I guess I'll ask again in THIS thread...Anyone got any large industrial maps/blueprints?Been into HL2-standalone-mods but also remembered I was never able to find any realistic industrial maps that could be used for my games (either something usable with min cleanup or something that I can remake in a mapmaker)
>>94690161I tried to do a simple port, but magic breaks RED in half. You'd need to come up with brand new roles because a lot of "class features" in RED are just invalidated by spells.
You guys have recommendations for making character handles? I can come up with a dozen concepts but Fixer PC 2 and Solo 4 aren't really catchy.
>>94692755Mr/Miss BlankTake names from gun brands or calibres. For fixers, come up with synonyms for drugs and corpo speak
>>94692755There are a few schools of thought, I use two of them. The military method, and the Matrix method.-Military nicknames/handles are a direct jab at something stupid the person did.So a guy called Tomahawk might be called that because he nicked himself trying to shave his nuts with a hatchet. Then there's the Matrix method, where you pile up a bunch of philosophy books and home electronic manuals, then pick a random word from one of them. This is how you got characters called Cypher, or Apoc.
Was there any other art of the guardian ACPA (or most power armor in general)? I was thinking of using one of these as a boss against my players
Any recommendations for what cyberware a medtech in 2020 should take? Ironically enough the team's solo is melee oriented so I was planning on styling this guy as a trauma team security specialist, but even then I'm not really sure what to chrome him up with.
>>94698911Eyesight stuff for seeing effectively in any condition.
>>94696598There probably isn't any more art of that model in particular, which is a shame. I like his little slugger bat. It doesn't seem like the Guardian is in Firestorm either (pic rel, the cover art for ch1 but those are Standard C's https://<files.>catbox<.moe>/e05m9z.pdf). If you like these suit designs you'd probably really enjoy art/screencaps from Bubblegum Crisis and AD Police. You might be able to get some art from Armored Trooper VOTOMs (those are more small mecha than suits) and the Starship Troopers ova. Maybe Mekton or the official Bubblegum Crisis game might have other similar designs too.

>>94689284Question for CPK2020 players, does armor SP works against damage dealt by Martial Arts/Brawling attacks and Blunt weapons like clubs ?
>>94703921Yes. I could have sworn there was some weird rule about melee bypassing some armor but I looked through a couple books and they don't seem to have any special interactions
>>94703244So ideally foundry vtt is a locally hosted virtual tabletop that I'd run from my PC and send invites to anon's who are down to play. I'm not sure how it works exactly, I know roll20 had an invite link so maybe this has something similar. Foundry vtt has an integration for RED which would be cool since if I tell anon his tech got shot for 14 damage he'd be able to just type that in and it should automatically calculate his remaining HP and armor. We can play with voice or text, whatever chooms prefer. Generally I use text for story but voice for ooc, rule explanations, and light jokes. If there is a spectator mode other anon's are free to spectate and maybe even suggest plot twists and turns to hit the players with (one of my job ideas is essentially Twitch-streamed runs where the job may get worse as chat makes demands of the runners and they have to comply to get more eddies, it could be great if chat was actual anons). My best days to game are Friday evening -Sunday.

A couple of questions about borgs. Firstly since they don't have a digestive system how if at all do bull body conversions eat? And then how far is too far with implanted weapons? Would a built-in version of the 12 gauge pistol suffice or should you go full force with an auto-shotty?
>>94712784It gives me hope that James finally got the memo that Red's balance is terrible and is walking back stuff like the armor penalties.
