It's a shame how little the poetic beauty of the warp is evident. Chaos characters should be poets, because the warp is a mess of poetry. If I ever collect CSM they'll be word bearers of some sort, with a mystical religious attachment to the warp. Less like monstrous horror freaks, more like demon-worshipping bhuddists.

I'm having so much trouble painting the blades on this guy, this will be my second time repainting the base coat and trying again, but because I put so much paint on it the details are starting to get smoothed out. This last one is going to have to be done right, or I'm going to strip the whole miniature and start over again. Do you guys have a go-to method for painting Necron blades that have turned out well for you?

Unironically, I've found that slapchop works well for glowy bits, especially if you highlight/drybrush them afterwards.
Start black, do a lot of dry brushing into a light grey/white, and then use a wash color of your choice over it. Highlight/drybrush over that, and you're golden. Did that on my Shokk attack gun here.
My necronbro just glazes dark green to light green over every panel like a madman, though, and that works well. Time consuming, but great results.

Man i gotta say out of anything I've painted so far in warhammer the skin for these guys was simultaneously the most annoying and frustrating and yet at the same time the most safisying once they're finished. If you’re within 12 inches when you’re eligible to charge, you roll 2d6, if the result gets you within 1 inch of an opponent model in the target unit the charge is successful. You then move everybody that distance. When you activate to fight you can move an additional 3 inches. All models in base to base contact with an enemy model in two ranks can fight. You also gain the fights first ability on a successful charge. If you want to charge multiple units you have to declare them both and make it within 1 inch of a model from both units with at least one model of your unit without breaking coherency.

How exactly is that supposed to work? For a monopose kit you just design a single sculpt and you're done. For a kit with multiple options you need to not only design more bits, you have to make sure they actually fit together properly. It's more design time, more QA time, more iterations, more material used in the final sprue.

I'm thinking it in the sense that (were you to be an intelligent person designing it) you can make a few more neutral poses that don't need special attention to check for weirdness in the design and make them easily compatible with the bits you are designing.
An example of that is the plastic marine infantry in HH, it all seems to run on a standard of compatibility for arms and hands, so my assumption is that it must have been a cheaper design decision, even if they have to spend a bit more on plastic for the options (that's the least expensive part)

Debatible...
1. Honor company has same colors as 2nd company.
2. Why would 2nd company be at the other side of the galaxy? honor company is closer to that side and since they had low numbers in the game it would explain the fact that they lost the eye of terror campaign. So they have to be extra effective like the emperor children where back in the day.

Slaanesh pic related style (don't know how you're suppose to do the hose to the chest, though). Tzeentch more of a bird beak. Nurgle a plague doctor mask with goggles and gas mask filgers on the sides of the beak. Khorne maybe more of a skull face with jagged trim and spikes. If options are possible, make those Khorne and Tzeentch bunny ears/crests for their helmets, top knot for Slaanesh and maybe a single horn for the Nurgle.

>>94410409
The dread is supposed to be a walking coffin, a showcase of inhumanity, an Astartes in a cold, twisted war machine with little to no semblance of the man that was once there, save a small slit to see the broken remains.
A head makes it instead look like a giant marine in super big armour. It looks ridiculous, and it's why I respect the Redemptor chassis over the Contemptor.

Redemptors understand that the inhumanity is the point, but stupid headnaughts fail to grasp this. It's why the Primaris ones are the true successors to the Boxnaught design

>It's been said that the 501st got the best of the war. We also got the worst. On Felucia, the Seps dug their metal heels into the muck of that alien hellhole and dared the Republic to come in after them. So we did, only to be met with the month after month of flesh-eating diseases, shrieking nocturnal predators, and other sights that haunt me to this day. Cut off and for all we knew abandoned by our superiors, our only hope was Aayla Secura, our Jedi commander. Without her iron will, none of us would have come out of that mess with our sanity, or our lives. When her death came, I hope it was quick. She earned that much. When the 501st was finally rotated out of Felucia, Aayla Secura made a point of seeing us off personally, calling us the bravest soldiers she had ever seen. It's a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could bear to look her in the eye

When did these dudes from the heresy became the norm with CSM? I remember some time ago most characters were stated or implied to be very young for marine standards, these old dudes were a rarity and being old was a defining trait of their character.
>>
>>94410893
Marines have HUDs in their helmets that give them information of the battlefield in real time and highlights hazards for them as well.
The marine wouldn't step on a meltamine because he can see it and would just step around it to not blow up.

