You don't paint, Scott.
>>
I keep a handful of unpainted minis to use for petrified people.
>>
After having a shitshow with someone bringing wooden blocks as minis to a campaign I’ve become a “unless at least 90% painted I won’t play with you” guy
>>
>>92573503
That's not a proxy army, anon, you picked a fight in a sawmill.
>>
>>92573503
Knew a guy that used paper sheets with a grid drawn on them to play WFB. When a "model" died he just crossed a square on the sheet.
Somehow this fucking guy made it to a tournament.
>>
>>92573751
While you were busy painting your toys he was mastering the art of war.

For me, it depends on the game. The actual gameplay of something like 40k is garbage, it's just a vehicle for the spectacle of seeing two forces of future space dudes clash on the battlefield - if someone's ruining that spectacle by putting grey plastic on the table, the whole exercise is pointless.
>>
>yo dudes heres my speed paint termagant guide
>spends 40 minute edge highlighting every model

mini painting youtubers are completely detached from reality and i hate them all
>>
>>92573751

Agreed, people watching these "aspirational pro painters" or even "24 hour challenge clickbait" wankers are not helping themselves. They're not learning.

I am a huge fan of Sonic Sledgehammer though. There's a guy who shows you how to paint 10 miniatures in a couple of evenings. It's all about using the best paints for the job from different ranges and having a really clear plan of action.

>>
>>92578857

Hmmmmm. Looks like shit to me
>>
>>92569053
> YouTube channel focused on painting
> been playing GW games since he was a kid
> somehow only finished a 2k (minimum game size for actual AoS) army this year
Miniac is a fucking loser.
>>
>>92578886
>he thinks that's grey plastic and not the color of the wheel
What a terrible way to find out you have vision issues. You have my condolences anon.
>>
>>92578777
But 40k has the greatest game rules of any game ever. Haven't you read warcom?
>>
>spray model in main color
>paint details in one flat color each
>ink wash it all
>contrast flesh
job done
>>
>>92578925
tbqh having neutral grey uderside tires on heavily weathered models is a pretty bad choice, just a black primer would work better
>>
>>92578951
Yeah, at this point, speedpainting/army painting is basically 'solved' desu
>>
>>92578951
don't forget the dry brush
takes models for ugly as sin to half decent instantly its crazy
>>
>>92578973
Far from it. That is only one way to do it.
>>
>>92578973
>>92578951
You can also basecoat, wash and sponge highlight. Sponges are much faster than highlighting.

Nothing wrong with an army that looks like this anon.

Basing and varnishing can really sell simple, neat paintjobs too.
>>
>>92579209
Nobody will laugh at a simple paintjob. It's the unpainted minis that are the enemy.
>>
>>92579209
Most paint focused guys are pretty normal in my experience. It's the grey tide and the craft store blob paintjob dudes who're always autistic and starting fights over their triggers. It's the guy pouring super glue all over the table and putting his guns on upside down, freaking out over someone's mixed space marine armor.
>>
>>92579209
kick them in the nuts
inb4 violence is not an answer, wrong, it is always the best answer
>>
>>92578818
Miniac doesn’t actually play that much and while painting that tiny Soulblight army he burned himself out hard and it took him 2 (?) years to complete. I began enjoying painting more when I realized youtubers are all miserable and their advice should always be ignored
>>
>>92579209
slap his girl's ass
>>
>>92579468
>youtubers are all miserable

I'd love to give it a go but this seems so true. The ones chasing the algorithm anyway.

I have a lot of time for people just kind of vlogging their own hobby.

He hates and was burnt out on warhams but recently found love in ASoIaF
>>
>>92579468
>it took him 2 (?) years to complete
Isn't that long enough for the entire army to be rotated out by GW or whatever?
>>
>>92579209
As an autist who spends 10+ hours painting every single mini, I'm just happy when people aren't fielding grey tides. Also quantity has its own quality to it when it comes to painted armies, as seen in >>92579330 which is not the fanciest of paint jobs but looks great in a full squad.
>>
>>92580617
By design, probably. Buy a new army now, you wha... valued customer :^)
>>
Why I dont paint
-Spray priming is impossible where I live
-I suck at painting
-I hate doing bases
I do love this little fellas tho
>>
>>92569053
Can’t have to buy more minis.
>>
Imagine playing with an unpainted model. Imagine playing against someone who plays with unpainted models. Yikes
>>
>>92579209
Laugh at his 90% unpainted army.
>>
>>92578777
I'm sorry to tell you anon, but lot's of people play 40k for the game.
>>
>>92578925
I learned I was color blind after describing my paint scheme which apparently did not match up with what I had painted.
>>
>>92584936
Yikes
>>
>>92578894
His focus is money. He has stated such. He probably did 3 color minimum thing and just now started actually painting.
He's a loser, because he's a shill and a stereotypical "influencer". Playing 40k doesn't automatically make you a painter.
>>
>>92578777
interesting point.

I personally never played with unpainted miniatures, even before I stopped hating having to paint. I just found it to be such a huge lack of respect for my opponent.

once I started actually painting with a minimum of decent results I started looking for games to use more and more of my miniatures.

this has led me away from GW and towards other RnF games.

it has also make me realize that I wish I had started 15mm rather than 28mm but that's neither here nor there

Use brush on primer.

