A.I has already spoken and has selected...

>Which MLB baseball team would Mr. Badger from Wind in the willows support?

>That's a delightfully literary question.
If I had to pick one, I'd say the St. Louis Cardinals. Here's my reasoning:

>Traditional and respectable. Mr. Badger is the eldest and wisest of the riverbank friends. He values old customs, continuity, and doing things the proper way. The Cardinals are one of baseball's oldest, most tradition-rich franchises.
Steady excellence. Badger has little patience for flashy antics or needless drama. The Cardinals have long been known for fundamentally sound baseball and consistent success rather than spectacle.

>Midwestern sensibility. Badger is practical, hospitable, and quietly dignified. The Cardinals' reputation and fan culture fit that understated, community-oriented image.

>Other fun possibilities:
>Detroit Tigers – A good fit if you focus on Badger's sturdy, no-nonsense demeanor and appreciation for hard work.

>Pittsburgh Pirates – Ironically, probably not. Mr. Badger would likely disapprove of anything associated with pirates. Toad, on the other hand, might become an enthusiastic Pirates fan simply because the name sounds exciting.

>Chicago Cubs – If you imagine Badger as the sort who loyally supports the same club through thick and thin, the Cubs' long-suffering but devoted fanbase has some appeal.

>Badger, though? I'd still put my money on the Cardinals—a club with deep roots, quiet confidence, and a preference for doing things the right way.

Who said "Tigers could win it all this year". They 100% could win the divison (hell they still might) and that potentially sets them up with a first round bye. They would've had an excellent chance to make a deep run in a weak AL with even a couple BP moves, and given the somewhat random nature of playoff baseball, it's fucking absurd to sell arguably the two best available pitchers at the deadline when they stand to gain much more even in the short term
>>

This is what you wanted the tigers to do. You're really mad that they didn't do it and I can't figure out why
>>
>>157274078
Absolutely illogical to me to get rid of two of the best pitchers who are on expiring contracts when the path to upgrading the team was the cheapest and most plentiful option. Tigers will fall into the same trap of the Orioles who thought "just think how much better we'll be NEXT year" before guys started getting injured or failed to continue to develop. Prospect hugging is absolutely fucking demented

>>157274116

>doesn't culminate in actually winning anything
They are 2.5 GB of a first round bye. You'd need to win 3/5 in a series with Skubal and Mize going 1-2. With their offense and a shored up bullpen that is a tremendously good chance to reach the ALCS. Who knows after that? There's no guarantee in a year or two they'll be in the same position (they should, the AL Central is ass, although Sox have turned the corner and have more cheap/feckless ownership). Like if you told a Tigers fan they would "only" have a great chance at making the ALCS before the season started they would be disappointed? The all-or-nothing mentality to playoff runs by some of these teams (and fans) is poisonous

Stop pretending like the tigers were forced to trade their only good player. Its embarassing to be that buckbroken and say it was a smart GM move. I can boot up MVP 05 and rattle off dynasty after dynasty and the key is to sign your best players to a contract instead of trading them for 28 yr old prospects

If they didn't go 6-22 in May they would be running away with the central and never would have been forced to trade anyone. And somehow they can still win the central. Skubal never wanted to stay with Detroit anyway, so it was better in the long run that they got rid of him now for something instead of having him walk away next year for nothing.

All 9 of the Red Sox lineup are in contention for the MVP award

All 4 pitchers are in contention for the Cy Young

First time a team has won 40 of the last 41

They are predicting that they will sweep the league the rest of the way (playoffs included).

They are all projected to land 800 million dollar contracts like Juan Soto.

They’ve swept 13 straight games of teams in first place.

They should be able to sweep every single team the rest of the way.

No team in the history of baseball has ever only lost 1 game since June 17th. They have a 45 day winning streak.

It doesn’t happen. Teams show consistency throughout the year they don’t just lost 70 games and then suddenly win 40 games. How is that even possible. If they’re so good why didn’t they do that at the beginning of the season.
>>

Yeah it's no wonder they made the desperation move for skubal.

They’re not going to prevent the lockout, the new baseball agreement is going to be advantageous to them. In the last century the Yankees won the world series at least once every few years. They’re trying to do the same for teams like the Red Sox so they pass the Yankees. Then next century they’ll pick another team to win 3 titles every 10 years. Who knew Contreras was better than Judge, Durbin better than Stanton, this kid from Triple A better than Bellinger, that Sonny Gray was the best pitcher in baseball while making 3 million dollars. How does a 3 million dollar pitcher come out of the blue and win the Cy Young after being trash his entire career. That’s how I know the game is fixed. Baseball is dying, that’s why they're scripting it to get things going, Fenway Park has been selling out the last three weeks because Red Sox fans spend the most so they're going to give them the most titles.
>>
>>157277300
Right now they have Crochet and Anthony coming back. There’s no sense in watching baseball because you know the Red Sox aren’t going to lose a game the rest of the way.

