Do energy weapons fit 'the aesthetic'?
>>94356212they also removed fullborgs, ACPAs, Lazarus, reomeatwagon...my point is that some things aren't in the game just because they aren't in the game, lol. doesn't mean anything
>>94356212I don't know about 2077, but CPR has the laser grid trap which basically says that lasers are ranged melee weapons which is pretty crazy. To be honest, even a single RoF1 laser gun sounds better than the fucking railgun (which isn't good until the enemy's standard Light Armorjack has taken at least 1 hit, and if it's tech-upgraded 2 hits). Why CDPR removed in in particular? I don't know, they didn't really seem to like AV's either but I'm not sure if that was system limitations or their version of the setting.
>>94356212Was rewriting some stuff related to roles for our homebrew abomination game, and when I got to Exec (RED) I realised I don't even want that role in the game. Having corporates in your team is just really disruptive and stops the players from developing loyalty to one another in a believable way.
Its dumb this is a class based game. Cyberpunk of all settings is not class based.
>>94359367Played a short campaign where the PCs didn't have role ranks, it was fine. If you dislike roles you can just cut them out and not lose much, the game is perfectly playable without them.
>>943593672020 wasn't really. Most of the role abilities, save for netrunning were more of background perks. Being able to call the company for some swag, being able to call your uncle to bring a crane. Everybody could buy drugs on the street, but fixers had a dedicated "I get it" roll.
>>94359434>Hitler had Persuasion+9So who had +10?!?
>>94359795The players, of course.
Where do I go if I want to play cyberpunk red games online? Ala roll20 but a good game
Given that they regressed back to fucing punched card for a decade or two, I don't care if lasers rifles are not a thing.
>>94360541I thought the punch cards were from the 2010s or so
>>94360541There are government computers and university databases right now that still use punch cards and tape drives. At first, it was just because that massive amount of data is really hard to migrate in a timely fashion, especially when the machines have to be up and running all the time. But, one advantage to running critical systems off of super-old tech is that it's fundamentally unhackable to modern machines, so why bother updating?
Ended up in possession of a Kendachi Mono-Three in the last session. What would a Tech have to do to factory-reset its biometric ID system and get it linked to my biometric profile?
>>94361565Probably Weaponstech roll. I'd treat it as 'damaged', even though it still works. As a luxury item, that's DV 29 and two weeks of work.
>>94356212I'm a big fan of 80's Saturday morning cartoon laser guns desu.
>>94359367I've playec classless systems and didn't enjoy them. I like characters having roles and specialities related to them. Plus Cyberpunk's role system along with skills is very flexible, skills are the most used anyway.
>>94361565Could port the Micronet rules and have Netrunner do it.
>>94364334Thats DnD brainrot but alright
>>94365119What part of having a character do something particular is DnD brainrot? Every fucking game out there from pathfinder to traveller is like this
>>94365534NTA but what do you mean Traveller is a part of 'doing something particular'? That is one of the few systems where you can come out of character creation with 'not good at anything' or 'good at nothing in particular' as defining character features.
>>94365652I concede, it's true that traveller's character gen is a minigame on itself.
>>94365833Glad we got that sorted out, you two can go back to arguing now. I'm just here to have a good time and bitch about how Red isn't like 2020. Fuck Red, I fucking hate it, it sucks ass which is why I spent like 2 years playing it and had a lot of fun it's garbage.
>>94365948Amen brother, I’m here to nag on RED homebrew specifically, which sucks dong and that’s why I only used it every other session.
>>94365948b-but you had fun for two years with it
>>94366298IT'S GARBAGE, but it's pretty fun and I would recommend it to others. I just can't stand it because it doesn't let me run the kind of games I want, because IT SUCKS ASS.
>>94366319may I play other games with you?
>>94359367I think Red makes a nice compromise between having classes and more free form leveling. The only issue is half the classes are kinda half baked.
How do you feel about weapons with built in Virtual Intelligence avatars? Have you ever used for a PC/NPC? Has anything related to em played a big part in one of your campaigns? Did you take your gun simping to the next level?
>>94368036what classes could get some extra stuff in your opinon?
>>94369340i disagree with him that its half but i think Nomads are wonky (not weak, just kinda imperfect) and Lawmen are completely wasted with the least flavourful and most pigeon holed ability in the set. More than enough has been said on lawmen since the very first RED general, some of it by me, and i dont feel like beating a dead horse again.i think that medtech could be more openended like techs or medias, their ability feels more gamey and inorganic, and Tech has a lot more variability. Two techs can be speced very differently between the many tech skills and the options for the role ability, as well as the open ended nature of the abilities themselves. I think id like medtech more if it felt less like every medtech was the same or if they played off existing SkillsFor the Fixer role - it could specialize in Types of goods, perhaps organized by bespoke categories or simply by which of the Tech skills is used to craft repair them, rather than it being purely a matter of how you play the character. Making a gun dealer distinct from an infobroker would i think help players get in the head of the role. But theres merit to the more open ended nature.Nomads are too specifically the Vehicle Guy. They are obscenely good at operating vehicles with only modest investment, but they completely over shadow everyone else in operation and procurement of vehicles so it restricts both them and other roles. Solo, by contrast, is good at shootemups, but not so necessary for gunfights that no one else brings a gun. The black chrome expansion of vehicles with inbuilt mods did a lot to alleviate this while boositng nomads.Execs, before the HQ stuff, couldnt do enough with their lackeys. The other thing holding them back is that there isnt enough fluff on corps in RED - i dont think we got confirmation that lazarus still exists until Hope Reborn. We need a corp report badly, And id like it if execs got some sort of feature based on which corp or type of corp they worked for
>>94369580Yeah it literally is, the OP is concept art for it
>>94369908thanks for the breakown
>>94366319>game is half-assed but has potential and the genre is criminally underserved>in the release year a huge media project in a similar setting is released, building hype>you have to look at online forums to learn bugfixes and install 3rd party homebrews to make the game passable>you do so much work for the half-assed game that you develop a deep connection to the game because it almost feels like your game at this point>mfw Cyberpunk RED is the Skyrim of tabletop RPGs. Todd you did it again.
>>94370431skyrim is better than cyberpunk 2077 at least
What are some fun uses of brain dance you've seen? We had 2 in our campaigns: Media playing a cross between Hunter Thomspon and Dale Gribble got his brain dance implant and decides to take ALL the drugs he can find and go out clubbing. Gets involved in an orgy and sells the BD on the market. Doc had rapid detox so he suffered no negative effects. In another game a guy needed to be in several places at once, so he hired people with brain dance and got them all bodysculpting surgery to look like him. He sent them off on their tasks and then brought them back to watch their BDs and get all the info as though he was everywhere at once. DM even had him roleplay the doubles.
>>94365833Teavellers character generation is a lot of fun, especially when you all make characters together so you can laugh at the guy with the size three home planet
How long do you think it would be before cyberpunk civilization collapses or transforms into something else? Everything about it suggest rampant unsustainable waste, yet is has been going on for a long time.
How do you space out in game days? SWhat seems to happen in my games, since we play like once every 2-3 months (we all live at the opposite ends of the country and we've all started having kids) so we are doing one shots now that we can start and finish in a full day session since my players don't remember much by the time the next session rolls around so no point doing a long campaign. The ingame gig is usually a day or two and I bring the next gig usually a week or so between them for the next session. Does this sound right? I dunno if this is fucking up the Tech or it's hurting their banks at all. Any thoughts?
>>94369340NTA but add my two cents simply because noone asked>what classes could get some extra stuff in your opinon?First things first, Lawmen are criminally underrated - even playing RAW backup is damn good ability that can easily be a push-to-win button. Devs tried to makeup it with saying things we all know: you can fluff lawman into ganger, corporate enforcer, reclaimers etc. Yeah, if you're not a retard you figured out that it's a position of authority that comes not from you but from bigger organisation.Personally I like that one rework that originated here, on this very thread - lawman get a certain amount of favors per month that they can spend on various resources. Sure, it undermines other roles, but we used it for about 10 months and it's good. Only downside is it requires the player and referee to get creative to come up with new abilities and their price respectively.>MedicsWhy they're not made mechanically as a mirror of a techie is beyond me. It's clear that they were designed the same way, which is 4 abilities, but somehow they only get a single point instead of two, and fourth skill is gated behind two of the three. What the fuck?Surgery is literally their bruh skill, with DV ranging from 13 to 17, in contrast crafting may require a DV of 9-29. And as far as I recall, which will probably be corrected by someone more autisitc than me in a moment, the surgery got the most out of stacking bonuses as a skill in entire game. Like, a single point is enough to perform every single surgery with 70% or so efficiency if you have enough equipment. So to answer the question, there could be either a risk/reward take that you could perform surgery under -8 and gain additional benefit out of it, like implant giving less HL, which is RAW somehow tied to a tech-upgrade. Other way might be that IF you beat the DV by a large amount, say 8, it takes less HL.Not my original idea, but probably pretty good.Rest of them are fine as they are. Mechanically.
ACPAs are cool - but are they actually any fun to play? there's a lot going on and 2020 always felt suited to live fast die young street punk stuff. never played a gain where ACPAs were actually played. so were they fiddly or fun
>>94371324Already did and it hasn't stopped.
