Get bent, Chooms. This is a Bozo thread.I want to play CP2020 so goddamn bad, I have so much terrain and so many miniatures. I can't get a group together to save my life and my schedule is fucked up right now. I'd even play online, but the last two attempts I made at getting a group together ended when people couldn't decide on a schedule and when people kvetched about the possibility(not even probability, as it should be) of their characters dying
>>94177334trove went underground, that link is invalid
>players are finally getting involved and invested in the campaign
>>94177724>R3br4nd<dot>ly/cymbergaj
Anyone made some interesting drone designs using the homebrew from last thread?
I was afraid Hope Reborn killed the threads. But speaking of that shit, I've been collecting all the RED and 2020 books and my copy of Tales from the Forlorn Hope 2020 edition finally came in. My initial plan was to run RED for my players and I do like RED and it's system but 2020 has so much good content, and in this case so much better than Hope Reborn. I still don't know if I want to waste cash on that for completionism sake, it's so fucking ass.
What's the youngest PC either you you've or one of your chooms have played and what's some things to keep in mind if you're planning playing someone in the pre-teen to early teen range?
>>94178875sweet, mind if we put this in the OP from now on?also, no one has sent forlorn hope to the cleaners?? we really are a ded gaem general
>>94177334It's not really "unique" but when I played back near launch, we had a two week gap between sessions, and on the off week our GM put up a screamsheet that referenced both the events of the last session(s) and dropped some hooks related to the next session or two. Gave him a week to prep whatever followed on from the last session, present some material, and narrow in on what we were most interested in. It worked well enough. Unfortunately don't have any of them as an example, they were all hosted directly on his Foundry instance.
>>94178906I love homebrewbro's work and have used his ACPA stuff but I haven't technically used his drone stuff. I've made insane drones to challenge my crew with, but haven't really had to stat them because when the tech asks to rebuild one I let him know how many months it'll take and he just gives up. That might change with the new headquarter rules so he can have pet projects in addition to making money. That being said some custom drones I've made have had a tarot theme, so Wheel of Fortune was a murderous slot machine drone used by the Bozo's (big draw was it had 1 of 7 random weapons, including a 500eb bundle that a player could grab if they were quick enough otherwise their arm gets broken) and Death was represented by jiang-shi humanoid drones used by a taoist netrunner which were basically just the gemini with magna knuckles built into the hands. I've also got ED-209 on the backburner when the crew realizes that I'm not just making Robocop references for memes but I made it actually canon. >>94179227For the most part the easiest way to adapt 2020 adventures to RED is to use the mook templates from Danger Gal (most likely hardened) and when asked about skill checks try to keep it within the DV13-17 range, with a 21+ thrown in for spice, but also don't forget to use penalties (-2 first time, -1 general nighttime, -4 vision obscured, -4 being subtle, etc). If you're running the first few sessions you can also give the players an easier time with skill checks and even reduce the DV. The core rulebook's screamsheets have a lot of this, like unlocking a door is only DV12.
>>94180228New Forlorn Hope has been in the pirate thread's new arrivals mega for almost a week now. Edgerunners was cleaned and uploaded almost immediately too. Piratechad's link is r3br4nd<dot>ly/newV0l@ but without 1337speak, however the pirates hide their links with a scavenger hunt for a reason. They work hard to provide this content for free and I don't think it's right to make it easier to obtain, and thus easier to get flagged and deleted by Jabba the Hutt and his friends. But if any of us ran our own mega, even if it was a clone of the pirate's, that's fine to put in the OP. That's my 2 cents anyway.
Need a bit of help making 'force of nature' NPC. This NPC is supposed be like top dog of a company, a bodyguard like Adam Smasher. I know about "if you don't want him beatable, don't stat him", but what should I do if the players want to fight him anyway for some reason? I'll allow the players to slow him down on running away for creative actions obviously.
>>94182177Something I've wanted to experiment with is destructible environments. For example, thin steel is SDP 25 and thick steel is SDP 50. A grenade on average does 21 damage, so if you throw a grenade or two (this could take two crew working together unless someone has the cowboy grenade launcher) at someone you could potentially cause them to fall into the floor below even if they survive (and if your top dog is an Adam-class threat according to the CEMK he should easily be shrugging off most of a grenade's damage). A third grenade might be required for thicker floors. And a rocket (8d6) damage on average is 28, so this could be a 1 or 2 situation. You could also have a player with demolitions set up a trap in such a way (and maybe the demoman has been setting charges hidden on each floor in the same area, dropping your Mr. X down multiple floors in one go!). For an FBC worth their salt with such high armor this feeble attempt will probably at most do single digit personal damage and 2 hits on the armor (one for the explosion, one for hitting the ground) but it will buy the crew time. But if the crew wants to fight, here is my FBC ace in the hole>hardened enemy boss is fullbody conversion with best gear possible>through grenade spam and sacrificed allies, crew gets boss down to low HP (under BOD perhaps, activating special trauma team-like alert)>ninja max rank tech appears, slaps boss on the ass to Jury Rig his health and armor back to full HP and SP>second phase begins, ninja smoke grenades and runs awayThis might seem unfair, but CEMK Adam did have rejuvenating armor so the idea is floating around their design notes.
>>94180632cheers, i agree with you. im going to learn how to host some of this stuff safely. its a bit 08 of me but i realize i am quite passionate about things being made available for free.
>>94179227/cpg/ is one of those threads that will stay dead unless someone makes one, but if there is someone to do so, they will stay alive.
Is it better to buy the 2020 sourcebook from DTRPG or direct from R Talsorian? I heard one was made with the original typesetting data and the other is just a reprinted scan, but I can't find any info to confirm either.Thanks.
new forlorn hope isn't bad but I was super triggered by them spelling klick as click. Also, the good writing suddenly gets jarringly broken up by what's obviously a heckin sensitivity editor changing some brief descriptions to people to the Current ESG Guidelines. it suddenly feels super stilted and corporate every other description of these characters in the short stories is organic and clipped, and then suddenly it's >The voice that told me to shut up last night coming from a woman of East Asian descent nestled in close, little spoon style, against a Black woman at the bar.you can just tell it was edited by someone payed to avoid offending anyone to say East Asian descent and Black. note that white characters are just white, no capitalization and no of descent, and mostly described by how they actually look. even these characters are described much more organicallythis is the writer/editor in me bitching, I otherwise quite enjoyed the intro and thought it was mostly well written. my other quibble is this >Those words were written by my dad, C.J. O'Reilly, a Media who spoke truth to power back in the 2020's before most of you were even born.Ah look mate but did he really yeah? I remember him from tales and from solo of fortune 2, and he wasn't precisely fighting the man... he was basically a /k/ommando
>>94186605first mission is okay, definitely babies first gig but I like it. >first actshort and sweet. could use a bit more meat and ways to approach, like blackmail or leveraging rivals against blank. Easy enough for me and the players to work with and fill in. Nice selfish characters with unsympathetic motivations, but who aren't sociopaths willing to kill and die for no reason.>act two>clockThis is just the hot new thing now? they use it well at leastlots of real consequences here, actual bad things can happen to people, good stuff. relies too much on doing damage to do distinctly non combat things like open a busted door. but all the little dialogue blurbs are way to calm and polite. lots of "would you be able to help?" in a situation where they die if you say no lol.>climaxactually interesting combat encounter, I must say i like this. however, [spoilers] I think a neo nazi boostergang would use stronger language when attacking a transgender woman who gives shelter to gay kids[/spoiler] but fuck me it's nice to have actual bad guys in Red! and an interesting fight! bit too little cover but still.it's a bit early in the adventure I think for the crew to become so seriously involved in a serious thing, but I do like the sense of a fresh start and two clear objectives to meet by the end of the adventureThat said, my big critique would be that the adventure relies on trying to create real emotional attachments by the players to NPCs. the OG forlorn hope waited until you were a few adventures in before it tried to make you do something based on care for the forlorn hope cast, and was just odd jobs first that made you become attached to them. here they're literally strangers who you only met that morning for a job.
>>94186730my advice? you really need to have another job with the forlorn hope before this, tie your players backstories to some regulars, existing or invented, let them hang out there first and try to fit in, or have heard about it in legends on the street and have always wanted to be welcome there. something not just for the PCs but the players to feel attached in some way to make the second act more impactful and give them a reason to care about the adventure before themoverall unironically a good start, but nothing you could use for just a one shot imho, so if you're not running the adventure you can't get much from it. and as I said, you need to stretch it to two sessions so the players can build a fondness for everyone before you actually take the job described. maybe chuck in one of the jobs from tales from the red, the one about the murders with little santiago or the one with the clothes and couriers could be reworked pretty easily, and if you're ambitious you could probably tie Marianne and the hope into the last two adventures of tales with the murder and gay kids. Another option would be to steal the danger gal mission from the dossier and just rewrite it to be the hope who hires the investigation. a small mark on an otherwise strong start, I'll give it a genuine 7.5/10
>>94186730>>94186605oh and also: holy shit this thing is full of maps, both grid maps for encounters but maps of the bar etc. and character art of people your players need to find or fight. funnily enough the set that isn't center stage is usually good or decent and not the garbage they use for most of the big stuff. lots of statblocks and other GM resources. fucking thank you for doing this RTL, so many publishers are lazy hacks who won't do these simple things to make life better for your GMs and give strong identity to people your players have to physically look for. three grid maps in one short adventure is a treat
I'm just reading ahead in the Hope Reborn Campaign book and skimming now, but the sense I'm getting is that the book really brings night city to life. I'm gonna dump my thoughts so farlots of specific neighbourhoods with specific character to them that are quite varied while all feeling like they are in the same night city, plenty of regional gangs. the city feels much more realized here than in tales from the red, which, baring some exceptions, have no sense of place and don't feel strongly connected to the setting or time period. You get around a fair bit and each place feels different in a way that reminds me of the OG night city source book. The second and third adventure both are VERY strongly tied to night city as a place and specific neighbourhoods and exploring them and the people there. Some good sense of the economic state of NC and what it's like to live there in red, FINALLY. Nice to see thought put into how real estate, development, and housing works in a recovering post nuke NC, socially and economically. I'm quite biased because this is the most interesting part of RED to me and it's adjacent to my career, so YMMVI can't speak too much to how organic the characters feel just from skimming but there's plenty of actual bad guys, both the booster sociopaths and the more complex corpo/fixer scumbags. thank god, TftR gave me tooth ache. However their dialogue is consistently a bit... they say things unnaturally, maybe like characters in a TV showthe final adventure also makes good use of the hot zone and explores the economics of scavenging there. however it looks a bit railroady to me, we shall see. the job giver literally tells you there are two paths to choose from to resolve their quest which is... but the stats on the Boss look nasty and he has unique cyberware not before released, which is good to see as it opens the door for more interesting boss encounters in the future.
Do the Chinese and Soviets try to spread their branch of corpo-socialism?
>>94186977If I had to guess, the new Red NC sourcebook had a fairly far along draft when they were working on this adventure, and I bet developing the adventure helped them in developing the sourcebook. you can tell the setting is fleshed out at RTL and they need to get that to us, it's taken too longthe fifth adventure I'm leery of. skimming it, it seems to be like popcorn kibble - you're given a bunch of gay little errands that don't really feel uh, becoming of PCs, like fucking fetch quests. I'll reserve judgement because I can also tell from skimming that a lot more is going on than in PK and that there's actually combat, so it might be fun. The fourth starts from an interesting idea (real spirits/wines/etc being stored as appreciating assets people can invest in) but it's the heist one so I definitely can't tell if it'll be good just from a glance. The overall plot of the campaign also feels surprisingly cohesive if, perhaps, a bit straight forward. I think if you want to run Red as RED and not 2020, 2077 or your own thing, this is going to be excellent for getting your players to really get into the setting. Each job/arc is quite meaty to be honest and the rewards are good.A highlight for me is that the book is littered with little blurbs about a place, corp, event etc as it comes up, with a small DV attached so if your players ask what they know about, say, rocklin augmentics, you can just quickly have them roll and read the blurb. Very, very nice touch. There's a ton of stat blocks, maps, tables, flow charts, hyperlinks and more, they really put a lot of thought into layout and GM tools here, and I just have to praise that. Too many publishers leave too much tedious work to the GM that just slows things down.Best of all I am very happy to report that THE ROLLER DERBY IS NOT PLOT MANDATORY! it is easily skipped, written out, or reworked! it's essentially a side gig for a (honestly quite charming) poser gang of 80s style funky derby girls
>>94186987china hasn't been elaborated on since Pacific Rim which included fluff about the Chinese state that is, and I mean this, the most objectionable possible timeline of events to the CCP. it was also boring as fuck from a player perspective lol 2077 seems like it has gone in a different direction because their Chinese are wealthy and organized and wearing suits. they haven't touched china at all in red. probably the right call
>>94186987Mostly not beyond furious competition of SovOil against Petrochem.
>>94178906Militech Wyvern>Arbitration, lawsuits, settlements - these measures carry less weight in a world where corporate disputes are often fast-tracked to resolution through sabotage and assassination. For the prudent corporate employee, it's wise to arrive at any arranged business meeting in a suit made from reinforced polymers with a pistol tucked in the belt. Even then, most expect that the other side likely hasn't shown up empty-handed either; such naivete is often enough to get you killed. For those business people seeking an edge in negotiations, Militech offers the Wyvern drone. When deactivated, it fits conveniently into a briefcase which can be concealed easily under a limo seat or in the corner of a conference room. When activated, it can turn a stubborn business partner into an obedient lapdog... or a bloody heap on the floor.(from the wiki)As for stats it's a NET Drone Tier 1, and a Air DroneUpgrades:>TUp Mimic FormTransform in one round from briefcase into flying drone>Weapon MountSmarted HSMG with Drum Mag, EQ obviously since it's Militech>Basic Combat AICN 10 is good, because it has Smart Ammo it's like it attack twiceSo 1K for core, 1,5K for weapon, 2K for mimic (including upgrade) and 1K for both the mount and AI. So a 5500eb it's the next evolutionary step from the tacticool umbrella. Tech Upgrade combat number to 12 if you want clear numbers and the cost raises to 6K.No HP or SP upgrade, so it has like 15 HP total, can be downed with a single shot, but it's fun watching players seethe when they try to snatch a militech executive only to see four of their briefcases suddenly become combatants. Now imagine, if you were to make a Militech Griffin, It'd be a serious player, would need more HP and SDP so probably swap HSMG with Grenade Launcher (retain the attachments) and add Heavy Duty (30HP total) and whichever plating you want, I'd prefer 15SP with -4 MOVE. It's a heavy hitter anyway. Replace Mimic with CN14 AI.