>>94712784Burst fire is probably one of the best mechanics they've come up with. >>94715174For the knife it can set 2 different enemies on deadly fire (4 damage) so someone could stun-lock enemies by keep lighting them on fire and forcing them to spend their action to put themselves out, while still taking fire damage. An incendiary grenade works too but this is infinite re-use. Also if the referee wants to be a huge dick they could say that doing anything while set on fire is a complex taskYour hardened netrunner boss is a very good idea. Even at rank 8 (since nobody is allowed to get to rank 10 unless you're Johnny or Rache, even 2077 Adam is Solo 9) you get 4 attacks via drones/turrets per turn and could realistically have +18's. I saw the rocket kick mentioned in the other thread and thought it was cool that players can essentially have an 'infinite' 7d6 attack to reshape the environment with by smashing stuff. I do agree shields are pretty ass (cover is too, but it's free). Maybe cover/shields only get destroyed if they take enough damage to be destroyed in one shot (this could be an invented tech-upgrade)? In that situation a heavy handgun breaks a normal shield 50% of the time but the new shield only 5% of the time (but gets 2 tries), a very heavy handgun breaks an old shield 83% of the time and the new ones 33% of the time, and don't even ask about rifle/slugs. Even the new shield gets destroyed 70% of the time.>>94716232It's kinda nuts for only 2,000eb (after tech-upgrade, so maybe another 1,000eb to pay your techie) you can get SP17 -3 armor penalty metal gear, vs 5,000eb for SP18 -4 armor penalty. Actually it's really interesting to compare light metalgear to flak. By the normal rules if you tech-upgraded flak you could get either +1 SP (16 SP) or -1 armor penalty (-3). But since light metalgear is invented, it gets both and doesn't even have a drawback? Pretty cool to know.
>>94716090Are you referring to 2020 or RED? I can help with RED. For the most part FBC's don't have mouths (file related). For lifestyle they need good prepak (600eb) or else they can't heal, and a single glucose injection every month (100eb). The gemini FBC (think the Major from Ghost in the Shell) could eat if it means fitting in for a social setting but would probably have to evacuate the food shortly after. If you want to taste food, you could get the Neutongue from Interface RED vol 2.The core book has popup grenade launcher (1 ammo, can only be smartlinked), melee weapon (any light-heavy melee), and ranged weapon (must be one-handed but need not concealable) (also these are all 2 upgrade slots). Black Chrome gave us the popup shotgun (shotgun with half ammo, can only be smartlinked and takes up 3 upgrade slots). Finally in Cyberpunk Edgerunners Mission Kit we got Mantis Blades (popup excellent heavy heavy blades for the same price as normal popups) and monowire (popup heavy weapon that can be used up to 6m/3 squares away and you can roll crits twice and pick your fav option). So an implanted very heavy pistol is perfect (normally they can't be concealed unless tech-upgraded), and you can go for heavy firepower with implanted grenade launchers and shotguns. The biggest benefit to FBC's is their foundational cyberware slots double, so a standard arm on a FBC has 8 upgrade slots instead of 4. That means you could get 2 shotguns and a grenade launcher, 4 grenade launchers, or if you tech-upgrade for an extra slot you could have 3 shotguns. Technically in Danger Gal Dossier there are tech-upgraded -1 slot weapons, too.As for better bigger weapons you'd have to consult your referee and either be a tech or be prepared to pay for one's services. I think a pop-up assault rifle with 12 rounds is fair, you'd get in one autofire or multiple attacks. Maybe there could be a torso mount that allows you to implant any shoulder/heavy weapon without drawbacks.
>>94716492It's way more useful to upgrade the light metalgear to have -1 penalty.
>>94717352Good point, instead of being +1/-1 flak it's +3/-0 heavy armorjack (still 3,000eb after tech fees but worth it). Armor penalties are brutal, all to chase a slightly higher stopping power (which seems pointless because even the core rulebook's basic goons all had poor quality shoulder arms dealing 18+ damage on average, and that's not even counting hardened mooks with 2 ranks in solo for +2 damage).
>>94717681I don't know what's more baffling - their ideas about how shields should work or their belief that the armour penalties are well balanced
>>94715174youre under rating the gun. its an excellent quality VH pistol with pretty much strictly better range band table - without being an exotic. for just 500eb. it might be boring but its actually quite good. and apparently there will be more like it in rusted chrome...