>>94371360>Lawmen are criminally underrated
>>94371964>Nomad stands apart>Solo doesn't need anyone else>Fixer is fine the way it is>Netrunner's got legs
>>94372125>Tech could use some work
>>94369340I have a few exec players and gave them the ability to make jobs for other edgerunners (you know the entire lifeblood of the Cyberpunk gig economy) and so far I've been pleased with the results. Jobs are mostly weird pet projects, spying on rivals or enemies who got away, or actually helping their company like they are supposed to.
Thanks for the replies, I've been meaning to get back to tabletop roleplay and I played cyberpunk RED before, as a tech with all the points in full-auto weapons. When I took a look at the classes I indeed saw how the medic one was "off" but I couldn't tell why and others like the fixer and lawman were too free form abusable and/or DM dependant for my tastes. And don't even get me started on the terrible EXP system and awful lack of chrome, I am not sure if that was rectified in new updates. So, I am not sure what GOOD tabletop rpg there is for me to play
>>94371324By all rights, from a fictional standpoint, they should be on the verge of an apocalyptic even by 2077. Which I guess they kind of are with AI's and everything. There's no way the world makes it to the 22nd century without a total apocalyptical reset. But then you'd have a completely different genre on your hands. This wouldn't be a problem as much if Cyberpunk 2077 had taken place in the 2040's instead.
>>94371324It should've happened sometime around the 2050's. The neocorps, strong as they are, couldn't establish the same stranglehold over Night City as Arasaka and Militech. It was only a matter of time before Militech and the NUSA betrayed each other their own short-term gain, which would squandered any attempts at the Reunification War. Without the Reunification War, Arasaka wouldn't be able to re-establish a foothold in Night City. With the fundamentally-anarchistic Nomad clans having a significant power base in post-war Night City, sooner or late some kind of conflict would occur between the clans and city council. Whoever comes out on top, something will break, and the bubble supporting the previous status quo will collapse in on itself.2077 is a perversion of the rational course of Cyberpunk's timeline.
>>94371326I try to do four gigs a month, with the rest of the month devoted to downtime and recovery between gigs. Sometimes, if everything in the last gig went extremely smoothly, there's enough time for a hustle roll if someone has nothing else going on and needs the extra cash.
>>94368639Should be the norm for smart weapons, and high-tech ballistics. If Militech gave me a SCAR that had a dommy mommy call me a good boy each time I bagged a sandnigger, I'd sign up and go career.
>>94368639I like the idea of vehicles, weapons, armor and bases having ai, I think it's cool. A talking gun is basically a wife.
>>94356212No one's going to mention how stupid it is to hold on to a front-facing battery for leverage?
>>94371324Without 4CW, Datakrash, and global shipping collapse, in the Starbalde Battalion timeline Cyberpunk era ended in 2040s, there was AI wars in 2060, total ecological collapse by 2070s, in 2090 there was global unification war, and in 2111 there were mecha. With those three we are probably 50 years behind the schedule with the caveat that AI wars will come sooner and will be more brutal.

>>94382656Black Chrome+ has a jealous gf sniper rifle and it's actually nuts. It's an exotic rifle that can fire non-basic ammo, has a sniping and thermal scope (600€$ value), and the integrated agent with gf (100€$). After murdering 10 people the gf upgrades the gun to Excellent. That's great because it frees up the rifle for other fun tech-upgrades, such as a smartgun link. If anything the weapon is undervalued.
>>94368639>>94382845Well i'm using this.
What would life on the Moon be like in the time of Red and '77?
>>94382845It's a sniper rifle so it's automatically trash.
>>94383768how?
>>94384202Not him, but probably because snipers are only effective at 50m+ and most maps are 25mx25m (those kinds of ranges would be dv25 to hit). Now for a meme boss fight I want to challenge my crew with the retard using bolt-action sniper rifles at close range. 100% chance my players instinctively dodge instead of realizing he has to beat dv30 to hit them, and they'll be so impressed by a tactic that doesn't work for them (since most bad guys don't dodge).
>>94384584So sniper rifles are the kind of things that depend solely on the GM? I mastered some ttrpg and I always considered space for everybody to shine. Having to ALWAYS make open-field maps sounds wack tho. No CQC, no shootouts inside a pub and etc... I can already imagine a guy that specs into sniper stuff and whines all the time
>>94384910the issue is that despite only being good at long range they're still only 5d6 so they're not actually going to put anyone down in one go. and this is the same damage as an assault rifle... which can actually do more direct damage via full auto. if they were 6d6 they'd have a niche of some sort
>>94385073theyre already strong>too far so enemies cant fight back>the first shot is a stealth hit so autohit>even if the enemies see you, theyre still too far to fight back, so the sniper can feel free to shoot them with no consequences>scopes, wares, and other shit make headshots easyI feel people only think theyre shit because players think they can only main one gun and/or GM can't do theater of the mind
>>94385265I did a long range sniper fight and it was fun, but they're useless outside those scenarios, you cannot use them on a normal combat map. All you need to do is make close-mid range DVs reasonable (similar to the AR) and they would be an excellent weapon.
>>94384584>>94384910>>94385073>>94385265>>94386160This seems fixable by just adjusting some numbers, but I don't have much experience doing that kind of stuff.
How would one make a EPG-1 GL for RED?My first take:>Drum mag>Attack deals 6d6AP + EMP effectVerdict - too close to a cowboy GL when used5000eb weapon definitelySecond take:>Poor Quality>Unique ammo for 500eb that makes electrified smoke that forces DV13 EMP for anyone for a minuteVerdict - entirely different gun, now a area denial weaponprobably 1000eb weaponthird take>Excellent Quality>Drum mag>Only fire AP grenades (fluff it they leave blue trace)1000eb weapon again, too generic for my taste.idk man, make it 5d6 grenade? lose the AP effect? limit EMP to only when pierced SP? Actually last one is probably a E-harpoon from Maximum Metal. One might argue, that trying to convert a gun made to be relatively balanced for a fast paced shooter is doomed from the start for a game with character progression, item cost and so on, but come on, we want gun porn, dont we?
Back in my 2020 days in the distant past of 15 years ago, having a gun that was styled to seem like it was your girlfriend was a vision of a dystopian future where humanity was so lost that they'd rather pretend to make love to a machine meant to kill human beings, than to connect with real thinking people. An image of a society where the very act of emotional closeness was commodified and perverted, and used as just another way to turn people into cattle. Now it's considered desirable. I think this is a contributing factor why I have a hard time connecting with modern Cyberpunk.
>>94385265Based TotM referee. I think the no-miss only applies to a melee attack (but since it didn't specify what category you could sneak attack with the Rostović Kleaver). But you can reduce the aimed headshot penalty to only -4 (Comp, taking time, Excellent, Targeting Scope) so you can easily deal double damage for only beating DV19-21. >>94386205What about tech-upgrading (or inventing) an AP grenade that also has the EMP effect? Maybe if you reduced the grenade damage to 5d6 but kept the same EMP effect you could pass it off as proprietary ammo, and that way keep the cost of the gun low too?
Are we doing something wrong or is combat in RED supposed to feel like a slog?Fighting enemies with even just light armorjack is tedious
>>94387577The game is balanced around shooting lots of low level enemies with kevlar or worse, if you treat mooks as equivalent to PCs you'll end up with slow moving combat when you're using low amount of damage dice. Critical hits are supposed to be what takes out the LAJ mook. The more enemies, the less armour between them.>This sounds stupid as hellYes. I stopped playing Red because of it, I know others who have as well.>What do I do if I want to use diegetic armour? You use a different combat system, 2020 is an obvious pick. BRP (Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green, etc) is a good alternative. We use Traveller.>I want a solution that doesn't involve changing system.James Hutt suggests making weapons crit if any of the damage dice show 6, this will speed up combat significantly, I am a fan. Alternatively just give mooks less health, 10-15.
>>94387577Try giving the bad guys poor quality shoulder arms (which the core rulebook does say even mooks should have). If they actually hit they'll be dealing 18 damage on average with a 20% chance of a crit (+5 damage and a funny bonus effect). Bad guys should only be using handguns if they're being covert, like a gang operating in the corporate zone. Remember a poor quality shoulder arm costs just as much as a standard very heavy handgun. As for bad guys taking too long to kill while it's insane for anyone regularly engaging in violence to not wear LAJ you could say that it's 'worn out' and take off a few SP. Every point of SP is that much damage absorbed, so even going from 11 to 9 is -21 damage. The core rulebook mooks have Kevlar (7SP) so you could say their LAJ is really damaged and start it as low as that.Everyone with an internet connection will know dodging is meta, that's just a fact of life. When I play online I'll let a player know exactly how many attacks are aimed at them and roll. Usually the text box displays the hits, like rolling 3d10+12 and getting 15, 20, 18. Then the player rolls their evasion the same way (3d10+14) and we quickly compare numbers. 16, 19, 18 means they only dodge the first attack. Technically they have to roll first to set up the new ranged DV to hit them but asking players too many questions confuses them and they prefer to roll after the attack. I like this because it statistically is worse for them (now they have to beat the attacker's roll). As for bad guys dodging (such as Bozo's high on synthcoke or Arasaka ninjas) I would actually impose a penalty to hit like -2 for mooks and -4 for lieutenants. Bosses could still allow for a roll, especially since they'll probably have a sweet +16 Evasion. If the problem is that the players are too strong you can use Hardened enemies, usually with +2 on all rolls (mooks going from +8-10 to +12 is pretty sweet vs chargen +14 Evasion) and adding more enemies or giving them gear.
