[Montane Layover] {Update 1}

>The sun is soon to set so I'll recount the prior night before I head out and start investigating
>Probably be myself to start as my roommate is hogging the blankets and grumbling
>Tramping out back into the mountains is always a pleasure, even if under these circumstances something was off.
>Can't explain it, but there was something in the air as we got close, a thickness to it that almost had a taste to it. Put Mèo-Mèo went on edge. Ended up having to carry her the last leg of the journey because when she panics she turns into a baby possum and climbs onto my back. Or she insists that so she didn't have to walk.
>Regardless, we got into Lavender's territory without much issue, although we were stalked on the way in, our tailing company didn't make a move.
>HalfSeeeing Eye was pleasant as always as was Lavender in settling things down, even if their abode is...
>Also difficult to describe, something about it and the surrounding grounds, including the Caern taste 'off.' Not regular Loup country things.
>And not just because I have serious questions about their late sire's taste in architecture.
>I also feel our presence has mildly disconcerted our other hosts. Both of the Blood and those things that aren't really physical. Hopefully we can avoid spooking their ghouls.
>Still, the Earth parted for me after the tour with kind offerings and I dug out our den without issue.
>Not the most comfortable soil I'll admit but the moment I got down the furs it was nice to be back. Bottom's crumbly almo
>ioh those are human bones

> Lavender's territory
While H0T and Meo can literally hear it, I'm happy to inform the online audience that HSE has taken great offense to this description of our caern, and is currently pillaging my study for anything resembling regalia, to steal them and declare herself the chantry head or whatever the fuck. I don't have any regalia. I think she'll just end up stealing my clothes.

>I also feel our presence has mildly disconcerted our other hosts.
Jane and John Doe, which is what I'll call them until they stop being fucking hermits and start using the Internet, are very reclusive and last fifteen times we've had guests not from a small pre-determined list, like the two Nossies I mentioned a while ago, it were the uninvited sort of guests, ones who try to gut you. Jane and John will come around, give them a bit. Plus, my cat seems to like you and Meo both, and that's a ringing endorsement.

>Hopefully we can avoid spooking their ghouls.
They've seen a werewolf bite my face off, they'll be fine. Probably. Again, the cat likes you, and they trust the cat. If it helps, HSE's off-brand copy is exactly as much of a foul creature as she is, she's just also very paranoid, and the butler dude is really not much of a butler. He'll ease up once it becomes clear you aren't going to turn into a giant wolf-woman and start eating people.

>HalfSeeeing Eye was pleasant
Shockingly true.

>as always

Probably an Inquisitor, not the Catholic ones, I mean those with a capital I, they're black silhouettes who ask questions for some agenda no one knows.
What makes them "freaky", unexplainable and strange to me is not their shape or motives, but the fact that unlike most of the nonsense on this side of the Masquerade, they don't try to kill you or worse after you give them what they want. Such a bizarre, exotic behavior.

Once I could afford them, I rapidly grew fond of these kinds of dresses, because they could hide my body in a time when it wasn't considered socially acceptable, let alone beautiful, for a woman to look athletic and strong.

traditional gamers are fat retards who know nothing about aesthetics beyond choosing the colour palette for their Warhammer army.

I actually try really hard to utilize the color wheel properly while agonizing about color combinations and ideal tones. I am an average painter and I’ve found utilizing color theory can really elevate otherwise decent work.

Yeah, they’re all ideas from 2008, bud. Of course they’re cringe. Any real advice?
>>
>>97412949
>Any real advice?
Start with personality. This should be the most important thing about any character. Then imagine how they would affect/interact with the world as someone capable of being an adventurer. Then translate into mechanical concepts. Then feedback loop and iterate how those mechanical concepts affect personality and interaction.
>Personality
an awkward autist who's friendly but shy, good but cowardly
>Interacts with the world
likes to study weird things, read books, dissect dead animals, rather talk to things than people
>Mechanics
wizard necromancer
>Feedback loop
talks to his created undead, cluelessly creepy, wants to use necromancy for good but is shunned by people he protects, tragic thankless hero

You can try explaining what you want to play.
Maybe instead of simply having high perception to be racist, think about why they would be racist. Think about why a sailor and how they learned to be a Monk.
Asking questions allows you to dig deeper to answer them.
Personally, I also like to give my characters an achievable goal so they have some reason to adventure besides, "it's where the plot is".

