Contracts compare Warhammer fantasy, Empire of man and Age of Sigma, Cities of Sigma
>>
>>94387944
You first, lazybones.
>>
Ones a joke and a second fiddle at best.

The other is a main star at worst.
>>
>>94388007
But which is which?
>>
Lamest faction in Fantasy vs lamest faction in AoS
>>
>>94389515
What about the British and the Beast men?
>>
Age of Sigmar needs to take what they did with cities of sigmar in 3rd edition and do it to every other faction in the game. Age of Sigmar will never not be compared to fantasy and treated like a fanfic of the old world until it truly divorces itself from it in visual designs, characters and factions.
Most of the armies in the game just being a different take on a faction from warhammer fantasy makes it feel lame. Think about it, whenever a new warhammer fan gets into the hobby via total war or vermintide they often get confused by age of sigmar and just go "o-oh okay what?" whenever someone explains it since it inherently sounds like some weird fanfic shit when you explain it to them
>so there's like these magical realms and all my favorite characters from the old world are like gods and shit now and they fight cosmic battles with magic powered armies of super soldiers!
>uhh sure bro sounds cool i guess haha

CoS is what secondaris think Empire was. The actual main character of the setting, from who's PoV all events take place
>muh Stormcast
Azyr, where SCE come from, is literally the least explored part of the setting
>>
>>94389972
The funny thing is most age of Sigma stories I've seen or heard cuz I read audio books has gun trick from Gotrek and Maleneth Witchblade. By the way would Gotrek know what Settra the Imperishable pacifically would look like ?
>>
>>94389624
You do realize that AoS has massively surpassed WHFB in terms of popularity, right? This board is hardly representative of anything besides retardation. I doubt most AoS kiddies even know what Warhammer Fantasy even is.
>>
>>94390213
How well did that aos game do again?
>>
>>94387944
>Manly men in tights with mustaches holding the line
>Black women in loose clothings with mustaches staying behind their walls.
>>
>>94390213
lol
>>
>>94390213
No it hasnt lmao. Age of Sigmar has ZERO cultural relevance, it exists within the tabletop wargaming niche and nowhere else. Go check the player for TWW and then do the same for Realms of Ruin, that will give you an idea of the appeal of both outside of /tg/. Be warned the findings might hurt.

Love me some fresh Sigsister cope in the morning
>>
>>94391837
Because TWW is good and RoR is shit.
AoS outsells Fantasy by magnitudes.
If a TWW:AoS came out it would sell even more than the Fantasy ones
>>
>>94392119
>he thinks more people are interested in playing with Stormsharts and Orruks © than Empire and Orcs
>he thinks GW making AoS as dumb, simplified and accessible as possible so that kids will play it means it has more cultural appeal than Fantasy
>he thinks literally anyone cares or knows what Age of Sigmar is outside of the tabletop gaming community
KEK
>>
>>94392151
Bro. People outside of tabletop gaming know 40k, Fantasy, AoS as "Warhammer"
There's no real knowledge of the different settings unless you're into the tabletop game.
>>
>>94392167
Thats an outright lie. I have a handful of friends who are big into Warhammer and do not play tabletop. They read BL slop and play TWW, DoW, etc. They adore 40k and Fantasy yet Ive never heard them once lament how there are no good AoS books or games etc.

40k and Fantasy have appeal outside of the tabletop, AoS does not. Because the setting is goofy dogshit. Maybe AoS is a great game mechanically but lore/setting wise it has always and forever will be the retarded ugly sibling of the Warhammer triplets.
>>
>>94392378
Then why does it well better than Fantasy?
>>
>>94392420
Its not rocket science anon. Fantasy was/is a game with lots of rules and nuance that takes time to learn. It is also a game with a high model count, even a small 1k force can easily be 60+ models, all of which have to be individually assembled and painted. Nevermind bigger games, which are standard. It is not a game for kids, its a game for adults who have the patience, time and money. It also existed in a time when GW had shit marketing skills and no social media presence, and whatever marketing they were capable of was almost always directed towards promoting 40k.

