Vista edition

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

Magic. Walter Williams in Hardwired had a decently grounded take on how his panzers operated as low altitude VTOLs with the obvious drawbacks of those types of vehicles, e.g. huge signatures, small size, terrain limitations, etc. Mike mindlessly copied them and removed all of the limitations. The only explanation left for 2077 vehicles, especially the large ones, is anti-gravity.
>>
>>97243120
There is no planet where David picks a fight with Smasher man-a-mano and walks away. An experimental combat conversion barely put him on the level. To anyone who isn't on the top 10 list of the most violent and skilled Solos alive, dealing with him is a team effort and to those who are on the list, they wouldn't be stupid enough to let it be a fair fight either.

He is an apex predator in the most literal sense of the word, not that there aren't bigger or more dangerous things that could show up, but that there is no natural rung above him on the flood chain. There are others like him and they should be treated with the same respect in any plan that could ever possibly see them as a factor.

I'll allow 2077 being inadmissible on account of the tautological nature of 'main character' and 'final boss' in a videogame; it's still one of our best frames of reference as to what is involved in going 9 rounds with the champ: That is to say it's difficult for anyone even at the peak of their game.

He's not Cain, he doesn't guarantee a loss, but you would have to be stupid to choose to pick a straight fight unless you were forced to. I am strongly inclined to believe that Blackhand did not jump off of a helicopter on to Arasaka tower, take off his shirt and say "LETS DO THIS TINMAN", if only because we know that's almost exactly what Silverhand did and we know what it got him.
>>
>>97243184
>dealing with him is a team effort
didnt Lucy, an trained arasaka runner, also touch Smasher? I assume that's what anon means by 'could have' but the show made them fight the fbc one by one for ease of storytelling instead of the crew ganging him up
>>
>>97243228
Frankly a united front wasn't going to really help; David and company, fresh and ready at peak performance could probably deal with Smasher in the sense of being able to inflict significant damage, survive and retreat; but taking him when they're hurt and tired on his home turf takes blood they frankly don't have. Most crews are in the same boat whether it's Smasher or Blackhand or Shaitan or any other number of old hands; you need to be bringing your best to meet them on an average day; or ensure their day has been a whole hell of a lot worse than average.

The only way Smasher is substantially different than any other example of high powered players is that his MO is that of a terrorist attack, shock and awe, incredible singular violence against those unequipped to handle it. His one-man band routine indeed relies on the fact he's not deployed for fair fights, but it will be no consolation if you have to bury all your friends, skip town and call yourself lucky.

Regarding Lucy, she did and she got a digital backhand for her trouble. She'd probably be a huge part of any combined plan and in any fight long enough to drag out she could do some serious work on him, but individually she's just too fragile.

Put differently, one to one, you need armor and firepower equal to or exceeding a military FBC to stop Smasher from doing what he does best: grinding meat. You need to have something to stop the knife from cutting or he will pass right through.

Harrier Jet style engines. That's what is directly quoted in 2020. While they do actually have the power to lift something like an AV it is a tricky proposition to keep it stable at speed when flying a minivan as opposed to a sleek jet.

Shit I forgot Large gives -4 to hide so hide here is actually +0. Also, a Worg is actually Long not Tall so space/reach would be 10/5 not 10/10.

Also just further food for though, there is a chart for typical speeds by size. If you assume that a large worg is also still in the "Fast" category you could easily justify the 60ft speed.

Guys, I want to talk about HELLPIERCERS. I bought this game a bit ago because I thought it looked cool, and I've read it, and I don't know enough people weird enough to play it with me, and I can't stop thinking about it, and I just have to talk about it with someone.

