For Sword World Core Books/Supplements/Replays/etc:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1tg3hNkIw7sgAI8PH8XTEyMy6jpUO-thD

It's mostly 2.0 and 2.5 content, which ARE compatible with each other, but the original SW 1.0 content from 1989 started getting stuff translated too! The first one is not compatible at all with 2.0 and 2.5, but it's still a historically important release.

I know there's some faggot squatting on the localization rights for all things TBZ, but someone needs to just do a fan translation and when that faggot shows up to complain how he has the rights and you can't do that, someone should break his skull open with a brick.

Monotone Museum. I know that a fan translation was done, but the rules for the game more or less amount to "Just use the base engine with these specific mechanics and you've got it", and since then it seems a lot more books came out that were never looked at or translated.

They seem to have some nice art, but mechanically I would be interested on Mato Tokyo 200X, which is the most recent version that got books from 2005 to 2010.

LionWing went with the Nocturne TTRPG (2004) for more recognizability because of Demifiend and all the mainline game artwork.

" What you use is one 6-sided die and a character sheet. All you need is a writing utensil and a rulebook!
To create a character, just look at the JK creation table and roll the dice. Of course, you can choose and decide by yourself, or decide in your own words.
Once you become a JK, it's time for fortune telling! We will decide what is called a handout for the high school girls who will play with that scenario. However, since she is a high school girl, she has no "mission" or "secret". What we have instead is ``Youth''. This is a guideline for high school girls who play with that scenario! This may be the same or different depending on the person.
Of course, depending on how you create the scenario, you may be able to do things that are secret to other high school girls.

Once you have decided on your "youth" (guidelines), the next step is to collect "likes". You can get ``Likes'' by posting your accomplishments on the in-game SNS, and once your ``Youth'' is determined, the points you will collect will be automatically determined.
There are ``cute points'' that stand out, ``cute points'' that are beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, and ``bakuwara'' points that are fun and humorous.
Depending on the scenario, you can compete for these points or work together to collect a single point.
These points can be earned or lost if the "quest" judgment is successful!

Judgment is OK with basic role play. Use your own characteristics written on the character sheet called JK words and the "lucky word" determined at the beginning of the scenario, and if you use JK words up to the target number, you will be judged successfully!
Of course, for those who are not good at role-playing, don't worry, there are dice judgments and help rolls where you can get help from your high school friends"

It warms my heart to see this thread again, as the last big japanese ttrpg thread was a big inspiration and a great help in finding systems. Soon, I have a Kamigakari game scheduled with three players and using the archive to find old resources like a google sheets character sheet and a helpful session 1 example someone made has eased the stress a lot. I know the system isn't actually as bad as it seems, but it's still the kind of thing that feels overwhelming at a glance, hahah. Very excited to run it soon!

First, nice dubs. Second, there's not a ton of pdfs to be found, at least of the raws. Japanese companies feel like these cause piracy because they do, lmao, so they tend to keep any digital copies as other formats. Often, they'll have them readable only through a proprietary reader only usable through a website, but occasionally some companies (like Group SNE) will put their stuff on Amazon, which can be read through Kindles and so are easier to rip into something usable. However, there are some games that simply don't exist as anything but physical copies, and so the only way it'll find it's way outside of Japan is if someone imports and scans it. I think there's at least one version of Alshard that's like this, but no doubt there's more.

This happened for Card Ranker, too. An anon went to Japan, scavenged to find all three books (this took a while), came back, and scanned them at the library into PDFs (after some trial and error).

Quick Start is a manga about high school girls playing JTRPGs, primarily games by FEAR. /tg/ did do scanlations of up to ch13, but from ch14 onward, a group called Heavens Feel continues up till the end of vol.3. A few people... Dislike what they have done. One notable highlight is ch 57 where they play Sword World 2.0. (a non FEAR game)

Vol 4 has yet to be scanlated into EN.

Alshard
Tokyo Nova
Double Cross
Chaos Flare

Apparently this is a Replay focused on a Barbarous (monster) party but it also contains a side-supplement with rules to play with 10 Barbarous races + the Heritor class.
Seems like a fun time.
>>
>>92668077
the actual supplement will be out shortly after, this is just the replay advertising the Barbarous races.