Compare that to AoS and 40k, games which GW themselves have said are designed to be introductory games. In AoS you can rock up with 2 dragons and 1 named character and youre good to play. Any 12 year old can watch a 20 minute Youtube video and learn the rules. The investment required, or "barrier of entry", is far lower. It is fundamentally designed to be mass consoomed, and unlike Fantasy, exists in a time of omnipresent social media and a GW that actually knows how to market shit. Fantasy, being a rank and flank game (nominally at least) never tried to be anything other than a niche, until GW tried to force it to be something its not with 8th edition.

They were designed for different purposes and different audiences in mind. Also if GW of the early-mod 00s gave even a modicum of the love to Fantasy that they did to 40k and now AoS, we easily couldve had a different timeline.
>>
>>94392517
Man, that's a lot of excuses for why WHFB died and TOW can't catch up to AoS despite having probably the best launch for an IP in GW history. For the record, TOW completely BTFO'd another game system in Horus Heresy, which is also an "introductory" game. And both AoS and 40k were just as complicated than WHFB just a few years ago in prior editions.

Again; they both BTFO'd Warhammer Fantasy at its height. Copium aside, Warhammer Fantays has zero relevance outside of video games. And that's more because the games were fun, not because the IP was interesting.
>>
>>94393888
What is TOW?
>>
>>94393949
An American anti-tank missile.
>>
>>94393949
Botched attempt to re-launch fantasy.
Ment as a tie-in with TWW3, but got delayed like 3 years and lost all the actually new stuff it had promised
>>
>>94394105
You mean Total War the old world. Where the neutral playable factions to Kings and what else went to Good Wood elves and evil tomb Kings now? Also Olga's kingdoms playable in the old world yet?
>>
>>94387944
If compare of being man empire of nam, contracts it with as to City of Sigma it constraint Sigma in empire of man, being of similar in Age of Sigma empire of Sigma
>>
>>94389624
>Age of Sigmar needs to take what they did with cities of sigmar in 3rd edition and do it to every other faction in the game
They are amongst the last ones to get re-made completely for aos tho? Theres only Ogres left
>>
>>94394210

The Beastclaw Raiders had a very unique culture and man to make themselves different enough compared to the origins and fantasy and pretty organized for Fantasy Ogre or Members of the Grand Alliance of Destruction.

What did the autotranslate mean by that?

I personally actually like the Cities of Sigmar range. I like the more medieval look and the overt Bosch, Dürer and Brugel aesthetic (which is prevalent in the addition of the gargoylians)
Iv bought a set of Heironomous Bosch minis to go into my CoS army to add a bit of flavour to it.
Also headswap that pontifex kit, I don't want Whoopie fucking Goldberg as a special character in my army, fuck that shit.
On the whole I like them. The cannon, wildercorps and command group are all lovely models and the freeguild marshall on horseback is of the nicest cavalry sculpts iv seen in a while.
>>
>>94395265
I got to ask where are the screenshots from that image you uploaded for? I saw them done by the people who used to do if the emperor of mankind had a speech to text device at least the one with the giant horn as a joke battle with a joke story ( going to place the YouTube episode) and I kind of wonder where exactly it's from.

>>94392517
Fantasy's rules aren't that much simpler. I've played both. The thing which makes Fantasy worse is the movement. It's just awful and makes for an on rails experience.
Also army comp is not that different, the current TOW meta is 2 dragons and a sorceror

Both
>The base citizens of the setting oppose to other faction where there a level of magic or divinity that give them the edge
>Both have a racism/discrimination plot (Ulric vs Sigmarites and the Reclaim vs Azyrite)

Empire of man
>Has a single strong historical aesthetic to them that being the Holy Roman empire Landsknecht
>Lots of over the top German names
>A stagnation of borders despite rising technology (that just the case for all WHF faction really) so majority of the time they're being invaded and the narrative revolve around being defensive
>mono-human but still has various different species living in said nation but is consider uncommon
>Most "grounded" of all the factions in both WHF and AOS as the most fantastical part of it is the tanks, artillery and war machines

