Honest question; who else here ignores the rule that the zombies from Dead Reign are immune to laser, ion, plasma and basically all forms of energy weapons?

Basically, Kevin's notes on crossing over zombies into other settings notes than in M.D.C. settings, they become M.D.C. creatures and they're also impervious to all energy-based M.D.C. weaponry on top of that. Why? Fucked if I know why.

One thing I like about ai art in regards to rifts and the campaign is being able to make a character that looks very similar to how I visualize them in my head. This is a heroine in the campaign that the team is working with and I finally got around to making her first draft of her ai art.

Forgive me, for I have sinned.
I caved and did the MDC = SDC x10 house rule.
After 15 years, I finally caved to doing the rule.
And it makes things so much more convenient.
Suddenly minor MDC beings and Supernatural Strength can exist in SDC areas, they're still tough/deadly but they're no longer walking, talking nukes.
Laser pistols missing their target no longer obliterate everything in their path.
And high end machine guns have a reason to exist.
I have fallen into the pit and tasted the water, and the water tastes like honey.

Does anyone have any of the art of the Nightbane from, well, the titular Nightbane RPG?
>>

So, the Nightbane can officially practice magic by taking the Nightbane Sorcerer or Nightbane Mystic... variant R.C.C.s, I guess? Anyway, the point is, the Nightbane splatbooks introduce alternative spellcasting O.C.C.s, and I'm wondering how you anons would handle letting Nightbane cross-train as these different kind of mages?

Looking at the Nightbane Sorcerer and the Nightbane Mystic, we see two different methods of handling things. The Nightbane Sorcerer sacrifices almost the entirety of its free Nightbane talents, getting 1 automatic talent at level 1, and otherwise having to sacrifice base P.P.E. to learn new talents. In contrast, the Nightbane Mystic gets as many free Talents as a regular Nightbane, but does so at different levels, due to not getting the Mystic's normal psychic powers.

So, my kneejerk approach would be to divide the different magic-using O.C.C.s based on whether they use the Sorcerer approach or the Mystic approach, and just use the original Nightbane Sorcerer and Nightbane Mystic as my guide. Does this make sense to anyone else?

Like, the Fleshsculptor, Cybermage, and Astral Mage are all variant Nightbane Sorcerers, because these three mages all practice what is basically a variant form of sorcery.

The Mirrormage is a variant Nightbane Mystic; the Mirrormage's powers revolve around interacting with the Mirrorwall, which is an inherent ability of the Nightbane, so it makes sense it wouldn't require as much 'dedication' as pursuing sorcery would.

Nightbane cannot be Shadow Warlocks; these are basically already Nightbane Sorcerers, but coming at it from a different angle - human mages who unlock Nightbane Talents as well as spellcasting abilities.

Likewise, they can't be Channellers, because, well, Nightbane are already inherently magical.

I've no idea how a Nightbane Arcane Detective or a Nightbane Mortificant would work.

Actually, speaking of the Mortificant, did the Nightbane hardcover canonize it?

So, in the last couple of years, Palladium has been doing hardcovered "Bonus Edition" versions of their core gamebooks. And as a sneaky little incentive to make you buy a duplicate copy, these Bonus Editions contain extra content. But has anyone figured out the precise extra content in each Bonus Edition version book?

Like, I have Chaos Earth Bonus Edition, which includes the Blue Zone Demons and Army of Scorched Earth articles from the Rifter.

On the Palladium Store, After the Bomb Bonus Edition says:
>72 pages of “bonus” material includes the original After the Bomb® sourcebook and Yucatan Adventures from the old Game Shield.

Nightbane, Splicers, Ninjas & Superspies, Palladium Fantasy, Heroes Unlimited; these all have hardcover versions that apparently contain bonus material taken from the Rifter, but does anybody know what said material is? It'd be nice to know that so I can update 1d6chan.

The Palladium Forums seem to be either half-dead or completely gutted in the name of censorship, so I can't make heads nor tails of it personally.

I suppose asking at the PDF Share thread is an option, but I don't know that anons will understand instead of just pointing out the legitimate Rifts caches already present...

Also, apparently the Heroes Unlimited hardcover *isn't* a "Bonus Edition", as its writeup on the Palladium Store insists that it's no different content-wise to the softcover HU 2e corebook.

I do at least have Bonus Edition Splicers and After the bomb on the way from Ebay, being in Australia means I can't buy from Palladium's store directly, but neither of those will hit my shores until the end of January at the earliest...

Nightbane art anon, could you maybe share the art for the Guardians (solar powered greys meets angels) and the Athanatos (shape-shifting half-angels) too?

>>94672212
Wampyrs were in the corebook, yeah, and they were basically secondary vampire spawnings gone awry, so you got a weaker vampire that was free of the Intelligence's control and which could thus use its powers to fight evil.

