Well its April 1st again. I return first of all to remember one of /tg/'s finest works: Dungeons the Dragoning 40,000 7th edition. Last year I gave the game a revision, stapling both books together so it could rival a phonebook. This year I have more DtD news: 8th edition is on the way. If you want to try out 7th edition before then though the book is in the same spot as always: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/2/folders/1HTYsfwiIWlGg4UZb5Bi32PYgTxKHUIp8There's also links to a place where you can wait for updates on a playtest. Otherwise, I'll just drop it all in the folder when its done. Happy April Fools.
Hell yeah, this game has been my autistic obsession since like 2017, happy to see it getting updates
>>97817778That's some good cover at. Might I suggest giving the lady of pain the VtM rose?
THANK YOU! I printed a copy of 6.66th edition :)
Happy April fools man.
what are the 8th edition changes like? is the melee vs caster balance fixed so that custom combat manuvers don't shit all over combat?
Alright, y'all, how'd I fuck this one up?
>>97820441Top right are the heretic legion (Death Guard) the others are all (mostly) loyalists.
>>97820468Thank you. I mistook the one I picked for the Hyrule symbol from The Legend of Zelda.
>>97820477Wait, you were serious? I thought it was a joke about the Dark Angels' shaky loyalties.
I have not gotten one single April Fools captcha all day.
>>97820491I thought I was doing pretty well to recognize that the others were WH40K as someone who's never played. Legit funny that my mistake could be taken as an esoteric lore in-joke, though.
How hard is it to create an interesting campaign without backstory? After reading the classic Sword and sorcery stories, I wanted to do something that didn't rely on backstory and was completely focused on the present. But how do you make it interesting?
>>97817742Don't make the story too flat and boring. Alternatively, know your group and run the kind of game you have in mind for people who'd be interested in it. I don't know what kind of an answer beyond "have interesting shit in it" are you looking for here. That's all there is to it. If you can't think of interesting shit that doesn't depend of backstory established beforehand, you probably shouldn't run a game without backstory. If you can think of interesting shit, why do you think your players would find it boring?
>>97817618Make interesting places for the players to explore. Make interesting characters for the players to interact with and talk to. Make interesting monsters/combat encounters to fight. Give the players room to fill out their own characters. Leave gaps and let the players fill them. the story will emerge on it's own.
>>97817742>someoneSure thing, but there was no indication of who OP is trying to interest, so I had no choice but to answer in terms of my own interests.I can get by without story in a game, I just need the game to be good. But the vocal majority of faggots on this board need daddy to tuck them in before they can throw their dice, and they generally prefer a more /qst/like "structure".So, the answer to OP's retarded question depends on who he's trying to interest.
>>97817835>in medias res is a thing you know>>97817673>Have interesting things happen and interesting characters be present. So between these two comments, there just isn't anything else that needs to be in this thread and I don't fucking understand how the OP managed to think it was a good idea to make this thread anyway. A thread died for this shit. Where are the fucking jannies?
>>97817618>After reading the classic Sword and sorcery storiesBut a good chunk of classic sword and sorcery stories are contingent on stuff that happened in the past rearing its head in the present.

>>97820532>Triggers off of fetchI know, I'm considering that in the examples I gave>evoke elementalwhich evoke elemental are you trying to abuse in legacy? fury? this seems like a storm exclusive card to me, if you're using this as a refill for a fair deck, there are way better options
>>97820508Someone will come up with something. Iggypop 2.0 or something Idk
>>97820546What's the better option? It also works off of lotus petal/mishra's bauble and treasure tokensIt looks pretty consistent to me to get 4+ draws off of this

Welcome to /2eg/, a thread dedicated to all things 2nd Edition D&D related - including settings, lore, modules, and derived systems (Alternity, Buck Rogers XXVc, For Gold and Glory, Hackmaster, Myth and Magic, and more).Since 2e draws heavily from earlier editions, older modules are welcome too. Other media derived from AD&D (such as Infinity Engine video games) also has a home here. It's what you play, not how you play it. RAW or homebrew, as long as your table is having fun, there's no wrong way to play. There's a surprisingly complete 2e fan wiki for rules stuff, it's excellent for quick reference:https://adnd2e.fandom.com/wiki/Advanced_Dungeons_%26_Dragons_2nd_Edition_Wikiad&d 2e archiveaHR0cHM6Ly93ZWIuYXJjaGl2ZS5vcmcvd2ViLzIwMjUwMjA0MTczNzUwL2h0dHBzOi8vdGhlLWV5ZS5ldS9wdWJsaWMvQm9va3MvcnBnLnJlbS51ei9EdW5nZW9ucyUyMCYlMjBEcmFnb25zL0FEJkQlMjAybmQlMjBFZGl0aW9uLw==Remember to keep things civil.Thread Question - why the 2e hate?
>>97820481Interplanar threats have always been a part of D&D, including being able to journey into the Abyss to fight Lolth in the Queen of the Demonweb Pits, and even Acererak was technically an Interplanar threat.Faggot.

>>97820510You're completely institutionalized, you didn't sit around and talk about jack or shit. You just bought the next book because you saw the number go up. You didn't realize Gary Gygax wasn't much if any involved in a game he created. You didn't realize the volume in releases spiking with 2e. You certainly never recognized the unmistakable switch to epic fantasy heroics.>>97820537You are in fact the liar. You live and breathe for the lies.>>97820540Not quite. D&D primarily concerned itself with dungeon crawling, hired henchmen, and meat grinder threats, solved with ingenuity and clever decision making. Can any of you tell me why Keep on the Borderlands is a classic.

>>97721533>Why can’t any of these people be cute?Of all the words used to describe people who are really into tabletop games, "cute" is generally not one of them. Like take the average amount of people who qualify as attractive in general, divide that by about five and then account for the fact attractive people are more likely to spend their time on sex. There's your number of cute people that are going to be playing with plastic crack. It is not high.
>>97814111Yes, you and Arch can count to potato.
>>97720923All good things eventually reach the mainstream where they begin to decay. It is the natural order of things when it comes to good media.
>>97818036I can count to potato plus infinity.
I feel like even though there is a bit of a surge in popularity for the medium, the actual art of rules writing might be slipping away. We haven't lost it yet, but there may have been some stagnation. What exactly makes a wargame/TTRPG's rules good? And what is the most "retard proof" method of slowly or even hastily (if possible) to learn to be a good writer of wargame/ttrpg rules?

>>97813712Don't put NPC heroes in your game unless the players specifically request it.
>>97810668because its genuinely funny>friend has a light based hero>everyone else at the table is obviously waiting for them to blind someone so they can yell out "you blind forevah"
>>97810668Having just finished it, it does a lot of things right, especially with how the gameplay sections can actually effect the telltale sections. Very endearing characters, good voice acting. Like if Venture Bros was less funny. Super derivative, but then so is most of the genre.

>>97796373>they didn't add alternate activation>againI think the primary reason why is because IGOUGO is primarily part of GW's Warhammer's game's identity like how paint pots are part of Citadel paint's brand identity.I don't believe alternate activation will magically fix the wargame, but it is a small improvement.

Who are the major antagonists of your setting/campaign? I’m talking BBEG types, to put it simply, and their immediate subordinates. What goes into a villain that is narratively compelling?