Cities of Sigmar
>Various different aesthetics from even the new one are based on the various nations around/Near the Holy Roman Empire; the Hussites, the Burgundians, the Scandinavians, the Ottomans ect ect while have stuff like the dieselpunk industrialist, the pirate elves, 17th century witch hunters, dwarfs and wizards
>Very DND names
>Multi-species faction even if the dwarfs and elves stuff are phase out (but is likely to return) the Ogre Warhulk show that GW want to make into more "fantasy guard" so they'll defiantly be their own abhuman equivalents coming. Various different races in lore co-exist in the free cities
>Narratively they're constantly expanding and colonizing allowing for more proactive narratives
>Post-apocalypse civilization allow a wide range of technology utilization from the 15th century horseback knight to walking tank fortresses
>>
>>94392119
>AoS outsells Fantasy by magnitudes.
False in many ways.
Remember, that Fantasy has sold more, for longer, and plenty of people still have all those miniatures.
Your Age of Shit game has only sold to a few people. in comparison.
>>
>>94391837
So, by your metric, the actual wargame itself could be a dumpster fire that no one plays, but as long as secondaries make lore videos about it, it's more successful?
>>
>>94393888
>Warhammer Fantays has zero relevance outside of video games.
Nah, it's just back to what it always should have been, an excellent rpg setting.
>>
>>94394114
>Also Olga's kingdoms playable in the old world yet?
They've been fully playable since day 1, same as any army that was in Fantasy
>>
>>94397525
Most "grounded" of all the factions in both WHF and AOS as the most fantastical part of it is the tanks, artillery and war machines
And you know, the battle mages, monstrous flying mounts, glowing warrior priests and wizard college. And the magical lasers. And the hordes of naked, raving fanatics deployed as frontline troops.
>>
>>94397833
You explicitly said popularity and you are wrong. Only GW has sales and gameplay metrics.

Noooooo there are way better settings than that. Especially for fantasy.

Look up real life fractions quotes they were real medieval thing they hit themselves during times of great diseases and they were not helping this fight them trying to have God make things better by whipping themselves they spread very deadly diseases.
>>
>>94399195
Maybe, but the ttrpg is still solid enough game to be considered playing (not to mention having a good, active community.) Take it from me as someone who hates the wargame for fantasy, but enjoyed AoS.
>>
>>94399340
You can't reason with the fake grogs anon. They are all clinically retarded. 99% have never even played fantasy. 99% don't own models.
>>
>>94399195
I didn't say "the absolute best rpg setting." I said "an excellent rpg setting." And it is, all of the cool stuff from Warhammer Fantasy is from the rpgs.
>>
>>94399016
I never said anything about popularity. You made the claim that "cultural relevance" is more important than people actually playing the game.
>>
>>94390213
>You do realize that AoS has massively surpassed WHFB in terms of popularity, right?
as an IP? hell no
https://steamdb.info/app/1844380/
>22 players
Comparing the war games is hard, if AoS was treated the same way WHFB was where you'd go entire editions without armies getting releases or even a new codex/tome we'd live in a very different world; likewise WHFB was never able to benefit from GW's current practice of "Every single faction gets a codex and at least one token character model, every single edition, no matter what".

Primaris Space Marines and Contrast Paints are what saved the company from bankruptcy, not anything to do with AoS, and in terms of IP it's not even close
>>
>>94401326
That game was rubbish, not exactly a great comparison.
It would be fair when TW:WH4 comes out and it's AoS.
>>
>>94401326
Wfb was getting more releases than AoS, they were just very unevenly distributed.
AoS simply bothers to releas rules updates to armies that have gotten fuckall in 10 years.
>>
>>94390213
This has nothing to do with Age of Sigmar’s setting and everything to do with WFB being a clunky mess.
If they just used the old world setting with the Age of Sigmar rules sales would likely stay the same or increase.
>>
>>94401326
>b-but look at this slop game
Ok, retard. Keep grasping at straws and peddling absolute lies because you never experienced time the game during 7th and 8th edition, nor played AoS either. What you just said is objectively false about release window.
>>
>>94393949
A very strange choice of starting army, that's what that is. Was it no DElves?

