>Jonathan Vaughters, now manager of the EF-Education EasyPost team currently riding in the Tour, and a former teammate to Lance Armstrong who was stripped of seven Tour wins for doping, supported the nocturnal tests. Vaughters, posting on X, said: “Two am testing is one of the very effective ways to prevent peptide (EPO, HGH) and testosterone micro dosing. If [the] UCI had tested us in 2001 at 2am? We’d all have been suspended and saved the sport 25 years of drama.”

Remco Evenepoel and several of his teammates at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe were also subjected to a test late last night, as confirmed to our editorial staff and as team boss Ralph Denk told the German broadcaster ZDF this morning.

https://www.cyclingweekly.com/racing/tour-de-france/very-effective-tour-de-france-team-manager-applauds-night-time-anti-doping-tests

>In a further update, just before the start of stage 16, one team – who cannot be named for legal reasons unless they consent to being identified – informed CW that all of their riders were tested by DCOs at 10pm on Monday night. It is unusual for an entire team’s roster to be mass tested.

Got to be PooAE right? Only thing I don't get is why they'd tell CW of all outlets. It's a niche cycling tabloid that doesn't hold much prestige. They have been imperious this tour. Everything has gone through them. No other team has put on a full team display like they have. Visma have been mediocre, ineos have been absent, redbull have been decent but nothing special. Decathlon have been under the radar compared to previous years and it's only Seixas who's been doing well. Lidl have been decent but nothing special or unexpected. It can only be PooAE. Which is excellent news of they're being given such a stern warning. Maybe they'll calm down.

I suspect financial fair play rules will be implimented quite soon off the back of this. This is a sign there are disgruntled groups or individuals who are sick of what they're seeing. They can't catch them in the act but they will be able to intimidate and impliment bureaucratic measures to impede the teams ability to completely dominate the sport.

Pogacar completely dominates the sport. any team assembled around him is just along for the ride.
>>
PidCHAD has over 9 minutes on 10th place. I wonder if we'll see any more of his attacks. He's had a bloody good race so far. Hats off to him. Damien Howson has been very solid too. Carapaz should keep working for a top 10. Jegat and Voisard have no place here.

>>157052249
How do you know? That makes no sense. I'm assuming PooAE were also tested then. Redbull have had an average race. Maybe slightly under expectation with Lipowitz.
>>
>>157052281
His team have put out incredible performances. On MVDPoo's stage they held world class breakaway riders to a tight gap and just sat up. Pollitt has been excellent in the mountains. Yates is riding well but I don't find it shocking because he's had that level of performance in the past. They have 4 riders that could realistically finish top 10 if they were leaders, 2 riders will podium the race. 4 riders in the top 20 is the most out of any team and though that's not like having 4 in the top 10, it's still a massive feat. Their strength is unparalleled.
>>
>>157052369
I think it's to be expected when you build a team around someone who is clearly the best cyclist in the world. Ayuso is gone because he clearly wanted to be the top dog somewhere else. I think most riders probably don't mind being in a support role. Maybe they don't personally think they're good enough to be the best even realizing they're elite cyclists. maybe the pay makes it worthwhile. Del Toro is clearly the only other rider on the team that can possibly win the tour in the future and he clearly seems happy being the understudy while he's presumably being groomed for his own run. They didn't even win the team time trial, so it seems clear to me they've been specifically built to suit Pog's chances. yeah, it's boring but I don't think anyone should reasonably expect something different.

None of this is impressive or not expected. The richest team with the best cyclists are doing well. Wow what a surprise. Their riders are not over performing. They are top riders having a good race. Many other teams have done the same in the past.
>>
>>157052461
There is an enormous gulf in ability, my point is the FFP rules are coming in hot to prevent this. Of course the richest team with the best rider will have the strongest team, but it's been so much stronger than the rest. It's only accelerating the FFP rules which I cannot wait for.

so what have been the most schizo takes on the nightly doping controls? Apparently the anti doping squad thought last week's performances were so freakish that they believed there was a high likelihood of dopage.
Also... do you believe Pogacar was trying to get Del Toro to win the stage? Do you believe Remco could actually beat Pogacar last stage? Me personally am very skeptical that Pogacar was basically a shadow of his usual self the literal same day they checked him for doping in a highly unusual and unexpected way... Also, fishboi decides to leave the race also the same day.
What are the fucking odds Berts?
>>
>>157053430
If you think teams are doping during competition then you're dumber than any team that would actually do that (and no team is dumb enough to do that)
>>
>>157053487

the teams aren't involved, Marco. After the Festina fiasco, the teams pressured the riders to take care of it themselves.

Heard this. Teams assist in a way apparently. Whether it's telling them it's too obvious, giving small bits of advice, giving the rider trusted contacts. Apparently some teams are more willing than others, and other teams have zero tolerance.

he dropped everyone except toro and remco, took almost a minute on seixas, while going at something like 70% effort. he was basically strong as ever.