>>94387140it is still the same no? Most won't give it a good thunk, but the message is there
>>94387803I don't think the writers intended that message. Notably the 1TruLuv has a dark side to it but it isn't presented as it being dystopian, it is presented as being quirky. It's not HAL. But you go read 'All About Agents', there it is not presented as having a dark side at all. I think that it isn't immediately recognised as despicable is indicative of a cultural change that undermines the reading of it as a part of dystopia. We live in a world where if your phone acted like your girlfriend that'd be generally accepted, striking 4chan as a sample I still know people who would be ambivalent to it or mildly positive. Notably "fake friend" technology is a serious consideration within elderly care. It's almost moral puritanism to call people coomers, essentially.
>>94387635>>94387735Thanks for the advice!Unfortunately I'm a player so there's not a lot I can act on
>>94388012Send this to your GMhttps://drive.google.com/file/d/1-83v9FJ4UdvuQobbyleLhu5pfiE280LA/view?usp=drivesdk
>>94388012In the absence of talking to the GM and agreeing on a rules tweak, then you must embrace the warrior within. Grab a katana and a belt full of grenades, these are the natural enemies of the armoured corposoldier. Go, your destiny awaits.
>>94387887hmm... I had in mind a girl's voice and hologram that goes "you got this daddy!" everytime you fire the gun and kill people with it. But indeed this is a friend/girlfriend virtual assistant that is pretty much like Siri or Cortana, BUT, it's tailored to people to make them over attached to the system
>>94387257>sniper guns, a gun that exists for stealth shots, does not count for stealth attacks and instant killsthis sounds really retarded
>>94386160You can also jiggle with gun ranges a bit depending on whatever you're doing with the gun. Like the SWAT sniper shooting a bank robber from one or two rooms away, because of his gun being settled on another officer's shoulder.
>>94387735Also a few more ideas I came up with.Use roles for NPCs, especially hardened ones and especially solo. A solo rank 2 mook would be dealing 20 damage on average with shoulder arms. A lieutenant at rank 4 can choose between +4 damage or +1 damage/+1 attack. This doesn't really speed up combat (except to make players flee) but improves lethality. At half HP a character takes a -2 on all rolls, which means that mooks have even worse chances at hitting players. This means a waste of time while the enemies do nothing and the players pick them off. So the ref can have them run away when enough hit half HP. This robs the players of carried loot (the fleeing goons could drop their poor quality guns to give the players something) or let the players make one last attack (let's say the goons have MOV5 and run at double speed, so are +20m away. This means they could be DV20-25 to hit, but assault rifle players will be in luck). Bam, literally saved half of the fight. >>94388012As the player the most you can do is be on the ball in fights. If you're digital I really like where the ref just rolls all attacks at once but that would be more of a pain in the ass in rl. But show your ref some of these ideas (especially pre-damaged armor to Kevlar levels). There is nothing wrong with challenging fights where the crew is almost 1:1 with the enemy, but you don't want that to be all fights (unless it's a 2,000eb suicide job).
Has anyone ever actually played with ACPA? How was it?
>>94388306As NPC, it TKP'd the party. Beep boop.
Can cyberpunk (the ruleset) be setting agnostic generic sci-fi and/or space travel or is it firmly tied to its world?
>>94361550
>>94384584Through years of play and running, I've learned the best way to have a sniper rifle in action is to split the party.Main party is doing their stealth and/or head cracking. The sniper and his bodyguard are at least one building away, constantly moving to outpace security forces hot on their trail. Is this a fuck ton of work for the DM? Yes. Does it fully recognize the sniper fantasy while allowing him to play alongside the party from a city block away? Also yes.
>>94389043Cyberpunk Red has a sanity mechanic that is tied to the setting, but you can remove that and it is serviceable for any generic sci-fi system or modern combat game.
>>94389075I pulled this off once and it was a very memorable session. The players had to clear out a Triad office building after hours. The sniper perched up on a rooftop (could only cover the west and south side of the building) and the medtech slipped inside. The medtech was kung-fuing people, but every 30 seconds (extra time+complimentary) would grab some unlucky goon to drag them in front of a window where the sniper popped their head. Funniest shit I ever saw.>>94388306I also had a boss-level fight vs the crew, as usual the 3v1 action economy sucks and the fight was really dangerous until the players realized that armor-halving from melee still worked. I explained this away by saying it was a Mexican Metals mech, but if I run more ACPA stuff I would rule that ACPA armor can only be halved by other ACPA. That being said the special surprise where you just beat up a mecha with SP18 and 40SDP for the past few turns, and now it's broken but a miniboss with SP8 and 60HP pops out is a pretty funny phase 2. >>94388155It took 4 years but we have general silencers now. Prease understanderu, we are an early access tabletop RPG.
>>94387887Red has shit writing that's often tonally inconsistent. It's a dystopian, borderline post apocalyptic future written by sheltered TTRPG nerds who don't like evil characters, so everyone is a hippy activist.1TrueLuv is fine though. 2020 and 2077 have plenty of humour. It's goofy whilst still being fairly dystopian. It's a literal Raifu, it's satire on AI girlfriends and gun culture. Not all Cyberpunk has to be super srs, watch Robocop ffs.
So can we blame Cody's nepobaby vanity project as the reason why a proper 2077 corebook is taking so long? Has anyone played this game?
>>94389596I would like to blame Cody but I don't really think that's the issue, RTal is just slow as continental plates and if there was no Shadow Scar 0there'd be a standalone flower arranging revival expansion for Cybergeneration or a tie-in mission pack with Breach Wizards. I will never play Shadow Scar because it looks incredibly crunchy and what little I saw of it makes it seem like the world doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Nonsense algebra is not my happy place.
>>94389625>or a tie-in mission pack with Breach Wizards.Adding magic to Cyberpunk would be cool though.
>>94389653Wash your mouth with soap, shaman.
>>94389653>left to their own devices, Cyberpunk fans will re-invent Shadowrun on their own.
I just don't get premade missions that are sold. Got my hands on the Tales from the Red and reading up on the first mission, a Night at the Opera, it just feels... Really fucking dumb, extremely railroaded, and offers zero suggestions on how to keep things on track, or what to do if things go off-track... Not to mention that it's basically just>First you see these edgy vampires and find dudes>You meet the edgy vampires again who tell you to go kill a dude>You go kill the dudeLike... Okay?
>>94379866>I love starfield gunsFucking hell man, why? What's your damage?
>>94390218Cause they're cool. I love lever action grenade launchers
>>94390153There are thousands of great adventures worth their asking price for a hundred systems. Red in general does not have great adventures. They're too vague, and it's like they're randomly generated. They're pretty much what I come up with for session notes, and I'm terrible at creating adventures. Compare it to anything released by Mongoose and it's like night and day. The writers don't seem to be encouraged to create locations with maps, characters, and timetables (you know, the part that takes effort), and instead are just ideas that are vaguely strung together. There's the Halloween one where a vending machine has become sentient, and it has Doctor Frankenstein basically appear out of thin air to explain what is going on the to players, but it's a fucking vending machine with a gun. What is there to explain? It is genuinely easier to reskin other systems' adventures than to use the average Red adventure. That said I've always run Cyberpunk as a sandbox and I'd encourage everyone else to do as well.>>94390218NTA but while Starfield is a joke, its one redeeming feature is that a lot of 3D artists made a lot of cool models. They don't always make sense but they look real neato.
>>94390425>They don't always make sense but they look real neato.Looking neato is not having the bolt punch you in the eye each time you shoot, or needing your hand to phase through the stock to hold it. Starfield guns are just ugly and bad.
>>94390623Like the ancient amazons who would cut off a breast to fire the bow, so too shall we gouge an eye to fire our guns better. Also we hipfire at a 90 degree angle in the future, picture related, I am a time traveller.
>>94390623I just think they're neat.
>>94389653Netrunners are already the wizards in CP in a sense. Also, Shadowrun.
>>94385265you do not auto hit from stealth with guns retard. only weapons that roll vs a dodge
>>94390679>Like the ancient amazons who would cut off a breast to fire the bowSo, pure fiction invented by a man who never left walking distance of his home town? Understood.