>Most "grounded" of all the factions in both WHF and AOS as the most fantastical part of it is the tanks, artillery and war machines
WHFB had enough grimderp once you get past the surface. We've had entire past threads discussing how infeasible much of the human kingdoms are, even with magic. Take Bretonnia where they added all sorts of stupid grimderp where the nobles, in a society where land ownership is family inherited, are inexplicably 0 inbred while peasants are practically another species. Where noblemen kids have to prove themselves in battle and many die. That is hardly scratching the surface of nonsense grimderp. What's worse is Bretonnia wasn't always like this. Even the Empire and being mostly forests where Beastmen rape you to death has plenty of logistical problems considering how they sustain their populations and numbers.

Too much of the Empire is forest. The vast majority of their lands are infested with beastmen and green skins. The empire is really just a bunch of city states surrounded by forests, with only the southern provinces resembling anything worth living in. Bretonnia is geographically smaller but most of that land is verdant fields, great for farming, horses and livestock. Far more of its land is habitable and productive and covered in villages, I wouldn’t be surprised if Bretonnia actually has the larger population. Just look at them on the map - the Empire is almost completely covered in forest, while Bretonnia has three major forests, but a lot more open plains.
>>
>>94397525
>tanks, artillery and war machines
What about wizards? Including common enough wizards to have Hedge Wizards and a college of magic?
>>
>>94401993
Not realy. For years AoS 's business model was centred around new small armies, something that doesn't function in wfb, because you don't have enough asses to pull stuff from.
>>
>>94387944
Pathetic that they had to go crawling back to their roots after they finally realized how fucking lame fantasy space marines are.
>>
>>94402688
A weird claim when AoS completely eclipses TOW sales, but okay.
>>
>>94403066
NTA, but Stormcast are by far the worst thing about AoS. If it wasn't for them, Fantasy would be utterly dead and buried.
>>
>>94402583
>business model was centred around new small armies, something that doesn't function in wfb
why not?
shit like Mordheim was small scale. dont see why you need to focus on the big battles of the old world instead of the numerous skirmishes that happen all over the setting and in the books. Gotrek and Felix fighting alongside like 5, 10, or 20 other dwarves/ men for example was pretty common.
>>
>>94403865
I'm talking about unit counts in the roster, not on the table. GW had a thing where they'd make dozen kits, and fomo them as a new shiny thing.
It clearly worked well cause they started adapting this into 40k
>>
>>94402688
>Pathetic that they had to go crawling back to their roots after they finally realized how fucking lame fantasy space marines are
Don't be fooled by the cover, anon, Cities of Sigmar look nothing like the Empire after the big refresh
>>
>>94394210
I would argue that despite being a technically new faction, Fyreslayers need a similar remake, there is only so much you can do with Slayers
>>
>>94403271
That doesn't really make any sense. One of the prime reason GW even made AoS was because Fantasy didn't have a easily recognizable mascot like 40k. Stormcast was and is critical for brand recognition. It seems like Stormcast are the recipe for success, to an extent.
Also, as an aside, Stormcast are also bought a lot outside of AoS for Space Marine bits too. So altogether they probably make a lot by themselves.
>>
>>94405189
Fyreslayers will get a refresh like how the Flesh Eater Courts did; you can take a concept and run with it with some creativity.
>>
>>94405189
Fyreslayers have fuckall to do with Slayers lorewise, only 1 unit is even related in intent.
You don't have to remake them conceptually to add more stuff, you just have to ad more stuff like the wingless dragon, fire elemental or all the priests

Fluff says that after the Waagh of 1707IC, Solland was in ruin and was eventually absorbed by Wissenland. Yet by the time of TOW, Solland became independent again but using the name Sudenland now.
Has it been explained why this happened?
>>
>>94405189
Open their tome, there's so much you can do with their holds that isn't just revamped slayers that's already mentioned in their books. They even shown they could with their new renown unit and that was just a more armored infantry squad.
