thoughts?
>>
>>92588278
a white lion chariot did pretty good against my Dwarfs last game
>>
>>92588327
Bone dragon riding priest is bad. Makes him an easy target for shooting and he can't cast or dispel if he is locked on combat actually using that dragon he paid 265pts for. Tomb king on dragon is great though. Drop the tomb swarms for a 3rd scorp: you need all 3 to instagib a dragon lord on the charge and you don't want him swinging back. Other than that, pretty good, maybe if you just put the priest on foot, spend some points on a bsb so you can re roll arise tests, is well worth it
>>
>>92588384
Sure but that's anecdotal. The lack of ap on the lion claws, and the single attack each on the crew means they have 0 staying power of they don't force the enamy to fall back in good order
>>
>>92588404
i dont think anyone is expecting chariots themselves to have 'staying power'. i mean you're not wrong but you shouldn't be using them for that anyways.
>>
>>92588392

I think priest on dragon is good if you make him your general, you get an 18" radius on his Self range spells that way.
>>
>>92588278

Why are they bad compared to, for example, Beastmen chariots? I want to learn.
>>
Should I give Black Orcs with Great Weapons the Frenzy banner?

Seems like I want to be chargemaxxing them anyways, but having two Frenzy units on a line (alongside Savage Orcs) seems risky. Do I take more Goblin screens with it?
>>
>>92588392
My plan was basically >>92588450

Also I already have a bsb that's what the level 2 Mort Priest is for. But thank you both for the advice
>>
>>92588471
>>92588392
Another question, should I even bother with the tomb prince on foot? I'm only taking him for crown of kings but I'm not sure if the points would be well spent elsewhere
>>
>>92588471
>>92588450
Wat? Range self don't get a range equal to your command range. Also cloak of dunes is infantry only.
>>
>>92588452
Beastmen chariots are 85pts and core, where as elf ones are special and 125pts. Beastmen chariots are also okay rather than amazing
>>
>>92588511
>Also cloak of dunes is infantry only.
I forgot, I took him off the dragon anyways so not like it matters anymore
>>
Piccolo's dick?
>>
So I read the available fluff on Ind online, and beastmen with tiger features were mentioned numerous times. The problem is that basically all stls I've seen of weretigers and the like are too furryesque for me to be comfortable using them.
>>
>>92588278
They are shit points wise but if you want to take them they’ll do fine. Just not as efficient as other options
>>
>>92588511

The Tomb King spells work like that. Desert Wind and Cursed Blades.

Should I put my paladin BSB with foot knights, grail knights, or questing knights?
>>
>>92588755
Royal Pegasus is better than the Hippogryph but if you want the hippo more power to you. Drop the ToP, if anyone is going to be able to regain the ward save it's this guy. He's your best combat character, give him a virtue. Even if it's something cheap like Joust or Confidence + Gauntlet. But ideally you want to go big with Heroism + Lucky Heirloom or Frontier Axe + Knightly Temper.
The rest is fine although getting those wizards on horses would be nice, 5 Squires with Scouts will do more work than the Bowmen, and Pegasus Knights don't need a musician as units with Fly can march while within 8" of an enemy unit anyway. If you can squeeze the points for Banner of the Zealous Knight onto the PK that'd be nice as well.
>>
>>92588930
GK are immune to psychology and are most likely to smash what they charge. Could put it in QK. But in foot knights with Rampaging Banner + Virtue of the Impetuous Knight means you can actually give them a half decent threat range. Plus you can "blinker" them with your cavalry units so they don't go off on unwanted chn8rpjarges.

You could go full deathstar and stick a level 4 damsel in there with Illusion, Lore Familiar and Sword of the Stout Hearted. She can throw out Column of Crystal/Miasmic Mirage on the way in, gives them MR2 and magical attacks. And then throws out The Lady's Wrath + Spectral Doppelganger so you'll have (assuming 7 wide) 21 S6 AP-3 attacks and 2d6 S6 AP-2 autohits both with AB1.

