Stormraven is perfectly legal and can carry a Redemptor Dreadnought; for a brief period you had DA ironstorm lists with Stormravens dropping them on objectives... and it was ok I guess?

I think you're overestimating the usefulness of having 600 points worth of models inside a transport, where they can't do anything. With the orca being nearly 300 points, that's nearly half of your army in one spot. A good opponent will be able to play around it to either score objectives or pulverize the other half of your army. It's like the people who start half their armies in deep strike and then wonder why they don't have any VP on turn 3.

GW is going to release a gaggle of ratlings. I plan on buying 2 of the KT squads. I already own 20. I own the 2 BS ratling characters. That diorama kit may or may not get rules. I want ratlings that are worth taking. I want ratlings that don't cost 12 freakin' points per model.
>>
>>94358745
>You have dozens of unique primaris lieutenants
Pretty much all of those are limited edition shit that GW don't sell at all.
There's currently 6 that they sell.

SW Lt. but he is stuck in a 100£ SW patrol box.

The BT castellan.

The new multipart Lt.

A lieutenant with sword and pistol (redundant because the multipart Lt. Exists at the same price and has the same options in the kit)

Phobos Lt. (redundant kind of)

And bladeguard Lt. with stormshield who was formerly a limited edition thing (also redundant since GW could've just added a storm shield option into multipart kit)

I think GW should remove the phobos one, the Bguard one and the generic "Lt. With sword and pistol) kits, because they are redundant.
>>

If this was true then shit like inceptors, suppressors, phobos and desolators would see more use. But they don't because they look like shit.
It's also the reason why GW never has made an independent kit for things like suppressors, and why GW tries at every opportunity to shove them into value boxes with other units.

>>94358941
Yeah, I don't actually hate this even if it still gets shit wrong, like gretchin just being bigger instead of being the Brainboyz of yore. It also reminds me of a schizo thought I had a while back.
War in Heaven Blood Axes would have modeled themselves off of Necrons and dressed up in funny headdresses and cloaks
Blood Axes themselves were developed by the Old Ones specifically so that orks would always have an inborn desire to reverse engineer the tech and tactics of the predominant enemy race of any era so that the old ones are never fully caught off guard again

Anything with 3 inch deep strike would see use.
Also lets be honest here, if a unit only sees use because it has busted rules for WAACfags to abuse, then it is not good.
It just tells you that only people who buy that stuff are people who have no care or interest when it comes to aesthetics.
>>
>>94358968
I don't think orks would have had the same klan divisions that they developed into 40k (especially how they now retconned those into being shit they developed in response to the great crusade) but I do absolutely agree that WIH krorks should have had a heavy handed element of repurposing the opponent's tech against them in much the same way orks nowadays are "themed" after human scrap first and foremost since humans are the main galactic power

Possible, they look so much like AoS stormcast that I can't shake the feeling they're just reworked stormcast models. That would explain why they have so few notable details on their armor or wings. Compare picrel to >>94358770. The old models were busy with iconography, winged motifs all over, scrollwork, and even jewelry.
>>
>>94358968
1. It's contentious as to whether Brainboyz refers to the master species of the Old Ones, as their disappearance from the galaxy roughly correlates to the fabled rise of the Orks over the Brainboyz, or a lost race of greenskins which corralled the Ork race in their height.
2. It was Snotlings which were alluded to be possibly the degenerated remnant of Brainboyz, not gretchin.

>>94358984
They definitely would, it's hard coded into them and fits into the concept as a permanently war-ready species because they are grouped by various specialties for carrying wars out.

Got a leviathan captain for cheap, cut his hands off and replaced them with the normal primaris techmarine hands, shaved the wrist gadget off the left arm to stick on his, chopped up the pauldron to steal an emblem for his pauldron which I just sloppily drilled into and filled with sprue goo to close gaps, got this flexible cog trim from zinge after trying and failing to make my own from plasticard and greenstuff
Not sure where the dickflap came from, found it in my bits bag after giving up on making a plasticard one
torso icon comes from a kataphron backpack, same with the tube on the back of the terminator cowl that the mechadendrites and storm bolter are mounted too
tubing is flexible 14 gauge coiled wire, this specifically: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0987GY8WF
antenna is from the infiltrator kit I think, head is just from the normal terminator box
definitely a lot of things that could be done more efficiently than I did but this was my first foray into more in-depth kitbashing beyond some hand and head swaps for my terminator captain

Iirc is the creative lead nowadays or something, at best I think he probably just draws concept sketches for the units and then some other dude/s then sculpt the models themselves.