>>94187689a named NPC without implanted contraceptives? also amazing that no matter how good you make an NPC, without remembering anti glare and lowlight clever players can just gangbang him with with cheap smoke/flashbang grenades
>>94187764>a named NPC without implanted contraceptives? That's how you know it's a bad guy :)>>94187689Sooo, what exactly is this hell swarm? Is this a cloud of bots that cut you? Is it gas? How does it ablate SP if it attacks as a poison? If it's gas why cannot filter it? If it's not gas how would your ability to resist pain/pharma would affect the damage? What the fuck?Anyway, good boss, glad to see they finally introduced a IV tier encounters.>Combat Number is 16So KillBook was wrong after all.
>>94187946it says on the tin mate, it's >nanomachines, sondon't ask me about the resist thing, the devs treat that skill as a constitution saving through. single most important skill in the game. I can't even get myselfad about it, just note whether or not I need to change it also, he's not alone. he turned some girl into a cyber dog who literally worships him because idk. haven't read that mission much
>>94188017>he turned a girl into a cyber dogI had an idea for a dog being turned into a fullborg human once. Fun concept.
>>94187946So the core rulebook bloodswarm for defending static locations costs 10,000eb and is 3d6/DV 15 resist drugs/torture. This is portable, can be potentially deployed 5+ times and the two simultaneous effects are the superior bloodswarm (+1d6 damage, +2 DV, no immunity from nasal filters and bonus armor damage like an air pistol's acid) and a full heal to subdermal armor (aka the trauma response nanomatrix from Black Chrome, which is 1,000eb/2d6 HL loss per installation). I can't even imagine what this thing actually costs. It could honestly be somewhere like 30,000eb (assuming the player isn't constantly fighting to the death, just getting 2 swarms and 2 armor refreshes is pretty good). Once again I wish they'd just have a 'behind the scenes' look at what they do for the custom gear they feature in the adventures. Especially when 90% of this game has to be done personally by ref's. Also I still find it find it funny that the core rulebook presents itself as 'anything the NPC's can get access to, so can the players' but every published job has 'destroyed beyond repair' out the ass to keep the players from having it. It sucks because those players blame me for being a bad referee and it's the publisher, not me!
>>94189637yeah there's a real dissonance, they want video game bosses in a tabletop. mate it's a game with gear based progression, stop making gear they can't have
there's also a bit of a forced meme going on in Hope Reborn. Doomba. they say it fucking constantly but I don't think it's been in almost anything. it appears to mean "dickhead"
>>94189637>>94189697Destroyed beyond repair feels so video gamey. I like to restrict the good shit typically as being cutting edge rare stuff but having everything self destruct after a fight is so stupid. It almost feels like a rule that is made for those lame ttrpg shows on youtube or something.I'm trying to justify buying it since I collect physical books and I'm a bit of a completionist but every time I look at the art or read parts of it my stomach turns.
>>94191017I like it honestly, I went into this expecting to dislike it but so far it's coming out on top for me. I'll read all the adventures and try to give them honest ratings but this is definitely not danger gal dossier. probably one of the better things they've put out so far.I've often complained that red is saccharin sweet and pushes the players to be goody two shoes and the NPCs are all puppies in an orphanage. But here it feels more organic >there's a minor hostage situation and if you resolve it peacefully the local gardeners won't appreciate it>starts with you roughing up an XBD dealer, his entourage WONT fight to the death>Maelstrom are slavers>you are sent to kill someone for revenge at one point >red chrome legion are actually not completely stupid, now explicitly new nazis >you can save a corpos life but no one, not his friends nor the locals, care very much either way, and the locals were just happily watching him die slowly.>bozos are just doing their regular prank thing, desueven the saving gay kids stuff Marianne does isn't some front or centre exercise in street preachingbut Im still just starting to read it, each job is actually a lot meatier than anything was in Tales. even if you don't change anything this is probably 10 sessions of stuff. and god people talk unnaturally sometimes
>>94191597I habitually reskin things all the time when I do run games so it's not the worst thing, everything from the look, style and narrative always has an ultra anime weeb filter regardless of the source material so I just use characterization and art as a base most of the time. You can write wholesome chungus stuff, I'm not opposed to it at all and I'm not an edgelord (all the power to my edgelord friends though) but the way they do it sometimes makes even me want to vomit and I'm a power of friendship Saturday morning cartoon storyteller by nature.I actually liked DGD because it's a handy reference for reskinning any example in the book for any npc I want. I turned the they/them tranny into a regular she/her tranny though, I'm not opposed to troons by any means in cyberpunk but from a natural speaking stance they/them pronouns are so fucking obnoxious and fucks with my head.I wish they'd hire better artists though, the ultra watered down corpo art style is so fucking lame. I'll give Marianne an ugu moe face and huge fat tits with a horse cock before I describe her like she's portrayed in the fucking book. So sick of ugly shit.
>>94189736I think I've read doomba in one of the 2077 books.
>>94191781>I actually liked DGD because it's a handy reference for reskinning any example in the book for any npc I want. That's exactly what it's for as far as I can tell, and I mean I think that's a legitimate use of the book. The listed characters have bios but you can just throw that shit out and use them as statblocks for more interesting enemies whenever need be. I also appreciate it offering examples of reflavoring roles, like the Media Interpol agent or the Zoner lawman who calls other Zoners for backup, or the leader of the Piranhas functioning as an Exec.
>>94191941I personally hate it for exactly that reason. I don't think red needed a monster manual but it definitely needs a book outlining the fluff, territory and activities of various gangs, organisations, corps etc in RED. RED in general needs way more setting fundamentals than anything else
>>94192061I agree, I've been shrieking for the Night City 2045 sourcebook for months and I'll be pissed if it's not the next major release, and even more pissed if it doesn't go into enough detail like that.DGD is a decent GM aid but I don't think it's worth the money, especially since it's more of an advertisement for that skirmish game than a proper product.
>>94192373desu if nothing else the new campaign book has a lot of stuff about night city as a place in the red. worth pirating for that alone
>>94192061>>94192373>>94193246Wasn't there a 2077 source book planned? I can't imagine they'd do that first before 2045, right?
>>94193795It is planned but I'm sure it's not coming out until after a lot of other books.
>>94192373I can't imagine NC45 NOT being the next book. Sure, Rusted Chrome will probably be cool. I can always go for more vehicle options and upgrades, but it doesn't make any sense to release a book that will, at most, provide some detail about the Reclaimed Perimeter (admittedly, the most interesting thing they've done with the setting circa 2045) before doing a book about the main setting of the game, especially given that, and I cannot stress this enough, a nuclear bomb wiped out the entire city center and collapsed part of the city into the ocean. I feel like, maybe, we should talk about that a little.
I wanna do a supermarket cyberpsycho who's got a borged out shopping cart, and hooked up to gun turrets in the store. Then, when the PCs are done, they also have to get around MaxTac one way or another. How should I handle the shopping cart? Make a very fancy vehicle? And yes it's inspired by dead rising https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNeZJ7hOirY

