Its tongue can heal, its tentacles can diagnose , and that giant stinger is designed to cut wounded pilots out of power armor. All that and it's fluffy so people are more likely to love them. In your game, you can have it be a friendly mutant encounter that could end with it healing the party. If that's too happy then maybe the party could harvest it for a quick medicinal high.

I always liked the more benign realistic mutants, basically people suffering in a post nuclear wasteland with a menagerie of cancers and genetic diseases. It shapes a psyche to be quite animalistic and self centered.
