They arent especially playable because I built them primarily as props to put in the background of mini photos lol, but now they find their way onto necromunda tables as LOS blockers.
But these are the only 100% scratchbuilds I have, the rest is mostly spruced up mdf kits and plastic stuff.

The real key with soda-can terrain is to hide the curves on the ends, it's why the Coke cans in OP are so obvious and the Red Bull can in the second one isn't. Same goes for standard food cans and the reinforcing ridges in the middle, a simple cardboard wrap goes a long way towards selling them.

I'm recently getting into Infinity again, and as that game has a huge demand for good and dense scenic tables, I'm going to have to upgrade my battlefield. Has anyone bought Warsenal stuff? I got a few test kits, for smaller projects. Just for shits and gigs to see what it's like and dive right into MDF terrain from people with years of experience in the industry.

Got some japanese to look forward to painting and assembling soon, so I got a shine gate to set myself off on this journey right. Now all I need is to plan out the shrine this will be placed in front of. This looks like a very straight forward build; can't wait to dive into it when I find the tabletime.

In general what do you think about MDF terrain? Is it great? Too expensive? Bulky and unwieldy? Maybe just right? Comments on that general topic are appreciated.

>In general what do you think about MDF terrain? Is it great? Too expensive? Bulky and unwieldy? Maybe just right? Comments on that general topic are appreciated.
I love it.. as a base for putting more shit onto. In general you get more out of MDF the more elbow grease you put into it. Scrubbing off char, sealing the piece before you paint it, etc. Fundamentally they save you a few hours of work laying out templates and cutting, and unlike foamcoare or hardboard a commercial MDF piece is guaranteed to be structurally sound. As long as the price you're paying is worth the work and materials you're saving to you, it's good.

My biggest issue with it is unless the people making it are very careful the whole "everything's a square, everything's the same thickness" bit can make it look more like a movie set than a piece of terrain. If that makes sense. TTCombat has a cool line with laser-cut cardboard and multiple thicknesses of MDF to add dimension to the models, and I do similar stuff with thin card, wood, and cheap bits on my own. Pic related is a ~1 hour makeover job on an old miscut TTCombat piece that looks a hell of a lot better than the original. Toolboxes are from a dollar store car set, corrugated iron was made with a paper corrugater I got from Dick Blick for $15. Cast bits and stuff like the Maelstrom's Edge sprues go a long way, as does drywall tape.

As I mentioned last thread, one of the things I like most about chunkier MDF pieces is that you can leave the roof removable and store scatter terrain inside them. Or even whole other buildings, as long as you pad them well. All the ladders and bridges for my medieval skirmish table fit into two of the buildings, and a bunch of my post-apoc scatter terrain fits inside a few Reaper ISO containers for transport.

You can find most of the dimensionalized line of stuff on TTCombat's page by searching for "greyboard", then copy the names and look for discounts off-site.

Threw these test pieces together but two questions:

1. How can I make a tarp/cloth to drape over this barricade?

2. The CD is a test piece for a boggy area. I can glue glue sand to the clay and paint it like normal dirt but whats the best way to do the water? I was going to paint the CD surface murky green and mix Vallejo Still Water with a green primer then pour a VERY thin layer and spread it round with a brush (it cracks like crazy if you go over 1-2mm in my experience)

>1. How can I make a tarp/cloth to drape over this barricade?
Get a remnant square of cotton muslin (for sailcloth/denim/canvas) or a similar light, tough fabrilc, wet it wth glue, and put it in place. Sculpt as it dries.
You can do the same with cotton gauze and dye for camo nets, and with paper towels for a very rough embossed or quilted fabric. Very thin faux leather can work but it rarely looks good. Pic related, replaced this awning almost immediately with muslin.

It’s more trouble than it’s worth. Unless you like maintaining your living terrain and have a room for it to grow it’s just not worth it.
When done right it’s super fun, but you gotta play on it often enough to justify the effort needed to maintain a nourishing environment for your lichen.

Cheap is grabbign stuff like the caps from baby food pouches, busted computer fans, and geometric shapes cut out of cardboard.
Expensive but easy is the Maelstrom's Edge terrain sprues, which are explicitly designed for exactly what you're doing.