>>94390759also to add on to this - you can simply take your time and use a second skill to get a +2 bonus when shooting from stealth, as it still only takes a matter of seconds and youre not using rounds yet. a scoped smart eq sniper used this way can reliably hit that first shot - but 5d6 won't kill anyone really. even 6d6 would be a huge improvement here. I just don't see any capabilities you gain that you don't have from an assault rifle, which can also suppress or full auto in red, if you want to gangbang someone, the trick is to always roll with lowlight+flash protection, and spend your totally not a surprise round chucking in cheap flash and smoke grenades. this will completely fuck over almost any enemies you'll encounter and it's very affordable. best of all, even non combat speced characters can reliably enough pass the athletics checks for throwing them, so your heavy hitters can heavy hit. no dodges from stealth
>>94390153Pretty much all of the content for Red are cool ideas but awful execution. I rewrote a more interesting framework for Night at the Opera a few months ago https://pastebin.com/SafukR7J. The ReaperAI feels like another incredible idea that just blurps out like a wet fart. I have to rewrite everything to make it useful and that's not good when a lot of game masters just want to buy an adventure they can run out of the box. Also it's been 4 years and we're still getting jobs for chargen characters, almost nothing for characters with 400IP earned. >>94389596I'm pretty sure this killed Witcher, but Red is suffering too. It's so inconsistent with lore (remember how Digital Divas were an all-women band in Data Pack? Not in DGD) that I suspect they're churning writers. I guess they're living that megacorp experience.
ACPA armor makes me angry. Firstly because I'll never play in a game revolving around them and secondly because every time I get an idea for a custom suit and try putting it to paper it never all fits together nicely.
>>94390759>something that is built in lore by all guns are internally suppressed and the bullets are shelless>silencers exist>cant bullet dodge a bullet you cant see nor hearanon?
>>94390623My favourite starfield gun is the square shotgun.
>>94392016you still gotta roll to hit tho.
>>94390759The stealth attack rules get really retarded when you have all the stuff to make a gun virtually silent but the rules go "teehee, guns do not count no matter what". And you also have a battle mechanic from the start where you can't dodge what you can't see coming, which feels like >>94387257 is made because James is a hack like what >>94388155 mentioned already.>>94390850>5d6 won't kill anyone really. even 6d6 would be a huge improvement here. I just don't see any capabilities you gain that you don't have from an assault rifle, which can also suppress or full auto anon, the sniper gun is a long ranged gun for a reason, not everything can be solved by a increase of damage. If someone wants to kill a leader of a gang, I'll make that person earn that effort to. Scour the building, check the times, etc. Player waits on sniping spot, takes aim, shoots. If hit, boom, done. No need to add an unnecessary fight. If you want a fight, bring a grenade or rocket launcher, destroy everything, and get surprised corpos wants the cops or assassins after your ass for all the collateral damage you did.
>>94392105 (Me)Forgot to add that of course a fight occurs if the person misses the shot. 5d6 is fair damage for something the enemy or player couldn't fight back for a while, and the sniper keep taking potshots until the other side takes cover. Then the sniper changes to the other weapon.I know we have this "assault rifle is king" mentality and I agree that its strong, but ARs can't even snipe. Players can have other guns and melee weapons on what situation calls for.
>>94392145 (also Me)i shouldn't be typing so lateI try to be a stickler to the rules, but some things are just so downright stupid and not fun to my players that I ignore them or change them so it fits more.>sniper guns become instant kill when on the very climax on stealth gigs>they autohit on a prone target, like sleeping, or target is not deeply aware of surroundings>they lose the two points above and work normally on regular combat if sniper is spottedthere, how I go at it. Cut off the middleman whenever it fits.I followed the "everyone needs to roll to hit from stealth" thing for a separate ttrpg and players kept rolling low to kill off an enemy that is sitting on 1 hp. While everyone found it hilarious, that is obviously going to quickly be not fun if it keeps happening.
Jesus Christ are you both retarded? It's that simple>If you cant see the attack - you cant use EVASION SKILLso chugging smoke/flashbangs are good unless sb use infrared eyes/echolocation>If you success on stealth check or someone is asleep/extremely tied - enemy is by all means UNABLE to dodge the attack, hence you autohitThis means once you splinter cell onto some gonk, you can aim for their head for bonus damage because you have no penalty this rule is Melee/Brawling/Martial Arts only.As >>94392099 pointed out, you still need to roll to hit. Making a sniper shot for not moving target (say, a dummy on a shooting range) it still requires some skill.A quick house rule to fix the RED retardness - maybe add +8 to hit if you're aiming at someone that is unable to move? BTW, that's wack. like, in RED shooting a guy lying prone somewhere between 25-50m from you is EXACTLY the same DV as doing so for a guy that zooms 370KM/h on a superbike and happened to stop somewhere between 25-50m from ou at the end of their move action.lolI'm sorry I shouldnt call you retards, it's the system. We need a modifier for a moving target, or maybe rather a modifier for still target (ie. someone unconcious)... maybe add +4 if person isnt moving to add for target acquisition. While I most certainly can imagine a situation where someone aims at passed out gonk and still missed because their weapon handling is shit, BUT it should be easier to hit a still target than a moving one, right?
Had any fun stuff in your games, chooms? In mine I went hunting giant gators in the radioactive floridian everglades, since during a biz there one of the locals said he'd stuff a gator if I killed one.Pretty fun time, boating around, paying toll to a group of natives to let us hunt gators in their area, doing drugs to increase stats and becoming gooder.Ended up only wrestling one, since I forgot that choking does body damage straight to hp and I decided to try martial arting it instead while grappled. That with a bunch of bad rolls from me and great ones from the ref cost me an arm and half a face. But the gator was killed with a little help from the pc fixer with MA 15 and 2d6 damage lol.Had to stop the hunt there with only 2 gators, one from me and another from the swamp boys that went with us, since i needed a ripperdoc. Gotta go back there again and make up for the low numbers, since they usually would catch about 10 and sell the meat to up north miami, where restaurants would disguise it as real meat or real chicken. The lessons learned were>do more drugs>get a homebrewed sandy>go for the choking for quick kills and highest quality meat without damage from high calliber guns>giant gators have tuped subdhermals with SP12>giant gators have a 20 base in Brawling and their bite is very heavy melee weapon damage>their bite also halve your armor because fuck you>they might be vulnerable to flashbangs, gotta use them next time>jumping a gator in the water and dragging it on land like a brazilian jaguar is extremely fun
>>94392554Narrative gameplay and in-game gameplay has been a thing- some ttrpgs have this baked into the game too. Dracurouge is what I can name out of my head right now. And even then, the other one said snipers still have to roll to hit in some cases.>I'm sorry I shouldnt call you retards, it's the system.I think its the system and pushing away the dice. The dice is not your friend. It will suck when you made so much effort and rolled a fail, used luck points and still rolled a fail, or become a sitting duck through a whole session.Of course failing by dice can make creative endeavors but you can't really do anything if the dice decides to hate a person. If I see some key ingredients like others mentioned: sleeping, nobody is around, finding the target is the end goal and searching the mansion-like building in is the gig itself, and so on; he's dead. Bonus points if sniper player narrates the kill shot like making sure the mount/sling would not bounce or something. If there is something like awake, somebody walking near the target, and so on- its all for this tense moment. Make the shot.
>>94392554>If you cant see the attack - you cant use EVASION SKILL>>If you success on stealth check or someone is asleep/extremely tied - enemy is by all means UNABLE to dodge the attack, hence you autohitsure but>Snipers are two whole towers away, but still needs to make a contested stealth check for some reasonmake this make sense

Where is the anti-tank missile supposed to be? And also are there any miniatures from that combat zone wargame or third party 3d models of the commando? And final question why are jpgs I save off google not working here? It keeps saying Corrupted file or unsupported file type.

Congratulations, you can now style on all your friends who don't know how to photo edit. I'll even throw in a secret trick that makes you a god among men: "Select by colour". You just wipe that whole #f off in 5 button presses. >>94400204Or you can just copy the url of the webp and paste it into the converter and be done with it, zero needless effort to make your e-peen feel warm.
You probably get asked this often, but I was thinking of picking this up for a friend as a christmas gift since he loved Edgerunners so much. It says that it has the rules, and does it actually? Or does it only have the basic rules and you need to buy a corebook on top of this to actually play the game?
>>94400449You need the corebook as well. Sorry.
One last power armor question. For stuff like the special mini-packs do they have to be in internal/external spaces or can I take a bunch of wire obstacle grenades as carried equipment?
>>94394712I cannot, as it fundamentally doesnt make sense.I think any GM other than most RAW ones (or whatever term is for ones that self rule lawyer themselves) would simply say>yeah, this rule does not apply in this situation as it doesnt match the common senseBUTI could imagine a situation where sniper needs to be stealthy against whatever security is in their tower (not to confuse with the other tower). The picture that >>94387257 posted, the one from the FAQ pretty neatly and accurately describes what the GM's take should be on this - you get a free round (essentially), and either you make a truly devastating attack that one shots someone (which require either them to be little bitch, or you to have extremely lucky damage roll) or you just start one round earlier.I've read the FAQ pic from the above a few times, and it seems the sniper two towers from a target still need to roll stealth. My only advice would be to apply common sense, like a sentient being and ignore a RAW-mandatory stealth check in this situation. But yeah, I already said it's the system that's retarded, not you.