But it is true, someone at GW got lazy and/or fucked up at their job at somewhere in the production line.
I know people joke about GW making "sanguine knights", ie. actually faithfully updated SG with wings and nice ornamentation, but I would take that over the updated "Sanguinary Guard" we got.

They're *always* catalogued as different subspecies. While gretchin have a modicum of low cunning and vicious intelligence, and are typically half the height of the average human, snotlings are consistently characterized as viciously *stupid*, squabbling like tantruming toddlers over useless items like an interesting shaped piece of bone or rock, barely capable of completing or even remembering assigned tasks. They are also generally not much taller than a foot and a half, outside of fungus and the smallest of squig species they are utterly at the bottom of the entire Ork ecosystem.

Technically, no. It's just that only one unit uses it (Suppressors, which IIRC never had their own kit) and that unit isn't particularly good. Their job is to shoot but they only hit on a 4+ which stings. Overall it's kind of a schizo unit design since it simultaneously wants to be mobile (12" move, Fly) but is burdened with BS 4+ and Heavy weapons.

One. If problem with the Avatar of Khaine, the Swarmlord and big Daemons like Princes and Greater Daemons is they are disposable, replaceable or respawn. Thus killing named characters or theoretically important figures has no permanent effect. A comparable example are mecha shows with escape pods. Writers more easily write
>X was BTFO and their mech explodes
while the characters themselves survive. So long as there's no limit on how many shards of Khaine there are to make Avatars, he can job forevermore.

My experiment with handbrushing on Vallejo primer (which is made for airbrushes) seems to have gone well.
Just like putting on a base coat, it's all about even coverage and getting 100% of the exposed model surface.
The trickiest bit seems to be that it doesn't do well when thinned with water; the primer gets very watery and blotchy if you try to use it with a saturated brush. It'll run off of stuff.

This has always been funny to me. At least in the War of the Beast, Imperial Fists were defending Terra against the worst Ork assault of all time. Blood Angels nearly got wiped out on an exploratory mission.

Dante would be one of the only Blood Angels in the current era who was there for that. Mephiston is the playable Librarian in Space Hulk, but that's almost 600 years later.

How could you possibly follow Dante into battle knowing what happened on the Sin of Damnation?

lexicanum says otherwise

Kadeus was a former Chapter Master of the Blood Angels[2]. As a Captain he took part in Chapter Master Sangallo's disastrous Space Hulk cleansing operation, which became known in the Chapter's history as the Secoris Tragedy. Sangallo and a majority of the Blood Angels Chapter were killed beneath the claws of thousands of Genestealers, leaving only fifty Battle Brothers, led by Kadeus and Captain Dante, to escape the battle. In the wake of Sangallo's death and his Chapter's decimation, Kadeus would go on to become Chapter Master and led his Chapter from the brink of extinction[3]. During his time as Chapter Master Kadeus wielded the blade Challenger, a relic of the Chapter, and battled the Tzeentch Daemon Prince Sethselameth; after it emerged on the Battle Barge Bloodcaller. He banished the daemon and a mural of their battle was created on the ship.[1]

Kadeus would later die in the great audience chamber (Grand Annex[3]) of the Blood Angels Fortress-Monastery on Baal. Before his death Kadeus would name Dante as his successor[2] and give him the Axe Mortalis.[3]

yes. Tiger Claws were successors of the astral claws. Marines Earrant also are descendants of the Eagle Warriors. Black Templars also (allegedly) created a successor chapters but i forgot the name
>>
>>94359406
as far as I understand how the process works, the tithe of geneseed, from both a first founding chapter and a successor chapter gets grouped up somewhere by the lords of terra and it's them who take the decision to fund a new chapter from the stocks of geneseed they have, and they just pick it from the sperm bank of the [(first founding chap)+successors] instead of specifically from one chapter or successor, so they always end up being a successor of the supergroup of blood angels, rather than a successor of something specific
or maybe they can be a successor of a successor but they try to scrub these kinds of ties to avoid further layers of allegiances

although sometimes existing marines of a chapter or successor chapter can be kind of "founding members" of a brand new chapter, so a known genealogy might be possible

on a similar note I still find it very weird that there isn't a more personal kind of ancestor worship in a chapter:
each and every marine is a revered hero in his own way and a new aspirant will often have to be raised with the geneseed extracted from a particular marine, either dead (adding a certain level of responsibility in the aspirant to fill the shoes of the dead hero) or alive (making the new aspirant probably look up the geneseed donor as a new father figure in addition to the primarch)
but I think noone ever explored these kinds of relations as far as I know
>>

Almost all the 40k art is impossibly large buildings, impossibly huge battles on flat terrain, or isolated individual units in combat.
But the whole intrigue of 40k is that it's so big and so varied that basically any combination of stuff can exist within it. You can unironically have medieval knights with laser guns riding t-rexs and it makes sense.