>>94718047I was just rereading the rules for shields and I really like the part where I can negate a single attack of my choosing for free (get fucked autofire) but if I'm reading this right it says that as long as I'm holding a shield I'm 'in cover' so does that mean that the second I get attacked the shield is basically destroyed? That sucks since this thing breaks from a strong wind. What we needed wasn't a stronger shield, it was a shield that I can activate as a free action to counter an attack like a yugioh trap card. I wouldn't mind spending an action on my next turn to drop my destroyed shield if it means I just negated an autofire from a tsunami arms helix. As for armor and penalties, it's pretty insane that the penalties are permanent even as the armor quickly degrades. And this was playtested where goons were armed with (poor) shotguns and assault rifles and 18 damage is the average. Maybe armor shouldn't degrade? This year's biggest bosses having armor heal (Adam Smasher and Reavy the Reaver) so it seems like something they're toying with. I know this option sucks for players who like heavy/9mm weapons but they need a jumpstart anyway (such as acid or grenades).

>>94721254You can choose not to use the shield and dodge. There's otherwise no reason not to use the shield against ranged attacks, since the opponent still has to hit your DV whether or not the shield is up.>When attacked by a target that you can see, you can interpose the shield between yourself and the attack. If you choose to do so, you cannot dodge the attack at all, though a Ranged Attack can still miss you due to your opponent's poor marksmanship. That said, anybody who invested sufficiently into evasion such that it's viable is probably better off just evading and having a free hand. The better use case of the ballistic shield is actually against melee attacks, because by nature the shield is practically the only source of cover you can use against a melee attacker, melee weapons have low damage (and their whole ignoring armor shtick doesn't matter against cover), and a PC with low evasion can use it to block a few hits.
>>94726526I'm 99% certain that you're right and I'm retarded (I ran this game for 2 years and thought the railgun could shoot straight through light armorjack at full SP because that makes way more sense than a 5,000eb borg gun being defeated by mint condition 100eb armor, and god forbid if you tech upgrade that armor to 12sp...). What's throwing me off is>while you wield a shield with HP remaining, you are considered to be in coverand>The other method of getting somebody "out of cover" is removing the cover itself using something really fun, like a grenade (but the cover sidebar story has a sniper destroying thick concrete with 2 sniper rounds)That's why I think that having a shield out would make you 'in cover' and why anyone shooting you would have to destroy the shield first. But if I was running I would certainly let a player have a shield out but not be in cover so it could be saved for better attacks. But I don't know, these kinds of unclear rules suck.
>>94701845I would also like to play red.
>>94727177The way I'm reading it, the intent is that it works with the Golden Rule of Cover by allowing the player to interpose the shield when wanted, but I get what you meant that the rules are a uncertain. The railgun (as well as the BMG-500, a LMG, having zero advantage except its ammunition capacity) are both a product of a very minimalist approach to gun design prevalent in the early design. They've started to get around it, judging by the tech conversions in the Edgerunners Mission Kit.

>>94728735>>94728699they dont, in my opinion, do a spectacular job outlining where youd find net arches, what theyre used for, standard protocols for corporate, personal and civil net arches, nor how defending them is handled.the biggest contradiction is that, explicitly, when you jack in the daemon is immediately aware of you. which is strange - shouldnt you be able to fool such things with authentication codes like passwords? but more importantly, it means that even the cheapest, most retarded retard should be able to rig a very simple alarm operated by the daemon to go off the exact moment a netrunner jacks in. that should be way more of a priority over black ice, because the runner has to be physically present in the location, and runners are always going to be more vulnerable in meatspace.beyond that theres just not, as i said, any real guidelines on encounter design for runners specifically. its worth noting that this wasnt actually addressed in any of the official adventures, nor a dlc, nor did black chrome feature any new runner gear of note. Ironically, the Agent hacking they added is 1 wireless 2 easy and 3 very, very fruitful, and doesnt at all require a runner.i think perhaps theyre aware that things didnt quite land with running, and they might have been at the drawing board for a second shot at it for some time.

