the 2010s were the dark ages of cycling, it was absolutely dismal. operacion puerto, and later, the armstrong confession left cycling all but dead. on top of that the financial crisis caused a diminishing in sponsorships, several races (especially in italy) disappearing from the calendar for years. italian and spanish cycling in general have been at an all-time low since then. sky then stepped into the vacuum and introduced their joyless corporate style into the world of cycling, creating their freak rider who became a tour contender overnight (unexplained to this day). the only rider worth remembering from the 2010s is peter sagan. happily a new dawn appeared in 2020. we have been witnessing sport on a level so incredible for the last six or seven years that it's hard to fathom. pogi, mvdp, remco, jonas, rochlitz, aert (i'll even include pedersen). and as if that wasn't enough there come two wonderkids, toro and seixas. i can only be grateful.

>>157139564Meridas are generally not the go to bikes unless you can get it cheap cheap. They're just behind. Not terrible but a trek will generally be niced. The iso speed is actually functional and comfortable. Trek have very good customer service as well. It'd be my go to if presented with those options. The geometry is also very good and notably comfortable for longer rides. Wheel base is longer. Frames have excellent warranty. Merida is like a Seat or Skoda, trek is like a BMW.

>>157140500Crayon bikes are decent, I was never a fan because it seemed like the brand was heavily reliant on advertising instead of cutting edge product. Trek colours is probably the worst part of the brand. A lot of colours are hideous and they only do limited colours so you have little choice. A lot of the time the nicer colours will, naturally, be at higher price points so I assume it encourages people to get a more expensive model. Canyon on the other had have always had decent colour schemes and they look quite flash.

But if it's completely different of course you can buy the bike and go to another store for parts, services etc. Generally the store you buy it from gives better deal on everything to a) get as much through the till as possible and b) to win your continued custom. If you were to buy the bike and go somewhere though you probably won't get discount on pedals etc. Depending if you buy it built, if your local builds it and you get the parts from them, that would be a sound plan to build trust with the local. Even a 50£ check over service as they fit the pedals etc to ensure it's built well. Bike stores are not like a lidl or clothes shop, it's very much worth building a relationship with them in my experience. Knock things off the cost, put extra care in, you can meet other people. I'm only speaking from UK experience of course.In terms of warranty, you'd likely have to go back to the other shop if there is an issue. Some dealers take on warranty cases but most the time they don't directly benefit from processing a claim so often they job it off and tell you need need to contact the bike company or previous store. It's all fairly minor in the grand scheme of things so whatever you chose to do will be fine either way. If you're buying parts, shoes, helmet, kit etc in one place they might offer money off but obviously all depends on the store. Trek I know push for discounting because they want to win loyalty, even though margins are pretty thin for a lot of things.