Where are you guys keeping tracking of these ongoing translations? Some discord channels or something?
>>
>>92680065
Some people must have an in with certain translation groups. This thread (>>92627548, specifically) is the first anyone has heard of progress on the Card Ranker translation ever since an anon said he would hand the raws off to a group in one of the last threads.
>>
>>92680065
Some projects have their own dedicated discords (some with the same groups/people)
Such as Nechronica, Dracorouge, and Tokyo Nova discords. The Sword World discord has many other translators, with a few invite links to other servers. There are others too, and some without any dedicated group or discord at all.
>>
>>92680065.There was a JTRPG discord invite link that was shared here a few years ago, from what I heard, almost all JTRPG translators are active in there.

I'm looking forward to the meikyuu kingdom release. I'm hoping an official english release will convince my group to actually give it a shot.

That dad should be black, just sayan.
>>
>>92683819
Either way, I would absolutely make "to date my daughter, you must defeat me in a duel" as a tutorial duel and also to set the stage about just how ingrained Soul Card (Card Ranker's card game) is in the setting.
>>
>>92683870
The dad was only introduced to the game recently because he wants to bond with his daughter, who loves the game, and so committing to a duel instead of the usual "threaten the boyfriend" spiel is how he shows his love for her - by fighting for her on the terms she understands best.
>>
>>92683819
A black dad wouldn't know his daughter.

May as well share at this point, but note that some terms and assets aren't final (etc etc) and the .zip files may be removed "in the future" to make room for other drive stuff.

The discord invite has been closed off by the owner for some time now. I wouldn't know why but it seems to have coincided with discord getting more gung-ho about loli, it's basically one report away from getting nuked. To be frank the discord isn't worth it outside the game trove which I'm sure has been shared outside it. The resident autists basically only game with their friends and their rousing personalities can be quite difficult to stomach. The discord also may or may not be on some watchlist for political extremism unironically. If you want to talk to translators, you're better off tracking them down via the specific game discords.

I wish we were getting Meikyuu Days instead of Kingdom but still excited for this one also.

I'm surprised I haven't seen a game riffing on Japanese biohorror (think like Resident Evil or House of the Dead) yet. The dissonance between the horror and the over-the-top storytelling has practically cemented Japanese biohorror as its own thing.
>>

Nechronica is more like Silent Hill.

>>
>>92687357
For what it's worth, the Japanese yen is currently crashing, so it's probably cheaper than you think.
>>
>>92687210
I think that niche is filled by CoC in japan.
>>
>>92687464
Even then, it's an RPG book from 2001 based on a mecha anime. $75-$100 isn't terrible for a rulebook, especially since even D&D books are running $40-50 at this point. I'm surprised it's not significantly more, even.
>>
>>92687275
>Nechronica is more like Silent Hill.
Are we reading the same game?
>>
>>92687275
There are psychological elements to it, but Nechronica is about body horror, about broken girls trying to make their way in a broken world.
>>
>>92688367
Well, Silent Hill is about broken people trying to make their way in a "broken" world too, when you think about it. Chiefly the difference is that Silent Hill isn't post-apocalyptic. But that doesn't matter, what I'm saying is, Nechronica is more similar to Silent Hill than the other games I mentioned, not that Nechronica is literally a Silent Hill RPG.
>>92687643
CoC doesn't really scratch the same itch, players aren't killing impractical bioweapons while mad scientists go on rants about the environment and mystery men plot their revenge against the players after their plans have been foiled for the umpteenth time etc.

>broken people
no, by broken, we mean, literally, bodily, and physically broken.
Like, are we reading the same game? Silent Hill (1~2 at least) is more a metaphor for the human psyche, the body horror you see on screen is just visuals of what is inside the character's head during their darkest time.
Nechronica does factor in some mental madness as a mechanic, but the physical body is still the main foundation of the game and everything else.
>>
>>92689483
The dolls have amnesia. Through play, they discover memories and come to terms with them.
>>
>>92689515
and they can still walk around without a brain or heart too, next you gonna say they are a metaphor for purgatory?
>>
>>92689526
I'm just pointing out because of that one anon that it has more in common with Silent Hill than Resident Evil. The similarities with Resident Evil start and end with "zombies". Truthfully Nechronica is its own thing.

Resident Evil is too tame to compare to Nechronica. If there is a vidya that fits Nechcronica's gameplay, it would be Rengoku 1~2 on PSP.

