Rebellions in 40k usually happen on a single world, or within a very limited region, and are often isolated before they can spread.

In Star Wars, the rebels are far weaker than the Empire, but because hyperdrives are easy to obtain and relatively safe, they can carry out guerrilla tactics. By contrast, the Imperium in 40k doesn’t have a rebel problem as severe as the Galactic Empire did, because warp travel is terrible and can't really do it without a Navigator

so if the Imperium ever figures out a truly safe form of faster-than-light travel, it would face horrific rebel problems all across the galaxy.

No warp access at certain planets or areas of space?
>>
>>97345238
No it doesn't. You can only "hide" from Chaos in the webway or under necron pylons, the latter of which fucks most humans up.
>>
FTL?
>>
>>97347060
>I think, but can't confirm, that it was hinted at the DAOT having a way better form of FTL travel.
Sort of but not really. They had automated computer systems for calculating safe warp jumps, but they were far less reliable and quick than modern Navigators are.
>>
>>97382517
Also the fact that as long as the tithe gets paid the greater Imperium largely doesn't care as long as Chaos or xenos aren't involved.

>Enemy mini boss attacks castle PCs are in to kill king
>Uses an aoe that kills all but one guard (rolled randomly in front of everyone) because it crit missed only him
>PCs and guard attack, guard rolls two critical hits off of no stats, to the point where I just use spear damage numbers for him because why not, and gets the final blow, and another crit miss saves his life, and he kills the boss one round before another aoe was clearly going to kill the player’s warlock
>Everyone is now obsessed with “Broguard,” a non-character, and wants to see more of him even though he said no dialogue, they’re leaving the castle and he has no conceivable reason to follow them, and his only actual stat is that he has 1 HP
What do I do?
>>
Give players no XP for the encounter because it was the NPC who scored the kill.
See if they still like him then.
>>
>>97405334
If you don't want to contrive a reason for him to springboard off this act of heroics into becoming an adventurer(such as the king tasking him to join the group because he shows potential) I bet it'd still be satisfying if he just became a real NPC now. Give him some class levels for if he ever becomes relevant again, an actual personality, and have the castle celebrate his heroics alongside the PC's. At the very least give him a name so the PC's can boast the event even if they never return to the castle.
>>
just make him an NPC. He doesn't have to follow the heros around, he doesn't have to become a major player in the story. hes just an NPC that the players remember now, and who knows how the ends up becoming useful later.

the game is handing you an emergent story opportunity to make a new cool NPC ally, that you didn't have to force. It happened in the best way possible, by letting the dice decide, not GM fiat. In your shoes I'd seize this opportunity.

Jeez it all makes sense now. I really do think it was juat the use/link thing getting me. Alright thanks again. Sorry about that
>>
>>97405488
Ask away, most of us are happy to help new players
>>
>>97405488
I don't think it's explained anywhere in the deck but most Digimon can only have one card linked at a time. So when you've got a Sakuyamon and are using Options without paying the cost, you will always get the main effect but can choose not to link it (because if you do, the previously linked card will get removed). This mostly matters if you want to keep a particular link effect, like Jamming.
>>
>>97405492
Alright. I may have a few questions about the Beelzemon deck in a couple days. I don't want help building it because I want to try that myself for once but keywords and mechanics may trip me up. I was reading the cards and there's a lot of trashing going on.
>>
>>97405508
Go for it. New players asking for help make the thread better and we all want new people to play the game.

Can I run this for people who have never read the books? How should I introduce the tone of the setting to them?
4 replies and 1 image omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>97403924
I wouldn't recommend it, but just say the setting is comedy, and every part of it is harping on some tropes of classic popular fiction. There's an ironic fairy tales country, a spoopy horror country, an autistic asian country, and so on. The central city-state is struck somewhere between high fantasy and noir fiction - but it's all a bunch of jokes in the end. It's not -quite- what you would call kitchen sink, though, there has to be a point to everything. You know the character you wanted to play in another game, but you thought the joke was too embarassing? A nun with nun-chucks? She fits right in - and she is really embarassed about herself.