I think this might have been the very peak of 2e Solarwank, and DB/Sidereal slander too. It retcons in so much stupid shit all on it's own.
>>
>>97413480
It also kind of shits on gods, too, making them seem less like distinct individuals with free will and more like pawns whose emotional experiences can be dictated and rewritten by decrees of the Incarnae. It also seems pretty pointless. I mean, I've no idea why whoever wrote that thought it was important that gods just inherently dislike Dragon-Blooded instead of them generslly disliking DBs because DBs frequently give them reasons to dislike them.
>>
>>97413607
>I mean, I've no idea why whoever wrote that thought it was important that gods just inherently dislike Dragon-Blooded instead of them generslly disliking DBs because DBs frequently give them reasons to dislike them.
The whole Hundred Gods Heresy thing is right there and goes completely unaddressed. Like, yeah, the Immaculate Order vilifies and roots out gods going 'rogue' and establishing their own cults wherever they find them, calling them a heresy against the natural order, and somehow this folds into yu shan's narrative as... what? It seems to actually treat the HHG as a conspiracy of rogue gods the two times in the book it's mentioned, which is absolutely missing the point.
>>
Anyone have good ideas for Merits that would compliment "Divine Heritage (Devablooded - Autocthon)" in a DB?
>>
>>97413760
First thing I'd note is that Autochthon isn't normally an option for Divine Heritage Exalted outside very special circumstances, because Primordials who give birth make behemoths, not humans. You could look at Adorjan's daughter-winds for an example of that. More plausible is one of Autochthon's Divine Ministers having a kid, which would give you a bit of an easier thematic background to work with as well since they're more specialized.

That being said, among all of the above I woud expect Artifact to feature, especially Artifact prosthetics or cybernetics, would be the obvious choice. Arete from Arms of the Chosen is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. Manse/Hearthstone would be good too. I'd normally expect some level of Influence or Backing from wherever the hell Autochthon/a divine minister appeared from, but maybe if the special circumstance that leads to this birth of an Autochthon-child was someone implanting the Eye of Autochthon into their body and then doing the sideways mambo in a race against rapid onset cyberization, you could stick them with whatever remains of their magical wish-granting ball-bearing parent's effects still remain, which might include powerful servitors or manses or even an empire, almost literally anything.

Also, any of the supernatural merits that are actually mutations could be fluffed as cybernetic enhancements, which would work.

>the next BBEG in your campaign is a coomer that goes around kidnapping and mind controlling women for his harem, and literally that’s it.

Does your party even care? Does your setting/game system even care? Assume that the BBEG is an adequate challenge and difficulty for your setting and party (whether it’s Exalted or DND or Rogue Trader or whatever, and the villain is always the right difficulty level for your party whether you’re lvl 1 or lvl 20 or a weenie or a Solar, the scale is perfect).

Basically is this guy a problem you and your crew would want to fix in whatever game you’re playing.

If he isn’t, what would it take to make him be a problem? A bigger bounty or reward? A personal friend that got turned into a harem slave?

More like 300+ posts of shrieking about a 6/10 UW set.

So context. I used to DM for my friends a while back but I've been struggling with creating a game I'm happy running for a few years now. It's not the end of the world, we do TCGs instead but part of me wants to get back into running tabletop games.
So I started DMing with DnD 5e but for my own reasons I stopped running the system. The only other system I'm really confident running is Mutants and Masterminds 3e.
Lately I've been seeing videos from some of the old school types talking about the nature of dungeons, and I've also been reading Dungeon Meshi, and I've had the itch to try making a mega dungeon for a game. Thing is, I don't wanna run 5e, I'm not confident trying to run an older version of the game, I don't have access to the books for OSR. What I do have is Mutants and Masterminds.
So my friend and I were talking about this, and he suggested exploring the idea of running a dungeon crawl in M&M. Now to me that sounds a bit absurd, they're so tonally dissonant I can't really imagine it, so I thought I'd bring it to you guys. If your GM came up to you and said "I'm running a dungeon crawl in M&M", what would your thoughts be? Does it sounds a good idea? How would you do it? What would you emphasise, what would you ignore?
Thanks in advance /tg/, I hope with your advice I can get myself out of this nogame slump I've been in

I should clarify, I don't have a good way to get a hold of physical books. I have trouble working off of pdfs, like I can give it another crack but for some reason they never stick with me properly versus when I read them off paper. Tried learning Maid and Ryuutama off pdf, just wouldn't stick. That said I can always try again
>>97408867
After having a read through some of the other comments, yeah, I'm realising I overreacted internally. I have trouble thinking outside of the box on a lot of things, I get all bullheaded and stubborn and it takes a good bit of thought to change perspective. My big problem was thinking 'this is a superhero game, won't it just break trying to shove it in this box?' when after thinking on it it's clear that I just need to change the scale of the game to match

How do players in your groups, including yourselves if you play rather than GM, react to authority figures in your games? Are they happy to play along and do what they're told, or do you find that they try to rebel against whoever's in charge of them at any opportunity?