>>94194276it'll be rusted chrome and NC45 next year, not sure the precise order and I'm not sure they know. but given their general proclivities both will come between June-october. I think rusted chrome is probably more likely to be first but idk
>>94193795>>94194813Why are they so hesistant to put out a 2077 sourcebook? Something to do with CDPR being cunts or do they just hate the setting? They gotta realise that a 2077 book will sell way better than anything they can come up with for the Red setting.
>>94195241Some people actually like Red, and it's probably more people than would make the jump to TTRPGs just because a 2077 book exists. Also, fuck 2077.
>>94195241RED was like number 3 or 4 best selling book in 2023 in USA, behind DnD and Pathfinder.
>>94191017>>94189697I give them the gear if they deserve it by creative actions, but it still will be broken so they have to spend effort to use a high tier gear. That said, I have to keep reminding them they have a Tech npc to fix stuff like these. I don't know how, but to them 'damaged' still means 'completely unusable'.
>>94195241I think they were just clueless and a bit, ah... they're not really in tune with the ideas of timing or market awareness, and they work slowly. frankly, they're also boomers technologically, who don't seem to understand what an app is. most of all they love to strike while the iron is cold. this new 2077 rulebook/sourcebook will be coming out 3 years after phantom liberty, 4 years after edgerunners premiered and 6 full years after 2077 the game came out.but I mean, the NCRed book will be coming out 5 years after red launched so it's certainly not just 2077 that they're sluggish to keep up with
Not satisfied with the other tools I used my bread and butter to make a sprawl map. Then once I was done I realized I could have made it in the older version of the program where the lighting wasn't shit.
>>94196730>I have to keep reminding them they have a Tech npc to fix stuff like these. I don't know how, but to them 'damaged' still means 'completely unusable'.Holy shit, I have the same problem. >>94195241CDPR are cunts so that's part of it
>>94199148I suspected they might be when they released a cyberpunk tabletop boardgame. no mention of RTL anywhere and RTL has notably not commented on it. seems a bit off to start encroaching on RTLs turf as it were, I had assumed the license they received would preclude that kind of thing. I suspect Mike signed a lot away to them...
>>94199866From what I know, they straight up own the rights to the setting now. The fact that they bought them and didn't even include any of the fun stuff from the tabletop really annoyed me. It's like there was no reason to use a pre-existing setting at all
>>94200162wouldn't surprise me since uh, CDPR has their logo on even the RED products. hope Mike at least worked out a good deal for royalties because it seems like CDPR really got the better deal here

>>94196314>>94196702I'd argue Red owes alot of it's success to 2077 popularising the brand as a whole. 2020 would've remained an obscure ttrpg if not for the vidya.
>>94200162>>94200870Which also makes me wonder if CDPR will ever do anything with Red's setting. I actually wouldn't mind seeing their intepretation of it. Phantom Liberty does reference Red a bit.

I've been reading through more and more of Hope Reborn. specifically, I read the heistpros:>actually sets up multiple ways for you to attack the problem>good maps, thorough schedules, a 3 day time limit, and plenty of fleshed out NPCs to exploit>actual physical objects being stolen, requiring a getaway>NOT reliant on the stupid oceans 11 flashback crapCons:>the why of the heist is stupid >>hey we don't have any special ganic liquor, our buddy had 6 of the rarest possible bottles of liquor stolen so go get those backno but seriously, why would you want this ultra rare liquor for a bar? it includes shit like the last Kentucky bourbon ever made that you'll obviously never serve to a bar patron.also, the job giver is a super ultra master thief, which to me kind of creates a moment where belief has to be suspended - why are We the ones planning this and not her? and, finally, you're literally stealing liquor from a fancy liquor bank, but only a handful of bottles that they stole from a friend. Why not just steal more if these are supposed to be for the bar? overall a good mission that kind of has a problem with the Why and Why Us of it, and which lacks a connection to the people of the forlorn hope. which so far seems like a running theme of the adventure
>>94204238Much better than the basegame, but I honestly find it made me more sad about how bad the basegame was. I'd just play the dlc if you can and ignore the main quest
I wanna run my games a bit more flexibly. Does anyone have a resources they use quickly in a game? Like if players start a fight at their discretion, normally I have a battlemap prepared for planned encounters, but obviously if they decide they hate this guy I can't plan that out. I'm playing RED, by the by
Okay, I've now read the entirety of the Hope Reborn adventureit's unironically the best thing put out for red so far and I don't think it's even close. My expectations were in the gutter and I was really pleasantly surprised.I would absolutely add a few side gigs to it, use the real estate agent more, and have the players do more more for the forlorn hope before the inciting action of the first adventure, though. And I think it's biggest flaw is that it doesn't ultilize the staff and the regulars of the forlorn hope enough - that was the biggest strength of the original. However there's a lot to like. a strong sense of place, a variety of job types, twists, plenty of ways to fail, a tone that feels more in line with cyberpunk than the twee stuff in dgd or tales, lots of combat encounters that can actually be properly challenging, a variety of locations throughout the city that feel realized, and a strong enough narrative through line. also, lots of useful GM tools and there's a lot of skillchecks, including for less common skills like tactics, and so many maps. But if the party lacks anyone with demolitions a few jobs will have punishing moments, and electronics/security tech is pretty damn common.I would definitely go ahead and download this if you were on the fence, if nothing else there's a lot here that you can cannibalize for your own stuff. I'm thinking I might run it myself with some tweaks soon. I'll write a full blow by blow review if anyone wantsalso: not all the art is bad, which makes the use of the really attrocious art for a lot of the big features even weirder

The final job of hope reborn is honestly brutal if you decide to go with guns blazing. the second to last job could be tough but the last one is just harsh. You can make a lot of eurobucks though >trudge through hot zone, take 3 random hotzone event rolls, almost all of which do notable damage on failed checks or minor damage without the right gear>forced to take one final perception check or deal with slip table>fight a number of pic rel guards equal to party size, who have probably prepared an ambush>Then go into a dark death maze full of traps to be hunted by Skippy in pic rel>Finally, go up to fight Ripper (optionally with automated turrets of course) who is likely aware you're coming, in very cramped rooms. >he will try to escape and if he does he will destroy the entire building you are in the seventh floor automatically, 1 minute later.>all of this is back to back to back with no real break between >4k eb each and lots of opportunities for fat l00t absolutely TPK territory here for those who aren't prepared but quite satisfying to see a real combat challenge in Red. also nice to actually go to the hot zone

So tech upgrade would be 5K for materials + probably 5K labour. 15K for a ROF4 seems balanced, given how Kleaver is 1K.About that minmaxer, he uses drone rules from same author, and he has stacked enough bonuses and skills to ignore split action (-5 at his rank) in almost all, but life-death situations. So essentially, since his companion drone has a EQ katana, he's got 4ROF 3d6 melee already.Cant wait for dude to upgrade his drone with two arm slots and mount mantises there, lol.>Anon, wouldn't that be about 20K?It would, what about it? Good thing is, that he starts to be a menace at the start of the fight, not in the middle, or some bulshit where a dude bleeding out with a dozen of breneka sized holes just starts to fight harder because reasons. >>94210724not sure if that's a bad thing. It's a badass political thriller.
>>94210724The game rapidly stops being about punk street life in the main story, too. You basically get everything up to the big heist, and then after that you're in the big leagues for the main story and everything is consequently higher power/stakes.There aren't really any big cyberpunk vidya I can think of that stuck to low power "punk street life", now that I think about it. All three modern Shadowrun games went for apocalyptic events, 2077 is what it is, Deus Ex is all in on the high level conspiracies... You only really get street level in the TTRPG sphere and in a handful of older or niche games.(For the record, I didn't finish Phantom Liberty, but I liked what I saw of it. Did finish the base game - just burnt out from too much in too short a time to finish PL.)
>>94210944the story missions are just infiltrating corpo facilities and gang hideouts.
What's the deal with the media role and rumors? Is the idea that non-media can hear vague rumors but only media characters would get rumors with a lot of details like exact locations, times, people involved, etc? Or that media get rumors for free when just hustling while other roles might need to dedicate time to hitting the Street?
>>94211317Media feels kinda halfbaked desu.
>>94213271I feel you. Perhaps the best compromise would be general rumors are just the referee trying to bait the crew into doing the jobs he wants without a lot of specifics (rumor has it that a new maelstrom ripperdoc is setting up in the old combat zone, but his security isn't up yet) but media rumors are a lot more detailed (the new maelstrom ripperdoc at 600 Neon Boulevard is expecting a delivery of 1,000€$ in cyberware in 3 days at 8pm, he'll have light protection) or focused on what the media wants (such as the media gunning for a corrupt politician and one of their former aides is ready to spill the beans). I'm also writing a short gig and the media can get rumors that unlock alternate solutions to the steps in the job.
>>94211317Aight let me break it down. The answer to your question is: Both.Firstly, the passive Rumor checks keep their toes in the water at all times. Twice a week might seem infrequent, but you don't have to do anything for them other than have your Media rank.Secondly, while it might not seem like much, active Rumor rolls have set DVs for Media that cap out at 21. While your Ref may throw circumstantial penalties on it, it's not hard to hit and it guarantees a piece of evidence. So how does that all tie together? You basically have two kinds of Media that can be built out of this system that work really well (though there's no real separation between the two): The Reporter and The Detective. Both do the same thing (Get rumors, follow up on rumors with investigation, get evidence, present evidence to an audience) but one publishes to the public for a broad effect, while the other presents their findings to key individuals (especially their superiors) to get them to enact action. If you hit even Rank 5, a well researched investigation can nab a 70% chance of causing sweeping effects in NC (provided your Ref is throwing you the bone you're owed); we're not talking lowering the price of kibble, we're talking about taking down local heads of major corporations or knocking flat smaller corps.Like Tech though, Media relies on the GM being willing to engage with your subsystem.
>>94211317the idea is more than they have cultivated sources, they keep an ear to the ground and are actively looking for rumours, and people might come to them with things they feel are worth reporting on, as their rep grows
>>94210944I think the Deus Ex games are probably the best in terms of low-to-the-ground even though you do shit like infiltrate area 51 while being one of the most advanced cyborgs ever, just because you spend a lot of time actively interacting and scrounging. The minutiae of the environments actually feels very important to the gameplay and I approach them slowly and with focus. In cyberpunk 2077 I never felt like I needed to stay low to the ground because even from the start you're able to zoom around blasting dudes and it encourages you to do so. It's fun, but far, far from the feeling of lethality of the tabletop, which is a shame because things like the bullet ricochet mechanics would actually be very good if the levels were designed intelligently the whole time. I really wish it was a levels-with-hubs style game like Deus Ex, if they were gonna make their story instead of having it be a sandbox there was no reason to not do that
>>94210351That's fair. I just need to get better at preparing to improvise. Still, if anyone else has encounter generators I'd appreciate it
>>94213592I think the issue is they gave them these broad narrative powers instead of something more tangible that helps in the minute to minute gameplay. Rockerboy suffers from a similar issue.>>94213676>Like Tech though, Media relies on the GM being willing to engage with your subsystem.Techs are pretty straightforward tho. Yeah invention requires GM fiat to be useful, but everything else is pretty easy to understand and makes the tech the most useful party member in my experience. Medias on the other hand 100% rely on the GM and are useless otherwise.
>>94211317Another take on Media: there are certain roles that are easier, and certain that are harder to play. It's no brainer, that Solo, Lawman, Nomad and Medic are easier roles. Well, maybe medic need to use some thought to their actions, but not really. Then there's Fixer, Tech, Netrunner and Executive, these require some knowledge about game rules - fixer roams the economy, tech need to know prices, checks and times, netrunner have their own thing going on, and executive booktrack their dudes. And then there are narrative roles, so a Rocker, Media, whose have two things going on:>They have non linear growth (they share it with fixer, and maybe executive, kind of) where they become absurdly strong at lower levels, such as game explicitely stating that rockers are able to start a riot, and media could possibly topple (or rather shake) a major corporation making permanent changes in the world. Now, that's a really big playground, and it requires a good player and a good GM, as both of them need not to abuse their "ultimate" power to reshape the reality of the game. Media is a excellent plothook dude, a main character of a campaign, and quite possibly a teamleader. It's really fucking easy to come up with a reason of WHY would any other role accompany Media in their crusade and I'm not even going to list them, honestly if one cannot make them up they should probably not use Media whatsoever. What a Media has, that no one else has is the ability to pull the strings and lead the story - the emergent storyteling that you all are doing. I'd agree that without a GM Media are useless, and the fact is they can be replaced with an NPC in this instance.A good rule of thumb is to find a forever GM and get them to play media.
>>94217292That's fair, though other than jury rigging and skill increases, you just end up a different flavor of Fixer if you're just making and fixing shit for people 24/7.