>>97403987
You could have raised a legitimate point, like how the anglican-atheist opinions of the author influence the world and the tone, which is easy to have a problem with, but no, you resort to buzzwords.
>>
>>97405197
>creative works are influenced by the author's viewpoints and experiences
Unbelievable insight.
>>
>>97403924
The problem with running a Discworld game is that it requires you to actually be funny. And actually being funny is hard.
>>
>>97405197
>a legitimate point, like how the anglican-atheist opinions of the author influence the world and the tone,
As lame as complaining that Narnia is influenced by the Christian views of C. S. Lewis
>>
>>97405275
On the other hand, you only need to be funny for your friends, which lowers the bar quite a lot.

I haven't found a group to try this idea with yet but I thought it'd be neat to do a kind of Vietnam War dungeon crawl in a VC tunnel complex using The Fall of Delta Green. It'd start out as a normal tunnel rats clearance and get stranger and more cthulu-horrifying the deeper the tunnel rats got into the tunnel

Honestly, it's the fault of naming the whole gameline after Exalts. Now there's no real way to sell any splat without it being some kind of Exalt, thus continuously diminishing the wonder and uniqueness of Exaltation.

It's kinda like Cultivationslop where it's said that every major stage above Mortal is "one-in-ten-thousand", but that never matters because every named character needs to be of that rare quality or they're irrelevant background chaff.

Is your experience with TTRPGs more broad, or deep? Have you played a variety of systems, or mostly focused on a single one? I'm interested in what modern /tg/ looks like in this regard. What year did you first play a TTRPG? For the purposes of this thread, we're not counting solo RPGs or one/two page games.

In no particular order, list which TTRPGs you have played at least one campaign in, indicating editions if you think it matters. If you GM'd that system, put an asterisk next to it.

Definitely broad. I've played 3.5, 5e, Call of Cthulhu (5e, 7e, and the d20 version) Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, Delta Green, shadow of the demon lord, punkapocalyptic, zweihander, WHFRP 4e, Blades in the Dark, Scum and Villainy, Edge of the Empire, Feng Shui 2, SWADE (both vanilla, and Deadlands), Cyberpunk Red, Shadowrun Anarchy, Mothership, Spooktacular, Unknown Armies 2e, Traveller and a few Fate varieties.

Most of this has been one offs or campaigns that only got a session or two before they died, but there have been a couple of longer campaigns in there.

I wouldn't say that my experience was particularly broad or deep, but i was definitely captivated by it early on

>What year did you first play a TTRPG?
I don't remember specifically but the first close approximation in playing with a ttrpg was with HeroQuest in 1994-5? (i was 8-9), at my friend house, i got the real thing in 1996? when my father gifted me the Dragon's Den becmi boxed set (picrel), but to be fair i didn't understand much of it. It was only in 1998-9 that i finally got to play at a real table in my town's lgs with a MERP group.

Three months until Battle Spirits' reboot/new format. Curious to see how it goes since it seems like they are massively simplifying the game but simultaneously supporting the old game/format.
>>
>>97373989
As long as that hero hasn't hit Living Legend, which would exclude it from Classic Constructed (CC), then yes, you can play that hero in other formats, as long as it has an adult version

>>97404979
JP-only, I assume?
>>
>>97405045
Yeah, after dying twice in the west I doubt it's coming here again. Especially considering it's not super hot in JP anymore.

TL;DR
>New format/reboot (Standard) which aims to simplify the game
>All spirits now only have two levels (for now at least)
>Second main phase after battle phase and some new mulligan rules
>Increased importance of the soul core for new card types
>Standard will be the main focus for releases (a set in April and 6 new starter decks to start) but Eternal (following the old design philosophy and have all cards playable) will get two sets a year
>Card frame and look redesign (supposed to be coming this month)

Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?

Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. But feel free to talk about any game you've had experience with.

How do you normally run downtime? Isn't there an inherent element of "everyone takes a longer turn outlining what they do with the gm", when everyone's split up like that?
>>
>>97402064
Are you stupid or something? What the fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>97399178
Doesn't sound any more boring than "let's listen to the party face and GM make voices at each other", except at least with Shadowrun or Cyberpunk hacking, a game is being played.
Yet sitting and listening to people making voices at each other is more acceptable to more people here than engaging with gameplay mechanics.

Curious, isn't it?
>>
>>97402073