>>94728699>>94728710>>94728794Netrunning in Red blows because it's a complicated ruleset for the benefit of usually a single player. Running Netrunning creates more work for the GM and slows down the game without adding much to it, since most tasks achievable by the netrunning are simpler and easier to achieve by other roles. A tech can pick a lock, a solo can shoot down a turret. Hell anyone can technically "Hack" a computer RAW with Electronic/Security checks, guessing someone's password or whatever instead of going through the hassle of fighting monsters in computer land.Quickhacking solves this issue by just turning Netrunners into wizards and giving them a bunch of crowd control spells, integrating the role into combat. But still the alpha version of Netrunning has it's issues like the bloated amount of rolls and the uselessness of the lower tier hacks compared to the higher tier ones that are busted. Every Netrunner encounter devolves into spamming Puppet/System reset since they're virtual instakill states the target can't even defend themselves against because of the way ICE/Jacking Out works.I really hope the "Deep Diving" rules are treated as an optional subsystem, because you just know they're gonna be a hassle to run.

Is the Jumpstart kit a good place to start?
>>94730230I don't mean to cry skill-issue, but RED running is super simple and fast. If your GM has a NET Architecture prepared (or several to slot in if you end up looking to run somewhere unexpected) and you're both familiar with the rules it can take less time than any other combat turn. That's because ICE an NET rules are fully deterministic. Here's a quick flow for netrunning newbies. If you know how many NET actions you can take you know what you're going to do on any of the following:1. Jack in Turn (Non-Combat Lobby): If you drop into a NET and you don't immediately face a Skunk, Wisp or Killer, you have set up time. You rez programs and pathfind to plan your next turns in advance.2. Jack in Turn (Combat Lobby): If you run face-first into ICE, you should have a low-setup combat flow in mind. For my Runner, she skips rezzing Armor or Speedy and immedately begins applying two Swords a turn to minimize the lifetime of the ICE. Other runners might eat/avoid the initial effects and choose to Slide. In either case, when you get clear, you have time to rez programs and pathfind.3. Descending Turn (Non-Combat): After you Pathfind, you know if you need to be Backdooring, Controlling or Eye-Deeing for each node ahead of you and can be ready to do your rolls when your turn comes around. You can use what you learn during your turn and maybe change your current plan, but a lot of your turn can be preplanned.4. Descending Turn (Combat): If you know there is Black ICE ahead for you to deal with, you'll set up on the floor before to move in on a fresh initiative turn (unless you're strongly crunched for time, in which case you're likely winging it to begin with).5. Cleanup/Work Turns: If you know you've taken care of all the ICE or know you have control of nodes you want to use, you just start doing stuff on your turn according to whatever your goals. Run turrets, go back and open back up files you skipped. Then you Virus if desired, Cloak and Jack Out.

>>94734838I think a ROF2 5d6 weapon for 50eb is a little insane considering there is a canon ROF2 5d6 weapon for 5,000eb. I get the drawback is 'it only has 2 ammo' but for 50eb I'd just have like 5+ of them. Pic related. There is that canon excellent sniper rifle for 100eb (because it is bolt-action so takes 2 actions to shoot) so I'd consider that for weapons like this.I am a big fan of rolling and dropping the worst dice so Bubba's Boolets could be cool. Unrelated, but how bad is tech-upgraded +1 damage bullets? That's like spending 60IP on going rank 1 solo. It's not that insane.I've thought a lot about AM rifles. It's not a bad idea. It would be funny if the AM only worked on 'big' targets, like vehicles or gonks with 10+ body. If the rounds are proprietary and are flechette that could be cool. I know purists hate going above 5d6 damage but on average 5d6 is 21-ish damage, like that's bad but not a OHKO.I don't think micromissiles need to be downscaled in power. In Tales of the RED we had the Clown's nose and the Monk's crucifix being 'tech upgraded' armor-piercing grenades, so smaller but just as deadly is a thing. And from my reading in 2020 there were tons of bad guys with micromissile pop-ups. I do really like the shoulder-mounted stuff. Autofire definitely sucks (especially considering the benefit of autofire is even children can hit a target, not the bonus damage). But expending ammo for a bonus is a mechanic ever since CEMK so I like the idea. I actually did float the idea for my players to reduce their autofire weapons by one to make a grenade-wide effect but nobody took me up. I think they just wanted to kill enemies 1v1, they were sociopaths.
