Emerald. Always Emerald.
>>
Must have been a quiet weekend for Lorcana. Did anyone get up to anything fun?
I played a few casual matches at my LCS, but most of them were against some guy who had 4 sad beasts, 4 Robin Hood Champion of Sherwood, 4 A whole new worlds, etc. In other words, a deck worth several hundreds of dollars, and he knew what he was doing with it., so obviously I lost almost every game. I'm not sore about it, the guy was in a completely different league, and I like to think that my decks were pretty decent and that I put up an admirable fight, but yeah, the deck was quite literally stacked against me. Still ,I don't get enough opportunities to play the game or test my decks, so I was just happy to be playing.

Anyone else get to play any interesting matches recently?
>>
>>92570763
Any colors other than Ruby and Amethyst.
>>
>>92578160
Instead of Ruby getting something 'better', I just want them to get something different, if that makes any sense. I find myself kind of disinterested in playing most of Ruby's strategies, same with Steel. So, I don't necessarily want either to get 'stronger', but I do want both to get more diverse strategies so I can find one more to my liking.

I played in three of the Set Championships. First one I won outright, second one I placed third (so still got another Enchanted Stitch), third I did pretty miserable due to some bad deck matchups and being paired against some extremely good players.

Nice, though Steel has so much item removal that I can't see it lasting for long.

probably not at liberty to hypothetically deep dive (only been a lurker for the past week or so, got back into TCGs with DBS Fusion World, looking into a couple others including Lorcana), though if I had to gather my limited knowledge so far, i'd probably say I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't at least somewhat item-reliant (ie: buff if an item is attached, best way I could translate Toad's fad obsessions), that and/or having some sort of ramp involved (Toad being rich beyond belief) so Sapphire (I believe that's where ramp is regularly found in this game, not gonna assume Emerald since FW's Green is basically our ramp/direct removal color)
>>
>>92584454
Steel does have answers, but I've seen a fair number of steel song decks that don't run just because it's not as necessary right now. So even if it's just forcing them to run specific answers that's a good thing.
>>
>>92584689
Yeah, you're not wrong. Always happy for more Emerald card draw, too.

Has there ever been any videos of the art for Lorcana being drawn? After doing a ton of AI art I'm, like, 85% sure the art for these is done by ai and fixed by a traditional artist... not that I've got any issue with it, but the compositions and the way the art is rendered out looks just like pics I can gen. This one in particular stuck out as the lamp is absolutely bizarre.

I think the ship on this one also looks generated.
>>
>>92586823
As an AI user myself, I can't disagree with you on the composition bit. Your comment about the lamp made me curious, though, so I fired up D+ to look at that scene. In the movie, the lamp that Bernard carries is extremely simplistic, almost laughably so (but understandable, since it is drawn animation, after all), so I can't help but think that the artist might have taken liberties with it. The art on the card looks to me like they might have envisioned the lamp as a woven basket that a firefly would rest in, the sort of 'technology' that would be typical (and whimsical) for a disney mouse. But, then again, it could simply be a random invention of AI... it's getting harder and harder to tell.
>>92586900

Agree with you on that point, though.
>>
>>92586823

Are you really so dense as to miss that many cards feature their color themes in the art? You talk about AI bullshit, but haven't recognized this trend that's existed since the beginning?

>>92591156
This is very good, can be used defensively or on your guys for value.
>>
>>92588401
Yeah, I think the artist may have cleaned up the lamp a bit, but it still looks pretty out there from a design standpoint. The more I look at the art, the more I am all but certain they used ai on all of them outside of the original artist cards. I don't really mind it desu, but I imagine the backlash if it ever comes out (considering Disney's audience they've courted) will be Biblical.