>>94401750>>94401649desu you produce a lot and so fast it's hard to keep up with, lmao. always enjoy your work, it's typically of enough quality that I don't have much to add
I think a cyberpunk game in the vein of necromunda would be pretty fun. building your gang/crew/family/corpo squad and running through a campaign would be pretty fun. Munda as the jumping off point would be perfect tbdesuI also fiddled with DZC to try and make a cyperpunk platoon-ish scale combat game but i couldnt quite get the right feel where acpa, infantry and vehicles felt relevant and differentiated. but it probably could be done
>>94400449You can play Cyberpunk using this kit alone, but it doesn't have all the rules, only like 70% of them. But it was intended as replacement of Jumpstart Kit as a starter
>>94403176I could've sworn there was actually a game like this. But it might have been more kill team (bad) instead of necromunda (good)
>>94403176Chrome berets?
>>94403337i wanted to dabble in a tactical game, something representing mostly limited platoonish level skirmishes. i just like dabbling sometimes, and i thought it would interesting to explore the scale of action of, say, limited corp skirmishes or a lazurus raid. i enjoy the pace of DZC and thought the idea of needing to use infantry to recover objectives in buildings and extract fit well. unfortunately its damage system is just a bit too simple to make vehicles, acpas and infantry all meaningful and varied.chrome berets is a bit more of a strategic level RPG, not what i felt like fiddling with
>>94400449Yeah, this is a great starter if they loved Edgerunners. It doesn't have everything obviously but you can use it just fine on it's own and it has the benefit of all the 2077 extra's added to it.If I didn't already have all the RED books and someone bought this for me to start with I'd be pretty happy with it.
>>94400449you can actually play it without the core rules, but it is a simplified and truncated ruleset. its good for the mission - which is actually a substantial amount sessions - but youd need to get the core book eventually.
>>94356264They added fullborgs back in. Maybe power armor too, I don't keep up with RED dlc.
>>94389653Just use the Witcher’s magic system.Might have to put it through the same Interlock 2020 to RED conversion though.
>>94400449I bought it because I also loved Edgerunners and it took me a while to even realize that the rules presented are different. It also makes Netrunners have more utility both in and out of combat via having magic- I mean quickhacks. All in all, do recommend, will be (hopefully) starting a 2077 campaign soon.
>>94400449Why they bothered with the jumpstart bullshit and didn't just make a proper 2077 themed splat is beyond me.
Well, our late game party has finally arrived in the UK, and it’s a fascist shithole. After visiting the grave of rockerboy Manson and seeing the police crack down on the attendees I’ve decided to use my rank 10 rep 10 rockerboy to overthrow the government there and finish what Manson started. This wouldn’t be the first coup our party has preformed but it’ll be my first one that I’ve done personally, so how do I go about it? The crew is in Amsterdam rn so I have some breathing room to plan and prep before going back to the UK. I’m thinking of using my charisma to try and enlist some folks to help smuggle and gather weapons and ammo to the UK and then once back arming a bunch of people to then take down the royal family. However I do have a knight with an exec squad and lawman backup on my ass so it’s definitely a toss up on if I can arrange this before he kicks my ass.

>>94405875How do you get characters to lose Humanity Points mid-game and not only (I assume) right after installing cyberware ?Did you add house-rules that adds humanity losses in random circumstances?
>>94406170The game has guidelines for Humanity loss and gain outside of cyberware installation and therapy, most of it relating to the alienation from one's wholeness of self inherent to living in a late-stage capitalist hellscape like Night City. It turns out the cyberware wasn't the (only) problem and having no friends, no living family, no hobbies, no disposable income, no prospects for the future, living in a storage crate, eating dog food, and your boss at the warehouse where you work making you cut off your arms because the fucking place was designed for monkeys and baseline humans can't into brachiation is way better at driving people to become nihilistic mass-murderers.
>>94406510>The game has guidelines for Humanity loss and gain outside of cyberware installationI only played CP2020 so far, but from what I glanced, the rules in Red are a bit soft, no?I would love something more defined, including stuff equipment that could help, like the drugs in Edgerunner or the chip there >>94401750I was hoping your group would have a specific homebrew
would sex with a femboy cause you to gain or lose humanity
>>94406744>I was hoping your group would have a specific homebrewWe sure do. What exactly you're looking for?
>>94410037Well. For example:Let's say a character lives in a shitty minimalist pod. Does he loses a fixed amount of HP? Does he roll? Does he loses HP even if he has no cyber enhancements? How do you represent "having friends"? It's an outside of scenario thing, usually. Something that's purely roleplayed. Why would one character have friends and another one don't?
>>94410359>>94410037That's one of the things I missed, when playing 2020:Making humanity something a bit more tangible, consequential in the game, rather than just a binary cap on how much your character can borg up.I was considering this, as a homebrew:>Your humanity loss isn't something you roll once. You keep the total of humanity loss dices you have.>When something happens that can shake your humanity (for example: you completely squash a goon, because of your enhancements. Or you stay connected for ten hours straight), that's when you roll your humanity loss.>If the result pushes you past your total HP, you get a cyberpsychosis episode>However, there's a few stuff that can give you back some temporary HP (some psychotropes, the power of friendship, a good nap...) therefore you still have a chance to come back.>If these solutions fails, however, you can be gone for good.
>>94406170>Did you add house-rules that adds humanity losses in random circumstances?Have you... Uh, like, read the rulebook?
>>94410359>HPI'm assuming you wanted to say HL, although we thought about losing HP for particulary bad living conditions, namely iving homeless in night city would cause 4d6 damage (susceptible to armour) per month, or you might want to roll for random encounters once a week. We figured that humanity loss is enough bad already, but your group can kick it up a notch.>shitty minimalist podCheck our GM Guidebook, there's a section about enhanced downtime, it includes different take on living conditions.Basically the better the living condition the more positive influx on your humanity. Homeless people lose humanity, ultra rich get a free advanced therapy per month.>Does he loses a fixed amount of HP?That's N.Jolly. We use d6 for humanity loss, because we do as the dice commands.>Does he loses HP even if he has no cyber enhancements?Yeah, humanity in RED can be lost for witnessing pretty messed up shit. Corebook provides some examples, like watching a gruesome death (say, someone melted in acid), living in active warzone (such as combat zone) and a few more.>How do you represent "having friends"?Huh? Please elaborate.>Why would one character have friends and another one don't?Mainly because of the character creation, where you just roll for it. But, since this is elaborate make-believe with adults, my best guess would be that you should just talk to your GM and say you want your character to have/not have friends.>True treasure were friends we made along the wayThis is especially true in RED, where the economy of the game near constantly tries to knock you down, to keep a vast amount of friends, favours, life debts, and such. For example my players were just betrayed by woodchipper the fixer, cant wait to see them survive the biotechnika dungeon and then get revenge on that thot
>>94410408Operating word here is *add*.As in: create additional ones.I'm not fond of the "humanity points is stress/sanity" thing. >>94410593>yeah but if it's just a matter of player decision, why would you not decide for your character to have friends, if it turns into a cap on how much cyber implants you can get, with no upside at all? It's called roleplaying.

>>94410900>It's called roleplayingI get that. But it's hard to roleplay something that makes sense for your character when you have mechanical incentive not to follow that path.Especially if it has a high chance to lead you to straight lose your character, which losing humanity does.I mean, yeah sure, wanting to cumulate all the bonuses you can scrap regardless if it makes sense for the character or not is a bit of a shitty behaviour (or at least, doesn't work well in every group). But if a perfectly valid character behaviour (a minimalist loner character is a classic cyberpunk/noir trope) has a high chance of getting the character killed off, with absolutely no upside in exchange, it's very hard for a player to choose that path.
Whenever I need to think up NPCs I always default to exotics and animal people for some reason. I hope it's not a sign of anything

I remember Rtalgames made a votoms RPG but it uses a different system than the one present in maximum metal, and I was wondering if there was a way to convert between the two systems or in general what a scopedog would look like in the MM ruleset?
April Fools day job idea. A crackpot fixer sets the crew up with a job to go into the old world (maybe Chicago since it's overrun with the plague) and secure $1,000's worth of pre-4CW tech. Well, it was worth $1,000's once but not exactly in demand anymore. At least the crew can probably locate and sell an IBM 5100 to some anime nerds and recoup their losses for this expedition.
>>94411004>>94411061>>94410022Anon, the humanity rules were expanded in ERMK, the base RED is fairly simple>Install CyberwareInstant HL>Witness nightmare fuelInstant HL>Prolonged stressHL each week/monthNow, the therapy>500eb, week2d6 Gain>100eb, week4d6 GainIt's that simple. The "touch grass" or "dance till you're dead" Gains were added later, and to be honest, they feel like kind of natural extension of those in RED.
>>94416853doesnt answer the question though does it
>>94416853My absolute favourite thing in ERMK was that they literally made touching grass a gameplay mechanic with benefits to it.>>94411061No, you just have to stop thinking everything through numbers and focus on the storytelling aspect.
Compared to something like Shadworun, how is CybRed about having lots of "obvious choices?"Like, if you look through all the splats will you get a dozen or so cheap items that you have no reason not to buy because they give you a +x to The Thing You Do with minimum costs and downsides?
>>94418005LAJ?
>>94418005Not really. A lot of the stuff are sidegrades, if anything, or just actually poor choices you'd only use for roleplaying purposes. Look at Mr. Amaaaaze's cyberware deals, for example.>>94418032>LAJ?Considering how fucking cheap it is, it amazes me that not every single gonk on the streets isn't carrying it.