This was before the World Book 1: Vampire Kingdoms: Revised & Updated Edition made its big Buffy-inspired "vampires are demons that stole the memories of the corpses they are inhabiting" retcons.

Yeah, in the original iteration, which was one of the first Rifts book I had, vampires were just humans corrupted by the influence of the Vampire Intelligence. They were undead, but not demonic. The Revised & Expanded version plays around with that lore, adding things like Master Vampires turning into demons and shit. I haven't sat down and read the two side by side, but maybe somebody else has and can elaborate.

Sea Titans are better men as all can see from their stats and supernatural nature. Looking at related skill selection they are able to take any skill from a category (except Medical which is limited to Paramedic and First Aid).
This can’t be due to their intelligence which is a standard human 3D6. If you look at the other OCC of the New Navy you can see they can select practically any as well. Why? Because they’re working from a Golden Age knowledge base along with educational expectations.
This means the populations of Refuge and Salvation Base are some of the most learned on Rifts Earth!
>>
>>94670111
This happened to giantitp forums too. There was a big push to fuck up all traditional forums maybe a decade or so ago. Places that used to be pretty good places to discuss things got gutted, speech got sanctioned with no clear line in the sand other than mod whims. >>

>>

I'm looking at the old Vampire Kingdoms now.
Master Vampire chooses to join a vampire intelligence and has his humanity wiped out to become an inhuman lifeform that just appears human.
Secondary Vampires say that all Rifts Undead lose their memories, but Secondary Vampires retain more than usual, hence they tend to kill their friends/loved ones because they have loose memories about these people but don't necessarily remember who they actually are. Only the truly heroic (PC) vampires maintain enough memories to not go full evil.
Wild Vampires it says are "mentally retarded" vampires, either created due to something going wrong during the transformation process or driven that way from going so long without feeding.

As opposed to the Doc Reid/Revised version saying the human dies the moment he's changed, and the shard of the vampire intelligence puppeting their body has some memories.

I was just reading Palladium 1e, and I want to ask something about the rules. On Armour Rating, it says that the attacker must roll higher than the defender's armour rating to penetrate the armour and inflict physical damage to the defender.
Does that mean if you go past the AR, you deal full damage, or does the armor still block damage and have a little bit of damage to the HP?
For example, the AR is 6 and I dealt 8 damage. Do you deal the full 8 damage or do you still have to reduce the damage by 6?
>>
File: IMG_0232.jpg (469 KB, 1920x2152)
469 KB

>>94675668
You’re conflating attack rolls and damage rolls regarding AR. If your attack roll is a success, meaning you hit what you’re attacking, you compare that number to the AR value. If it’s equal to or less then you hit the armor. If it’s higher your attack bypasses armor. Roll damage. Apply to armor or person. Armor in Palladium doesn’t reduce damage normally, but acts as sacrificial hit points. That’s why shields and armor have a SDC amount. Natural AR and vehicle AR is different. With does if you fail to get past the AR it negates damage entirely.
I want to say in Fantasy there is alchemical, ie very rare, armor that does have a damage reduction effect in addition to SDC and AR.
>>
>>94675668
The 6 in your example means you have to roll higher than 6 on the d20 attack roll to hit and do full damage. The 6 does NOT reduce damage by 6 points. AR is like AC in D&D. It's not used in Rifts.

I haven’t tried it myself or given it too much thought in the past about lowering the conversion between MDC and SDC, but now that you mention this I think this could work great for vehicles if you add a layer to it. Like it always bothered me that you can have a laser tank and its main weapon does like 1D6x10mdc and some dude with a pulse laser rifle does the same exact damage.
I’d use that house rule that personal scale weapons and supernatural creatures do the 10 SDC = 1 MDC, but for vehicles and large supernatural creatures (dragons, giants, alien intelligences, gods, etc) their conversion is the regular 100 SDC = 1 MDC
>>
Can any anon share the Scrap Zombie artwork from Rifts Chaos Earth: Resurrection? I'm sure it'd be useful for 1d6chan somewhere...
>>
>>94679128
I feel like I would house rule that to say that the AR is if the shooter knows it's protective and that if the shooter does not know and shoots a covered spot like the torso then it should automatically hit the armor. I think that makes things a bit fair since this is a one-hit-and-die scenario.

There are already rules if you want to shoot someone in the head though and AR 19/20 is pretty high. A regular attack getting past that is one of those “freak occurrences” that is in line with the intended intent of the armor.

>>
>>94695603
The Zombies of the Black Obelisk are divided into two categories; SDC "Chaos Zombies", which are the basic Romero-esque mindless shamblers, and MDC "Scrap Zombies", which are armored necroborgs created for a number of specialized roles in the horde, though most of them aren't THAT much smarter than the Chaos Zombies.