Also, give me more hive city living. Show me daily life in the middle of the city, not in the depths and not in the tallest spires.

And it was pretty effective at neutering my shooting - he was stacking armor of contempt on it for -1 to hit, -2ap, so shooting his big units and crusader was super inefficient.

He didn't play for primaries that hard, though, and played very cagey with some big expensive units that didn't commit fast enough to get their damage in.

They need all their damn resin replaced and actual models for all the units they have lost.
Mechanically they are just too fragile and have no real way to hold primary without getting wiped off the board before next turn. They need some kind of durable anvil unit or Grotesques need to be cheap enough that you can afford to throw away 6 to hold a point for a turn.
>>
>>94359510
That would be a cool idea for a space marine chapter or a BL story. Unknown founding. Got mostly wiped out. Just 30-50 guys none of them older than 100 years with no leadership among them but control of 10,000 serfs a battle barge and a bunch of line ships figuring out what to do where to go and what they are doing all of this for.
>>
>>94359518
If you get to that point the chapter would generally just be dissolved and reintegrated into its parent chapter.
Being one of the original legions BA would just get reformed by taking marines from their successors like the IF did

It sounds like a piloting issue or not having enough ability to beat lots of vehicles with melee (though if we're honest this is a bit of a theme with marines now, the only thing that can chew up vehicles like that are TH+SS termis and smash captains)

Yes and no.
We have in the fluff in the Tiger Claws who were the successor chapter of the Astral Claws.
Sometimes new chapters are founded by taking an already existing chapter say Fulminators and then telling them to take some marines and new recruits and then making them form another chapter.
And with this one the chapter would be called an Ultramarines successor since it is UM geneseed, but they'd also be specifically descended from the Fulminators.

But what I know the whole procedure for the foundings isn't really 100% standardized.
You can largely do whatever kind of.
What I did for my chapter is that they are Salamanders successors but they specifically descend from the Black Dragons using their genestock, and I did that because they are my favorite and I like the mutation they have.

Fix the game itself before any factions are fixed. No longer a board game, and certainly no longer a wargame, 40k has become an expensive, physical card game that has gone too far and paradoxically not far enough with its "Simplified, Not Simple" mentality. Returning it to a wargame, an abstracted simulation of battles, would fix nearly everything about it because it would open up more faction identity, ability, and fun. The homogeneous bullshit that 40k (and factions) are now seems like an insult to the intelligence of its players.

Inb4 older editions, HH, or "play Crusade!!!" that someone will inevitably say. Older editions are great, and HH (2.0) is decent, but not everyone wants to play them (or should) so it can be difficult to get games, let alone a campaign, going. Crusade is just dogshit because it's tied to the banality of current 40k, which is again dogshit.

I have really mixed feelings about the upcoming Imperial Knights bundle. On the one hand GW scammed us with removing weapon sprues and limiting building options by like 80%. On the other hand I missed all previous Knights bundles and it still feels like a decent deal for starting a Chaos Knights army. I want to stick with 1000-1500pts games anyway so it's a playable out-of-the-box army and I can kitbash most missing gear with Helbrute leftover bits.

unless the cost of the bundle gives you, essentially, a free knight, it's a scam for imperial players
I don't even know why you would want it as a chaos player, huntsmen and executioners are your worst armigers and are arguably worse than their loyalist counterparts, you have access to karnivores and brigands which hit on 2s and have missiles for chaff

meaning that the redundancy, and treating some of them like shit might have been intentional so he could still cover some roles if one specialist were to turn on top of trying to pigeonhole half of them into chaos and have a modicum of control of the situation when shit hit the fan

it's definitely some bullshit born from the poor planning and writing of the heresy, but it's a theory that for once makes sense with the faustian gambling devils we're talking about

hear me out, what if it was the exact same box they had before with the same armigers and canis rex
selling knights players a knight that can only make a paladin (the bondsman ability is good I suppose) or errant (good) but with no top mounted weapon that you need is a huge fucking scam
>>
>>94360029
You mean slaughterclaws? I have about half kilo of Chaos Spawn bits which should be useful for kitbashing organic and meaty claws.
For missile boxes, I have quite a lot of spare Rhino bits. At some point I bought about 10 Rhino gear sprues for about 2EUR each with a bonus bag of Chaos bits. I won't lie by saying I have about 12kg of various 40k bits I bought from two LGSs shutting down during Corona. I managed to build a 2500pts CSM army just with a single CSM start collecting and contents of those lots.
>>
>>94360006
The box is bad because it doesn't come with alternative weapon loadouts for other knights.
Knight kits are kino because they contain multiple weapons for multiple knight variations. If you magnetize them, you can switch out the loadout and get an entirely different unit.
What you see on the box cover is what you get.
>What would be a good box then?
Same thing as the 9th chaos knight box set. Two wardogs, one big knight, and all of the extra weapons included. Maybe include some dice or a codex.