>>94728699Netrunning is definitely made more complex than it needs to be. Basically, when you jack-in to a NET you can go anywhere UNLESS there is a Password node (movement is not an action, it's free but will trigger ambushes). You'd have to spend one of your NET actions to beat the password to get past it. Then you can go anywhere until the next Password node.If you enter a floor that has a Black ICE (including the first floor) you roll your Speed (Interface, maybe a bonus from Speedy Gonzalez) vs the Black ICE's speed. Failure means you get hit. Some Black ICE are really good at ambushes but suck at real combat. Also some BI can only hit 'humans' (netrunners) others only hit programs (such as Speedy).Besides the initial ambush, you can ignore Black ICE. BI attack at the start of every turn, but if you're confident in dodging them (their 1d10+Atk vs your 1d10+Interface) just ignore them. Black ICE will attack you every turn, but you can spend an action once/overall turn to Slide (this means one single Black ICE goes dormant on the floor where you were before you slid, this isn't so great if the NET has a LOT of Black ICE).Control nodes affect the real world and means the system has a daemon. If you can get to a control node and take it over (beat the DV) it means the daemon can't use it. If you were in a hallway with a turret and couldn't advance because of being shot, that means the hallway is safe and the daemon is seething. Data nodes are just lore bits, personally if I have a NET where the daemons know not to shoot certain people these nodes are where those people's info would be.Viruses are insane. The DV10/2 NET action virus to make a control node """"malfunction"""" has insane potential. Make a Militech turret "malfunction" by shooting Militech employees. Make a camera "malfunction" by showing a loop of the last 10 minutes so your crew can waltz past without issue. It's left open-ended for you.
>>94735196You should know that if you leave a Demon alive they'll Zap you with spare NET actions every turn. If you steal the control node from them you're going to be eating another Zap each turn until they're destroyed. Also the GM determines the DV and time taken for a Virus

It’s sad that Cyberpunk 2013 had the best hacking and that’s because on top of a Shadowrun-like system where you went through a flowchart, there was a rock-paper-scissors thing with different programs beating other ones. That gets dropped in 2020 for more rolls but the new programs don’t have explicit weaknesses.
>>94734326Yeah but the "computer hacker fantasy" is lame bullshit rooted in william gibson not understanding how computers actually work and taking a metaphor for cyber security literally. It's 2025, we know how computer hacking actually works. It's mundane shit like stealing passwords and uploading malware, not sneaking into magical computer land and fighting monsters to find some treasure that's actually a 4kb txt file. You can already do realistic hacking via the Electronics/Security checks. Netrunning rules are already kinda redundant RAW, except for the fact it takes less time to do Netrunning then physically hacking a computer/device and if that's the case, why not just give Netrunners the ability to instantly hack computers via checks instead of going through all the gay ass Reboot shit that drags sessions to a grinding halt? The CEMK already does this and it works fine. Also combat is a in depth mechanic because the game revolves around exciting action sequences and everybody has to learn the rules and take part. Netrunning is a system that has even more depth and rules associated with it, but only one player usually gets to take part. It takes a huge chunk of the book and most players/GMs don't even bother learning the rules. It's a waste of time and effort and I think the game would be better off expanding on other rules players actually use instead of the niche subsytem only a small percentage of the playerbase actually cares about. That's why deep diving should be presented as an optional mechanic in later additions, with more simple, Quickhack based netrunning being the default. Not everybody wants a complex ruleset forced on them that makes the class otherwise useless if you ignore it. Seriously surgery and fixing complex machinery is treated as a skill roll, but for some fucking reason we NEED to make turning off some cameras as complicated as possible.
>>94734981>There is that canon excellent sniper rifle for 100eb (because it is bolt-action so takes 2 actions to shoot) so I'd consider that for weapons like this.Bolt Action guns should be treated like Tech Weapons. It takes Action OR Movement to cycle the bolt. There's still a downside of not being able to both Fire and Move every turn, but sustained fire is possible if you hunker down outside an Enemy's line of sight. I think this better reflects how a Bolt Action Weapon are used IRL, you can also apply this logic to Crossbows, which RAW have unlimited Ammo Capacity with no downsides, which makes no sense to me.

