>>157012012
in countrys like germany where they have a rich soccer culture you can travel by bus to play 10+ different teams of roughly equal skill level to grow the game at the grass roots level and still sleep in your own bed at night. here as soon as you want to start playing "competitively" you have to pay for the travel and lodging. you are going to have to take an 8+ hour bus ride to the games and probably sleep in a marriott or best western for a couple nights too. the travelling costs add up quickly to make it not really a poor person sport.
>>
>>157011330

a team that outshot their opponent 20-0 nearly could have lost and had yet another world cup settled via penalty kicks.

there just. isn't. enough. scoring.

"ohhh so you want it to be like basketball where they score every 30 seconds?"

as though there's no in between. if you took hockey but changed the ice to grass, the puck to a ball, and sticks to feet - you'd have the best version of soccer. as it happens something close to this exists and it's called futsal.
>>
>>157012435
the german is wrong to think we don't play soccer. But the real question is why don't we watch soccer. We aren't unique here, even in Czech Republic hockey gets more viewership than soccer, but more Czechs play soccer than hockey.
>>
cant wait to see the biggest kwab play again

Same, he plays my teams in January I might go to see the KWAB in person

For me it's the Boston Bruins
>>
>>157011330
Everyone here plays soccer from ages 6-10. Probably canada as well. We just don't watch it or take it seriously in college or professionally.
>>
>>157013738
Why
>>
>>157013707
This
>>
>>157013130
a hockey rink has 10 skaters, a soccer field has 20 players, its a completely different game to maneuver past 10 defenders than 5. in hockey a player can easily carry the puck from one end of the rink to the other, but the players in soccer would be gassed by half time doing that. i dont know if you are actually retarded of if you have just never skated before.
>>
Games don't matter until April.
>>
>>157013826
Haven't seen them win a cup in 15 years.
>>
>>157014003
And that’s a good thing
>>
>>157008514
Hockey is pretty white coded ngl. The lack of black players probably throws off many people. I would say basketball is closer honestly and many people I know like basketball and soccer. Liking soccer and hockey is kinda rare
>>
>>157011330
because it is fucking boring?
no score for 2 fucking hours
>>
>>157006741

Is hockey any good? I watch baseball and the ocassional football match (WC mostly). Baseball for the comfiness.

bump from /afl/ to heem the screeching monke ballers from the catalogue

We don’t like watching sports where men are rewarded for pretending to be hurt. We prefer watching sports where men pretend to not be hurt, and gain nothing more than an extra slice of the pain or ccasionally some reconstructive surgery. Soccer is for women.

Thank you, afl seems interesting.

>>
>>157014372
Hockey is fun for newcomers because of all the hits, but you'll probably have a hard time keeping track of the action/puck for the first few games.
Downsides are there can be a lot of play stoppages and commercials, and too many regular season games that don't matter, even a playoff series is long with up to 7 games.
I would just watch playoff games or a stanley cup final because the intensity is higher, more people are hitting, and the quality of teams is higher.

Hockey seems like a fun sport to play and watch, with lots of fights. Unfortunately, the media here pretends the sport doesn't exist, and it's practically impossible to find a place to play it here. But when I watch it, I think it's cool.