They do, they can see the disturbed earth over the mine which just signals to the marine with decades if not centuries of experience that something is buried there.
And based that it is a battlefied there is usually only 1 thing to be buried deliberately in the earth, a mine.
So he again will just step away from it.

Only for him to realize all the chaoslords who answered his call were basically CSM equivelant zoomers who had either been chapters just recently corrupted, or otherwise only couple of decades old CSM. And obviously none of the chaoslords gave a shit and called him a faggot for obsessing over the Imperium for 10 000 years.

The custodian would win because his speed, reflexes and aim is superior compared to the armiger.
The custodian could easily blind the armiger by shooting out its cameras and sensors before the armiger manages to react due to the custodian's speed and reflexes.
And once it is blind and stumbling around the custodian can move in for the kill by knocking the armiger over with his strength, they are superhuman after all and custodes have strength on par with ogryns who can easily drag around Imperial Guard chimeras which weigh like 38 tonnes (38 000 kgs).
Meaning he can easily knock it over and once the armiger is blind and haplessly stumbling on the ground the custodian can rip open the cockpit hatch with his strength and then kill the pilot easily.
It's not a close match at all realistically.

The only reason why the custodes dies in that book is only because the writer wants him to die, that is it.

I find the tabletop much more consistent than the alternative. What changes the most is points costs and special rules which indicate what has the best synergies and is worth taking, but the hard and fast stats that show the individual prowess of the models that make up a unit don't change all that much, save for wholesale revisions to the game system like we had in 8th.

Neither take precedence over the other.
Trying to use tabletop stats and rules to argue lore shit is gay and retarded,
And trying to use lore to justify rules and gameplay shit is also gay and retarded.
For the very simple reason that GW has never attempted to make the game and lore 100% accurate to one another.
It can't be done for the sheer fact that the fluff has shit in it that is absolutely game breaking.
Like if you really want to go with making 40k tabletop exactly 100% accurate to the lore, then anyone who brings shit like the Warlord titan would instantly win the match. Why? Because the sunfury plasma cannon according to the fluff is so powerful that the shots create craters of slag that are mile wide and it can quite literally melt anything.
And if you wanted to play like 2000 point games, shit like guard would unironically be made of 2000 individual guardsmen models while you have like 30 leman russes.
And despite all of that, they'd still get tabled on turn 1 because Guard is a joke and basically everything shits on it in the fluff.

My gripe with lorefagging isn't even that some people primarily enjoy the fluff of 40K, that's fine with me. My issue is that they take a few of the possible factions and take it like it stands in an unreachable pedestal nothing can ever touch, and always by simply ignoring all evidence to the contrary. And it's not even because they opperate on rule of cool, it's just blatant favoritism from the supposed loremasters.

Calgar defeating the Avatar of Khaine in a fistfight or ripping a Necron Pylon to baseball bat a Tesseract Vault and a C'tan? A-OK. Some Grey Knights casually assaulting the domains of the Chaos Gods or destroying a huge Titan? Simply beautiful.

A raiding party made up of dozens of some of the top Harlequins being able to kill Custodes? Unimaginable, the author MUST have made a msitake. Genesteelers ripping Terminators open with their claws? Uuggghh SO UNREALISTIC. A fucking Phoenix Lord blending a bunch of marines? AAAIIIEEEEEEE SAVE ME ADB.

Both are fine options, too though I wish you could run more than 3 deff dreads in a dread mob army. It just feels like a kan mob at the moment
Really the only side of the army I can't really get behind is da big hunt. I don't hate snagga stuff but I feel they work better as secondary models in an army.

Void Stalker, a Night Lords novel. Ulthwe decides a captain needs to die and sicks Jain Zar on him and his Terminator honor guard.

Doesn't that end with her getting stomped to death by a Dreadnought after killing the wrong guy?

Pulling an except from the book

>She came from the darkness, just as her sisters had done. Varthon was the first to see her, and shouted a warning to the others. The cry died in his throat as soon as it started, ended by the spear blade punched through his breastplate, bursting both of his hearts in a single blow. A full metre of the black spear thrust out from his spine for a single moment, until the weapon slid back from his flesh with vicious patience.