Pretty shitty on their part desu, though no one's going to stop you if you use his in TOW either way.
Also, I've enjoyed his iterations thus far (picrel is my favourite).
>>
What’s the verdict on the arcana journals out so far then? Are they interesting and fluffy or do I benefit more from just using the lists online
>>
>>92589151
There's some fluff in them, I personally love the Bretonnian Exiles and Tomb Kings Mortuary Cult lists
>>
>>92589151
they give you one strong unit and lock you behind a slightly more restrictive list, though it usually isn't very limiting. Wouldn't say they are neccessarily that interesting though since the fluffy units are the weakest ones and you won't take them. Also just getting two lists is a bit lame, most armies could easily field three or more archetypes, something like greenskins could run what, 6 different flavours of armies? Mongol Horde goblins, Night goblins, forest goblins etc.
>>

they give you some extra tools but I don't think there's enough content to justify a separate publication

What's Bretonnia's Naval Fleet like? Does every Dukedom have a Ducal Fleet or something? Or is it just warships owned by individuals rallied into a fleet, feudal style? Would Carcassone have a fleet?

What about the Empire? I thought I read somewhere that the Empire's fleets are mostly low water barges designed for patrolling the riverways, and that Nordland is mostly the naval capital of the Empire, with Ostland being too poor or otherwise occupied to maintain a fleet, and Marienburg being pricks(including blocking sea access to the rest of the Empire via exorbitant fees)

Brettonia has a royal navy that according to much older lore is more advanced than the Empire and uses Cannons on the ships which still hasn't been contradicted in recent years
the Empire has three(maybe four) separate fleets, one located in Altdorf that full of older ships that are moulding in dock due to the Empire not willing to pay Marianburg to transport to put them at sea and due to the lack of proper habours(as of yet) on the empire northern coast none of these large vessels can dock in places like Salzenmund or Norden.
the second Fleet is a newer smaller fleet based in Nordland that is a more recent creation as of the WFB/WFRP time period and full of much newer ship designs that are smaller than that of the first fleet.
the thrid fleet is is based in Carroburg but it's secret project by the prince of carroburg so Franz isn't even aware of it

The "no gunpowder on Bretonnian SOIL" loophole? I guess that open-source up the legal status of brets ruling as Border Princes for gunpowder eligibility.
>>
>>92594424
>"no gunpowder on Bretonnian SOIL" loophole?
maybe but it's more that it's never brought up
the recent WFRP book about sea travel and combat etc didn't bring up Brettonia's use of Gunpowder and that pretty bad BL book also didn't mention it but every ship the Brettonian used had gun ports in them which would be pretty useless if they didn't have some form of Cannons

Aside from that though yeah Silver Helms, and honestly most heavy cav, is generally better than KoTR - usually cheaper to boot. That 6th ed book just doesn't stand up to the later 8th ed ones.

So one of the key things in cannon to keep in mind is that It is not the nobility who run the navy in Bretonnia, but the merchant class. Ships by default revolve around mercantilism and is therefore beneath the knights and the nobility of the realm, and is this essentially unregulated outside of paying taxes.

It's one of those interesting dichotomies present with in the faction: according to the army books, RBG books, and articles in white dwarf, the rising merchant class within bretonnia is gaining steam and traction to the point that there are many commoners who are practically more powerful than the local lords, while still technically being socially inferior.

In man-o-war, they are flat out Superior to the empire in every way on the sea.

Whoops, missed thid one.
Gallia makes great Bret proxies. For 1k points take one good column of cav (remember that lances form as 3, 6, 10 and your lord/hero will fill the tip)
Take the minimum peasants, but they DO hold the line with enough ranks, so keep that in mind.

As for my background, it all stafted when I wanted to have an Exiles list and saw the Flying carpet and Damsel...

My main list has this origin:
The (minor) King Rouland was riding out to war when his rival, King Morgan, came upon him guiled as a peasant who clained he had been sold a malfunctioning (and possibly cursed) bow by an Empire merchant. Determined not to let this slight go unanswered, as he was preparing for war with the greenskins, King Rouland was persuaded to give the bow a test shot. The arrow flew true and struck the tree he had aimed for, but the second part of Morgan's scheme was fulfilled; the body of a well-known bandit had been concealed on the tree and the arrow had struck it. To all in audience, it appeared the good king had shot a cur with a bow.
Immediately, half his knights deserted the shamed king. They took their Men-at-Arms with them, and left were the many peasants who knew nothing of what transpired and the knights who considered their vows of allegiance more sacred than those to chivalry itself.
Off to crusade did the Exiled king go. Soon he came upon a castle in far Araby, tall and stout. King Rouland vowed to see the insides of the castle before a fortnight had passed and his steadfast Paladin Tristrem swore he would remain steadfast. The Damsel Isolde counseled him that this was the Lady's wishes, so the king sent a messanger holding aloft his silver and navy blue banner, displaying the coat of a crescent moon the king still bore...
>>
Damn you can take a lot of mercenaries and allies.