At this point I'm about 85% sure ai is used in the creation of these cards with an artist just redrawing or painting over the blatant mistakes.
>>
>>92592956
But let's be real here... it's not Disney's artists doing this, it would be Ravensburger's. If there was some backlash, Disney would likely throw them under the bus to save face.
>>
>>92593067
Man, they sure hit gold with this one. They've successfully capitalized on people's nostalgia, did it cheaply, and have a scapegoat if it's ever discovered that ai was used. They've had a lot of mishaps lately, but the stars really aligned for the card game.
>>
>>92593102
Well, either way, I like this game, and I'd rather not cause it any controversy, so I wouldn't go spreading your theory, correct or not. I can't stop you, of course, but that's just my 2 cents.

Ahem.
Fuck your lore aggro deck.
That is all.
>>
>>92588712
Not that anon but I can explain. So here is a Kida card that is part of amber inkwell.
>>
>>92595360
Now here is what that art is referencing. If the colors stayed with the original coloration of the work, she would be a sapphire card. This can be seen among other cards where they use an emphasis on the inkwell to make it blend in with the inkwell color.
>>
>>92595317
I'm putting that in my aggro deck.
>>
>>92595360
>>92595366
Ok, I see what he was trying to say, but I still fail to see what it had to do with the conversation. No one remarked on the color of anything. We just thought the lamp and the pirate ship looked like they could be AI. It feels like that anon took a flying leap in logic, possibly caused by a knee-jerk reaction.
>>
>>92593332
Oh nah, I just think it would be an interesting deep dive, but of course people would take it too far. Still, I can't help but be genuinely curious. Even though I liked some of the cards, something about the general art was bothering me and I just couldn't put my finger on it.
>>92595132
I figured it was getting a bit better with the ai portrait threads and such, but npc's gotta hate what they are programmed to.
>>92595200
>that ai is absolutely not recreating
You'd be surprised. A lot of the ai models haven't caught up with the furry ones but you could easily recreate the art shown in the general cards using it. A big thing that I'm seeing is that some of the poses are kind of bizarre, there isn't a lot of "motion" happening in most of the cards (that's still an issue even some of the best models have), and the perspective and composition on most of the cards feels very "samey" as well as the general style and rendering of form. Mix that with some of the weird issues in some of the cards that have perspective (such as that tinkerbell one I posted earlier involving the ship, theres also an ariel card with a pretty funky hand) and what I'm thinking they are doing is.
>trained their own model or Lora
>use it to gen art/concepts
>do a light paint over of the art fixing the glaring issues
>call it a day

Which is what I figured would eventually happen to commercial art.
>>
>>92595735
tl;dr

Not in this thread to argue about AI shit or not.
>>
>>92595751
And yet you still felt the need to post.

Finally, a green location that I like!
>>
finally had the chance to play this for the first time
Had tons of fun with a starter deck

What should I focus on to build a deck? Songs?
>>
>>92597051
Hard to say unless you tell us which starter you got (or which colors you WANT to play). Some color combos do songs better, for example, while others do actions or items or certain character types better.
>>
>>92597194
green and gray. I bought some cards but most of them work to draw cards

Whats yellow focus?
>>
>>92597408
Yellow loves healing, songs, and playing lots of small characters. Cards like Rock Star Stitch and The Pridelands help in that area. Yellow has lots of good tribes, like puppies, dwarves, and princesses. Expect your characters to come and go quickly, which makes Chernabog great for recycling the dead and bolstering their numbers with something big. Bare Necessities is a great song to help you ruin your opponent's plans. Captain Piglet works great to generate lore quickly, and cards like 99 Puppies and Lucky can surprise your opponent with a sudden burst of lore.
>>
I just got started and I assume the starter precons are dogshit, but would it be possible to buy a precon and upgrade it into a moderately competitive deck?
>>
>>92597577
Ehh, not THAT dogshit. They often have some useful core cards, depending on what you're going for. But yeah, you'll have to add a bunch of cards to them to be somewhat competitive. So far, the starter I've found most useful was the 101 Dalmatians one from Inklands.
>>
>>92597730
>101 Dalmatians one from Inklands
why?