>Traditional Games?
This is a thread about how players react to authority figures in tabletop roleplaying games, a type of traditional game.
>You first.
When STing Vampire the Masquerade for my group (last session was about a month ago, we went on hiatus for Christmas) I find that they really chafe whenever the Prince demands anything of them and they are almost more interested in dismantling the local Camarilla so that they no longer need to follow orders than they are in the jobs that the Prince gives them.
>What system?
In my case, the system is Vampire the Masquerade 20th Anniversary, but the question is system neutral.
>What setting?
In my case, the setting is the World of Darkness, but the question is setting neutral.
>Post this in a general.
This is a generic topic without any focus on any specific system or setting that has a general, therefore I do not think that there is an appropriate general for this thread.

It doesn't matter if starting a thread implies an expectation of replies. He can expect replies all he wants, his post certainly invited replies, his post was a proximal cause of replies to his post which is stating a pointless truism, but OP is still under no obligation to reply to any posts anyone makes in the thread he started any more than anyone was under an obligation to make a reply or than I am under an obligation to reply to your angry little posts.

Dependent on so many factors.

The most common link in this is determining if any of the individual characters are the rebellious sort by default. Usually, these rebellious sorts don't immediately try to get one over on the authority figure, but push the limits a little bit. If the limit-pushing happens without incident, the players usually stay cooperative. If the limit-pushing results in pushback from the authority figure, the party generally makes a collective decision on whether continued obedience to the authority figure is a good idea. If it is decided that disobedience is just and proper, they usually attempt an immediate attack on said authority figure.

I've rarely seen them attempt a longer betrayal of an authority figure than immediately attempting to kill them, and usually the would-be traitor gets distracted from his planning long enough for the authority figure to become irrelevant to them without any input on their part.
>>
>>97411073
>deflecting again
Your concession is accepted.
>>
>>97394717
As a player I despise Omnipotent OP GMPCS and I actively try to kill them. As a forever GM I never add auch filth to my games. Authority figures as in "Local Lord's" and other Law & Order types are played realistically and non intrusively. So my players always RP as if actually their characters live in the world. I do enjoy raging a long with an NPC of my own in the party from time to time. In oDnD a part is usually around 20+ characters, each player controlling a main character and a few hired hands.

Never railroad the game or expect player mutany.

Wowee, fun. Tabletop has enough trouble simulating gonzo sci fi space combat without trying to go granular.

It is a common misconception that a laser beam is a perfectly straight "pencil" of light. Even in the absolute vacuum of space, a laser beam will eventually spread out and lose its intensity.

This happens not because of the medium it travels through, but because of the fundamental physics of light itself.

The primary reason a laser diverges is diffraction. Light behaves like a wave. When a wave passes through an opening (like the output aperture of a laser), it naturally bends and spreads outward.

Even if you could create a "perfect" laser with all photons moving in the same direction, the moment they exit the device, they "feel" the edge of the exit hole. This causes the wave-fronts to begin curving, turning a parallel beam into a cone.

At a quantum level, the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle forbids a perfectly parallel beam. To make a beam stay perfectly narrow, you would need to know the exact position (x) of the photons (the width of the beam) and their exact transverse momentum (p) (the direction they are moving)

Physics states that the more you "squeeze" a beam to make it narrow, the less certain you are of the photons' side-to-side momentum. This uncertainty manifests as a "kick" that makes the photons fly off at slight angles, causing the beam to spread.

Atomic Rockets is your friend.

Let's try it again edition

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,

If I posted a zombie game I wrote, would anyone even bother reading the ~30ish pages of rules in order to give me feedback?
>>
>>97412637
I'm interested, but 30 pages of rules is quite substantial
>>
>>97412637
Sure, but don't forget there's a Amateur Game Design and Homebrew Thread >>97283892, you might get more hits there.

I've formatted the documented so that the rules are presented with bullet points instead of traditional paragraphs. I think its a bit more readable and easier to skim for specific rulings, but it also takes up a lot of space, so the rules are probably even shorter than 30 pages. the document is 50ish pages total but a lot of that is weapons, zombie types, etc.

Anyways I'll do a bit more editing and formatting and just throw it out here at some point.

As a Heroscape player, not only does the terrain matter, I have to build it every match. This however, isn't a problem, because a good Heroscape player knows that map building is part of the game and should enjoy it as much as the rest!

Also, question for anons in thread. Do anyone have help me find some minis? You guys post cool ones all the time so I'm hoping you could all source me some cool ones. In particular, I'm looking for floating Swords, Guns, Shields, and Chains, if they're all one style, even better.