The Red Sox have won 4 rings since the 2009. It was the same set up in the 20th century though, the Yankees rigged it to get 27 world series titles. Baseball is an association, all the owners split the revenue. The new leaders of the association are the owners of the Dodgers, now it’s the Red Sox turn to go back to the World Series where if I’m correct they should lose to the Dodgers.

>The Red Sox only win because they cheat! They’re not even good, they randomly won 4 world series because they cheated!
Not exactly
1. We were already one of the top 2 teams in the AL in the early 2000s (at that point in time the Yankees and Sox were objectively better than any NL team). In 2004 we landed Schilling and grabbed some key pieces at the deadline to finally get the better of the Yankees. It was smooth sailing from there to the chip.
2. We were still a contender for the remainder of the 2000s. In my opinion, 2007 was the “goldilocks” zone which balanced seasoned veterans in their waning primes (Varitek, Drew, Lowell, Ramirez, etc.) with young upcoming talent (Pedroia, Youklis, Ellsbury to an extent). While we were still great directly before and after that year, we were in the perfect position to make another title run.
3. If one of our titles were to be considered “lucky” it would be 2013. But then again it would be more appropriate to call our 2012 campaign “unlucky”. We still had the most clutch ballplayer of all time in Ortiz, but most importantly, our clubhouse culture and chemistry was unmatched.
4. If you put an asterisk next to our 2018 championship, you’re a dumbass. We were by far the most talent-loaded in the league, only the Astros could hold a candle. Betts, JD Martinez, Bogaerts, JBJ, Sale, Price, Porcello. Eovaldi. Holy shit. Too bad we discarded all of them like they were pieces of garbage.
>>
>>157277588
Judge is bringing the team down, they'll never win a WS with him, and he’s a bad leader with empty accomplishments. Meanwhile Willson Contreras in his age 40 season turned the entire Red Sox clubhouse around into World Series favorites in 4 months. How don’t Craig Breslow and John Henry have 8-9 World Series titles since 2018?
>>
>>157277632
I am NOT reading all of that
>>
>>157277632
2003 is probably the most legitimate one they have because in 2013 every other team was injured, it’s pretty much a flu ring and in 2018 none of those players were good. JD Martinez hit 55 home runs because they were cheating, the only one that’s good is Betts and they have an asterisk next to 2018 like the Astros have an asterisk next to 2017.

Literally literally literally all you literally need to do is 50-50 revenue split between MLBPA and MLB (owners will never open their books), full revenue sharing between all clubs based on national and local deals (this one actually makes sense for MLB with the death rattle of cable and MLB wanting to offer their own all-in-one streaming service, but good luck convincing the Dodgers, Yankees, etc.), and set harsher penalties for teams exceeding AND falling short of payroll at the end of the year by starting with loss of picks/bonus pool money right out of the gate. Wowee look at that greater parity and MLBPA would be making more total money without a cap on individual player earnings.

Sounds nice but it wouldn't work. Revenue is so fungible and so much of it can be taken off the books that it's functionally meaningless. You know Cohen is never going to agree that his gigantic casino complex counts as Mets revenue, same with everyone else who make their real money on parking and shops and stuff around the stadium.

The answer is to just raise the league minimum salary a bit, maybe tweak arb some, and most importantly get TV/Streaming revenue sharing sorted out for the 2030's.

I was a line cook for 3 years. As a man you have 2.5 options.
Option 1: get a stem degree, work for the MIC, retire comfortably with 2 properties and a beach house.
Option 2: learn a trade, get good at it, eventually charge people out the ass for your time. Retire with joint issues but your home is payed off and you own a boat.
Option .5: be the son of someone successful and inherit

A National League team needs to beat the Red Sox in the World Series. They need to experience the same shock and disappointment the 2001 Yankees felt after getting upset to an out-of-nowhere Diamondbacks team, and started their 25 year downward slide they're still continuing on.
>>
>>157278906
You're probably not too dumb to get a stem degree, but not interested in math and science to actually learn what is required. There is a difference. You need to find what interests you and does it make enough money for you to live on. I love music, but I can't pay a mortgage by gigging. So I'm wageslaving in the stem world.

Baseball would be boring as fuck with a salary cap, it'll just be smart flyover teams winning and most of the country won't care. The fanbases are way more regional and the MLB can't really market some flyover team like Brewers to the whole country the same way NFL can with the Chiefs.
