I basically just hate the JGR #18 in ARCA and whichever nepo baby is behind the wheel on a given day.
They have probably 20x the budget into that car and team that someone like Kitzmiller has, and it doesn't benefit the driver at all to be playing on Very Easy mode all the time.
Riley Herbst and William Sawalich were in it before and they both still suck.

the shitbox classes are fun. they run on the infield short(er) oval.
Honda Prelude/Civic/Acura RSX, Toyota Celica, etc. are favored in the Hornets, Six Shooters are mostly the various V6 GM shitboxes like Pontiac Grand Prix, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, etc.
I feel like they could run I4 and V6 together and still have about the same amount of parity.

That's not that bad for that level of facility, honestly. I would compare Road America to Spa in a lot of ways.
Speaking of annoyingly-long drives, I'm still thinking about taking a trip for the Rolex 24 next year. Definitely going back to Sebring.
>>

'road' course would be the first one I do I think, pretty sure the insurance is cheaper for that vs a higher speed big oval.
>>157219313
Three hours isn't bad for spectating, but driving a big ass trailer with two cars in it, fuel, spares, setup, teardown, etc. It can cost a lot up front, and if you get disabled early on you basically spent a shitload of time just going to buccees for the day.

>>157220053
if you think about it, it's the same design as an airplane, but in reverse. planes want to create lift to fly, race cars want to create downforce to stick to the track. when shit gets fucked up, the aerodynamics can react in ways that might not have been anticipated.
>>
>>157220034

>>157220111
Correct, but sometimes aircraft can exhibit almost impossible manuvers, not intended or engineered into their designs. The F14 for example, with how it can stall and be operated basically in reverse for some aerobatics that no other plane can do, are extreme examples of how much aero isn't known until it's fully put to the test by pros.

A man of culture, I see. But yeah, I'd rather go to IMSA or IndyCar and I do, but the only tracks particularly bear me are dirt, short ovals and drag strips. I don't follow any of that style of racing, but it's definitely fun to go see them run. So, I noticed this watching Miatas, but the grip to speed/power allows them to get away with shit that would wipe out half the feild in bigger cars, so they can just go pretty much as hard as they want. Of course, I like the bigger cars and I appreciate the skill it takes to drive them, but you don't need to have a fancy car and spend a million bucks to have a good race.
>>157219291
>Road America is the ultimate but it's also a 3 hour drive for me.
Road Atlanta is my closest track and it's about 4.5 hours, which is acceptable for Petit. My rule of thumb is that I don't want to drive to a race where the one way trip is longer than the actual race.
>>
>>157221712
>Thanks for all the pics!
no problem, I tried. I feel like it's easier to get good pics at Road Amerca in turn 5. they go down the long straight and then have to brake hard, then go up the hill under the Corvette bridge into turn 6. relatively slow speeds through there, you can get a good phone pic sometimes.

It is really hard from the stands. Places where you can get close to the track are a bit easier, but getting good pics at night is extremely difficult, even under stadium lighting.

In the world. Maybe Surfers or Adelaide, but that has a lot to do with the cars. They are much more robust and can handel the bumps and walls better.
I don't have high hopes for Markham and DC because most street courses are kind of crap their first year, but I'm ready to be surprised.

>timed race under SRO, may or may not get to 1000km
stop with the fucking LIES

Every WEC 1000 Miles of Sebring was time limited. Petit Le Mans had a distance limit until the 1000 miles was dropped after NASCAR bought it.

petit le mans was 10 hours or 1000 miles whichever came first from the beginning, they dropped the distance since they never never reached it

>it this shit ends up as slow as Toronto last year it will be like 2h50m, or put another way it could take longer than some 500 mile races.

>you don't call it a 250, or a 500, or whatever number, in the USA, unless it is that amount of miles!
This always bothered me with things like the Food City 500.
It would take 939 laps to do 500 miles at Bristol BTW. I can't imagine we'd have more than 10 cars left by the end.

They achieved 1000 miles every time except 2009, but that race didn't reach 10 hours either. They dropped the distance because NASCAR wanted the race to end at a consistent time like all the other races.

asscar should not be allowed to own IMSA

What is IMSA doing? I like factory-backed GT teams but mandating them for manufacturers doesn't seem wise.

It sounds like greed and pushing customer teams out of the top rung of GT racing
Then again it could alleviate funding concerns teams have, which Pfaff is pulling out of GTD Pro over
On the other hand you could have teams in a weird spot where they have 3 pro drivers contracted but no factory money/resources and thus are ineligible for both GTD and GTD Pro
IMSA is creating problems for themselves where there were none. Fans like seeing plucky customer teams like AO Racing succeed against factory backed efforts.
>>
What the fuck did he mean by this.
Guess how many full season GTD-Pro entries don't receive factory support. Hint: it's less than one.

Cockblocking manufacturers that won't spend more money as usual.

Good times for racing in Iowa the next few months. NASCAR at Iowa speedway, nationals for 2 different sprint car series in the next 2 weeks after, then late model nationals in September.

ARCA West is at Portland with the Indycars, Saturday 9 PM ET

Two drivers on the West entry list have ARCA road course wins: Sam Corry, who won earlier this year at Sonoma and Dale Quarterly, who won at Lime Rock in 2001 and 2003.

Not without previous precedent they really shouldn't have relatively low gantries over the back half of a 1 mile straight.
>>
Indycar should make power steering totally optional. I know they want wahmen in the sport but adding weight when it was never necessary before should be optional