>>
>>92689550
NTA, but you are absolutely wrong in the silent hill angle. Silent hill is a very subdued game in terms of character and creature design compared to RE and especially Nechronica and has a completely different focus for what it's doing with its psychological aspects. And more to >>92687210 Nechronica is absolutely what he's asking for. You can have a doll with 6 legs, tentacles hanging off, and an eyeball that pops out to fire laser beams as a starting character. The enemies tend to be even more absurd and most of their normal internal organs are little more than padding to be ripped out in a very violent manner. Really the main deviation from what he's asking about is that Nechronica plots are usually more sensible.
>>
>>92693982
You realize you are talking about shit that is just fluff in a TTRPG, how characters "look" is practically irrelevant. I'm talking about themes and storytelling, stuff that actually affects roleplays, since you know, it's a medium that like written fiction is best at conveying feelings rather than visuals. Nechronica is thus absolutely not suited for a Resident Evil game. It doesn't matter if the enemies can be made superficially similar to Resident Evil enemies, that isn't meaningful in a TTRPG. This discussion is totally off-base.
>>
>>92694407
>You realize you are talking about shit that is just fluff in a TTRPG, how characters "look" is practically irrelevant.
You can admit to being wrong and never actually having played the game. Extra Legs is a Tier 3 mutation that lets them use damaged parts in their legs as normal as long as Extra Legs isn't damaged. Tentacles is a Tier 2 mutation that gives them a range 0-1 hinder move. Laser is an attack part that can go in the head. Sure, you can fiddle with the fluff/description but the mechanics absolutely convey fucked up monsters bashing the shit out of each other in gratuitous violence as they crush Brains (a specific part with an explicit function), snap Spines (ditto), and generally have parts ripped off of them which they then lose access to the body part's specific functions. This gratuitously violent combat is at the center of the actual game part of the game and what most of it centers around and is thus immensely important to it. The PCs are monsters on the outside with the heart of a girl within and by denying all of that with your nonsense about "fluff", you are, in fact, denying the feelings and "themes" of the game.
>This discussion is totally off-base.
You are completely off base about what the game is about, to the point I'm wondering if you've ever even read the book or just heard a description about it because it is very upfront about telling you this.
>>
>>92694629
You don't get it.
Name the Resident Evil game where you play as an amnesiac superhuman zombie girl awakening in a wasteland with others like you, then fight superhuman zombies.
Yeah, you do fight superhuman zombies in Resident Evil. As a human. Sometimes with just a knife and a pistol. Sometimes without combat training. SOMETIMES WITHOUT ANY FRIENDS TO BACK YOU UP.

It's David vs Goliath, not Goliath vs Goliath.

In Resident Evil you don't have the power, but you beat the ridiculous odds. That's the feel of Resident Evil (and House of the Dead, Dino Crisis, Dead Rising... Japanese biohorror. The game being asked for, not Nechronica.)

>>
>>92695094
So just say you want a survival horror game, then. That's what Call of Cthulhu is for - it's a Japanese staple, after all.
>>
>>92695634
CoC isn't it either. In CoC you're a coward by necessity: running, hiding, losing SAN. You're a mouse.
>>
>>92695749
For what it's worth, Dino Crisis 1 and 2 had two very different tones between them - one was a horror game that emphasized terror, and the second was a whole-ass action game.

So you want a horror-type game where you can still convincingly stick it to the monsters, then?
>>
>>92695781
All the games mentioned differ in how bombastic their presentation is, or "tone", but they all fundamentally share the same ideas:
1) You're a guy, usually with a gun.
2) You have a partner sometimes.
3) You must stop The Thing or The Event before time runs out.
4) You fight your way through mostly impractical bioweapon monsters.
5) You are challenged with occasional mini-crises such as saving an NPC or solving a deadly puzzle with a timer.
6) Along the way you learn more about what is going on and why. The truth is extremely over-the-top, creating the iconic dissonance with the horror.
7) The game world feels like an artificial labyrinth, sometimes it is a literal artificial labyrinth. There are multiple paths you can take, or shortcuts.
8) The boss battles commonly feel like puzzles. The bosses are often random: one moment you fight a huge man-eating sloth, the next moment you fight a psychic bioroid. Or, in the case of Dead Rising: one moment you fight a crazy chainsaw-wielding clown, the next moment you fight a father and his sons armed with rifles who are a metaphor for gun violence or something. The unexpectedness of what you'll run into keeps the thrills going.
9) The villain is often dramatically revealed to be someone connected to you or some other main character. Often, there is a bigger villain, the mystery man, plotting from the shadows.
10) The day is saved. But the characters can never seem to catch a break with the sequels. The mystery men have no chill.

The other stuff goes without saying: bioterrorism, shady biocorporations, bootleg Kojima politics and philosophy rants, bad acting...
>>
>>92695972 (me)
11) I forgot. The multiple endings, mostly bad endings, sometimes featuring random plot twists that you're not sure if they're canon.