I think its that they get in by always being online, no real life to get in the way. So when you think of a moderator an autistic always on person who grasps the rules to a t is an easy pick.
But they us the rules to push their bs then if you boot them, their 5 online troon friends make 5 accounts each and 25 people on a 200 (active people) person board are suddenly crying fowl.

Then they bring in their own and cannibalise the whole site.

Yes it's just-just that I have had so, so many players have PP explosion when rolling their characters in my splicer game. I watch the dice. These people had little contact with eachother. I was going to the roll-what-you-get-and-don't-get-upset. 30+ for everyone one of them. Add that inbuilt bio-weapons get the PP bonus and these fucks can do brainsurgery with scalpel taped to a football from 30 yards away.

I have forgotten what it's like when players miss. I have to bend the rules just to not have it be a phenomenal slaughter. I've resorted to throwing dinosaurs and having them practice guerilla tactics just for them to survive. Pick related actually happened in my campaign.

The CS seems like one of those false hydra enemies where it's more of a neat omnious threat you discover by finding its path of victims. When you face it head on it's not going to be very tough against any PC team that isn't travelling alone. That is at least if one fo them is an MoA or as I like to call them: The chest hair classes.

Honest question, anons, would it be an overreaction to add an article on the Ee-bee Gee-bees to 1d6chan?

For context, these Chinese bootleg Ewok-looking things are actually semi-sapient, pack-hunting *spiders* that have come to semi-specialize in preying on humans and humanoids by exploiting the fact that they look and sound so cute... up until they throw you to the ground, glue you there with webbing, and start eating you alive. They even give off pheromones that make most humanoids and even animals more docile and happy in their presence.

Godlings do have slightly beefier stats, but their real strength is the versatility in power (and skill) selection. True Inca are stronger than regular Demigods as you said, but Demigods can select an OCC/RCC which can have crazy potential. Have to mention Sea Titans. They generally don't have any magic, but they have similar attributes and natural powers compared to these beings plus extra ISP if psychic. Also, Sea Titans require fewer XP compared to those guys. Oh, lastly, all the Godlings and Demigods still need to breathe and eat. Which is an exploitable weakness
>>
>>94742076
The most powerful aspect of a godling to my mind is the ability to choose TWO CASTER occs
So temporal mage and necromancer
Spacial mage and techno wizard
Or the most powerful really temporal mage and shifter

Be a combat monster and temporal warrior and mystic knight.

Sea titans sre rugged for sure but on power scale the godling is insane at even level 1
>>
>>94742220
I've got to say, I'm never really understood the difference between Temporal Mage (Wizard?) and Shifter all that well. Both wizards seem like they just specialize in traveling between dimensions. Wouldn't you expect a class called "Temporal (X)" to be good at manipulating TIME?
>>
>>94742337
A shifter is a summoner, dimensional traveler with an easy way home if shit goes bad
A temporal wizard is a master of time magic that only paradox mages and temporal wizard/warrior/raiders generally can learn
Botb cast normal magic too. Temporal magic is uber powerful for creative players. Shifters cast nearly as well as a LLW but their communication portal, enslavement, and near witch like pacts make them 3 casters in one.

Rifts england has 2 really good magics in it worth all the money even if it wasn't great art, a fun setting and like the only book with dimensional plants that are actual cool.
Herbal magic and temporal magic make the book worth it, cant recommend it enough.

Sure. The only thoughts I have to contribute to that is that animal like spirits like the tengu have different appearances based on their standing, that bakanekos are a thing, and that filth and bug like monsters are associated with the underworld while mammals are usually not.

To explain it another way from the Japanese lore point of view they would see a leprechaun as a nature spirit but fairies as demons. Leperchauns are just paranormal creatures but a fairy has bug wings and bugs are from he'll and thus a fire has limbs of a he'll creature and thus must be a sort of demon.

Another point I'm sure you know of this that the Japanese love the paranormal and urban legends. If it's weird they will make a rumor about it. I think a nightmare character could just act normal and they would make up a story about "the scratchy man made of belts who keeps asking where the nearest Arbies is in poor English"

Why does KS hate shields? It’s kind of shitty shields can only “block” ranged attacks with a penalty (bullets/energy -8; thrown objects -3). People IRL don’t need to roll to put a shield between them and bullets! In fact I don’t think you can even block melee attacks with a shield without a roll to parry. If it’s 1v1 I think using a shield to soak damage should be automatic. Fucker is swinging on me? I’m gonna put my shield between me and them. Shit, I’m getting shot at? Let me put my shield in the direction of fire. You want to be clever and shoot me where my shield doesn’t cover? Do a called shot, bitch!
>>
>>94751079
>Why does he hate shields
Because the only player in his group who liked shields was Coake's player.
Notice how early shields could block ranged attacks, and later shields some books say they can and others say they can't.
Shields don't even have a higher parry bonus than any other weapon, and cost a proficiency to use properly, so they're just bad.