I wanna include a faction who are in one of the underwater domes around night city, who my players need to work with because they can crack open a piece of technology they want. I'm thinking of having them go to another dome via a seawalk to kick the inhabitants out, but I'm not sure who should be in there. I was thinking drug production because it would be so secret and would be directly on a trade route, so maybe cartels, but that one feels a little obvious. Any good ideas?
>>94418005Compared to? I don't know. How it is in general? Lots of obvious choices. You'd be a fool not to rock an assault rifle, heavy pistol, and a light armourjack in every engagement. You come out of character creation 80% of the way to your final kit if you know the system.>>94418133"Obvious" in this case is that it "makes sense". If you want to go exotic I'd recommend a posergang in the style of villains in a classic Batman comic. Maybe they haven't found out who their great king of crime is yet so it's just 30 or so frog people hanging out in a dank tunnel.
>>94418353Frog people would kinda go hard. Maybe they explore sewers for sick loot. Even if I don't use that for the dome civilisation I'll use it anyway elsewhere. Adult Exotic Samurai Frogs.

>>94416853>they feel like kind of natural extension of those in RED.I think J Gray or someone mentioned in an article or AMA or something that the humanity update in the CEMK was how it was always supposed to work but they expected players to intuit that from the guidelines in the corebook (somehow. given that it always takes me at least three tries to remember where in the corebook the guidelines even are).
>>94419370A rulebook not providing rules is just asking for arguments. And it's not like they were trying to save trees. The core rulebook is 450+ pages long and only 100 of them were really needed.
>>94418896>>94418935>>94418982Bioshock?
>>94419588I don't know what it is about cyberpunk RPGs that renders them incapable of having coherent rulesets at launch. Even 2020, corebook alone, was still in an incomplete state. Every single edition of Shadowrun requires at minimum three extra rulebooks (the augments book, the matrix book and the magic book) just so every character type can have their full ruleset. RED needed half its rules patched in through later books and DLCs. This genre is fucking cursed.
>>94419129Interesting. How long is it? I have a long reading list to get to but if it's short I could bang it out quick
>>94421433quite short desu. the second book, maelstrom, is also good but in a very different and more cyberpunk direction. I don't really care for the third and final book, behemoth
I know edgerunners live dangerous lives and have to do crazy actions sometimes, but is there a line when crossed that Refs have to ask the players "are you sure you want to do this?"hard mode: doesn't count plainly obvious ones like setting off a nuke
>>94401750Is the killbook being updated soon or is it finished?
>>94422002>Do I believe the action is foolhardy beyond what is reasonable of the player and character?>Do I believe the action is likely to result in death if it fails?>Do I believe this action can only reasonably lead to death?>"Alright so to make it clear you want to do X, that sounds risky. Risky enough that I think it is likely you'll die. You committing to this?">"Okay, this seems dangerous; tell me how you are hoping this will go down.">"A failed roll here might mean death. You committing?"I ask them if they really want to jump off that cliff, and make no effort to steer them away. I just want a verbal confirmation they are consenting to me destroying their character, then I do. It's really just about covering your ass from someone putting their hurt ego in front of their common sense. Let people make mistakes, it's a part of the fun, and a part of getting better at the game.
>>94418005Yes. At Character Creation, put your Body at 4 and grab Muscle and Bone Lace and a Linear Frame. These too items will not only max out your health, deathsaves and allow you to wield some of the strongest weapons in the game, but your fists now deal damage on par with a Rocket Launcher. With your leftover money buy a Poor Quality AR, some Ammo, Light Armor Jack and atleast a couple hits of Synthcoke. Now when you get a bit more money you can buy some Grenades and you've got a perfectly min maxed build capable of dominating most combat scenarios the GM can throw at you. Things you might want to consider buying later on are the Enhanced Antibodies, Toxin Binders and Pain Editor. Most of the broken stuff is the generic starting gear in the Corebook, the splat books are filled with alot of gimmicky items you give to NPCs.
>>94422002ime if the players are about to do something obviously retarded one of three things is happening >GM hasnt properly communicated the situation, place, or world>Players have not paid attention or are otherwise out of touch with the situation>players are trying to trick you, the GM, by having a secret plan behind their stated planin all situations i try to slow things down, get some clear communication about player understanding and intentions, and if i feel like ive done my job and understand what theyre about to do i let them do it
>>94418005I feel the need to caution you that Cyberpunk, even RED, has no guardrails and the GM is encouraged to challenge you up to and beyond your characters abilities. If you build >>94422436 , you're 100% a "Hardened" character session one and the GM is not only justified but encouraged to slap your nuts.If you want to keep things copacetic, don't bust your GM's balls with a wacky build like that.
>>94418005In RED even a +1 is a pretty big deal. there are a few obvious choices - if you go melee it will always either be a very narrowly built martial arts build or youre going for various Mono weapons. Excellent quality smart weapons are king, light armourjack is the only armour anyone who isnt a fullborg will wear, agents are no brainers...but desu RED mostly doesnt let you get as crazy as 2020. most stuff in dlc is sidegrades with some exceptions, notably in gunmass or that rocket launcher splat. Also, resist drugs/torture is surprisingly one of the most important skills in the game. cheap grenades and a modest investment in athletics is also probably a no brainer, because even smoke and flashbangs make a big difference for very low cost
>>94418005>>94422686I cant believe i, and i think everyone else, forgot the real no brainer - you either go ref 8 or a reflex co-processor. dodging bullets is 'uge, bigly. I and a fair few other GMs run a houserule that you need the coprocessor to dodge bullets instead of ref 8, but even that isnt a huge barrier. literally nothing else in the game will give you as big a boost as being able to dodge bullets, and REF is already the single best statif, however, you get past chargen and get enough cash, fullborgs have some real no brainer stuffGemini coating, cyberskull, some of the linear frames, permanent stat boosts - you can either have a very inconspicuous character with hidden vitality or just go full walking tank. keep in mind however that in cyberpunk, theres always a bigger fish. if a big bad beetle borg goes around smashing corpo goons, pretty soon a dragoon will drop on their head. and if they are a dragoon, well, then an ACPA will burst through their house. The gemini will probably live longer
>>94422686A lot of players fetishize LAJ, but then cry when they nearly die catching autofire. It's true though that for most character they're not going to go past HAJ. -4 MOVE is way too big of a penalty for +2 Armor and Metalgear demands a large amount of investment. My character has TUP'd HAJ for heavy combat scenarios, which is a good breakpoint; at 14 SP medium pistols will only damage you on critical hits and heavy ones will have trouble hurting you on average rolls. As an addendum to the linear-frame/bonelace MA chad build, you should note that spends all of your starting cash and requires you to specialize heavily into your combat skills to make use of it (Max DEX, Max REF, Max MA, Max WILL, Max MOVE, Max Shoulder Arms, Max Autofire (optional), Max RTD, Max Evasion...) You're gonna be Solo as fuck, but you'd better have someone else to do the talking for you and a ride so you don't need to take a bus pass everywhere. Someone else will need to fix or replace your armor, patch up your injuries, etc.You also fold like a pretzel to an EMP grenade or microwaver until you spend another 1,000 eb on Internal Body Cyberware Hardened Shielding.
There is a line in Chromebook 1 about the Kyoshi Cyberoptics, that after a headshot, you roll a 1d10 and a roll of 1-3 is a hit to the eyes. This sort of of dovetails with how Metal Gear and Armor Plating have seperate SP for the faceplate and shooting a face is mentioned to be -9 or -10. It certainly is -9 in Mekton. But face shots are never spelt out anywhere in the combat chapter. I didn’t even see the 30% of headshots hit the face until reading one gear piece in CB1.
>>94422764-2 REF is already brutal, especially since it could preclude dodging
>>94422800Players tend to fetishize dodging a lot too. It's not to say it isn't good, but what it mostly does is give you a safety net when you're out of position and cover. People forget evasion eats skill penalties and without fumble protection you can turn a miss into a hit; against Autofire it can be a VERY BIG HIT.More armor, more health, using more cover, better manipulation of range bands; if you're doing all of these things you'll be better off than going all in on just evasion.
>>94422642Honestly it's the GM's problem if they can't handle a minmaxxing player. Red is pretty easy to exploit, so don't blame players for picking the cheese builds.
>>94422855yeah, and, anything a PC can do an NPC can do. If they steal from the wrong person without covering their ass properly, you're well within your rights as GM to have mysterious Borgs in Black who have a surprisingly hard time pronouncing their Ls knock down their walls while they sleep.
