Let's have a /traditional games/ elf thread!
Rules:
Only traditional games related elves allowed. No unspecified general discussion and no image dumping. All posting has to be related to one or more traditional games (see /tg/ rules for definition).

Pic related is part of my future wood elf army I started printing yesterday. Immediate use will be MESBG Mirkwood, but they should be useful in other games as well.

Really hoping we get the heavy Elven infantry models for Oathmark early next year. Was really hoping we'd see them this year. Once they come out I may start a High Elf army for Age of Fantasy.

Reminder. Elfs and dorfs are friends. Only cringe reddit faggots cling to the meme.

What are good plastic elfs? I wanted to like the Oathmark ones but they aren't efly enough, and the GW ones aren't my cup of tea (tough the LoTR ones are exellent).

Does anyone besides GW (warhammer and MESBG, I agree that the LOTR minis look better), north star (oathmark) and raging heroes even offer plastic elves? Or at least box kits and not the odd one-off here and there?

I do too since I never trust render only previews, especially ones with rendered materials. Like this is the only example of a model I've seen painted and its a small af image. You'd think hiring a pro to painter your product would make sense for them.

Mantic, although they could do with an upgrade. Love the core style they have going on, but the models are showing their age.

I want my elves in my setting to be immortal but then I'd need an explanation for how they haven't overrun the entire world. Any ideas?
>>
>>94425039
They want to be left alone.
>>
>>94425039
They're eimmortal, except to drowning. They live on an island by themselves, and are too terrified to build ships for fear they may sink.

Or if you want something less dumb, they simply see no purpose or value gained ruling over lesser beings. They'd rather do their own thing with their own people knowing they won't have to dumb it down for other races.
>>
>>94421220
Those guys are mostly right, bolt action soviet bodies with oathmark bits and a variety of heads. I used them as magehunters in WMH and for homebrew stuff

Neat, I kitbashed together some elves with guns digitally a while back and printed them, but I haven't painted them yet.
It's a bit of a shame that they have a bit casual poses so it doesn't really look like most of them are in combat, but considering the availability of vaguely cold war female soldiers stl files I had to take what I could get

Limited number of souls/females only being able to produce a small number, putting a hardcap on elven numbers. The Tolkien way.
Alternatively: elves are constantly leaving/going back and forth to other worlds all the time.
>>
>>94432408
Nice, I think I saw those in awg. What are you using them for?
>>
Full sillymode pre-errata elvish spell lore was fun. Scribes in 5e can more or less do the same thing notwithstanding that they don't have special damagetypes, right? Negative energy doesn't definitionally heal the undead either, right?

archeage players gtfo, you don't belong on /tg/

>>94433001
Nothing yet, I don't have much 28mm cold war/modern/sci-fi stuff, but I think 5 parasecs could be a very good fit for them

They kinda remind me of the wga eisenkern, you could do some head swaps on those for different poses

>>94425039
as in ruling over other races or outbreeding others?
either way, making them immortals risks making them too "overpowered", unless you make them very alien, which can help against both outbreeding and ambition issues.
Maybe it'd be more useful if you first decide how did those elves came to be, were they created by some god or what?
>>
>>94394929
Just another thing they stole from 4chan
>>
>>94425039
My solution? Similar to Celtic myth and Tolkien - they got bored of ruling over lands which would later be ruled by men and fucked off to their own island/underground unreachable by mortals, occasionally journeying in other lands.

>>
>>94456967
It wasn't DOA, it was actually fantastic on arrival but it suffers from the same player retention issues a game like EVE online does. New players aren't encouraged to stay because they can't compete with the people who've been playing a long time and the people who've been playing a long time gradually quit either out of boredom or rage due to losing bigly against other oldfags they've been competing with. But that first year or so was probably the most exciting and dynamic MMO I've ever played

TES actually had an interesting answer to this question: most Elves live on an island in a magical anarcho-feudalist society of cooperation, oaths, pledges of loyalty, etc. More or less all of their material needs are taken care of by magic and slavery of lesser (as in "barely sentient") races and magical automata. Elves occasionally leave to provide their knowledge, longevity, and outsider perspectives to other parts of the world, but they rarely "get involved" as they're operating on timescales in the centuries and eventually (in centuries) plan on going home anyways.

Thus, the only elves that go around getting into trouble are the ones that got kicked out for crimes or causing problems, and really there aren't that many of those. When they move as a group, however (ala the Dunmer, who are a society of exiles) then they do actually takeover territory pretty easily. However, cultural mores, purity taboos, and their superior magic means that they usually prefer to inhabit areas that lesser races find uninhabitable anyways. For all of their grandeur, elves are very "nesty", and are agitated by spending too long in an area not to their liking. It's much easier to just make a shithole into their nest than it is to find the ideal place for one. This is why there's so many "weird" varieties of elves, as they intentionally seek out strange places to live in.

I'm building an important dark elf NPC in GURPS that is supposed to help the party of non-magic users get through a large castle with monsters and evil magic.
There are a shitton of spells in the magic book though and I don't know which to pick.
Thematically I'm thinking something of a oracle or cleric with more subtle and non-combat spell focus, enpowering the rest of the party, helping them avoid traps, helping them get back on track when lost, dealing with magic obstacles and threats and so on. I included some navigation spells already, any thoughts on how I can continue?

Can't help you with GURPS specifically, but instead of handing the party some standard dark elfen waifu over to solve all their problems, you should give them various tools and resources to cleverly employ and make up for their lack of magic, or suffer the consequences of playing face-less male fighter fags.
tl;dr DMPCs to solve party-problems is not good GMing.
>>
>>94492888
it's a gate-esque scenario with new players with the premise being WW1 soldiers accidentally ending up in a evil overlords castle. They'll be heavily armed, but also completely clueless to magic and only well-equipped for combat (albeit I've created characters with different backgrounds so before the war one was a petty thief, another a well off aristocrat, farmers, combat medic, etc.) so I think it's reasonable that they get some support on the other side.
This NPC will be imprisoned in the oubliette, which is incidentally accessible from the dungeon level the characters will appear in. They'll have an opportunity to rescue her and deal with the language barrier.
You're right that she shouldn't take too much of the limelight, more like hiding well behind the party and only helping when its necessary
>>
>>94492933
Thanks for the context and I hope you don't mind the slight quip at popular /tg/ shitposts.
Yeah, in that case it makes sense that they'll rely on the locals, but I'd say my point still stands and it would be much more interesting and engaging for the players themselves if they have to learn how to deal with these problems by using the fantasy worlds own tools and resources.