>>94217453Not at all, it's my favorite role to play; but I could see novice Refs trying to clamp down on it like they might a Rockerboy or Media and that could be pretty bad suffering for a player.I guess going just by RAW with an uncooperative Ref there's still plenty to try and do, but it can turn into a laundry list if your fellow crew lean on you too much for 'mandatory' upgrades or a menu you can't afford to order off of if the Ref doesn't give you adequate work time.

>>94207519I like this one because it actually has that late 80s/early 90s cyberpunk feel which I fucking love
>>94220529So according to this wise anon>>94213676 you need to be rank 5+ as a media to start affecting real change (high level criminals arrested, laws passed) I wonder if media could work as a politician. But according to Danger Gal Dossier, which is a collection of a lot of NC's goodie-goodie characters, nobody is higher than media/credibility 4. That means that even if they talk the big talk about changing the world all they can do is small time crooks being arrested. If any of them want to affect real change they'd have to essentially do 8 average challenging jobs to buy into rank 5 (which I believe was 300IP), and that's 8 chances to be completely flatlined by a lucky gonk with a gunmart shotgun and a dream. The one NPC with credibility 6 is the puppet for Net45 who will get killed and replaced if she doesn't do what the execs say. So when people ask why Night City can't get any better it's because there are no medias to step up and publish the stories that need to be told, hence internal consistency. At least in my eyes.>>94220931Yeah it's not good. Don't forget that according to CEMK Adam Smasher is almost a century old, but he still doesn't have Solo 10.
Have there been attempts by the other corps to "make" their own Adam Smasher? Or at the very least do any of them have anyone who's on a similar level?
>>94221824>I wonder if media could work as a politicianThe one usually used is Rockerboy.
>>94221872We need a new corporate report for high level gameplay so badly.
>>94221951I see what you mean. I sort of see Rockerboy/Media as two sides of the same social change coin. Rockerboy gets immediate results but Media can get permanent change codified into law. Both have merits. And instant impact probably matters a lot more to edgerunners, especially when rockerboys can turn neutral potential enemies into fans.
>>94222556Perhaps Rockerboy and Media should have been rolled into a single Agitator role. You use skills to create the desired effect but the core skill is Crowd Power or something.
>>94222746>>94222556I don't get this boards opinion on media, it's a very interesting role and is quite atypical both in the game and in tabletop. there's also occasional grousing about Fixer and Rockerboyit's nice to have roles which engage with the system in ways that are tangential to blasting gonks, and media, fixer and Rockerboy are all very self motivated roles. perhaps the issue is that people are expecting GMs to be adversarial about using your role abilities, or maybe the issue is that people struggle with a role that will need to have a proactive stance from the player.
>>94222851Speaking of FixerIf anyone has some homebrew or ideas they'd like to share to improve their Role i'd love to see it. I'm generally unimpressed with what they do as written in RED.
>>94222937Fixer is a money making machine if you do your fixer deals right. Our fixer had enough money to buy himself two AVs, Jeep, McMansion, custom Malorian, and a borgbody. So it isn't that much about what you can do as fixer mechanically, but what money can buy you if you use mechanics right.
>>94222746What if Media and Rockerboy got headquarters upgrades to let each other tap into their short term/long term abilities? Media could get a pirate broadcast radio to try and coax their followers to commit crimes, and the rockerboy could attempt some long-term social change. I haven't looked at headquarters in a bit, but they didn't seem to mind letting roles like netrunner and medtech count as equal rank tech's. Maybe it's a once/month thing. >>94222851I just don't like how a lot of stuff in the rules is left vague. I personally have never gone to a black market to buy designer drugs, so I wouldn't know what difficulty value to set looking for a night market or what skill (Streetwise? Local expert?) or even how long it might take (which could be an issue if the crew needs to take extra time for the bonus +1 or are in a time crunch).
>>94223022I really don't think it's vague to be honest with you
>>94221872Militech has Morgan blackhand
>>94222937Fixer doesn't need improvements. They can meet with anyone, get the crew more cash, buy low, sell high, and get access to anything. If you're doing prep work or trying to eke out a little extra cash from your last heist, a Fixer is your best friend. It's honestly fucked up how many doors the fifth rank of Operator opens compared to most other Role Abilities. If your Fixer is underperforming, it's an issue of either an issue of the player or GM not understanding how they work.
>>94223196I think people just don't understand what a fixer is. a fixer is not the face, and he's not even the money guy. he's the perpetually ambitious. if you play a fixer be should be getting the names and number of everyone you interact with. he should be rolling streetwise and street deal constantly to see if he has an in. if you bribe a guard to look the other way, he should swap numbers so they can develop a more lucrative partnership. that edgerunner crew you ran into doing a job the other day? he should call them and offer a cut of the pot or some cyberware to run interference for you. You need to wack some dude I'm the hot zone? he should find a guy willing to rent a combat AV. he should be trying to do favours for maxtac and politicians so he can call them later.he knows a guy, ultimately, or he's the guy that other people know

>>94225675rules as written it has a few problems>extremely slow progression>very punishing IP cost scale>skills and role ability come from the same pool>did I mention how fucking slow the progression is RAW?>RAW, you are supposed to reward players for pigeon holeing themselves rather than branching out, IE reward minmaxers for minmaxing but not RP and vice versa>no published adventures have any guide on what role level is appropriate for the jobs nor what IP rewards are appropriate >technically, your players get more IP for taking longer to do everything if you haven't run into issues it's because you're running one shot/short adventures or you GM is fudging things.admittedly role levels 8-10 should be legendary achievements, but even 5 or 6 are fucking nightmares. >>94225944There are three ways you can do this>positivist: IE they believe their is a better world possible and have conceived of both what that would be and how to achieve those aims>Nihilist: IE they are only aiming to destroy the current order or players within it. 2077s silverhand is essentially this >Centrists, for want of a better word. these are the people who aren't seeking to change the world writ large but make the one they're in better, often in a narrow way. or keep it from getting worse. Netwatch in 2077 and it's original 2020 version both fit, as does section 9 and Firewall from eclipse phase Positivists could take many forms. you could have a nationalist trying to restore the USA to a united polity and re-establish it's control over corporations, Loyalists to a particular political faction or particular corp, Out and out fascists who believe either in some form of ethno nationalism, anti-cyberware or perhaps simply a Caesar figure to end the chaos of the republic, or some sort of socialists, libertarians, or anarchist revolutionaries. The point is they have a Positive goal and a strategy for achieving it. Section 9 often had political goals but they were mostly working to protect the status quo, and they and netwatch are probably the clearest examples of Centrist political actors. They are loyal to the State or powers that be, but seek in their own ways to limit excess and uphold what they see as their mandates to protect Japan/the world.Nihilists don't necessarily need a long term strategy, they tend to believe in short term plans that will spiral into spontaneous uprisings or cause a collapse. Think Occupy, Ted K, bin Laden, the joker or 2077s silverhand. They just want to see (a part of) the world burn.figure out where you'd want to sit on this spectrum and then go from there. it'll also depend where on the timeline you sit and what part of the world
>>94225944
>>94226056I gravitate between all 3.
>>94226080well then, if they're cops, I'd probably start the first arc or two as them first experiencing the "normal" operation of their organisation, then coming up against the contradictions. it's unjust, it's inefficient, it's unfair, it's a puppet, it's toothless. whatever. let the players naturally feel like they can't do what they want to do because of the status quo. the next part will be about them organizing, figuring out what they want to Do About It, and then manuevering to seize control over their organisation (if only their segment of it, or you can be quite bold with it and let them become the boss). and then you move to them actually getting to flex their muscles and try to change things, and all the consequences that come with it.An example is say they are a classic SVU, NCIS type. they nail a local trafficker. feels good. then they want to nail whoever was organizing him. they get evidence that points to a certain corp or politician and suddenly it all gets shut down. obviously the boss is on the take. What will they do? or you can skip all that and have them play maxtac or spooks with a lot of operational freedom and a mysterious backer. maybe they're part of the FBI/CIA/FIA and are working for the American government to pull ops and invesigations that help bring NC, corps or the free states back under the thumb of Washington. If you don't want to give them a direct sympathetic boss figure (like the old man in GitS), exec is a role that perfectly fits an ambitious team lead, Media fits an investigator, and Fixer fits an experienced beat cop or corrupt cop.

