Aston Villa sold Rogers to Chelsea for an inflated £117m fee to help them with PSR, and in return, they agreed to help take players off Chelsea’s books at inflated prices for PSR too.

Then they bought Jackson for £65m and Garnacho on loan with a £55m obligation.

Not the first time Aston Villa and Chelsea have done this type of deal, btw.

Nothing dodgy going on.

As a Hull fan I was amazed at how bad United were. I only saw them against the best teams last year and I know they had a good record against the other top-half clubs, but they were fucking dreadful on Saturday.

I'd like to think Coventry will be as beatable this weekend, but it'll be a much tougher test

>Chelsea are in talks to sign Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor. The Blues expressed an interest in the 18-year-old Italian when they signed right-back Marco Palestra from the Serie A side in July. BBC Sport has been told Atalanta are willing to sell Ahanor if their 40m euro (£34.3m) valuation is met.
He'll rotate and be sold in 1-2 years time if he doesn't make it for £65m to Villa or somebody.

No shit, retard. But to claim they got Wirtz for £90m isn't true. They wrote a cheque and have to pay £115m for him. The fact they wrote a £35m cheque the other way doesn't mean you got him for £90m.

Net spend is cope. We mocked Arsenal fans for it during the Wenger years, you don't get to pull it out now. Why does selling a player for £50m and buying one for £150m somehow make the fact you spent £150m better? If United get a sponsorship deal worth £300m and they can use it to spend on players, why is that money 'less' than fees gained via transfers? You're still buying players, you're still spending money.

>>157497270
What's he worth then? Note Maguire went at the same age to United for £80m 6 years ago.

Konza is worth 30-35m. I can say that with a straight face. We're not in an era of excess anymore, we're in an era of stupidity and I suspect dodgy deals behind the scenes to navigate PSR. I just read its 55m for Konsa, its too much, I stand by that. But Barcola, Delap, Jackson fees are laughable, scandalous. Need investigating.

The Maguire era was a period of excess. Woody was throwing cash around like confetti, knowing if he didnt get out of the mess he found himself in, the shit was about to hit the fan. It did hit the fan and the Glazers sold a stake.

Gvardiol went for £77m (2023). VvD for £75m (2018). Fofana for £70m (2022). Hernandez for £68m (2019). De Ligt £68m (2019). Dias £65m (2020). Hakimi £60m (2021). Cancelo £60m (2019). Laporte £57m (2018). Cucurella £55m (2022). Jaquet £55m (2026).

Looking at that, £55m isn't really an odd price. Only a few of these can you say turned out to be worth it. But seeing as Konsa had years left on his contract, was in CL, was a rival to Arsenal, was in PL, PL experienced, English, home grown and an international (starting), £55m is nothing when Chelsea were spending £70m on Fofana.

Last season, Kvaratskhelia only started 18 league matches for PSG and came off the bench in 10 times. He basically plays half a season of regular league football so he can stay fresh for the CL.

As a comparison, Harry Kane started 25 league matches last season despite playing in an equally uncompetitive domestic league and being much older.

If you're not attracting any interest as a 20+ year old youth player, you're almost certainly not going to make it. Might as well collect that paycheque for as long as possible before you inevitably have to go back to the real world and find a normal job for the rest of your life.

this whole youth player reminds me of Joel Pereira
dude was a prospect youth GK back when Mourinho was still a Man United manager, he kept getting loaned out but each time he managed to impress less and less. he was loaned out to Hearts and he did become a starter but he was criticized a lot, calling him having poppadom hands
it took him turning 28yo before he became a consistent starter again for Reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Castro_Pereira

Speaking of youth players that didn't manage to leave the club, here's the other side: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c9864p3wz1jo

>Ander Herrera's most recent competitive game was in front of a raucous La Bombonera crowd playing for Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores.

>His next will be in the Spanish third division in front of roughly 6,500 fans against a regional side, Gimnastic de Tarragona.

>But Herrera says his return to Real Zaragoza on a free transfer from Boca is just as important as any move he has made in his career.

>"This is probably the last dream that I wanted to make come true," the Spaniard tells BBC Sport. "To come back home, to the place where I grew up, that gave me the opportunity to be professional - not only in football, also as a human being. And I still have the passion, I still have the desire. I still have that love for football and to do it at home is the best way to end up in my career. In Spain, we say closing the circle."

>The midfielder has returned to his boyhood club after 15 years away - including two spells at Athletic Club and stints at Manchester United, Paris St-Germain and Boca. The 37-year-old has won the Europa League, FA Cup and multiple league titles, played under Jose Mourinho, Thomas Tuchel and Marcelo Bielsa, and shared dressing rooms with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Wayne Rooney.

