Froome was entertaining too, a GC contender attacking on a downhill is not something I'll forget any time soon. While I'm still not convinced he wasn't motor doping, I have fond memories of him running up the mountain. I loved 22 and 23. I don't know why exactly, but I just like the Fishboy. I don't think I've ever hated any cyclist as much as I hate Pogacar in more than two decades of cycling.

This is far from the truth. Nothing was certain, ever. There was weakness every single tour. Organisers even changed the routes to put froome at a disadvantage, which sky purposefully proved a point with. This era was significantly better than the current era.

Frome in particular lost a fair bit of time in each tour, mostly to quintana. If he wasn't on a retarded team, quintana wins. They were far closer than people give credit. Especially compared to today. Froome's attack on flat terrain with Sagan, Bodnar and Thomas was LEGENDARY because it came out of nowhere. Shit like that made the sky era fascinating.

based retcon, sky had the strongest fucking team by miles in a peloton full of amateurism sending tridents to combat them, quintana post 2016 (the aple d'huez where he truly distanced froome and would've probably won the Tour had he not lost minutes in flat stage like the frail midget he was and the subsequent vuelta were his swansong) was never a threat, I know that because I wanted quintana to win.
sky were toying with the likes of bardet and rigoberto uran in the latter years ffs, if we have different versions of reality, just look at the bookies odds of who were the pre tour favourites back then

Recency bias. Do you remember their feats? They were both immense. Their WC runs were brilliant. They both showed up big time int he tour. They both hit classics hard and were excellent. Didn't need 80km to create 'entertainment'. They were brilliant and created compelling races. They are objectively far more entertaining than poogacar and MVDPoo.

In terms of Sky, that era was more open, I reiterate. They were not imperious. 2018 was compelling. You said yourself, Quintana should have won the tour but his team was retarded. That made for a nail biting tour. Particularly the final GC stage. When have we had that recently? When have we watched the clock to see whether the tour is in jeaopardy? We haven't Tour has been won by stage 12 for the past few years. Where is the joy in that? Froome put in unexpected attacks, he had issues, he had crashes, he had compelling rivals. 2010's seemed very genuine. The riders seemed genuinely pleased to win. Now it's an expectation. There is no emotion. There is no competition. PooAE are by far the strongest, as were Sky, but there was an air of doubt in every tour Sky won. Things could go the other way. With poogacar it's just a given.

2003 was less than 2 minutes, one of the only tours where Jan was able to put in a successful attack. The rain TT was tense as fuck, and if it wasn't for a crash the final GC gap would have been under a minute, and representative of the close tour too. Remember, this was the tour where Lance crashed, Jan waited and then got fucked for it. Pretty entertaining, if you ask me.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for the style of TT that peak Ullrich and 22 Fishboy delivered.