>>94225944>how would a group of runners try to bring down the Dystopia of Cyberpunk 2020 in a meaningful way? You're thinking way too big. Bringing down the whole system is impossible something for two-digit role abilities to work on. The average cyberpunk protagonist's concerns are himself, his close associates, and the area he lives and/or works in. Start by throwing wrenches in there and see how it evolves. After all, there's no guarantee your players are going to stay clean cops, going dirty is always an option.
>>94226273>not the case>give them IP if they stick to their play style
>>94226056I'm thinking the runners lean towards a positivist outlook on things, Their is a better world but it is choked by powerful instituitions that refuses to yield under most other pressures that have tried to reform things for the better, worse even they have corrupted said reformers to their own ends. my big issue with their plan is that in globalist age a corporation can just change locations, stock will rise and fall, people can die but none of this things affect systemic change. The idea was very much inspired by pic related in the core book for 2020.>figure out where you'd want to sit on this spectrum and then go from there.Heres what I've got so far, the group of runners are effectively endgame runners, chrome and money aren't an issue and the Fixer and Corp have both taken measures to ensure a very minimal profile is available for tracking and whatever Cybermods were acquired didn't induce psychosis Yes this was likely prohibitively expensive. politically most of them sit on the liberterian side of the spectrum in some capacity and feel a need to work towards the objective weither its to keep a fellow runner alive, burn down the system or try to give humanity a better future.>>94226121Yeah the plan was basically to have it start with the Cops running as part of a City/Municipal (Not corporate) taskforce that is horribly underfunded and disorganised, they'd have to navigate the chain of command & bureaucracy, Corp Influence and the casual violence of a city thats civic life is rotting away.>exec is a role that perfectly fits an ambitious team lead, Media fits an investigator, and Fixer fits an experienced beat cop or corrupt cop.Yeah I was basically thinking of doing that for the classes to help players build backgrounds, as for bosses I figured of taking an example from the wire and have less overt sympathy the further up the chain they have to interact with.
>>94226512Here's the runners so far, I'm not overly familiar with the cyberpunk setting since I've mostly played with people who haven't focused too deeply on abiding by the Canon so I know some of this won't mesh with it.>''Rebel'' - RockerA delinquent rich girl turned punk singer, basically the ''Fire'' of the runner group. Really just wants to see the world stop hurting so much.>''Dixie'' - SoloAn ''acquired'' experimental Android the team stole from a high tech corp lab when the runners were investigating the disappearance of homeless youth which turned out to be trial runs for larger corporate assassinations. It's basically a nascent person motivated more by the concept that the runners are a ''Family'' and that they gave it a choice to be something other than a killer.>''Kitsune'' - NetrunnerA victim of Illegal chop shop operations, she was used & abused in the worst ways possible before being left for dead as little more than a skull and spine. She would be dead if runners hadn't found her.The damage she suffered has left her mentally crippled and more machine than human, she lives as a Hikkimori perpetually engaged in the online world and cannot interact with people otherwise and any forced physical interaction have a high risk of inducing psychosis via trauma.>''Atlas'' - MediaAn old school reported, a combination of pissed off Corps and brutal investigations saw his life and career vengefully destroyed by them. A recovering alcholhic he's motivated by a long term perspective on the rot that has decayed urban life in Cyberpunk. >''Cutty'' - NomadA ex-gang member who ''got out'' of the street life and tried to be more, unfortunately escaping intergenerational poverty is hard and even worse when you have the most minimal education possible.>"Joe" - Fixer/CorpThe planner of the group and basically a ghost to anyone who's tried to look into him, he basically believes in a hard reset since everything is so monumental.
>>94226354>You're thinking way too big.Yeah I get that it's too big for the system to handle but that's why I'm here I want it to feel like as the antagonists goal it has veracity.>there's no guarantee your players are going to stay clean cops, going dirty is always an option.Good point, given one of them loves to tech up to the extreme and make deals to kind of power game and the others a goddamn unpredicatable gremlin its well and truly likely to go sideways.
>>94226500Nigga, can't you read? It's plain english "give them IP according to what playstyle would give them most IP".

>>94229904havent really thought about her age, just 'grandma'. and yeah she also has rejuv
>>94209718My character is largely drone focused, so I've made two so far.1. A micro turret attachment for medium and heavy pistols. It takes up 3 upgrade slots to turn them into a fully autonomous wirelessly networked weapons. They have magnetic or pneumatic bases to attach to metal or concrete/wood/plaster/etc respectively. In combat, they act first, with their only action to be targeting the closest infrared human-shaped heat source and then firing at them at the end of the initiative. Targets can be blacklisted or whitelisted by the operator with RFID tags or if they're tracked as heat-sources. Pistols with this attachment are considered 1 level of quality lower than they normally are, cannot be fired manually and cannot reload or unjam themselves. Stun Guns and Air Pistols that normally couldn't accept an attachment are treated as if they have 3 more slots only for the purposes of this attachment.2. A disposable surveillance drone that can be fired by shotgun or grenade launcher. The slug or grenade mount splats against a surface with a hardening adhesive thermite gel (more on that in a moment), and with a small camera and microphone records audio and video nearby. It stores that information on a small onboard chip, or beams it as a laser to a receiver to keep longer recordings. The drones are set up to relay the beams and can even bounce them off reflective surfaces. To preserve battery life, the drones 'sleep' when they detect no nearby activity, or they can be scheduled to wake for specific periods (or in response to a connection of a data beam). For their final trick, if they're disturbed or when their battery runs out, they self-destruct, igniting the thermite to cook themselves into slag to destroy any evidence.

>>94237866RED is not a level based system. With the massive variety of improvement avenues open to players any short-term discrepancies in IP are minimal in effect.I think by the numbers I'm 250 IP ahead of the lowest IP character in our group (late joiner, so the GM is catching them up) and I think she's still probably better than me in a fight.
>>94225675A word of advice - award players from all 4 playstyles (and a fifth group IP), this way you'll reward them about a hundred points per session - never really understood why one should ever limit player acomplishments to the certain playstyles. I'm sure there's a reason to it, such as awarding for the best thing they've pulled out this session, and maybe sticking to certain roleplays, or certain styles. What seems to be a common problem for RED IP is, as >>94225865pointed out:>Extremely slow progressionif you stick to the RAW, you'll need 5 or sometimes more sessions for a single one of higher ranks>Sometimes even 30 session campaigns cannot reach a single rank 10, despite starting at rank 10IME most folks play to fullfill the from 0 to hero fantasy and would be dissapointed if they didnt reach their characters full potential>IP is a single pool for skills and "levels"Kind of wrong, more like a misunderstanding - because you do can jus buy skills in a form of chips, upgrades, cyberware and gear (I mean stacking bonuses), and as a matter of fact there are some traces in original rules on how to make items that boost role unique skills, such as microwaldo or whatever that headset camera was called. So yeah, it isnt a single pool of IP that can only progress character in three ways - all of them (role, skills, stats) can be boosted by being richer than plebs - truly a cyberpunk experience.>It rewards minmaxersKind of. Chargen treats skill points differently than character progression, sure, but other than that I see no problem. Worst case scenario just award them with 2100IP to progress their skills at the start of the game. This is the maximum number of IP points needed one would use on chargen.>players will get more IP for taking longer to do thingsI dont get it? Did they mean that taking longer time, and thus succeeding more often would reward for more IP?
>>94241577I think he's operating under the apprehension that players will drag their feet through games to get more sessions worth of IP between difficult tasks, which is frankly asinine. It frankly doesn't track because the IP system as is incentivizes doing stuff to be rewarded with IP each session.I think 100 a session seems like a lot though. If you want to speed along progression I think it'd just be appropriate to sum group IP rewards from finishing gigs with individual IP rewards, so you 'double dip' any session you get a job done.
I just had a goofy Halloween idea>businessman opens up spooky laboratory-based haunted house for October, then gets the idea to actually clean it up and lease it to real scientists/techs for the other 10 months of the year>some fired Biotechnica scientists are working on something twisted, in early September it breaks containment and hides under the rented labs>scientists quietly end lease without telling owner>when the haunted labs Halloween show begins, the Biotechnica monster attacks guests but not enough so there are just rumors, but nothing confirmed. If a monster doesn't make sense it could be an AI that snuck into the netarch security frame and waited for Halloween to cause some damage.
>>94233109Did you by chance mean Bonin Horse? That has the crew fighting a hostile Araska-sponsored terrorist submarine. >>94232471The crew's job is to scour some old pre-2020 Militech research domes off the coast of Night City looking for preserved medical/research gear for Hornet and my man Rex Royal. What happened was during 4CW the labs were attacked by an Arasaka sub, and the scientists couldn't get resupplies and were starving. An AI fleeing from the RABIDs offers to help by 'unlocking bonus Biotechnica foodstuffs' but in reality it was using the drones to scavenge bodies from the destroyed pods, and later on creating accidents to kill more scientists to feed the others. Now ready to go back to the surface, the AI waits for a salvage crew to come. It has two traps; the head engineer's excellent chainsaw popup cyberarm (with smartlink) and sp13 subdermal armor (with smartlink). It's cloned itself into both. The cyberarm has a secret quick-change mount that lets the whole arm pop-out and walk around on the hand while the chainsaw emerges from the bicep instead of the palm, and the nanites in the subdermal armor will eventually rip out into a swarm that looks like who they were installed into. And since both of these require neural implants for the full bonus, the players will be haunted by the AI too.As for traps and threats, there will be using the divesuits to move between the sub and the domes to find air pockets/preserved tech (or even a water-filled room but with sealed equipment) and old 2020 computers. I'm trying to come up with a system for a dome breaching and filling with water without it being too convoluted. I might just randomize everything (there was a breach, the water is now up to your knees and you have 100 minutes of air split between 4 crew left) rather than going the distance like Deep Space did. I'm not sure about animals, I always loved the shark things from KotOR 1.

>>94246440There are acrologies (and Zeniths in Stablade Battalion). You can see them on Home of the Brave maps. Some cities domed themselves, Helsinki for exemple did it.According to 2077 Worldbook, Maldives sunk by 2057 and they 5.1 meters above water, so if city is in the range, it might have domed. Not Venice tho, it canonically sunk.
>>94246440>>94249137there's three floating arcologies I remember, one made by Metacorp in the gulf, one off the coast of Galveston iirc just called like New Galveston, and one off the coast of Florida called Atlantis or something like that. first two are in home of the brave the other is in the nomad book (which sucks)

What I mean is - there's some space for new upgrades. I'd be very much obliged if some of you guys shared their ideas.

>>94254722>Agent Core>Saddle>Heavy Duty
>>94260229Being and addict is not cheap. Normal Synthcoke is 20eb and lasts only 4 hours. Assuming you sleep a little, an addict still needs 80 eb of Synthcoke a day to keep level, otherwise they'll be doing anything they can to get another hit.Players do gigs in game because you can't make the money you need to live comfortably otherwise without selling your soul to a corporation (for some definition of comfortable, and even then perhaps not). If we assume NPCs cannot earn more than PCs can of equivalent skill level (IE: Role ranks), then the maximum average hustle an NPC can hope for is about 216~ eb a week. You may notice a small math issue here.
>>94260490Most NPCs aren't Edgerunners. They have 9-5s so it's more likely that they make a more consistent income, with a higher floor and lower ceiling.
>>94262256The ones buying synthcoke to shoot people are not doing 9-5s, so we can cross that right off the list. Those that are are probably living paycheck to paycheck and among those most of them are probably in debt and barely paying off the interest (if they are at all).

An army of paranoid tweakers sounds pretty good when you don't already have an army that are not paranoid tweakers that you could buy better equipment with the same cash.

