My first time at a casino I won 50 dollars on slots on my first spin. My brain kept telling myself I should just go a couple more times until I broke even and recuperate that 10 bucks I lost, surely I had to win again after such a losing streak, luckily I was able to realize “ah so that’s how the house gets you” and I stopped while I was 40 bucks ahead. Ended up spending half that money at the buffet though. But it was a valuable lesson to avoid gambling and I suppose that’s a win

I was never at a casino because I have >70 IQ but when I was a kid my dad gave me 5$ to spend on slots near an arcade section on a railway station while we were waiting for a train (it was legal in my shithole back then). Been wanting to talk about casinos. I started going to my local casino just to spend a few hours playing and build up points.I put some money in a double diamond old school style slot machine. $.25 with 9 lines so $2.25 a spin. I hit a big jackpot I think it was $150. After a couple trips it took all my money. The thing is I enjoy playing the machine. If it didn't cost $200/hour to play I would actually do it. Way too over priced.Then I played Craps. I try to develop Craps strategy on Wizard of Odds; sometimes you get lucky but usually you go bust. I did get lucky a few times but lately busted. I started out ahead and now I'm using my own money so I don't really want to play anymore. The issue is I just want to sit in front of a machine for a couple hours and sip on a drink and listen to podcasts. But they make it too expensive.

I have blown thousands chasing the gamblers high. I have hit a few good jackpots. I used to gamble a lot, so the casino would send me free credits to lure me back in. I was homeless at the time, took a bus to the casino with my 200 voucher, hit for 2k. Ate good that night, slept in a nice bed, did my laundry. Next day I went back and lost it all. This cycle repeated itself several times.

More often than not they're just making legitimately stupid plays that may or may not work, but if you're doing that with huge money (and succeeding, especially), it's gonna draw some attention.That said, a couple hundred bucks over a run isn't going to perturb the house too much even if it is advantage play. The sort of money you're taking isn't even enough to bother a pit boss over in most casinos or even really catch the dealer's attention unless it's incredibly bold. I see dumber plays for more money from players at all skill levels on the daily.