Within the castle, clad in the red and gold of his Phoenix coat of arms, the Arabian Sultan saw this new force as yet another headache. Ogres from coast, skeletons stirred in the wastes, and bandits plagued his trade routes. Yet the Sultan's daughter was a powerful mystic who had received a vision that when the moon and sun became as one, their kingdom would be renewed. So the family had held the forces of woe at bay for half a decade before seeing the besieging forces and fearing the vision was false. The daughter's teacher, Jaffar, had consulted the djinn about the vision and saw it to be true, but with a ring of foreign forces circling the castle, it seemed hard to believe.
Yet when all hope seemed lost and the Sultan had locked himself in his quarters in despair, his daughter caught sight of the banner displayed by the parlaying knight. Her heart leapt and she spent the day meditating to make sure, for if this risk she was to take were to fail she might perish or be enslaved or taken hostage for her father's surrender.
That night she took her magic carpet out and flew out to greet the invader, to try and beg for peace. They met as the exiled king was taking an evening walk, and the two fell in love immediately.

The next day the good king demanded the Sultan's daughter in marriage in exchange for lifting thw siege. The daughtet had returned home without a single word to her father, who would surely have been furious to know she put herself in such danger.
The Sultan's response was timely, demanding the heads of his enemies before he agreed to allow his precious daughter to marry one so dishonorable he was exiled from his own lands. At once Isolde cried out that this was as she had foreseen, and the good king agreed immediately.
He slew an ogre horde and returned sith the bandit leader's head within that fortnight, and the Sultan threw open the gates and greeted the good king as a guest.
The two families were wed and the Sultan pledged some of his forces to the wedded king's army in return for assurnces that his daughter would be taken care of. King Rouland pledged it so, and here we are.

I have camel-riding archers as my yeomen archers and an Arabian-themed bombard, an Arabian woman on a flying carpet (for when she joins her husband in battle) and a regular Damsel on a steed for when Isolde comes to join her beloved Tristrem's Knights of the Realm in battle.

just what I can remember, I'm a little drunk right now

Aren't like half the dukes actively living the sea? I het this attitude is probably reflective of the overall sentiment Brets in general have for sailing, but I think some additional material for the nonility directly involved in navigation, shit like Bordeleaux, Brionne, L'Anguille and Mouse Lion seem impossible to separate from what happens over the water. Throw in how the Northern dukedoms are very close to Marienburg and it's hard to play it off like they don't care at all about sailing, even if they still.have disdain for it.

GW exercises tight control over what goes into the Total War games and always has done right from the start. Kislev and Cathay were designed by GW's team; the trailer with a bunch of talking heads about the design process for the new armies was entirely GW staff. Do you really think that the kind of company that gets anal over beaks on tzaangors would also turn around and say 'yeah sure Mr. 3rd Party just do whatever you want with these new armies just make it up yourselves'?

It's a very simple rule - AoS don't want the smelly groggies in TOW using their stuff. TOW gets to have Beastmen, but they're *all* regular goatmen, we're not allowed birdmen or slutgoats, and so GW mandated CA go beakless for theirs so they don't encourage anyone to buy Tzaangors to use in TOW.

It's bizarre to me that GW is run by people who apparently never left fucking highschool.

Does Cygor see nothing but a mix of 8 different colors?
>>
>>92601767
no, has only 1 eye so he must see only half of the 7 colours we see, so he must see only red, blue, yellow and gre

How was received the beastmen 7th edition rulebook and the addition of cygors, gorghons and razorgors ?
>>
>>92601842
From what I remember people were underwhelmed and most of the chatter was about the awful minotaur and razorgore models.
>>
>>92601815
>gre
heh. Guess they can only see O&Gs one half a time?
>>
>>92601839
GW for whatever reason wants people to have different armies for different systems under the belief that people will want one army for every system rather than multiple armies for one system or just one army
>>
>>92601842
razorgors were hideous and universally mocked (like the minotaurs), cygors and ghorgons were cool modelling opportunities since they were just art and fluff, same with the jabber, the models for those were made way later and were a bit disappointing because the ghorgon didn't match the bulk of the artwork and much of the sculpt was actually just the assets of the giant kit but with shit slapped onto it, and a number of third parties had already tackled making models for them, and that was before 3d printing took hold, so the GW kits were just convenience more than quality

the main concern was actually rules, because as usual beastmen weren't that popular, plenty of people were coping by claiming the rulebook was simply balanced with 8th in mind, since it was one of the last 7th ed books, but that's always a thing people say and get burnt by
the monsters and beastmen at large weren't hot in rules terms