>>92597981

>>
>>92598112
I'll have to get back to you on that since I don't have it handy. Won't have it on me until Thursday night, I think.
>>
how popular is the game rn? Is it worth to invest some money on it?
>>
>>92598112
>>92598183
It's not mind-blowing or anything. It's mostly just a lot of 99 Puppies, Lucky, Pongo, Captain Piglet, Rockstar Stitch, PrideLands, The Queen's Castle, The Grand Duke, Purple Kuzco, Bodyguard Simba, and a bunch of other princes/princesses with a cost of 1 or 2, plus 2 Chernabogs and some Magic Carpets. I also have the Sorcerer's Tower and some brooms, but I found that they weren't getting used much, so they'll probably be phased out in favor of more cheap royalty. That's most of what I remember off the top of my head, anyway.
>>
>>92598195
It's pretty popular. At all of my local shops it's pulling at least the same number of weekly players as Magic, if not more in some cases. And a good number of the players are former Magic players.

New shift mechanic, and a really good card.
>>
>>92600290
Oh shit, I think I love this card already!
>>
>>92595317
I think this isn't very good. It looks good, but it takes at least two turns, two cards, and 5 mana to be turned on, and the requirement of an exerted character means any opponent who is impacted by the debuff will likely be able to remove the char, so end of the day, it maxes out as a 0/7 Bodyguard that gives opposing characters "reckless".
>>
>>92600290
>green
Is not the only diablo available purple?
>>
>>92600496
Currently yes, but it's also not the first time we've seen shift characters without a matching shift in their color.

Also their is Morph if you really want.
>>
>>92598202
That's almost exactly where my Amber/Steel deck started. Lucky, Pongo, and Perdita just aren't as good as AWNW or Rockstar so I've slowly removed all of them from my deck, and never got 99 puppies to work (I think Lucky is better but still not good enough).

I've ended up on Pridelands Stitch supported by Fightin' Robin Hood and AWNW, after over 200 games in various configurations of it on Pixelborn.
>>
>>92600290
Now that's an interesting card. Good but not too pushed (inkable or /3 would have been too good I think), new twist on current mechanics, upside that opponent can interact with.

I have to say, Ravensburger has impressed me post-set 1.
>>
>>92600442
Well, don't forget, green likes to actively encourage opponents to attack their characters, as they often include punishments for doing so. This location fits with that strategy very well!
>>
Is yellow+blue a good combo? I want to spam songs and get lore quick
>>
>>92601079
Not really, since your songs are going to be mediocre and you're certainly not getting lore quick.

>>92601079
You could try using the Grand Pabby and that one version of Belle that has 5 lore when you have 10 ink. Use ramp songs and grab a few sturdy bodyguards to heal. It might not be ideal or meta, but it cod be fun to try.
>>
>>92601749
>attack for every card on hand
>when a lot of mets does nothing but make you draw card
>just 3 ink
This shit is actually broken rn
>>
>>92602164
Broken in an interesting way, though. It seems to punish players with a healthy draw economy while going easier on players who neglect their draw economy. That's kind of brilliant.
>>
>>92600290
Bro that is lowkey disgusting as a card and opens up a lot of questions.

Like that shift is really dangerous territory to be playing with. As this now opens up the possibility of, you could discard other cards for example. Like we might see a card with discard an item or discard a character. The end of such design, the real belly of the volcano if you will, is always going to be "Shift: Lose [number] lore" or "Shift: An opponent gets [number] lore".

Even if you never run morph or the original diablo with it, a 3 mana 1 lore evasive quester that can punish your opponents for drawing is extremely strong. As even if your opponent is top decking and draws only 1 card for the turn as part of their turn, that is still a trigger for Diablo and therefore you draw 1 card at minimum. If your opponent then plays AWNW? That can potentially let you draw through 15 cards in a turn.

