>>93384560What is the foam tile for?
some inspiration from the web to start off with>>93384582it's supposed to become a 2x2' portion of a table. I'll glue on EPS tiles on top and then they should be able to fit together securely in various configurations
>>93384605What scale is this?>>93384609Sick bro>>93384622Woah what game is this?
>>93384602>>93384582Here's one of the EPS foam tiles that will go on top. The problem I have is that I want to make a depression for a stream, but my tools can't reach far enough to remove the foam in the center. Would a normal wood chisel work for this or is it too thick and would just make a mess?
>>93384672A chisel or gouge should be fine, just take care
>>933846592mm italian front during WW1. Hopefully the dude that made it will post a pic of a game in progress because I bet it would look awesome. The last pic is a stargrave convention game I think, lots of 3D printed terrain by the looks of it
Almost finished the first part of my modular palisade. Just waiting on a lamp for the center pole.
I am making 8 of these 2x2 feet table with mixed elevation to make some great Frostgrave tables.
>>93385399Nice.
>>93384672A chisel is like a knife, its edge varies in sharpness, they can be incredibly sharp but honestly ive never tried to cut foam with one.
>>93384699>>93385542worth a try at least, chisels can be pretty cheap. Seems like it's uncommon to try and cut EPS like this but a combination of tools might just work.Another alternative might be to cut the board in half at the midpoint of the river, cut it out on both ends and glue it back together
>>93384672Hand router on very low speed could do. Would let you carve the whole stream path.Probably make a bit of a mess though, follow with vacuum.
My fantasy town is finally complete after months of work! Put it to the table for a one shot a few weeks ago, and I'm really happy with the result.

>>93388784
>>93384560Bros, just ordered my first terrain. Should be here in a week or so. I will need to find a nice way to print windows and posters out.
>>93388797
>>93388775Where is that fantasy duke nukem from? Rest of the town looks great anon.
>>93388918Thank you anon. It's a 3D-print from the Artisan Guild welcome pack
>>93388958Neat thanks.
>>93388775>>93388784>>93388797>>93388807Gorgeous work, anon! What tutorials or PDF instructions did you follow so I can produce a pale but hopefully serviceable imitation of your work?
Bought myself a hot wire cutter. Pretty excited to be able to cut straight lines for once.
Great thread. Here’s an old dead cpu fan I’ve repurposed with a few spare 40k bits, some wire and a sun cap.
>>93391697Old one but lotus seed pods are peak alien terrain.

Old Orc Buildings tutorial from WD.
This is probably the best introduction into terrain making.
One pic tut for rusty pipes from toilet paper rolls.
One pic tut for barrels, again, toilet paper rolls.
>>93392229>>93392251
>>93384790That's pretty cool. I used a really similar method to make pallisades/spikey fences>>93388775That looks fantastic. Love the great sword Chad too
>>93392282Thanks man! The sword chad is the pc for one of our players that always play male human fighters. He speculate that something in his childhood causes him to want to embody burly strongmen.>>93391292Thank you for the kind words anon! I’ve been following Devs & Dice on youtube to pick up some of the techniques, great stuff. Mostly this video: https://youtu.be/1zbNlURVHVY?si=gh0BJIYWh0wxjLnBHe has some other nice videos on brickwork and such.
I'm nogames but has anyone ever tried actual lights on terrains? Like cheap dim leds as street lightning. Does not look like much in bright rooms but anyway. I would try all kind of battery-powered christmas lights etc. if i had friends etc. to actually play with self-made terrain.
>>93392433I've seen leds in computer displays and the like for sci-fi games at conventions, its entirely doable and fairly common in scale model sci-fi and ship builds, but you have to know a bit about coupling and cabelwork (or find a good guide for it). suitable led lights are readily available from some scale model webshops though.Simply putting an electric candle (with or without flickering) inside terrain like houses is much simpler, but could also look pretty good
>>93392433
>>93391413I recently took the plunge aswell. Milling bricks is addictive as all hell. Do you have any project lined up?>>93388802What did you order anon?
>>93388775>Able to convince his RPG group to not use a gridI envy you. Amazing work m80.
>>93392264Why did you use the Tintin albums as part of your terrain?
>>93392157>>93392162>>93392166>>93392175>>93392183>>93392188>>93392192>>93392198These are great. Thanks man.>>93384622Holy shit, this is crazy.>>93384790Looks promising! What did you use for the rubble in front of the palisade?
>>93384560Very cool stuff.
>>93395335I'm going to redo a stone bridge I tried to do and mill out lots and lots of good quality walls for frostgrave/oathmark.
A diorama rather than wargames terrain but a similar model would be cool for a STALKER kind of setting
>>93400548>those fucking overhangsOtherwise very nice
>>93388802Posters I make by cutting out (mostly) liquor bottle labels from supermarket flyers.
>>93400567>>93400548Great looking table, convention level. What do you play on it?
>>93402162Not mine, I saved it from a guys website a while back, I think it was some Australian convention.
>>93384560Put some posters on some walls to be used (primarily) in Necromunda
>>93405093Here the other side, and these walls are modular as well so you can switch them around or separate them too.
>>93405093>>93405109Scale reference with some Orlock minis
Tried MDF terrain and making my own oil wash.Think it's turning out alright desu. Looks like what I was going for. Needs a dry brush and some weathering and should be good to slap on the table.