Or they made Nomads better by Nomad Access in Black Chrome, or gave wonderfull examples of a tech inventions in whatever Faisal (I bet it's a James character) made throughout the various installments. All this rambling (the second part of the multipost) is to prove my point, which is:>They started to play their own game, hence the "homebrew" they figured along the way was made as an expansion of original rules.Kind of good desu, but my first point still stands - RED was awfull at the begining (including booklets and such), and it's pretty good now.Cant wait to see it become great.
Hey DMs, how should I handle the players being wanted by the cops. Should it be a dice roll or should they pay to hide it or something else?
>>94274702>>94274669I'm amazed that the company putting out an early access tabletop rpg cares so much about physical print books. Imagine being the gonk who bought the 5th revision of the core rulebook and thinking that was it. >>94275485Honestly as the referee I think you handle enough so you deserve to let the crew's actions come back to haunt them instead of rolling for ncpd involvement every gig. The question is how bad is what they're wanted for? Is it just questioning or did they burn down an entire arcology? You could also keep it subtle for a while, like contacts ghosting the crew because they have a ncpd hound dog tailing them, and black market fixers refusing to work with them. If the crew is doing a job on site in NC and stays too long, even if it's an involved job and they're moving as fast as they can have the ncpd show up. This could be a great way to throw off crew's who are too good at stealth. As for getting rid of their wanted level, let crew's know it'll take time lying low. Perhaps they can hustle but roll twice and take the worst result, or if they're crafting they take a -2 penalty (complex task). This one is fun because it punishes the crew where they care: their pocketbook. After a month the ncpd will put their case on the back burner since there have probably been over a hundred new murders since, but the crew will have earned them a very pissed off detective who can show up here and there. As for bribery, you could have them meet a lieutenant or higher (this meeting alone might be worth 500€$ to the fixer who organizes it) and then pay off the lieutenant (whatever the crew can pay, 500€$/criminal would hurt) or do an involved job for free (1,000€$ difficulty so has some good fights and challenges). The crew could also infiltrate precinct #1 and netrun their central computer to delete their crimes.