>>94422876>I am going to use LAJ, have high REF, and dodge everything!>Okay but NPCs can do what PCs can do too!>Combat is now two squads of guys who are only hit 20% of the time and when they do only have a 40% chance to take damage when they are>Players complain the game is slow>Campaign dies due to lack of interest as combat genuinely takes 3 hours to resolve>Embrace Pondsmith's advice from the 90s and just drop an unfair encounter on them designed to kill them and reset the power level of the campaign>They die>They are not upset you rocks fall'd them>They make new characters who are only hit 20% of the time and when they do-
>>94422764>My character has TUP'd HAJ for heavy combat scenarios, which is a good breakpoint; at 14 SP medium pistols will only damage you on critical hits and heavy ones will have trouble hurting you on average rolls.3 more SP is not a good trade off for the penalties. You gotta remember Heavy Armor not only prevents you from dodging, it cripples your offence aswell. Handguns aren't very threatening in general, so who gives a fuck if your armor stops the lowest tier ones? LAJ also negates Medium Pistols.>As an addendum to the linear-frame/bonelace MA chad build, you should note that spends all of your starting cash and requires you to specialize heavily into your combat skills to make use of it (Max DEX, Max REF, Max MA, Max WILL, Max MOVE, Max Shoulder Arms, Max Autofire (optional), Max RTD, Max Evasion...) You're gonna be Solo as fuck, but you'd better have someone else to do the talking for you and a ride so you don't need to take a bus pass everywhere. Someone else will need to fix or replace your armor, patch up your injuries, etc.Red gives you a ton of skill and stat points to spread around. You really don't have to compromise much to be OP. Athletics, Resist Drugs/Torture, Brawling and Evasion are good skills to have on any character. Aside from that you only need to put points into either Handgun or Shoulder Arms to be a well rounded character. Martial Arts and Heavy Weapons are nice to have, but overlap with Brawling and Athletics which are cheaper to level and more versatile. Autofire is unreliable because of how damage is calculated, to the point where I question if they even playtested the Autofire rules.>You also fold like a pretzel to an EMP grenade or microwaver until you spend another 1,000 eb on Internal Body Cyberware Hardened Shielding.EMPs are a DV15 to negate, so pretty manageable if you didn't dump tech
>>94422997i keep forgetting but always find it amusing that Cybertech is the most important skill for a combat borg lmao
>>94422950This guy gets it.
>>94422997After you've put 8 in DEX, REF and MOVE and dumped only BODY you have 34 points remaining in character gen. The rest of your stats if you distribute them evenly are going to be 5s with only 2 points to spare, which should probably go into WILL for more HP or TECH for cyberware DVs. If you want to get it up to maximum you need to dump the other, or else dump INT, LUCK or EMP.Lets see. If we max Tech and max Cyberware at 8 and 6 respectively, we have a base of 14, which is awesome, cause it means we beat a DV 15 90% of the time; good thing too, because if we don't we've got 4 BODY for the next 20 turns and will proceed to have our asshole gaped wide open.>>94422950With Dodge:"I shoot the gangster""He's going to attempt to dodge">2 dice hit the table"Hit, roll damage">2 to 8 dice hit the table"Crit, roll 2d6">2 dice hit the table"The report of your revolver is accompanied by a blossom of viscera as the boosterganger's chest cavity evacuates across the far wall."Final score: Four interactions between the ref and player, which could be simplified by rolling damage with the to hit roll. DESU the ideal minmaxed character, theoretically speaking, is one with very low move, body, ref and dex at chargen who somehow gets about 55,000 eddies for a dragoon with perfected hydraulics. if you can get about 100k ish you can be truly vile by hardening your cyberware, taking some camelon coatings, and chucking on a few things like auto injecting synthcoke, speedware, targeting scopes, smart excellent quality weapons etc etc. you should be able to end up with 16 body and something like 8 everywhere else, and as long as you've pumped cybertech as well as the standard skills you should be an absolute menace even before tech upgrade memes. thats pretty much the only truly abusive thing you could create and it requires more or less 100k eddies.
>>94418032About that, how is "destroyed beyond repair" made? I mean, mechanically. Sure, there are a few situations where you wouldn't hesitate a bit such as melting an item in the vat of acid, burning a car to the crisp, grinding a shield into dust and so on. But let's take a closer look on actual situation that happened.>Party arrive on scene in car>They get out, but are immidiately welcomed with supressive fire>All fail their roll, and all decide to hide behind car>machinegunners keep autofire on the car>Player retaliate but that's irelevant to this post>Car dies (I mean drops below 0HP)>Car is destroyed, but since there are no rules for it, GM goes with common sense and states that it still provides cover, but once car dropped to 0 they cannot drive with it (RAW).>GM thinks a moment and says the car (now a piece of cover) will have the same amount of HP as it had before, once that second pool of HP is depleted it will no longer provide cover, and wil be destroyed beyond repair.>we agree that it is logical enough to workWell we figured it out on the go, but it was dissapointing that there are no rules for that. Despite being over 460 pages long RED is suprisingly lackluster.

>>94422770Actually it’s -7, -10 is a shot to eye so long as you follow through the Mekton logic.-4 to hit location, -3 for hand/face and another -3 for the digit/eye.In Mekton it’s -3,-3 and -3.
>>94422002The time my players picked a fight with the Triad to save Aisha was definitely a 'please reconsider' moment. And it has really changed the game as the crew regularly wakes up to having guns (and rockets) shot through their sleeping containers and offices, or having AV drive-bys on their nomad garages. I really tried to stress these were grown-up bad guys, too hardcore for cyberpunk red, but I was ignored.
Another Golden ChromeMostly balance changes>Corvette cyberlegs add +3 MOVE instead of +2, take 4d6HL instead of 2d6It's still the budget option for people who dont want speed frames>Bigger Popup Mount is now 4 slots instead of 3>Adrenal Boosters now explicitly cannot raise REF to more than 10>Memory Nexus works only on INT, and TECH based skills, not sure how I missed it, but it was always the intention. This way you'll have multiple ways to obtain legendary 10 REF, such as>base 8 + Glands + synthcoke>base 8 + TUp Synthcoke>base 8 + TUp Glands>Base 8 + Gene modding x2>combining them all still result in REF 10, but is an option for players with lesser baseAnd so on. All options are capped at 10 now, and you're free to choose whether you want a BIG investment and get permanent REF increase, or just go with medium class temporary option of glands, or straight up budget option of getting high as fuck.It DOES work with other stats (i.e. You can boost INT by ridiculous amount) but no way in hell I'm gonna introduce a cyberware for every stat. Get creative damnit, RED's really easy.
>>94423479I have no idea if there was a specific name for these, but those tanks that kind of work like drones or robots? I think it was said somewhere that big corps have them. Though it might be hard to play up their war tactics, and I don't know what general threat level they belong to.

Any tips for a new guy who is looking to try running cyberpunk for his group if I can convince them?
>>94428200If they're old school grogs or gear-queers, you might have luck getting them into 2020, but if they're under 30 you'll probably want to use RED. It's more accessible with less paperwork.Make sure to read the Ref section two or three times in the Core rules. The game runs best when you organize it more like a television serial rather than DND and it's got a lot of good advice for that.
>>94428317Alright. Other than the core book are there any expansions, official or fanmade, that you would recommend/are necessary?
>>94428317>>94428419For RED. Sorry, should have specified that.
>>94428419Most expansions and new rules are free on the R. Talsonian Games webpage under a section labeled 'downloadable content'. Beyond that "Black Chrome" is a gear book with a variety of extra cybeware, weapons and so forth. There are also DLCs on full body conversions, exotics and drones that are all exclusive to the "Interface RED" compilation PDFs though they aren't hard to find.So far as fanmade stuff goes, you'll find a variety of stuff, but until you get a good handle on the official stuff you might not know what fits your group. I will say that above most others, the stuff on montreal dataterm is pretty well balanced to core stuff and is made with minimal houseruling in mind (with the addition of the Drone Remote in Forlorn Hope+, you can now run pretty much the entire catalog without changing any rules). We have pdfs of fan gear catalogs and so forth come into the thread often, so keep your eyes out for new versions.
>>94428419I forgot also that the Danger Gal Dossier, though not exactly much to look at, will give you a fucking wall of NPC statblocks to use straight or as guidelines for new NPCs.You could confortably run your game however out of the core book with the DLCs off the website and probably not lack for content.
>>94425941Not homebrewanon but I've got some ideas for military tactics.AV Superiority: A fitting number of hardened mooks and lieutenant or two are in an AV with a pilot (nomad 2 mook, Pilot Air Vehicle +12). Their goal is to use assault rifles/heavy weapons from about 50m away (their ideal range, and a poor range for handguns/shotguns aka edgerunner favorites). If the enemies get close, the pilot moves and while moving the attackers can roll complimentary skill checks for +1 on the next attack. Attacking the mooks inside is difficult (cover system nonsense aside should at least be -2 complex task, perhaps more). The only real counterplay here is going where AV's cannot, or the fixer calls his local RCL to hook them up with rockets and assault rifles (you can get a poor assault rifle at any time since it's only 100eb). Tactical Grenades: Ridiculously tech-upgraded grenades (the best thing is they can't be looted after used!). Smoke grenades where the smoke is so hot that IR can't see through it, combination grenades like the AP/EMP mentioned earlier, an AP grenade that takes out 3 armor, etc. I could even see grenades where dodgers have to roll twice and take the worst result. Rambo: Proximity traps and weapons. Old-school types like to use wire but you can use lasers that send a trigger via radio to whatever is waiting to be detonated, swinging very heavy melee weapon, or other payloads. Instead of actually placing them on the map you could roll a 1d10 (or 1d6) and if it lands on a 1 the player's goal space is trapped. They can make a DV15 Perception check to stop, but say if they were running to cover and realize there is a landmine behind it, they might not have enough MOV to get to safety.