I remember reading about the ice trade where they cut massive ice blocks and sold them around the world for cooling. Having to dry proteins or stock nuts over winter must have been shit. There are places in the british isles that still live a semi sustenance farming lifestyle. Some of the small scottish islands still smoke fish for the winter because import costs are too expensive to solely rely on. I'm sure they can but when you're surrounded by fish you might as well save a chunk of money.

>Is that the team that had all their riders tested though?
Found this english article. Twitter says all 8 were tested at the same time.
https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling/we-were-also-visited-last-night-remco-evenepoel-and-red-bull-team-subject-of-overnight-doping-tests-at-tour-de-france

>"We were also visited last night. Some of the riders were already asleep and went along with the checks," reported team manager Ralph Denk on ZDF's morning show.

>“It certainly hinders recovery,” Denk said. “Primarily, we have a dark past in cycling, and therefore it’s good that checks are being carried out here." The legal framework of doping tests allow for night testing during the race and Denk feels it adds credibility to the sport. He added: “The regulations allow for checks to be carried out late at night. It ensures that our sport is clean, that it’s credible, and therefore this is part of it.”
>>
>>157053969

The speed difference on the flat part today, between checkpoint 3 and finish, between Evenepoel and Pogacar was such that if instead today just that part but 193km long, they would be tied in GC.

What do yo mean, that would have been great for him. More preptime for the next day or just get drunk earlier.

remco can't keep it up for 190km. pogi should have superior endurance later on

I just came home. This looks extremely painful. His right shoulder is definitely broken. FUCK FUCK FUCK
>>
>>157059552
Side note there is no reason why they cant do an indoor TT and use the max distance per hour. Just imagine breaking the hour record in a grand tour, that would be awesome.
>>
>>157059552
they don’t even go above 30km and seixas lost time today so probably even more technical bullshit were you only can squeeze 20 secobds out

I'm actually suprised how much slop cyclists consume. When they get stage wins they all drink at dinner, and now this.

If I'm 60 kg and two weeks into a grand tour I don't think I could handle alchohol or fucking slopdonalds, my stomach would die

>>157059734
it's just macros mostly, unless there's banned hormones etc in the meat. less of a problem in europe
>>
>>157059793
If they didn't put so many additives and preservatives it would be perfect. Those nitrates destroy the stomach. Fresh beef burgers with fries is perfect. Side salad or chicken or cheese salad too. Burger meals are the best.
>>
nothing moved today TT’s are useless this short
>>
>>
honestly, without Jonas even if he had 0 chance of winning, the tour is just much more boring. Even the TT today would have been more interesting if he was involved.
>>
>>157059734
well they're burning like 5000 calories in a stage if not more, they can pretty much eat whatever they want at that point
>>
>>157060050
>>157060419
im not talking calories or macros, im talking grease and checmicals, even though european mcdonads is like 5x healthier than america, mcdonalds bloats me the fuck up
>>
>>157060317
The mountain stages will be piss boring as well, because UAE will focus on keeping Del Toro on the podium.
>>
>>157060943
doesn't really matter what they eat though, even if it's 100% slop they're doing so much exercise that their bodies just push everything through. Similar stuff with other athletes, they can just consume thousands upon thousands of calories per day and because the amount of work they are doing it just doesn't matter even if the shit is unhealthy

I, against all reason, believe that Magnus CORT will win tomorrow.
>>
>>157061082
I used to think this but really it was just weak cope to justify eating junk. It does make a difference. Shit food makes you feel like shit. Doesn't matter if you need the calories.
>>

>And my king Remco what a lad
I like remco but if he got too good he'd get the poogacar treatment. He is a weak bitch who was converted to islam. As long as he stays as a complete meme rider who wins occasional monuments and WC's I will be content. Fundamentally he's a grotty cuck freak like poogashart and cringefaart.

Not a bad shout. I'd love for a Cort or Simmons (mostly simmons) win tomorrow. Teams are starving little africans right now. The lack of stage opportunities is brutal. It'll be fought like a world war. I suspect the doping suspicions are related. The lack of opportunities is damaging to the sport. Merilier death is a good thing because of that. IF it ends in a sprint, and I don't doubt sprinters will be turning themselves inside out tomorrow, it will be a hard fought finish. The narrative going into this mediocre profile is brilliant. It makes a very average looking stage into a completely open book.

McDonald's is my go to post race food as you can always find one somewhere close by and get food fast. The sloppiness isn't a problem if you don't eat slop all the time.

I've been trying to test my semi local artisanal burger joint that has gotten a lot of good reviews now two days in a row but I've been out too late. Yesterday I was there 15 minutes after it closed and today it was closed when I got there 15 minutes before it was supposed to be closed. I'll get to test it some day.

It's at the widest part with bar tape Bert. The 40 cm width is a literal nonissue. Even my aerocoach bar clears that.

Give me back baby face remco and all the hopium that came with him.