At my table shields automatically absorb damage for you unless a called shot says otherwise, or if you have Shield Prof (which we boosted the parry bonus by +3) they can be used to parry attacks. Successful parry negates the shield from taking damage, but unsuccessful parry means you take damage.

We also adjusted MD/MDC numbers across the board though because otherwise the bloat is a bit much.

You are a scholar and gentleman, sir or madam. Like you look through the psi or magic and there’s a body force fold and shield powers. The body glove usually starts at like 10 mdc per level and the shield has like 60 mdc which makes it equivalent to the previous power at 6th level. A no brainer to pick then until you realize all the hurdles that shields have. I’m gonna rule it like you do. In fact since it’s a power I’d even rule you don’t take any penalties for using it without the skill. Now that I think about it what even are the penalties for no skill use of ancient weapons?
I’m glad Ultimate gave the cyber knight a power boost

>>
>>94753663
Nothing official, but the Rifter #13 has the Necro-Tech; a Techno-Wizard/Necromancer hybrid who creates magical bionics out of necromantically animated undead bodyparts.

Nightbane 3: Through the Glass Darkly also has the Cybermage, a techno-wizard analogue who creates magical items by meshing flesh with machinery, although the mechanics kind of suck.

>We also adjusted MD/MDC numbers across the board though because otherwise the bloat is a bit much

I adjust power armor down but boost the fuck out of full robots.
If a power armor suit is 1/3 the cost, or less, smaller faster ect. Why is the mdc so much lower than a big boy robot.
Super samas 490 main body vs skull smasher 990
Super sam 10ft 1 man crew.
Smasher 28ft 5 man crew.
Always boosting robots mdc otherwise especially older robots are to weak, no reason to jepordize 5 dudes vs 1 . And if a pc has a robot they are basically so glass cannon it ruins the feel of wading into combat as a behemoth

I don't use Rifts earth as written so I tend to not need to do that.
Triax/Titan tier equipment is the equivalent of artifact magic for my games to explain the ridiculous number bloat.

Anons, a quick question; the Millek's writeup in Between the Shadows says they cannot leave the Astral Plane except by using Astral Projection or Astral Transference. The problem is, these powers are written up exclusively from the perspective of being used by a human Athanatos or Guardian to travel from Earth to the Astral Plane.

My kneejerk is that Milleks using Astral Projection create ghost-like projections on Earth, and Astral Transference physically transfers them to Earth until they switch back; does that make sense to anyone else?

Also, can any anons hook me up with the art of the Millek, Tarantuloid and Necrophim from "Between the Shadows", or the Athanatos from "Shadows of Light"? Need that art for 1d6chan, and the PDFs I have are too low-grade to extract the images from...

The key to playing Palladium Rifts is to ignore half the persnickety rules that don't make any sense. You'll have way more fun that way.
>>
>>94751543
The way I do it is that shields get a massive bonus to block(parry but the item takes damage) and shields can block ranged attacks. Shields also automatically block for certain body parts but its only really important for larger shields that block the torso and head(or legs) in use

>Now that I think about it what even are the penalties for no skill use of ancient weapons?

Iirc, you get no bonuses besides what you would get as if it was normal hand to hand. I think in Heroes Unlimited it says it's the same as if you were using an improvised weapon.
>>
>>94763212
I define it as being magical or using PPE I. Some way. That pretty much excludes all psychics and aliens my thought is that aliens are normal, just from another part of space, and psychics are an advancement in humans.
>>
>>94764096
But is it defining?

>>94765872
I'm torn, I look at elves for example.
Palladium Elves, when converted to Rifts Earth, are SDC with normal strength.
Asgardian Elves, while not inherently magical, are clearly supernatural in every way as are most things in that book, but they also have Supernatural to all stats.
Star Elves, while also not inherently magical, have similar stats to Asgardian Elves, but are not ALL supernatural, just Supernatural PS and MDC, but technically they're just space aliens not actually supernatural beings. Or should they be supernatural beings?

High Elves doesn’t say they are supernatural; just that they have stats similar to a demigod. Also, they can be a borg under O.C.C. choices.
Since their regeneration is only hourly and they have no other otherworldly abilities besides Strength they are just a powerful debee like Star Elves

Supernatural Creatures, besides possibly having supernatural attributes, often have other abilities like magic or psychic powers naturally; melee turns quick regeneration; some weakness to mundane materials or types of attacks, etc
To add to the confusion, some superheroes, when they come to Rifts are considered Supernatural Beings depending on what major powers (or O.C.C.) they were