Just how busted can max metal stuff get? I'm thinking of doing a one-shot with them and in the past I've often underestimated what parties can handle, so I want to get a basic idea of how much I can throw at them
>>94428419Gunmass, cybermass, gearmassthe base building DLC Tales from the red is OK for giving you a oneshot or two to dip your toes in. don't have a stitch to wear is a great one as a jumping off point for players and GMs both gameplay and fluff wise, imhoread the back half of the Black Chrome gearbook if you want to get a better grasp on the economy of red.You could also lift some of the chapters of Hope Reborn as stand alone jobs with minimal work of refluffing, particularly the second to last, the second one and the heist
Is it possible to use the Forlorn Hope bar as a hub for source as income? Sort of like keeping the Apartment in the titular apartment gig in REDa player wants to make a restaurant on one of the floors
New player here. Trying to make a sneak thief Netrunner in Cyberpunk RED. How does this look as a stat and skill spread? Any suggestions or things I've over or under valued?
>>94430036I don't see why not. are you using the OG forlorn hope ala 2020 or are you doing the hope reborn rebuilt and relocated forlorn hope
>>94430087Take a point out of one of your dump skills to max out INT. Otherwise seems good. Also I'd put some points in weapon skills so you don't have to rely on Quickhacking for combat.
>>94430212Dump being body or reflexes? Any suggestions on what to skills dump to get some weapon skills? At the moment I'm, thinking maybe cybertech/basic tech. I can probably live without those. I assume for weapon skills handgun would be a good option?
>>94430087no combat skill and you invest more in Cool skills despite the lower stat than in Int or Tech skills. electronics tech is indeed important, forgery is also something I'd suggest putting at least 2 in, it goes nicely with your high tech stat and it's appropriate. you can't dodge bullets so I'd probably drop evasion to 4. Library search should always get a +2 from your agent so I might bump that down as wellsince you're going sneaky beaky with high Dex and meh rep I'd suggest investing modestly in melee because of auto hit to the head from stealth. you want to be able to at least contribute something to a combat, though athletics will also help you chuck grenades. as time goes on a mono katana or monowire, maybe a throwing melee weapon seem like smart buys if you do, while at chargen I'd set aside a few eds for at least smoke and flashbang grenades which your teammates will love. Look into investing in some agent hacking tools at low level or chargen, though I'm sure your cyberdeck stuff is eating into that budget. it'll get used out of your electronics skill and can have a lot of utility. past that I'd suggest making your melee choice a pop out when you've got the cash, coating it in poisons, investing in lowlight cyberoptics or cyberglasses, and obviously virtuality in your eyes, and eventually an internal cyberdeck. Drones could also be well used if you spring for an internal agent and chyron. there's a lot of ways you can make this evolve
>>94430087>Not having luck at 8Real Answer: Maybe bump up the brawling or melee up a bit, especially if you want to lean into the roguish archtype, but that'll be hard to netrun next to a port and fist fight if people are at range.
Is there no optic camo cyberware in RED?
>>94430270only for fullborgs
>>944302294 is the optimal amount of Body. Ref is good if you want Guns, but also 8 REF lets you bullet dodge. If you don't want to put that many points into Ref you can either set it to 7 and take some Synthcoke (best consumable in the game) or buy the Reflex Co-Processor for 500 eddies. Also Cybertech is pretty useful, lets you negate EMPs that shut down cyberware. Basic Tech is good for Techs, but meh for other classes. Tech would be a good multiclass option for your build.
>>94430155rebuilt one
>>94430237>>94430314So for dodging bullets, I'd need to hit 8 in reflex then. I must have missed that. Assuming I had reflex 8, would evasion 6 make sense then?
>>94430358yeah but i also think its not totally necessary since your character should have a tertiary role in combat anyway. grenades and a single combat skill are enough
>>94430383So if I'm not going for 8 to dodge bullets, and I'm not going to be using guns or driving, is there any reason not to dump reflexes down further?
>>94430394It's good to not tank it entirely, because staying strapped is smart in NC and you want to be able to at least hit with your pistol.I would also take the other anon's "4 Body is optimal" with a grain of salt: It's only optimal to get the most benefit out of slamming up to 12 Body with an internal linear frame. Otherwise, you'll have low HP and your brawling dice will be tiny, among other problems.
>>94430394not really no.
>>94430422Fair point. I always feel stretched thin with this sort of thing. I don't want to be bad at anything, but that just leads to being mediocre at everything.
>>94430394desu i think your stats are pretty well optimized its more your skills - but you could toss another point onto cool if you wanted.
>>94430087also, why dont you tell us a bit about your character? what do you want to get out of this spread gameplay wise, and what is your fluff for this character? we talking a NEET, a suave heist type, a scammer, a blackhat hacker, a cat bugler, robin hood, a selfish prick, a klepto?
>>94430491I take it you think I'm putting too much into social skills and should move those points into other things like melee or more tech or int skills?
>>94430503Well, after going through the life path thing basically what I have in mind is a hacker for hire/cat burglar. He grew up as a corpo brat whose dad was a runner for (insert corp here, I'm thinking militech), but his parents ended up dead and he and his little sister ended up on the streets. Character motivation is basically to provide for his sibling and ideally get her off the streets and back into the good life by whatever means necessary. He's a bit of an asshole. As far as he's concerned if you ain't family you don't matter and he tends to be distrusful of others and manipulative. Takes gigs from the local fixer. Doesn't care if he's fucking over a corp or stealing grandma's pension as long as he gets his, but he tries to avoid jobs that will bring down too much heat on him if at all possible because he doesn't want his sister dying as retaliation for work he's done. What I want to be able to do is either sneak in, break in, or talk my way in to places where he can use netrunning to get data for eddies. Though out of the three if I had to drop one I guess talk my way in is the one to drop. I like netrunning. I think it is cool, so I wanted to play a runner and I like this concept from the rolls so I'm pretty happy with it. Feel like the "man dude your character is an asshat" to "wait you were doing it all for your sister?" kind of moment with the group would be fun
>>94430535Also figure he's absolutely not above knifing someone. The ideal is to do things quietly and without it being traced back to you.
>>94430551>>94430535>>94430505then what i would do is lean a bit into that, drop the ref a bit and boost the cool a bit, take a bit in forgery, take a bit in melee, lower your evasion and libary search just enough for that, and dont expect him to shine in combat. but youll be sneaky, decently social, and good at getting your team in and out of places. melee will let you get a decent first strike in through sneaking and defend yourself, and a couple of status grenades will let you boost the rest of your team. from there, youve got a million bits of gear and cyberware to go for, but i would focus on your deck and probably agent hacking (its in a dlc - theres also a cyberdeck dlc too). Drones, poisons, thermal optics, mono weapons - theres a million things to blow your cash on. That skillset should help you make money, provided someone else in your party can shoot and catch bullets for you.
>>94430584Question, how important are endurance and resist torture/drugs? I figured those would be worth having a bit in, but would they be a waste of points at start for what I'm going for?
>>94430625i cant recall endurance being used for anything importaant but resist torture drugs is, hilariously, one of the most used skills in the game. any time you role against poison or being tasered or sleep gas or anything which would incapacitate you in any way its rolled vs resist torture/drugs. cybertech is used the same way to resist the effects of emps or anything else which might impact your cyberware
>>94430639How bad is dumping Luck?
>>94430654youre going to get mixed opinions on that, lol. i dont think luck is a skill i would either dump or pump, personally. I also dont think minmaxing stats is all that necessary unless youre going for a few builds - an optimized martial artist is very stat intensive, for example
>>94430625Endurance is checked most commonly for lifestyle problems, but it could be checked more often in survival type situations or from constant running/swimming/etc.RTD is a meme how prevalent it is: Drugs can be very useful and dodging the secondary effects is helpful. It helps you resist poison and a variety of other detrimental effects (teargas, flash bangs, etc). >>94430654There are two reason to not dump luck: The first is to jack up your degress of success on autofire or keep from missing aimed shots, which can be clutch. The second is that there is no character or player who has ever looked at a check and said "Wow, I guess a +1/+2/+3/... wouldn't help". Large luck pools give you some extra consistency and can save you when nothing else will.
>>94430584So looking at purchases. I start with 2550 eddies. 500 for a neural link and 500 for a decent cyberdeck are basically mandatory. I figure an agent for 100 is a good idea. I think having cyber eyes that can see virtuality would be smart, so 200 for two cyber eyes and then 200 for the virtuality upgrade for each of them. 50 for a combat knife. 200 for Light armor jacks for my body and head. 160 for some generic chic clothes. 100 for a Flashbang and 100 for two smoke grenades since those have been recommended as something I should pick up. that leaves me with 540 for buying programs and other odds and ends. I figure I want Eraser for 20, and Worm for 50. I figure both of those go well with my intended playstyle since the worm helps me get in and the eraser helps me leave no trace and that's important to me. That leaves me with 5 more slots for my cyber deck. I'm honestly not sure what to pick up. Picking up a sword and shield just makes sense those seem pretty basic and required, I figure an armor program makes sense. Maybe cheap black ice like the raven? or just two more programs cause giving up two slots for non preem black ice just kinda feels bad. I'm open to suggestions and advice if anyone has any.