>>94282562Lemme ramble a bit of my story of how I handled NCPD involvement. I'm a bit of mechanics fag, so for context I'll rely heavily on it, it's my thing.>Players made a assault on MaxTac, namely downed their AV and killed all squad of chromed the fuck out individuals, really hard battle>it ends up in NCPD forming a cordon of armed vehicles around the scene>one player fucking died, Nomad escaped in his AV, Sniper sneaked away (was outside the cordon), and Lawman somehow escaped through the cordon firstly surviving the attacks, and then miraculously rolling enough checks (it was athletics, concentration and stealth) to actually lose the tailingI turn to the one that died>Make a new character for next sessionTo the Nomad>NCPD tailing you werent able to catch up to your EXTREMELY tuned AV, but they sweep your camp and confiscated all your shit as evidence *wink* you will have a possibility to get them back next session (for context he was a clanless nomad, and we fluffed he get his upgrades/new cars from piles of rubble he dug out in the wasteland once he leveled up)To the Sniper>As time goes by, you're neither tailed, nor interrogated by NCPD, you'll continue on next session with a clean recordTo the Lawman>Through your cunning and skills you managed to lose the tail, you found yourself in the combat zone living among the worst of the worst armed only in your trusted drone (he multiclassed), your Katana and a badge that is nothing but a death wish. You lose all your NCPD cover, and cannot use your lawman role ability as you're now hunted by NCPD.>Check reputation table, rank 7 seems to fit the scale of their mayhem>Since you are familar with the procedures (he was a policeman) you're aware that bounty on your head will stay for about 7 months. During this time you'd better stay the fuck out of their sight. You will have a possibility to gain lawman ranks in a different organisation next session.<tbc>
<continue>So what did I do here? I used the narrative to take away something dear to them ie. the scrapyard, the badge, I made a little bit of mechanics about it (more on that later) and I gave them satisfying fluff to progress their story. BUT I made them a promise/foreshadowed that they will be able to regain their strenght, after all it's a major hero trope.About that mechanics:Lawman joined a gang, and was given the following deal>You may spend a week of downtime to increase your lawman rank by 1 instead of hustling>He had to work his way up their ranks to the point of obtaining his original NCPD rank (5) and could push further with IP as usualNomad was given a sidequest to finish some sidegigs to steal some of his shit, buy new tools and find a new location, it was all wrapped up in a single side session. Now, if you're curious (which I bet you're not) of why Lawman was given more love than rest of the team, the reason for this is the way how campaign was constucted.>There's a main plot, which we progress when all players are available>If we lack even a single party member we do side stories which may or may not take more than a single session>Each character get their side story to progressAnd the MaxTac flatlining was the major story point of our Lawman, as he later became a gang member (building his lawman rank back), got their protection and then full borged himself to make himself a terrified night city legend. At this point he's amassed more than 40K chrome in his (second) body. And the end of his story is yet to be seen.
>>94283149>>94282974>7 month bountyDamn, that's a lot longer than my month idea. Although I'd imagine real world crimes don't get forgotten immediately either. I looked up murder info for St. Louis MI (or at least looked at the Google AI summary) and it said that investigations could take 15 months, mostly due to DNA testing being slow (and also in 2022-2023 St. Louis detectives solved 56% of murders, highest since 2013, congrats guys). I also suppose that wouldn't be actively searching either.I do like your idea about earning back your role. I've got a scenario where the crew goes to Hong Kong to find the AI Masamura's heir, but since nobody should have HK experience everyone loses role abilities (except solo and netrunners, and maybe tech/medtech) and they could earn them back by hustling (first hustle would be roll twice, take worst result). The job was supposed to take only a month so I felt one hustle was enough, but maybe if I double the time to two months I could make it one bad hustle/rank recovered. I do need them to earn scraps from hustling because one of the ideas is the crew would be broke and basically scavenging. It fucking sucks how 90% of this game's community (not here though) treats 'game mechanics' like it's a naughty word. My players have wanted to run gangs and businesses since day one, NC45 should have those kinds of rules. Especially with the new HQ rules implying that the devs do not mind giving out tons of stuff for basically free (the car, the 20k€$ of drone stuff, rent reduction, etc).
>>94222746As a Media player, I can say that the Role doesn't really need new mechanics or bonuses, when my Ref describes how the city has changed because my character said something, that hits all the right buttons in my sense of self-importance.But it's a Role that depends heavily on the Referee. Other roles can get by with shitty GMs just by their mechanical goodies, but Medias require both the Ref and the Player to care about the story and the setting.
Why have 2 arm mounted machine guns? An anti-personnel weapon I get but the 14.7 (in boris' case) seems kind of superfluous when it has the rifle. Also when customizing one, anything to keep in mind? Any fun things I could do?And then with the specialty mini-packs, do those have to be mounted to the armor? The way some of them were worded they feel more like carry-ons, a grenade or something you tape to the outside of the armor rather than storing it internally
>>94287650Look at this beautiful fucker I love him so much!
Thinking about it, one of the issues I have with cyberpunk as a genre is that its central message is that society can't be changed, that the capitalistic neofeudalist dystopia cannot be challenged, and that you're a deluded idiot for even fantasizing about a better tomorrow. As with most punk fiction, it's so nihilistic that it refutes the central tenant of punk: to resist authority. The best you can do is feebly attempt to adapt to society and roll with the rain of punches from the elites on high, which is the most antipunk message I can think of.
>>94287650>>94288214What's the forward facing extension above and behind its head supposed to be?
>>94289931I dunno if that's a problem with all of cyberpunk as a genre, it's just emphasized a lot in Cyberpunk the brand. To be honest you can always change it, I guess.
>>94289931>The best you can do is feebly attempt to adapt to societyYou don't have to be Case, fitting into society, or Molly, riding the wave until death. You could be Turner, or Bobby, or Mona, or the Rastas, who all found ways to drop right out of society and do their own thing.
>>94289931Punk movement was co opted by capitalists. There is no central theme of cyberpunk as a genre, people can write whatever they want.
>>94290230This is actually an interesting question. I looked up the OG boris from Maximum Metal and they're not listed as having any external cyberware. in fact none of the five ACPA in MM have external cyberware EXCEPT the Spider (pic rel, gee I wonder why). I suspect that is the Boris's Visual Spec/Backup/Thermal Targetter, but however the old ACPA rules work it's not big enough to be considered bolt-on cyberware like old rabbit ears on the Spider. I guess I should note that the other ACPA don't have Sensory Extension, so it could also be that in MM it's explained that it's only available as external.
I got the Cyberpunk Edgerunners Mission kit and I like it a whole lot. Quickhacks seem to actually give hackers shit to do in combat, though I am kinda iffy on being able to hack into a neuroport in general, considering you can get down there and plant a virus, if I'm not mistaken, which can fuck anyone's shit up majorly..?In general, how do you guys handle netrunning? As-written or tweaked? It just seems kind of convoluted to do and I am already dreading trying to come up with net architectures for pretty much anything. Premade adventures seem to have shit like "oh yeah you can just hack shit" without needing to netrun and it baffles me.
>>94296828Also, to add to this, I love that they made "have friends" a gameplay mechanic. A lot of that booklet just seemed to fit into our modern social media-addicted terminally online culture as well.
>>94296828If I remember correctly, you don't get to plant a virus when quickhacking. You enter the target's mind and bypass any Self-ICE they have and then activate a quickhax. Quickhax is how you light them on fire, disable cyberware, or deal that sweet 3d6 brain damage. If you're worried about quickhacking, remember Self-ICE requires more actions and gets stronger with every install. One install is just a single DV6 but if you max out at 3 it becomes DV10 3 times, so a player would need to be role 10 to deliver a quickhax in a single turn, and DV10 no rerolls is a pretty annoying challenge because low rolls do happen. If a tech-upgrade to install airplane mode isn't acceptable, what about a tech-upgraded neuroport that imposes a -2 complex action penalty on anyone trying to netrun you?.Just be aware, the netrunning rules we got arethe baby rules, in the same booklet where Solo's only get an initiative bonus. I got no idea what they're planning for the 2077 book in 2 years. As for streamlining netrunning I've been very successful having Black ICE (haven't had netrunner vs netrunner combat yet) use static defense (instead of a wisp using 1d10+2, I just make it DV8, don't forget attack programs give +1 on the roll too). I've run netrunning during combat and it's interesting but as long as everyone is knows what's going on it's not too bad. Also try to use shorter but more exciting netarch's. The core rulebook said a 'simple' netarch would be 10+ floors, but in every published adventure since then they usually focus on 3-6 floors but perhaps with occasional double Black ICE. Netrunning isn't actually complex but the rules are badly explained. The alternative to netrunning is hacking using electronics/security skill which is a x2 skill, so cheaper than netrunning ranks. The issue is that hacking this way usually takes 5 minutes and requires a pretty high skill check up to DV17. Netrunning is faster.
More kibble.
>>94266794Night City 2045 sounding like a good book so far. I'm looking forward to it, Rusted Chrome, and Trauma Deck. Neighborhood generator sounds fun, and touching on the surrounding badlands of Night City is good to hear. I'd like to see more random generators for mundane and common things like small gangs and corps, bodegas, vehicles, like the Gunpath from Toggle's Temple.>>94274669I still get fucking mad every time I remember vehicle upgrades are only under the Nomad role ability section and vehicle stats and prices are only in the vehicle combat section. RED core needs a second edition that reorganizes everything, incorporates errata and some of the more core DLCs, and fix the fucking typos.
>>94302786Augmented Reality would probably help you out with cyberpunk city stuff, I don't think it had a gang generator but had a cyberpunk individual generator.>>94296828Do you have any more netrunning questions?
Low traffic.
>>94307195It's always like that outside of the DLC/Book day
>>94297098>Just be aware, the netrunning rules we got arethe baby rules,I really hope they don't change netrunning too much other than rebalancing the Quickhacks a bit so the lower tier ones aren't completely useless like they are now. Maybe also tweak how ICE and kicking out runners works too. The penalty for getting kicked out is way to steep and ICE feels far too easy to beat if you got 1, but far too punishing if you stack it.Part of me thinks that the full 2077 system is going to be just as much of a mess as the Red system. Red has very simplistic combat rules but a whole section dedicated to a minigame usually only one player participates.I really don't get it. Why does playing a hacker have to be so complicated and create so much extra work for the GM when every other class, even ones with unique mechanics, resolve problems with a couple of skill roles.
>>94309535>The penalty for getting kicked out is way to steep and ICE feels far too easy to beat if you got 1, but far too punishing if you stack it.What's the penalty for getting kicked out? Not being able to hack the same person again for an hour unless they've got Black ice via a cyberdeck?
>>94309535the problem with quick hacking is that James hates fun, so for some reason you have to roll to be detected, slowing things down, and then the moment you actually use a quickhack you're detected anyway. and because of the skills involved, when they do roll to boot you out of their mind, they're almost certain to succeed, so you'll probably only ever get one shot to hack them. no idea who decided that rolling a role level vs stat+skill was even remotely fucking fair. even the most brainless mook should be able to kick you out
I've played red once and only once. like literally one time cause the group kinda fell apart. I've been curios about 2020 though. to those who've played both which do you prefer?
>>94312748I play RED but run a lot of the 2020 modules, especially altered reality.
>>94312772I've read most of red's sourcebook so I know how to play for the most part, whats the difference between the two? why even go back to 2020 if red is a more updated version
>>94313039The two are very different games. 2020 is significantly more crunchy in design. RED is not so much updated as it is reworked, simplified, and streamlined to be more accessible to newcomers.
>>94313056guess I'll read 2020 and try to find a game online, if it's that different I'll look into it, so If I like it betterdo you prefer 2020 bc it's more advanced?
>>94309633>Not being able to hack the same person again for an hour unless they've got Black ice via a cyberdeck?Pretty much. Also there's nothing about Black ICE in the netrunning section of the EMK. Just the Quickhacking rules and a short section about hacking devices without any rules about how to actually do it. Not even a "refer to corebook page X." The EMK is really fucking half assed.>the problem with quick hacking is that James hates fun, so for some reason you have to roll to be detected, slowing things down, and then the moment you actually use a quickhack you're detected anyway. The should've stated that the intial jacking in roll was unnecessary unless you're trying to stealth hack someone or setting up a hack for next turn. Jacking in exists for action economy reasons, but realistically if the Netrunner was under fire they would be spamming hacks and not really concerned with being detected. But yeah, Netrunning suffers from the same balance issues that affects base Red. Everything is either completely useless or completely busted with very little middle ground.
>>94312772How hard is translating them between the games?
Is mounting 30 rockets worth of launchers on an ACPA too much? Also this is probably just my gear autism but most models having arm mounted weapons irks me since a lot of them also carry additional guns. How are you supposed to use those wrist rockets if you're holding an autocannon?
>>94314891>How are you supposed to use those wrist rockets if you're holding an autocannon?Let go with the hand you're going to fire rockets from, fire rockets, return to two-handed grip.
Drones & Puppeteers updateHoly shit, is this thread still going?>>94254722Hell yeah it does.New stuff>Tier III upgrades are now gated behind Rank 9, not 8>Upgrade naming is now standardized with Bonus X, or Basic/Advanced/Superior X if an upgrade have tiers >New upgrade: Radiation AbsorbentF117 your drone. Funny effect if paired with Optical Camo.>Role Ability BFF changes>ConstructorThey can now explicitly ONLY FABRICATE their drone cores/upgrades once they reach a certain rank. So it's severely downgraded compared to a Tech. Now sure if I've nerfed it too much, but the game will tell in december.>Black MarketYou can now source both upgrades and cores. Note, that you can source less than you can fabricate.>reststays the same, aside from some minor corrections it's all the same.>CatalogueGM notes are now more elaborate and comprehensible. I did my best, stay creative.Cant wait for NC45, we desperately need a good lore book.On the bright side, the Black Monk translated the ToTR like a month ago, good read.
>manga copying Shadowrun and Cyberpunk? How do you feel about that?
>>94177536I unironically hate how many booster gangs are cosplayers with guns. Imagine your buds say "Hey man, we're gonna dress like this 100-year-old clown and kill some people, what do you say?"
>>94318957I understand in the sense that there are an abundance of them, but I think they're pretty fun.
>>94318982I get that Cyberpunk is basically Gangs of New York in the Future, so it makes sense, and it's easy to throw in... like a Tarzan street gang of loin-clothed bodybuilders who use grappling hooks to swing across the city. But also, it leads to the bigger issue with the franchise and the genre as a whole which is that people don't understand what cyberpunk IS or what it is about compared to something more apparent genres like Space Opera or Space Western.
>>94318155Cyberpunk 2013 began publication in 1988. Ghost in the Shell and Shadowrun began production in 1989. Cyberpunk manga and cyberpunk TTRPGs have been contemporaries since their inception.
>>94319122Also, the film Akira came out in 1988. Akira the manga began publication in 1982. It was contemporary with Gibson's Burning Chrome and Blade Runner. Cyberpunk copied pretty much everything that came before it, including anime.
Night City feels like a fragile bubble of zeitgeist. That eventually the Edgerunners who were veterans of the 20th century, South America and the Crash will die and the corps and governments will wear themselves out or reassert themselves. And it sort of does with 2025 ending NC’s two decade fungal boom years. But no, it keeps going for decades and decades.