Textured paint to make it look like an adobe or similar clay structure. One of the issued here is that the bottle doesn't really mimic any real world structure with that texture. With a clay-like surface it might look more like a chimney or outdoor furnace.

I don't know which WD it was, but it was a citfyfight between Space Marines (Salamanders?) and Tau where they also detailed how to build building and Cityfight terrain with foam. It looked fucking incredible but I have no clue which White Dwarf it was in or if I am misremembering things.

Either way, the terrain was exquisite and looks heaps better than building with skulls and unnecessary details slapped on. Also quite easy to make and weather from how they seemed to do it.

Yup, both of them are. Steel floestry wire, twisted into a cable with the looped end left untwisted to form the head structure, wrapped in tin foil for bulk, initial forming made with epoxy sculpt then details carved into a layer of greenstuff/milliput mix. I'm rather proud of them, they came out well for a first time attempt.

Are you wanting to keep using as a box as well as terrain?
If so, throw on a corrugated roof with a lifting tab and maybe a balcony, then base it and texture it up. Since it's unsupported cardboard you'll want to seal it. Coating both the inside and the outside with waterproof PVA and letting it dry will help prevent warping. So will taping shut the bottom flaps or dropping a cardboard insert down into the bottom to hold them flat. Tile grout warps cardboard less than wall filler, or you can just lay in a thick paint and let it be. You'll want to weight the roof on the lid front-heavy so it holds the flap down in play.
After that you can try for something like vents or an exterior light and doorframes.
>paint
I'd go for a graffiti patch on one wall, overall off-white, and some big bands of basic colors. It's easy and it can pass for SF or anything from about 1943 to now.

I made a fair amount of friekorps and armed civilians ages ago but the thought of making a suitable central Berlin board to use them on is daunting.
Is there any way to make 28mm city blocks in a way that doesn't mean an extreme amount of work and storage real estate? Maybe cheating and only making facades?
>>
>>94278457
I would do a bunch of box-like buildings, that are just external facades not that can nest inside each other for storage. You can do small scatter terrain that stores inside the smallest buildings.

You can get some variety stacking them, placing flat sides together and creating Alleyways between them.

>>

I tried to get my hand on some Poly Fiber for the foliage, but could find it in stock anywhere at the time.

He no longer even plays games, he just makes bullshit slop terrain because he knows you morons will generate him ad revenue before venturing out to copy him. It would be good and admirable of you to try these new things in earnest, but in reality all of you are just chasing internet clout and humble bragging on reddit or fagbook or wherever with posts like, “yah I don’t usually make terrain but…” with a picture of some pathetic craft-by-numbers shit that you truly believes deserves thousands of likes and upvotes and attention. Heaps of the model railway guys are doing this, and thought some of Piers Brand's Normandy terrain was like this but buggered if I can find some photos

found this TMP query for Berlin papercraft buildings, nothing 100% what you require but some might be adapatable

>black magic crafts
you're the first guy in the thread to mention him lol
doesn't really offer much to me and is clearly on the content treadmill so I simply don't watch him
no weird hateboners, social media stalking, name knowing, or unprompted schizo meltdowns required
>And no I won’t post my own terrains for the above stated reasons; don’t want you retarded parasites try to farm internet points by copying my ideas and styles.
you won't post it because you don't make it, and in the slim chance you do it's going to be as iterative and derivative as anyone else's that's ever made terrain
in more learned times a mental case like you would be having a right old time thinking you were napoleon

I’m very proud of these rocky bluffs I made. They really change the dynamic of the game depending on where they are placed, and my friends and I love fighting through the tunnel under the arch.

Yes, also you can easily make custom modular cube terrain with them.

I'm using this thread for my own question.
I'm a noob in making terrain but I'm interested in learning; what are good resources/books/youtube channels to learn from? Do you have any particular infograph you would share about how to make terrain pieces?

Devs and Dice on youtube is a great resource. Usually my go to for inspiration and tips on techniques.

Any ideas on how to spice up these forest bases beyond static grass, tuffs and rocks?

Bushes from clump foliage, stacks of lumber, a wild animal or two.