>However, success has been in short supply in recent years for Zaragoza, who beat Arsenal in the 1995 Cup Winners' Cup final. They were relegated from La Liga in 2012-13 - two years after Herrera had left for Bilbao - and after 13 seasons of declining finishes in the second division, fell into the notoriously difficult third tier of Spanish football.

Yeah. Shaw, Amass, Dorgu. Dalot and Mazraoui can be shoved there. Despite being shit against Hull, I liked Dorgu in that LW role. I'd wait until next summer.

Various clubs would have scouted Anderson. United werent the only ones that bailed when they felt it became too expensive.

Think about it logically. Anderson too expensive. Fernandes too expensive. Neither indicated they were particularly enthusiastic about joining the club, they were quite happy to go to the higher bidder. So what do you do, you need a defensive midfielder..... Already extensively scouted Baleba, already did the contract, shit last season, available at a discounted price. Complements other midfielders youve signed and got. It makes sense. If he recaptures anywhere near the form he showed at Brighton, he could turn out to be a very good signing. Another point worth mentioning is, its widely known, Baleba had his heart set on United. You can laugh, but its true. Its been known for a couple of years. He didnt give up on that move, him and his camp remained in contact with United, they were pushing for it. There is a lot to like about the Baleba deal
>>
Liverpool now have the most expensive striker , winger and attacking midfielder in PL history. Surely, if they don’t win the league this season, it must be considered a massive failure

Liverpool have spent half a billion on their attack. If they don't win the treble (the real one) its a massive failure
>>
Given how desperately Liverpool were trying to sign Guehi 12 months ago, how they have lost Konate on a free, and how it's clear Van Dijk will inevitably reach the end of his Liverpool career soon, you would think signing high quality defenders would be their primary objective. Instead they spunked 120m on the French Madueke.

Speaking of Jacob, looks like he's on his way: https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/matty-jacob-transfer-decision-explained-11122363

>Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed the club will look to find a move for Matty Jacob before the transfer window closes on Tuesday week.

>Jacob is unlikely to be part of City's Premier League squad and while he's nursing a hip injury picked up in pre-season, the Tigers will attempt to move him on - on loan or permanently.

...

>"We will see what happens," Jakirovic told HullLive. "I would like to find more minutes for him. I don't know if it will be on loan or permanent, it depends on the club decision, but it's better for him because we have three players in this position."

>Jacob's expected departure, provided he can prove his fitness, will not be the only exit from the MKM Stadium before next Tuesday night's 11pm deadline. David Akintola is also expected to move on, provided the Tigers bring in their two primary winger targets.

Marmoush was initially good for City for a few months, then new season started and Pep just mysteriously stopped playing him. Same story every time. Cody Gakpo expected to leave Liverpool after Bradley Barcola deal agreed

With Barcola effectively taking his place, The Athletic‘s David Ornstein is among those to report that the impending Barcola deal could allow him to leave.

Reports in the Netherlands indicate that Gakpo has already provisionally agreed terms on a contract with Hotspur side, while it would be no surprise if a switch to Man City also appeals.

It comes just a year after Gakpo signed a new five-year contract at Liverpool, but much has changed at the club since then.

There remains a sense that Gakpo does not exactly fit the profile of an Iraola winger though, and it is no surprise Liverpool are seeking two fast, direct options in the final days of the transfer window.

while two bids for Brighton‘s Yankuba Minteh were unsuccessful and talks with PSG over Ibrahima Mbaye have proved fruitless, Wednesday saw contact with Crystal Palace over a potential deal for right winger Ismaila Sarr

Liverpool could still return to the table for Minteh, despite Brighton‘s off-putting asking price of £80 million.

They're going for Ndiaye from Everton and Semenyo will probably be Haaland backup. Semenyo is gonna get spammed out hard by City this season.

Our deal for Mohamed-Ali Cho has been confirmed. Not sure what to make of him tbqh, the stats aren't exactly incredible for a forward and at £13m he's not cheap for a club our size. Even the highlights reel I saw on YouTube wasn't exactly overwhelming. Hopefully he hits the ground running and does alright for us though

Their defence is better with Lacroix their issue is GK which they've now fixed. Chelsea, City, Liverpool and United are all infinitely better this season than last. Spurs are too (despite the memes) but aren't going to challenge. But Chelsea and City will short of injuries.

Mental how Chelsea are finna win the league when they sign Scott and Martinez and nobody will notice this. They'll keep saying they'll flop. City are going to be insane with Bouaddi and Enzo and Anderson. Liverpool will batter teams with Barcola, Wirtz and Isak now.

Every other team is shit or irrelevant because they don't actually sign players to improve their team.

If he played really bad for Arsenal then he might play himself out of Barca wanting him.