>First up: what the fuck is Hellpiercers? And why do you spell it in all-caps? Do you have autism?
HELLPIERCERS is a tactical tabletop RPG developed by SandyPug Games alongside a few people who did some dev work on some of the Lancer supplements. It casts the PCs as gnostic demigod heroes and veterans of the War in Heaven, who aided the forces of humanity in regaining their stolen gnosis and slaying the Demiurge, his Archons, and angelic generals. Having conquered Heaven and liberated the mortal plane from the tyranny of false divinity, they now cast their eyes downward, into Hell, where countless human souls remain enslaved by the demon lords below. Hellpiercers, armed with their god-slaying weapons, clad in armor forged from the corpses of angels, lead a war of liberation against the forces of Hell, to free the enslaved souls of every human who has ever lived.

I spell it in all-caps because it's title is rendered in all-caps. I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic, but I've never been tested, so who even fucking knows?

>Promethean-grade Hylic Rejection Field
Mm. I think I have determined why the game gets such a poor reception on this site...

So the tactical combat phase reminds me a lot of ICON and Gubat Banwa, less so Lancer and 4e, but I think I get how this is meant to work. And then the strategic phase seems to include the players (collectively?) spending strategic resources, unlocking the tech tree, and maybe doing stuff like you'd find in Armour Astir's "Conflict Turn" to advance the course of the war, is that right?
Would that make the recon phase analogous to Lancer's "Downtime Actions," a mix of RP scenes and building up some benefits to use in the next fight?
>>
>>97242444
It is certainly a wordy game. I will be the first to admit that it frontloads a lot with a lot of in-universe jargon and buries the lede in terms of what the actual structure of play on the campaign level looks like.

ICON and Gubat Banwa are better points of comparison, yes. Yeah, STRATCOM is spent with the players and the GM taking a couple of turns (as many as is necessary between tactical combat sorties based on strategic map movement and other factors) moving about the map, encountering shit on the overworld, spending resources, constructing buildings, performing rituals and other actions that affect the pace and the standing of the ongoing conflict. And RECON is, in fact, the unstructured, "narrative layer" play, mostly for exploring Dis, pursuing personal objectives, and finding cool shit in the Chambers, Vaults and Caverns under the city. It's kept deliberately loose, and most of the points of interaction relate to the tags you assign to characters and gear during chargen. Like, with Lancer's pilot-scale gameplay, it's probably going to be the most controversial part of gameplay for players who don't jive with something like Blades in the Dark.

Also, notable is that you never roll to attack during TACCOM. The forces of Hell are overwhelming. Everything around you wants to kill you. The air you breathe? The microbes in it want to perforate your lungs. The ground beneath your feet? Would love to open up and swallow you whole. You can't swing a stick without hitting something that wants you dead, so why bother? Damage is still randomized, and enemies don't roll to attack either, so careful positioning and risk management matter even more than in Lancer and ICON.

Why the hell is Gnosticism so popular?
>>
>>97242679
Because it's meaningless. It's a word to prove that you're not like the other girls (male).
>>
>>97242679
Gnosticism posits that the secret truth of the universe is that we are trapped in an illusion/simulation/prison, and the deity responsible for this is evil. So by rejecting this twisted reality and fighting against it, you are a heroic rebel. It lets you be iconoclastic, rebellious, but also be the good guy because you're aligned with a greater cosmic good that exists beyond the demiurge. You get to have a punch-up with god, but like, without having to go full fedora about it.
Which does kind of boil down to what >>97242687 says, I admit

I was basically just helping my friend play an NPC that would betray the party and be a more interactive boss fight.

The wizard was technically a half elvish female, but the brain slug never cared about such trivialities, part of the fun about being a parasite was being weird and off putting to see if anyone caught on.

Only time I even bothered with a female and I technically was playing something else entirely.

It was actually Sicily. Here's a excerpt from Ernst Kantorowicz's Frederick II, which I've read recently.

"For decades past, nay, longer, everything Sicilian had worn a halo of romance in German eyes, and his German contemporaries cherished a vision of a fairy prince living in distant Sicily. Since the wanderings of the old Germanic peoples Sicily had exercised on the imaginations of men a peculiar fascination. The further the Northern invaders penetrated south into regions of ever-increasing wealth and luxuriance the nearer they seem to approach the Garden of Eden: a dream-fulfillment of an Earthly Paradise."