>She watched each of them as she let the body fall, while a flatline tune played out in every Night Lord’s helm.

>Every figure moved at once. The legionaries lifted their bolters and opened fire, each of them unleashing a torrent of explosive shells and none of them coming close to striking her.

>Flatline wails rang in Talos’s ears as he fired at the dancing, flickering figure. Centuries of training and battle aligned with the targeting processors in his Terminator plate and retinal display, guiding his aim as much as instinct. The storm bolter bucked and banged in his grip, spitting shells in a tide that only relented when he had to reload.

>He backed away, crunching another magazine home. All of them were reloading out of sync, all sense of unity and covering fire gone in a moment. Talos saw, in one blurry scan of the chamber, how their bolter fire had savaged every single wall without once hitting their prey.

>Jekrish White-Eyes died next, his head cleaved clean from his shoulders. As the body started to topple, Talos lifted his fist to block his brother’s spinning helm from hitting him. It clanged aside, dropping to the floor. He was already firing at the black blur, aiming in the places instinct and his targeting reticule said she’d be. More stonework died in detonation craters and splintering chips.

I do think it is funny that both marine and Eldar fans complain about this book because both sides get wasted.

>arguing about who's viewpoint of lore is gooder
Is this what midwits do to occupy their time? If I don't like a piece of lore I read, I delete it from my headcannon, and my particular viewpoint of the lore is the only one that actually matters to me.

>She didn’t even slow down to kill. The spear reaped right through Gol Tatha’s waist, severing him from his legs. In the same second, Faroven died halfway across the chamber, a three-bladed throwing star forged of alien iron and black fire cracking his head down the middle. Both bodies fell, twinning their thuds as they struck stone.

>Mercutian cried out, his bulky suit of armour arching its back as he cursed. Talos caught a flicker of movement in his visor display as the spear lanced back out from his brother’s back. Mercutian staggered forward, only prevented from falling by the artificial ironclad muscles in his armour’s joints. His storm bolter boomed once more, before spilling from his grip.

>When the throwing blade hit Uzas, it crashed against his horned helm, sending ceramite chunks clattering off the walls. He didn’t stagger as Mercutian had; he tumbled one step and dropped to his hands and knees, heavy enough to send tremors through the floor. Talos saw blood drip to the dark stone ground, pooling between Uzas’s shaking hands.

[SOME UNIMPORTANT DIALOGUE]

>He followed the blur with his storm bolter, just as it danced behind Korosa, the last soul standing in Third Claw. Korosa turned, as fast as a genhanced human body was capable of moving, lashing out with his howling chainsword. In the single second it took Talos to draw aim, Korosa was lurching backwards, blood gouting from his severed arm. He made it two steps before the spear’s backswing disembowelled him, spilling a wet slop of innards down the front of his war plate.

Dunno, I don't discuss HH books with anyone, and I barely read any. I didn't find it particularly offensive as someone that like both the Eldar and the Edge Lords. There's the usual ADB hackery, but nothing you wouldn't find in prettt much any other HH novel. And for Elfar standards their treatment was downright respectful. Imagine if it was Gav writing it, Jain would've wiffed her first attack and the rest of the book would have been the marines bullying, torturing and raping her before explodinginto Chaos Spawn becauselol random.

TQ: Probably really just an All-stars game that's a cross between Darktide and Space Hulk Deathwing where you can throw a bunch of faction's cool dude together into a coop game. Terminators, Stealth Battlesuits, Warp Spiders, whatever the fuck you can throw into a corridor all running the same way content to not shoot at each other at the given moment.

>Uses multiple Alpha level psykers as batteries.
>No training to minimize the pain of the draining (and thus chance to cause a mini EoT in the middle of a battlefield) and make more useful, just caged in crystal cages.
>Requires 3 blanks (extremely rare psykers) as pilots (smaller rate of success than becoming a SM).
>Lobotomized into what is essentially semi-sentient servitors to act as 1 (instead of, again, training them).
>Pretty much a hindrance for any army that is not solely made out of bananas and Omega(-Minus) psykers.
>Can be brought down by a single daemon (in-lore, at least).