>>94319153That's just because CDPR were too lazy to make new characters, even though they ruined every faction that wasn't a corporation to replace with their crappy OCs
>>94319010>people don't understand what cyberpunk IS or what it is aboutThis is especially apparent in character creation. In D&D people usually make characters that are based on something else or a core idea. IMO in cyberpunk your build options are comparatively limited (barring huge amounts sunk into late-game upgrades) and it leads to broad archetypes getting into street gang wars.
>>94319153Disagree, there was a massive implication that everyone from the old guard (Kerry, rogue, etc) is alive only due to the fact they sold out.
>>94319843Except all of Johnny's other band members who are also still alive, one of which is still doing investigative journalism which definitely should be one of those things that gets you killed
>>94321400Nancy covers music, hardly hard biting journalism. Of the other members Henry is a washed up loser, Denny seems to have a nice life, but we have no idea what she actually does for a living. Kerry is the biggest sellout of them all.Of all the Samurai members, only Johnny ever cared about fighting da man and he dies like a bitch. 2077 is pretty consistent when it comes to themes and characters. It's just the overarching narrative that gets a little messy and even then it's still better than most vidya plots.
>>94319843Selling out is one of the three valid exits to the edgerunner lifestyle. There's a reason CP2020 lets you start with a character as young as 16. Being a street-merc is a young person's game. If you're lucky, you get two, maybe three years of hustle in the big leagues. After that, you either sell out, wash out, or die. Literally no one who was running the streets in 2020 should still be active in 2077 because that isn't how the streets work. Johnny, being a ghost who survived his own flatline, is speaking from a position a privilege. If he'd sold out, too, or just run away from Night City and spent the rest of his life playing Doors covers in dive bars, he probably would've lived long enough to bitch about how everyone's a poser and he's the last real rocker.
Real world AV's from the 1960's sure looked weird. I wonder if any corp/private army would bring this back.
>>94318155I won't complain about more good cyberpunk content. For a while I thought the only surviving fantasy cyberpunk franchise would be Taimanin Asagi.
>>94330108>good>survivingI have bad news. It's crap, it was axed after 14 chapters, and this is that IP's second attempt at a manga after the first was canned after two chapters.
>>94330902Dammit, these anime advertisements that never resolve are killing me. Maybe I can glean some ideas out of it, if I was able to remove the vampires from Homefront (altered reality) I could probably do this from Shadowrun/Demonlord 2099 too
>>94331255Best of luck, I bounced off it ten pages in after they made said demon lord a professional streamer.
This was a rather /comfy/ thread. Anyone gonna make another?
>>94335386Why would we when we're only at 270 posts?
>>94335579Oh, it was on page 9 and I thought we were past the bump limit. My bad
Pile bunkers are based and should be apart of your PCs kit.
>>94335637Nta, but what happened? It seems like around the time /pol/ got censored suddenly threads like this one lasted a week. It was a nice change.>>94336187I hear you, brother. What kind of effect would you want to see? Something related to critical hits? Maybe something like 'expend this 100€$ non-rechargeable energy pack and you deal a guarentee crit on your next attack (so potentially double crits if you roll well on the melee role too).' Or just copying the Power upgrade from 2077?
>>94336337I would personally combine the Tech and Power upgrades from 2077, but make priming it an action and require Body 10 or higher to even use the thing without Broken Arm-ing yourself. An arm-mounted, ballistic-powered tungsten-alloy blasting stake is gonna tear whoever uses it apart with the recoil unless their entire skeleton is reinforced, and they'd probably need Body 8 just to lift the thing, much less actually use it.
How would you feel if they released a new Pondsmith based Cyberpunk TTRPG set in a lighter/pulpier alt universe version of the verse? So think less deadly and with a more "shounen" tone.
>>94337534I'd probably pick it up to do some one-shots with just for the alt setting but I don't think it'd replace 2020 for my group since we can just play a less lethal campaign if we wanted to.
>>94337534Isnt that Cybergeneration and kind of Metatron or whatever it is called
>>94337355>combine the Tech and Power upgradesI was so damn mad when they specified that these couldn't be combined (it's a hefty cost for 4 upgrade slots but so cool, actually can Tech even work without a scope?), but then again the Jumpstart kit is simplified rules.Having a special ability that requires a whole turn is interesting. I don't have Toggle's Temple handy but wasn't there a sniper rifle that was made bolt action and despite being excellent it was bumped down to 100€$ (instead of 1,000€$) and the action is spent after the shot even (imagine a guy who carries 5 of these things under a coat and just drops them after firing). It seems like consistent DPS is extremely valuable, so having to spend an action before an attack should have a very valuable payoff.>>94337534But what's the difference between Cody's new game and RED? The magic? And if the 'lore' is as good as the books after the core RED book than no thanks.
>>94337534>a lighter/pulpier alt universe version of the verse?Everybody does that nowadays, a cyberpunk TTRPG that actually leans into the grime and seediness would be much more interesting.
>>94338397I mean you can't mandate table culture. No matter how dark and grimy you make the subject matter some tables will toast it a little and others will blacken it to a crisp.Even among players at my table people seem to have different ideas of how bad things are in Night City and around the world and what bad looks like.We have one party member trying to be a super hero when in our last job we shoved a bunch of high explosive into a briefcase and painted the walls with a trio of VDBs trying to collect on experimental cyberware scav'd from some poor sap on vacation in Pacifica (our game is set before 2077, presumably just before it went fully down the tubes... I certainly hope we didn't set it off).
>>94338397Seriousness all the time would hurt the mood. That is how things are. You have to break it up with some other or silly stuff ever once in a while. Even the 2020 books knows to be tongue in cheek sometimes
>>94337534you mean RED?
>>94337949His new game is a mess thematically and gameplay wise, actually bizarre stuff. never seen something so narrowcast, the game is basically just for him. and I mean I can't say I'm not a bit jealous, man got to professionally produce and publish a TTRPG that was perfectly tailored to his own specific autism. But wow, I just cannot like it.It's like Shadowrun meets eclipse phase meets apocalypse world meets delta green meets magic the gathering meets Naruto meets bleach.
>>94338791I don't think Red has anything as funny as this, and this was a 3rd party book. Red wouldn't even have the balls to make a femboy-loving Red Chrome Legionnaire just like real life 2020 nazis. >>94339065The Witcher TTRPG died for this. And it'll probably cannibalize Red too. At least we were basically making our own content already.
>>94339065Hopefully we can convert it to RED for parts.
>>94337949>wasn't there a sniper rifle that was made bolt action and despite being excellent it was bumped down to 100€$ (instead of 1,000€$) and the action is spent after the shot evenThe Everest VentureWare Kodiak Hunter. Excellent quality, 3-shot magazine, 100 eddies, but you have to manually work the bolt after each shot. It's *so* fucking good for a starting rifle.I think I'd also give the pile bunker the Gorilla Arms benefit if you prime it. This thing is a piece of industrial equipment that someone decided should be a weapon, so it makes sense it's great at demolishing cover.
>>94339293I agree that anything in Red will never top the dark humor 2020 books can get though I was more talking about that serious sessions every time without a break would be increasingly repetitive in general.as a side note i have to add Red lacks a lot of teeth in places, especially having the default bad guy in most stories be Red Chrome, despite that Inquisitors, Maelstorm, Iron Sights, and so on exists>femboy-loving Red Chrome Legionnaireis this is a real character? if so, holy shit
Sudden influx of discord users here, what happened?>>94337949We'll see but I doubt that they would remove the limitation of tech/power/smart rebuilds. As for bolt action thingy, yeah it's pretty fair to dump it dow two categories, since you're essentially halving its damage.>based retard carries 5 bolt action rifles, droping them instead of reloadingPeak RED ruling>>94339528RED is just as much self aware in it's ridiculousness as 2020, but it's more sublte. Good example would be when black chrome was out and /cpg/ was outraged that molly goody two shoes exists, blind to the hints that she's a cannibal.>>94335579How much is the limit now?PSIt's two months till this year ends, and you know what it means DLC wise>'mass DLC in decemberWe got gun'mas, cyber'mas, what now? upgrade'mas? Sea'mass? Landmass? >This monthSo uh, we aint got elflines this year
>>94339293Can you upload this without the blue outline? It's funny
>>94340474>/cpg/ was outraged that molly goody two shoes exists, blind to the hints that she's a cannibal. But that's just exagerrated cartoonish evil. It doesn't feel grounded like the casual evil the corps and gangs engage in 2020. Red also has no humour or wit, it's very dry.
>>94340474>based retard carries 5 bolt action rifles, droping them instead of reloadingHey, if it works it works.
>>94340853Sure thing, boss.
The most unrealistic thing about cyberpunk is that you own your cyberware. Realistically, you'd get a subscription service for your cyberware and you have to use proprietary battery/food stuff to charge it. If you stop paying, they remotely deactivate your tech. Stop paying long enough and they send repo men to reclaim it. But it's okay, because you can restore your cyberware eyes and ears for at a lower cost by having ads play on your HUD 24/7.
>>94340474>>based retard carries 5 bolt action rifles, droping them instead of reloadinghey, "recycling one-shot guns" is a classic stylish move.
>>94221872Since the well appears to be dry, I'll just mention a Smasher analog from a different IP.
>>94342277You have a good point, but there are a few reasons why it could have never happened. The easiest one is that the EU said 'no' with some legislation way back in the 2010's when RavenMicroCybernetics was starting out. They're the least bad faction in Cyberpunk and they control the money supply (at least as far as I understand). This is my preferred reason. Another big reason is that, while I'm sure corporations would have loved to do this for decades, even in our world it only became possible recently such as last year with BMW and their heated seats. I'm sure there are other older examples but it could honestly be that the tech isn't there, at least by 2045 with the tech stagnation. But in 2077+ sure, don't pay your denbts and get a corporate netrunner quickhacking you. My third reason is that the Cyberpunk setting has a large amount of DYI techs who could pretty easily remove or bypass the limitations (for example if the arm had a wifi kill switch, the tech could just run a wire around it and the arm functions even if the wifi code comes in). Sort of similarly, it could be that the juice isn't worth the squeeze as the entire world is poor especially in 2045. Why host huge servers that are monitoring millions of limbs and devices (a single person could have Kiroshi eyes, but a RavenMicroCyb limb) just for a few more eddies a month. That being said, I fully support repomen. Chroming up is expensive and you don't want to be left behind, just sign a loan with the Eurobank. Just don't read the part about when the medtech shows up without anesthetic or zydrate to surgically remove your cyberware.
>>94225944Unironically, the cure to authoritarianism is strong community. >Ideally, they'd work with a fixer to form a neighborhood watch / militia for protection >Create a community co-op while boycotting mega-corp vending machines.>Creating their own local news network (radio, website, podcast, whatever) to report local happenings and local events so citizens stay informed. >Eliminating outside advertisements (billboards, signs, etc.) in their neighborhood. >Rooftop hydroponics farms for fresh produce.>A rooftop zen garden/activity center for people to organize smaller organizations and gather resources >Weekly soup kitchen to create a sense of service and ensure the community is fed. >Monthly neighborhood block parties to form a sense of community. >Monthly meetings to decide on next steps to take to improve the neighborhood, thus keeping the community engaged in their local wellbeing. >A more authoritarian approach to this would be an emphasis on religion to drive cultural unity as well as unity from proximity. Basically, creating an ideal community in their own backyard that serves as a template for other neighborhoods. This also fits with Night City's "Disneyland" design theme as you could make a sub-district called "Little Rockwell" or something Americana like that.
>>94344880Holy shit. The idea of going in as the cops and breaking this up in favor of making the neighborhood behave like all the others.
>>94342715I'd love to play a Repo campaign in RED. Start off tracking some street junkies, move up to gang leaders or cyberpsychos. Maybe finish it off with a high profile corpo/politician who decided to just ignore their invoices.
>>94344880This is what Hope Reborn should have been, rebuild the community around the Forlorn Hope too (with mechanics not just fluff). Given the headquarters DLC I don't think they really care about giving players tons of useful tools.
>>94344880Bros, I wanna live here.
>>94338479The way I run it is everything is fucked but everyone is having a good time regardless.
>>94344880From what I know, a lot of that stuff is illegal in Night City at least. It'd be good if the corps and cops didn't smash it down though>>94344914I haven't read it yet, what's the deal?
>>94344914i dont disagree that the hope reborn should have focused a lot more on the people, but i actually think its quite good.
Anyone did a debt thing for RED?
>>94345873From my understanding you wouldn't be allowed to do this in a corporate zone (corpsec is well-funded so drones and blacksite prisons), if you did this in a suburban zone you may have run-ins with the local PD (Lazarus Security protects the suburbs for local city managers), and if you're in one of the new combat zones you can get away with whatever you want as long as you have a strong private army or gang (if you're in the OG combat zone, good luck that place is cybernetic Australia). >>94348239I've had players do jobs in lieu of payment, for example the crew sank one of Rex Royale's jetskis during a job and instead of making them pay back 20,000eb he had them do more jobs for him. He still paid them fairly (1,000eb each for challenging jobs, 500eb for milk runs, etc) but the idea was he only had to send the player crew, meanwhile if he was sending his usual knuckleheads he'd have to send way more, and thus pay way more. But I've floated the idea of having the crew get a premium service for free but have to pay a corp back with an unpaid job (such as getting free plane tickets to a job location, but have to do a challenging job for the corp later or even before). As for bank loans I feel like Eurobank would say no to anybody with less reputation than 6 (you're known by sight by people outside of your neighborhood, makes it easier for the bounty hunters to find you). The chances of a borrower debtMAXXing and fleeing to mexico are too high. But I could see pawn shops being popular (warning, the shop owner is definitely a fixer so you'll only get 90% of your item's value even if you come back within 2 months, maybe less).
>>94344880This is what a Reclaimer-focused campaign has the potential to be. Just walk away from Night City, find a community working their hardest to present an alternative to the choice between NUSA's bootheel and Night City's capitalist hellscape, and defend it to your death. The Unification War's coming eventually, but some fights are worth losing.
>>94346247I was going to buy it this month for my collection but I still can't decide if I should. The art is really fucking gross but I liked DGD so I can overlook it if the content is good. The liquor heist sounds lame though. Like, if there's a lot of that I dunno.
>>94351735there isnt actually. I gave it a review early in the thread and you can download it for free by looking near the beginning of the thread.art is surprisingly good outside of the really awful dogshit, dont ask me why they used a dogshit artist for almost all the biggest pieces. ive read every one of the adventures in detail and i did a breakdown, but tl;dr is that its much more cohesive and consistent than the tales, with a lot of highs and few lows. con is that it lacks solid character moments in the way the original forlorn hope had. It ends on a difficult mission, either challenging combat or challenging social. second to last mission can also be a challenge. the heist mission is definitely the least like the others but desu, its okay. not nearly as bad as i thought. didnt wow me but also, not bad.also, the gm aides in the book are unironically some of the best in any adventure ive ever got my hands on, and im not memeing>T. guy who wouldnt pay for anything if he didnt have to and hasnt paid for anything in RED
Idea>Use Goat from MTV's Downtown as an NPC>Have him be a Rockerboy.>Make him be the guy that knows guys.>Let his only cybernetic implant be one that connects him to his dog.
>>94344880This is basically the D&D "run a tavern" campaign everyone thinks they want, but on the scale of a small village. I can see some interactions, like taking down ad would likely be an adventure of the week, but I don't see how this stays interesting for 5-6 sessions.
What's some good music for a horror game set on a space station?