I think I give up on painting. I've always hated it and it causes me nothing but stress
>anon, just spend another few years learning!
>just buy a better set of paint!
>just watch three hours of tutorial videos!
>just spend $500 on a set-up!
I don't want to spend hours of time giving myself anxiety to "get better" at something I have nothing but disdain for. I play this game for the game, not to spend time guessing the right color combinations or perfecting the drop ratio of colors to mix them. I want to hit things with swords, not re-paint a sleeve because I slipped when painting the armor I was re-painting because I slipped when painting the sleeve I was re-painting because I slipped when painting the armor. I don't want to paint every fucking thread, belt buckle, coin pouch, and plume on these fucking models, I want to roll dice.
I wish I could enjoy this part of thr hobby, but I just can't force myself to.
>>
>have old boar chariot laying around

Should I convert it up or let the blorc boss have a more unique one?

God, I hate destroyers, annoying little fucks. They should bring back battleships.
>>
>>92602387
Consider video games. Plenty of sword hitting action and zero painting there.
>>
does anyone play this game on tabletop simulator? I always wanted to try the game since I was a kid and played a demo game at my local game store, but I couldn't afford it then and now I have no one to play with.

TTS is kind of finicky and prone to some weird behavior especially when both players have to share the files being used.
Not looked into it too too much but that SOLV game that I get banner ads is actually apparently good

>>
>>92602479
The point of the board game isn't to paint the figures, it is to play the game. People can enjoy both painting and playing, but the rules are written for play, not rules on how to paint.
>>
>>92602390
Black orc armor is heavy. The wooden chariot would need structural reinforcement to carry them, so add gubbins to show it's been modified to carry the extra weight, or make sure your 3d print reflects that
>>
>>92602566
NTA, but I would argue Warhammer has never really been a concise or tight enough of a rule set across any system really to make the actual game the majority appeal of the system.
At least to me it’s a story telling experience more then anything which involves both, but leaves towards making my dudes feel like my dudes then the game itself
>>
Can beastmen rise to daemonhood?
>>
>>92602682
Short answer: If they where cool enough then yes probably

Probably depends on if they are specifically aligned to one god then yes probably as a sort of end point of their road. If it’s one partially exceptional beastmen I could see them refusing godhood just off not wanting to bend the knee to one specific chaos god
>>
>>92602682
Beastfiends are a thing.
>>
according to GW rob:
>Warhammer world gave away all their WHFB kits to USA team during the USA open
>WH:World's TOW event had 60 people and 200 on the wait list
>the only reason they could only have 60 is because they didnt have enough terrain ready
we won
>>
>>92601839
Because the balance sheets for specialist games like TOW, Blood Bowl etc and the mainline games of 40K & AoS are separate. This is because Specialist Game Studios is actually a discrete, separate sub-company within the overall Games Workshop business setup.
So any money or labour spent/earned by one is kept completely separate from the other. So they are trying to keep crossover lines to a minimum.
>>
>>92602387

What faction are you painting? Just play one that you can drybrush/wash/highlight.

Everyone was where you were at some point, and yeah you gotta put the time in to get better. Or earn enough money to commission your stuff.

>>
Have a bunch of battle reports I could post, should I do that or play BG3?
>>
>>92603220
Legions is half baked and they launched prematurely. The fucking Assault Squad wasn't even out yet. Not to mention plastic Mechanicum is also on the way. They should've launched Legions like 2 years from now. So all the early supporters are going to have to languish with minimal support for at least another year, which we all know is great for the health of a game. Should've waited until they got out all the plastic they wanted for HH before even thinking about Imperialis.

I never heard about any beastman daemonprince but since in TOW beastmen have a rule "the eye of the gods" and can roll "aphoteosis" - I'd say yes, they can become daemons.

You don't have to use the chariot's save.
You can use either his save or the chariot's. The only restriction is that if you have something like Armour of Ages on the Prince you HAVE to use his armour save if you want to benefit from the special rule.
This is something that was clarified in the recent FAQ update, picrel.