Buy ready made bases or sprinkle some ready made basing material on.

Whats up with that guy? Will he come out eventually and leave his wife? The voice, the piercings, the way he crosses his legs..

And is he sick or something? He sits like he broke is back or something

Looks muddy and ugly imo. Like a child's best effort.
>>

You're not going to believe me, but sometimes faggy guys marry women and have sex with them on purpose. Usually they're bisexual and don't bother partnering men, but sometimes they're genuinely as het as your dad ever was.
>>
>>92584936
Most horrifying thing I've read all day.
>>
>>92579209
I’m that autist but I don’t laugh at you (out loud). I spend about 6 hours on each model and I love facing people like you because your speed paint makes mine look better. I regularly table mog people at my store.

>>
>>92580709
Even GW back in the daya nd U believe still paints a large number of "background" minis for their displays at just a smidge above tabletop quality. Many YouTubers sekdom paint the whole model and yes their advice is retarded

Did he ever finish painting that Drazhar he’s been working on for literal years?
>>
>>92589147
No, he's left it unfinished. He's shown in one of his latest videos iirc
>>
>>92569053

No, I will not paint miniatures. They are game pieces, it doesn't matter what they look like. Frankly assembling them is already an unreasonable requirement.
>>
>>92589330
Then play boardgames instead.
>>
>>92586033
His wife looks like an ugly fat kike
>>
I've painted nearly 200 miniatures so far this year.
I am now 3/4 through my pile of shame.
I'm gonna be the first wargamer in history to finish all of his miniatures before buying new ones.

or

>chip with rhinox hide brown for weathering
>chip around these chips with the highlight colour for an effect

with a small piece of sponge on the end of a brush.
>>
>>92590428
I suppose that works if you're after that worn-down look.
>>
>>92569053
Ben, you should post fewer pictures of little children you have saved on your computer.
>>
>>92579209
Never seen this happen and I actually go to my local table top club/stores on average once a week for the past 5 years. I feel like this is more like what people imagine will happen whenever they've not actually done it.
>>
>>92573503
That's just wood elves.
>>
>>92584182
the real reason you dont is because you're a fat lazy gamer that can't do anything well except goon and game.
>>
>>92589330
>when you're a contrarian nerd and simultaneously too stupid to paint or just play a normal grindy spike game like MTG
>>
>>92584182
I've been using a brush primer for three years with no issue
>>
>>92589330
I think you've chosen the wrong hobby. Why would you continue to play a game that universally requires you to paint and assemble your figures if you don't want to do either of those things? Reconsider your life choices.
>>
>>92578777
10th has been reasonably fun for me hampered by GW being completely unable to write a decent codex. The importance placed on objectives and random secondary objectives is pretty cool and doesn't feel kill points or kill points with extra steps like a lot of other games I've played do. But on the other hand GW will make a unit that sees gets to see through a single window and blow several unit off the board without rolling dice that gets to move back into cover after you move on your turn.
>>
I don't remember if it was this guy or not, but there was some notable minipainting youtuber who put out a video in which he said Age of Sigmar listbuilding was too complicated and I was just utterly baffled that anyone could hold that opinion.
>>
>>92569053
All my minis are painted, if you want me to do more then buy me more minis. Grey Knights terminators pls.
>>
>>92596631
Lots of people have now. The issue is always about the retarded number of extra rules books involved now, not the list building itself.
>>
>>92573503
That dude sounds epic. How much more money and time had you wasted on your army compared to his?
>>
>>92597647
As someone who plays Age of Sigmar the extra rule books you need are
>the core rules/a generals handbook which has the core rules and some seasonal rules
>your army tome
List building in AoS is piss easy. I don’t think I’ve ever once needed something more than that to build an army and play a full game. More realistically if you don’t want to spend a dime you need
>the Age of Sigmar app
>Wahapedia tab open to your army’s page
>>
>>92599540
if your not going to try, why even do it? save all your time and stay home
>>
>>92578894
>AoS
>Took forever to get the motivation to actually play it.
I don't know, anon. That checks out.
>>
A guy at my local club has like 12 armies for several games and none of them are painted. What makes someone do this?
>>
>>92569053
Man, I'm so bad at it, and so slow. I'm lucky to get one done every three days.
>>
>>92608592
Terminal consumer. I think it's impossible to have a group of warhammer fans without at least a handfull of dudes who attach any sense of satisfaction and pleasure in life solely to purchasing more official GW miniatures.
>>
>>92607155
> tries to make an 'army in one weekend' video
> fails
> mopes around for a fucking year
> finally finishes
It's his job to paint minis. Yet he can't complete an army. He is just a basic bitch
>>
>>92599540
It's pathetic you think the money investment in a single army is a lot or that you should be proud of 'saving the money and time.'
Why be proud of being a cheap, lazy loser? Why be proud of embarrassing yourself in public like that
>>
This guy is kind of irritating but I see no reason to actively dislike him beyond that. Honestly who gives a shit, it's not like he's doing any harm
>>
>>92599540
You'll save even more money by not spending the gas to go to the game.