With Finnic lore.
Valhallans suck ass as they are basically russians.
Except for that one top pic that comes up when searching them.
Its basically a Finn with two trench coats.
Finnish lore that I have encountered, one blood pact, chaos aligned merc, tuonoetar eldar world and fists of lagus that are basically aztecs or something with name possibly referencing finnish armour division

Very gay. Anyway, an airbrush is a great tool and when used can reduce the time taken for basecoating alone, not to mention other steps. In combination with brush painting it's great, though I don't do every single thing with it. As an aside, the "slapchop" bullshit has been an overall negative to the hobby. That and contrast paints.

I'm really sorry to tell you this, anon, but the old FW is dead. Sometimes, the Necromunda stuff is great, but for 40k there's nothing because nothing interesting can be done with the dogshit that 40k has become. No more special tank shells or entire armies or amazing, out-of-the-way campaigns with the presentation of an in-universe history book. It's gone, and it's been gone since FW became Specialist Games Studio (and Kinrade left). I'm saddened by its loss, too. I look at 40k now and weep.

i think the official story is that surviving Cadian regiments got settlement rights for other planets and are busy pumping out more Whiteshields in the name of the Emperor. between that and the fact that Cadia has created sent out countless numbers of men and women for literal thousands of years, and its common for regiments to get stood down and used as founding populations for newly reclaimed planets, and that Cadian combat doctrine and equipment is about as 'standardized' as you can get in the Imperial Guard, there's still going to be Cadian regiments until about 20 minutes after the setting gets blown up and we get AoS'd

Also unless you're playing blood axes your Orks shouldn't be rank-and-file.

that makes sense, ill just move them one by one and hopefully my opponent doesnt get annoyed with it

im trying to build a list atm and outside the 6x20 squads of boyz and 3 painboyz i have no idea what else to include. maybe a warboss or two, a weirdboy could be fun. a battlewagon to transport 20 boyz in sounds good too, but other than that im kinda lost

Two games across two weekends and both time I basically tabled my opponent with what feels like an average roster.

you have access to what's probably the best tank in the entire game with a fire prism that has essentially indirect fire without any penalties AND you have the ability to turn any roll into a 6

I don't use Fire Prisms or Night Spinners, thr toughest things I run are a Wraithlord and a Wave Serpent.

ok what about this for a list

big mek in mega armour
3 x painboy
3 x warboss (one with ferocious show off)
1 weirdboy (with bloodthirsty belligerence)

6 x 20 boyz (each squad with 2 rokkit launchas)
5 x meganobz

battlewagon (for one of the boyz squads)
trukk (for mek and manz)

Are combat patrols still the go to new player product
>>
>>94361770
Generally, yes but it depends on the faction.
Personally I would always suggest a basic troops box first before committing to a combat patrol. You might learn a lot from your first box and it's a much lower commitment.
>>
>>94361770
For cost savings yes, but honestly I wouldn't recommend a big set like that for someone new, get something cheaper , because you also need to buy tools, paints and brushes
Then you need to see if you actually like painting

If you have someone who wants to play with you, then Combat Patrol becomes a bit better as a first purchase because theres rules to pit them against each other
>>
>>94361659
Weirdboys are great, and warbosses give you some much needed 10+STR for when your Boyz deal with higher toughness threats. Warboss+nobz in a trukk always is nice, too.
>>94361728
Not bad at all.
>>
>>94361759
Tistaminis can occasionally be cheap, sort by price in used and look at the cheapest worst painted stuff you can just strip
>>
>>94361770

>>
>>94361705

>>
>>94361842
>I'm honestly more into the painting than the playing part.
In that case seriously whether you enjoy 40k's lore and aesthetics enough to eat the price markup from the game piece value instead of painting literally anything else
Wargaming minis also usually don't make great display pieces
>>
>>94361881
keep at it, on the local discords im on often a new player will pop up who has his first 500 points, look for someone like that and eventually you'll find a few people like that you can do 2v2 1000 points or something
Your LGS should have a warhammer night to or something?
>>
>>94361916
