>>92696184>Weird Monsters Thread.Looking at different ways Microbes hunt and live can be wonderful inspiration for monsters and creatures in games.Journey to the Microcosmos episodes can be great for learning about them. This one covers a creature that has a number of different ways to hunt and get food.https://youtu.be/fWsbE0TQEFw?si=R8850zG1u7lNIyFxSome of the episodes about stentors and suctorians have also given me ideas.

>>92715448nice!
which traditional game are you discussing?
>>92719136>What if there was a whale, but it was like, just fucking melting?
>>92723882Sailing do be like that, matey
>>92719560>>92713397>>92697449These tokusatsu (I assume) monsters are amazing. These designs are straight nuts! Where are they from?
>>92719112Hey I've seen that one in One Piece
>>92723882Each of these have a special power. The stokkul can levitate. He uses it to slam down on boats.
>>92720275How did it evolve?
>>92732665Believe it or not, it started life as a my little pony figurine inside a jar
>>92703836And that's just a man
>>92723882It's not quite that. The only "melting" parts are the flaps covering the eyes, which force this whale to jump out of the water and look below it to see shit. And this motherfucker can jump ridiculously high and cover a mile with a single leap. And he uses that ability to piledrive ships into pieces from above and break other whale's backs. Also, like other illhveli, it will home in on you if you say its name while sailing and do its best to fuck you up. And even if you manage to kill it, you can't even eat its meat because it magically disappears from a cooking pot.
>>92703673Reminds me of this old ass yugioh monster I liked as a kid because it could kill blue-eyes.
>>92696184>book of creaturesHis illustrations are... fine, but the accompanying articles are such cringe. They always feel like the dude hates monsters and is trying to get back at the folklore with his euhemeristic explanations. Which, I should note, make no sense more often than not. Not every bit of folklore was inspired by a real creature or event, probably not even 1% of them.
>>92727557I have the full collection of Super Sentai villain concept arts up to the year 2015 or so. They can be quite fun, but the forced humanoid body plan gets old after awhile.
>>92733831kek
>>92738072I have endless respect for the people that turn those designs into something you not only wear, but can fight in.
>>92732665it says synth right in the filename retard

Sorry to add AI sloppa to your thread, but maybe you guys can help.My setting takes place on a demiplane which is being slowly infiltrated by things from outside. Its a tired cliche but I like it.I wanted them to have very different forms, but keep this faceless and made out of relatively normal human bits motif. But I'm sort of out of ideas for abilities they can all share. And other weird forms. They're not really overt monsters, more manipulators and corruptors. This one specifically is found in an old magical factory. Sucking the magic from a near infinite well.
>>92739954And these ones show up in towns and settlements, granting wishes at high cost and one sided deals. My players don't know yet, but they're a sort of distributed hive mind that knows the dealings of all the others. They collectively feed off the "profit" of their deals.
>>92739981What are they asking for as payment for the wishes?
>>92738636Thats pure horror!
>>92740647Anything they can get, but often esoteric stuff, like memories, abilities, skills. Even the colour of your hair or emotions. They will, for more mundane trades, accept cash as well, but it isn't preferred and will try to upsell you until you would have to trade something "more valuable." The most important part is the trade is always in their favor and always profitable to them. The strict value of something like memories as compared to, say, Strength or Charisma is sort of left up to interpretation. Same with why or how any of that helps them.
>>92740852Maybe they can regurgitate things that they're still digesting? Like, say a guy traded the memories of his wife away. They can take that, combine it with the strength they got a few days ago, throw in some gold for hardness, give it a few of those spells it got off that wizard, and "throw up" a whole pallid mish-mash woman to use as a minion.
>>92740924Oh thats a good idea. Opens the doors for bringing back or referencing things or people the PCs deal with as well.
>>92739954Not OP, but AI slop would actually be a great way to look for weird monster designs if you think about it, given how weird some of it can be. Picture unrelated.
>>92738072It's a book? I would buy that
>>92738072please post them, I love using stuff like this as custom Stands for my jojo themed campaignpic related is Tag Team - Anvil
>>92744966I'm sorry, man, there's hundreds.
>>92719152Man, the fucking is going on in that island? Why so many giant ass whales there?
>>92720242That's a cloaker. darkmantles are the octopus/squid that look like stalagtites and fall from the roof of caves to eat dudes.
>>92747965I love these sea bastards. Reminds me of The Ocean Hunters.
>>92744966You also might want to look into Kinnikuma for guys that could readily pass as Stands.
>>92746160That tends to happen when your island's fauna consists entirely of whales.
>>92734539That just sounds miserable, you don't even get loot if you manage to kill it.
>>92738014His whole thing was that he was trying to go for "realistic" interpretations of imaginary creatures. My favourite thing about it is seeing just how many other places are just content stealers, he's mixed in a load of creatures that he made up entirely but pretends like they're from folklore, which you'd only notice if you also knew about folklore already. And since the content stealers know fuck all, they don't even realise they're being caught out when they include his creations in their creature lists.
>>92738014that seems more like an artefact of the 19th book he list as references in each article >>92755748>creatures that he made up entirely but pretends like they're from folkloresuch as ?
>>92696184I like it.