It really feels like Disney is not fully on board heavily promoting this game. The game seems to be selling well despite the lack of marketing and advertising.
>>
>>92633947
Maybe promotion just wasn't a big part of Disney's licensing deal with Ravensburger? Depending on how the deal was set up, it might not be in Disney's best interest to spend money to promote Ravensburger's product if it doesn't largely affect their overall profit.

Something tells me that Disney wanted to enter the TCG market, but didn't want to commit hard to it. Wouldn't be surprised if this was another throwaway project by Disney.

Even Ravensburger were surprised how fast Lorcana was selling
>>
>>92636849
It had a huge debut at Disney's own D20 event and is sold in the Disney parks themselves, and has its section on the Disney Store website. It is absolutely not being treated as a throwaway project.
>>
>>92637297

god she would look great pregnant
>>
>>92637958
Being a dragon, would she not just lay eggs? Do egg-layers ever really look pregnant?
Not to step on your weird fantasies or anything, I'm actually curious. Chickens are my only frame of reference here.
>>
So, Beast - Selfless Protector says "Whenever one of your other characters would be dealt damage, put that many damage counters on this character instead." If you have 2 of them in play, and one of your other characters is dealt 3 damage, for example, does each Beast receive 3 damage counters, or just one of them?
>>
>>92638615
i think since she's so slender she would, also she's a dragon so we dont really know her anatomy but some egg layers do look pregnant beforehand
>>
>>92638793
Just one, since the damage counters are a finite thing and beast is not creating more. You would get to choose which one they go on.
>>
>>92640284
Interesting. Either way, I'm thinking of pairing him with Maleficent - Mistress of All Evil to create an engine of vengeance that can't be stopped by resistance. We'll have to see if it's effective in practice and not just theory.
>>
>>92640961
There might be an idea there, moving all damage to Beast, use A Whole New World to move damage off Beast to remove their characters. Tricky, but maybe possible.
>>
>>92641761
A Whole New World is one way to achieve it, but I was thinking of using The Queen's Castle instead.
>>
>>92641974
Also good, but that relies on you having damaged characters at the start of your turn, which I think is less consistent.
>>
>>92642347
You're not wrong, but there are other reasons that I prefer Q'sC, aside from the fact that I only have 1 AWNW, and getting a full set of Q'sC is easier and cheaper (hell, if I was made of money, I might even consider both).
Q'sC is inkable, costs less, and lasts for many turns unless your opponent gets aggressive against it or has location removal. It also gives you 2 lore every turn and has the potential to give you even more cards per turn than AWNW (though unlikely, and at that point you've probably already won), and you don't have to give up the cards in your hand or give your opponent the advantage of refilling his hand. Plus, with AWNW, you have to wait around with the card in your hand for the perfect moment to strike, in that time your opponent could easily Bear Necessities or Ursula - Deceiver it out of your hand, while Q'sC is useful on its own in a variety of ways, no matter when you decide to play it.
Ugh, sorry, this is getting rant-y, and I'm not trying to bag on AWNW, it's obviously a great card, too, but I'm likely going to stick with Q'sC because AWNW is just too difficult for me to get copies of.

Your rant is 100% unneeded since I said nothing bad about the Castle, and there's no reason you can't have both.

I *DID* apologize mid-rant because I thought it was sounding too negative, AND mention that in a perfect world I'd have both, yes.

If I wanted to give this a whirl with my wife, would it be best advised to try and grab the first set starters? She's never really done a TCG, but she's semi-familiar with card games as we play a lot of deck builders together.

I just worry jumping in with the newest set with locations and whatnot (that even I wasn't aware were a thing) might be overwhelming. Or is it all still pretty easy to grasp?

If anything, the Set 1 starters are almost too basic. Great if you want a decent base to start collecting with, but I think the Set 2 and 3 starters are better focused on a theme. The location rules are not too overwhelming and if you want, you can always remove them for your first few games.
