I love old plastic monopose miniatures, simple as.
have an idea that these look cool because the flat axis they have to be made on creates a strong silhouette, the empire spearmen from the 6th ed starter for instance look so much better than the plastics from the multipart kit of that era
>>94393084Monopose works best for rank and file.

>>94395669I'm too cynical, I like the vintage vibes from these but they're trying too hard, shading and highlighting were totally a thing back then. And while there were plenty of basecoat-only paint jobs, it was a noob thing, they wouldn't be that clean.Watch, this actually is an old paint job and I'm BTFO.
Monopose is love. I will never understand some people's obsession with fiddly ass models in a dozen parts each when it adds nothing of value. Maybe it's because I grew up on monopose metals, but never once did I ever think "oh no, someone else's dudes will be in the exact same pose as mine!"At least we have companies like Wargames Atlantoc and North Star who understand that if you are going to do multi-part plastic kits, they should be as few parts as possible so you can get them built and on the table as quickly as possible.
>>94393226>4e High Elf Spearman.stlSource on that stl? Seems like it comes with the shield and the archer like the old 92 sprues. The only 2 I can seem to find lead to dead links.
>>94397776Miniatures hobby is about building the minis. It is good to get as much building as possible out of the money spentMiniatures gaming is about using the miniatures. It is good to get as many miniatures as possible out of the money spent
>>94395950kinda, they are a throwback to old toy soldiers
>>94395950I've seen a fair amount of absolutely ancient minis painted in shiny enamel paints intended for model trains, I've always assumed these are intended to emulate a time when mini paints weren't widespread or easily attainable or as >>94398641 said, meant call these to mind.
>>94398145Check the 'grams
>>94403331I have no idea what that means.
>>94398247Hobby is more than just building. It also includes the painting aspect. But again, I never heard people complain abut monopose models until maybe the early 2000's. And then a bunch of people raised on multi-part plastics from GW got to thr internet and made it seem like being able to have thir guys arm raised two degrees more than mine was this huge fucking deal. But I'll admit, I'm much more here for the games.
I don't want to dump my "cool old minis" folder every time this thread appears - sooner or later I'll merge together all my pictures in a single mega-image that I can just post once and fill the thread with cool old minis
>>94400276Odds are it's mostly just intentionally "ironicly" bad, ie little Timmy trying to tell himself that if he painted like that on purpose it doesn't really count as abject failure. Though Timmy probably finds the callback to his grandfather's time is probably a welcome alibi in these days of ultra"conservatism" as teen rebellion.
>>94403579Nah, and that's fair. But the option existing to make your minotaurs raise a spear in greeting or... do the YMCA or something, created a new subset of the hobby. Ideally a healthy hobby should cater to both demographics with a wide range of miniatures being available. From monopose elves who t pose to assert dominance to overly intricate aliens with fully articulated and reposable cocks
>>94405248look out, /tg/'s own sigmund freud over here
>>94405248
>>94397776Depends on the game. If it's a platoon-level game, it's nice to have more variety. If it's massed rank 'n' flank stuff, a blob of uniform dudes works better
there something very charming about models that are very flat and clearly came as a single piece on the sprue
>>94405367>Ideally a healthy hobby should cater to both demographics with a wide range of miniatures being available. From monopose elves who t pose to assert dominance to overly intricate aliens with fully articulated and reposable cocksYou can just set the multi piece's pose to whatever the default is. In fact, that's the simplest way to build a model!
>>94405367And I'm not 100% against multi-part models. I just want companies to understand that, as game pieces, the quicker you can get from sprue to table the better.
>>94403579>I never heard people complain abut monopose models until maybe the early 2000'sThey didn't complain about it because there was no expectation of anything else. And the point isn't to make my models different from yours, but to make my models different from each other. Especially when it comes to skirmish games where each one develop differently, or armies like orcs or skaven where neat, uniform ranks looks out of character.
>>94398145It's still out there, just harder to find. James Wankershoop took out most of the scans on Cults recently. Thingi has some decent alternatives. Ask around, people still have 'em.
>>94398145Oldhammer grog thread got a few stl archives, ask about, someone might have it