I come asking for guidance.I play Infinity the Game. It's a scifi skirmish game that's set some-200 years in the future. There's plenty of room for rocky outcroppings, but has anyone got some nice pink foam outcropping and modular hill templates to work from?
>>93384560I had that thing at the back of my mind for a good while and I finally built it.But now I'm hesitating on how to paint it.It begs for a "land of death metal" lava black, with a few red dry brush here and there, but that wouldn't fit my campaign setting so much.
>>93411537blue dark teal rock
>>93411537Do it as a rotting limb of a long dead giant creature, the stairs carvbed into the rictus flesh.Lots of pale bone and skin colours, then browns reds and greens where it is rotting away.
>>93411685This, but instead of rotten, it's fossilized.
I went full desert style.
>>93384609Real fallout 1 vibes
>>93411667>blue dark teal rockOoooh that's a solid idea!I guess I could try some sort of iridescent opaline dark blue, for the hand part, so it would kinda circle back to >>93411846 's idea.
>>93412956Weird, I'm trying to post this pic https://i.pinimg.com/736x/1b/bf/4d/1bbf4db1c55dc8d6ea07052bfac8663f.jpgbut it keeps giving me "connection error".I even tried putting the picture through an image convertor and posting a screen capture.
>>93384560Been thinking about making some simple cardboard rock formations like pic rel. I was recommended spackle as the goop to use for the outer coating to seal it and add some texture before painting, but my wife is saying I should maybe consider plaster instead. Can any more experienced anons here talk to their experiences with plaster vs spackle and which I should go with for terrain crafting? Does it even matter?
>>93414518Spackle *is* pre-mixed plaster, it's just suspended in a medium to give it more body and spreadability. The acrylic-filled stuff is more flexible and water-resistant when it's dry than generic filler, the generic stuff has a better texture, but is more prone to chipping. You still have to seal them both. In either case you can mix in pigment or paint on the surface layers to help conceal chips later. Laying down either over large chunks of cardboard tends to cause warping, so be prepared to clean it up a little bit to level the bases off when you're done. Or glue down the center of the piece to a base and then run more Spackle underneath the edges of it to level it off. The other main plaster option is to drape several layers of gauze dipped in plaster over a form to get sculpted curves, then finalize it with a slip coat and seal it. It works almost exactly like fiberglass. Very light for the size of pieces you can get, and you can peg it to a foam or 3d-printed form to help it keep its shape better.
>>93384560I'm working on the corrupt/chaos version of my fountain which is my favorite terrain piece I've made so far. Gonna need a lot more layers of blood water.
I always have creative issues when it comes to terrain, but I've always wanted to build my own table. How do you guys start with scratch building terrain? Do you start with a silhouette? How do you look at a random piece of junk plastic and conclude it would look good on the tabletop? etc etc.
>>93419776I don't think much, when making, this is not a very practical approach to begin with, the walkway on this was moved and rebuild several times because of that for example, but I just like to work that way. When I found that huge, firetruck toy I knew it would have good parts for terrain. If you struggle with this, make a gameplan first. Like, depending on your setting, build a few of these: >>93392175>>93392162then make a few variations and you'll end up with almost a table full of stuff.
>>93419776Usually, as soon as I pick up pieces of plastic trash, it brings me ideas of stuff to build with it.Then it's just a matter of trying to position them next to each other and see where it goes.
>>93419979>>93420612>I don't think much, when making, this is not a very practical approach to begin with>Usually, as soon as I pick up pieces of plastic trash, it brings me ideas of stuff to build with it.But I'm guessing you guys have at least a vague idea to have the terrain pieces consistent to a theme? But you guys have a great point and I think I'm over thinking it.>>93392175Damn, I had forgotten GW used to have cool hobby tips like these
My stuff should arrive tomorrow or Friday. I will definitely be posting it once it’s assembled. I am going to have to learn to paint windows and graffiti, which should be interesting.
>>9342123850% of the theme is the way you paint it.Well... the other half would be "deciding if it's fantasy or sci-fi", but fantasy doesn't leave you much opportunities for re-using trash. But I'm very much a sculpting guy, so basically I built the theme as I was building the terrains. Inspiration kicks in kind of like that.
By the way, I'm also >>93411537building something with a Halloween skull bought from the same dollar tree. But the sculptamold I used to fill the space between the polystyrene and the skull shrinks like hell.Apparently I'm supposed to let it sit for a few hours after mixing the powder with water, would it make the result better?A material that shrink that much when drying is basically unusable.
