How is power creep still a thing in card games with set rotation?
>>94423895Because without it, some players get too comfortable settling for eternal formats which allows them to play the game forever and no longer buy more cards. This is bad in the soulless suit's head because everyone in your audience should be continually be playing you money for your continual service of printing worthless physical cardboard, and (recently) because the best way to finance a PR campaign is to get the target audience to pay for being politically agitated. Ideally you would become both the consumer and the product while also being the sponsor and simultaneously having no input into what is actually happening with the brand.
>>94423895Stockholders, investors and profit margins.
>>94423895What do you mean power creep, this is hard countered by a turn 1 Alabaster Leech.Power level only going down
>>94423895power creep is a game design tool, it happens in every game that gets expansionsit really is as simple as:>we want to sell new product to competitive players, therefore it has to be better than older product
>>94423895Because the only rotating format has been dead since covid. The majority of cards printed for the last several years are intended for eternal formats.
>ragavan was actually rotated by bowmastersPretty wild when you think about it.
>>94423895Non-rotating formats also exist (and in MtG are currently more popular than Standard), plus new cards that are stronger than before get people excited.Though I suspect a lot of powercreep in MtG is just the result of bad design. The stated goal of the FIRE design style that lead to a ton of overpowered cards was to make games more fun, exciting and interactive, so they made a ton of cards with big flashy effects that reward you immediately for playing them, since that's more fun an exciting than a vanilla 3/3 creature or a creature that might maybe do something next turn if it doesn't get removed. The side effect is that those flashy game-swinging effects also tend to break the existing balance. Plus there's the cards that are broken because of lack of playtesting. Like how Nadu's ability got changed very late on development without time to playtest it and turned out to be so OP and annoying it got banned from most formats almost immediately, or how apparently nobody thought about using Oko's +1 to remove enemy creatures (the design idea was to use it on your own creatures, but since it doesn't specify it only works on your own creatures you can use him to remove opposing creatures).
>>94424752>Non-rotating formats existNot anymore with modern horizons
>>94424752That's an obvious lie. Nobody would want to turn their own creatures into vanillas in the current environment
>>94423895As what >>94423936 >>94424752 says but also because retarded ape things work at WotC and don't know how to balance worth shit.
>>94423895Anon don't you know? They got rid of normal set rotation. Now people have to fuck around with 20 sets at a time all the time, and soon you can't even be allowed to avoid the really, really stupid shit staying in Standard like unironic SpongeBob mtg.
>>94423895Whenever Wizards tried to hold the line or weaken standard fans complained. So really they're to blame
>>94430762>unironic SpongeBob mtgI literally cannot believe this. I made this shitpost 2 years ago in reaction to lotr. What's really absurd is that I was only talking about commander. This shit is going to STANDARD.https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/86296517/#86300016
>>94430776Yeah man, everyone made that joke back then. They explicitly promised it would never get this bad, but they're doing it anyways. Fuck Wizards, I am never buying from anyone but proxyfags ever again.
>>94430838Proxy PreDH and Proxy PreModern are the ways to go.
>>94423895Hasbro executives literally told WotC to do whatever it takes to double their revenue every year. Only way to do that even in theory is print must-buy broken shit at extremely high rarieties.
>>94434675>double their revenue>every yearNot even the most soulless suit would view that as viable or possible.