>>94734075A better formatting than corebook, some rules about playing in 70s most of which you can backport into vanilla RED, and lore about Edgerunners.
Why is the core book for red so expensive? I like physical books before you ask
>>94742982Physical books have become luxury extras in the age of PDFs.
>>94742982the pdf is better in this case, one of the designers is an autist about in-document links, so with the pdf you can actually click on things like the page number in a citation (of which there are many) and immediately go to that page. the core book is a poorly formatted disaster so this is essentially necessary
Tried out RED a couple years ago and had to swap to Shadowrun because there just wasn't enough gear for my group. Not only guns (although that was a sticking point) but also normal gear like myomer wire or drones. Has more stuff like that been added to RED since Black Chrome?
>>94747132Oh really? Damn, I dont like pdfs generally but that does sound better.
>>94748096There's been quite a few DLCs with gear that are free on RTG's website and a few pdf splat exclusives. If you want to get an overview, they have a "Night Market Index" PDF on the DLC page that lists all the officially printed gear and where it's from. That can probably give you an idea how much extra there is now.
>>94748096Since 02/23 the biggest additions to the games gear-wise would be the two Christmas DLC's, Toggle's Temple for more gunporn, Danger Gal Dossier was actually a techie upgradeporn book, Interface vol 3 gave us Full-Body Conversions back, and the recent 2077 Cyberpunk Edgerunner's Mission Kit has cool 2077 tech like smart/power/tech weapons and neuroports/quickhax. Back to Danger Gal real quick, some of my favorite tech upgrades include excellent +1 gear (their example was a video camera), rank 4 skill chips (although these were only language chips, no reason it couldn't apply to more explosive skills), cyberware to take up 1 less slot (the grenade launcher in this case), +1 Body internal linear frames, and ammunition (expansive ammo that now deals a bonus crit if it crits at all) or even weapon upgrades (a drum magazine that can mix ammo types, no idea how that works). Personally I say of the best content will still come from fan homebrews. One of our anons penned several books for ACPA, drones and eurotech that might just be the power level you're looking for. I've collected his homebrews here https://bit<dot>ly/cyb0rg4n4rch1st (just translate the 1337sp34k) and some other cool bits.
Any idea for the stats of duplex bullets (in the 2020 FNFF system)? I remember RTAL did that big book of modern guns for a bunch of different game systems but I don't think there were rules for weird ammo like these
>>94749101Ammo that penalizes players for dodging instead of staying still would be a pretty funny prank, perhaps for a one-off tech badguy (or gunnut bozo) who loves history. When these were first being tested in the 50's they didn't work in conventional warfare (where soldiers are slow and couldn't do backflips mid-fight) but now the meta is cocaine, reflex co-processors and sandivestans so a rifle shooting an aimed bullet and a bonus 'wild card' bullet counters Neo. In RED I would be a total dick and stat it as -2 'complex task' penalty to Evasion in general, and even add the '-2 first time' penalty on the first attacks made that turn (note that this only applies to evasion, so a player can just not dodge and instead move closer so the assault rifle becomes less accurate, at least according to RED). It's a fool-proof plan because NPC's don't dodge, so even if the crew invents these bullets for themselves it's useless to them.
So what is the best way to make netrunning good? I have wanted to try my hand at running 2020 and I've heard through the grapevine that it's version of netrunning is the most bad. I was already planning on porting the RED quickhacks over because they seem fun
Putting together a 2020 game/campaign for some friends, curious about how you've done things in the past, and which mechanics you use.>Vehicles>How do you run vehicle combat/chases/races in your games? Do you find them fun to use in your games? What worked and what didn't work? Which vehicle systems do you use from the books? The vehicle system in the core rulebook seems pretty underwhelming. The one in Maximum Metal looks interesting, but have heard from a couple other people that it can be a bit cumbersome.>Player HQs and homebases>How have these worked in your games? Was it a reward, or something the players collectively/privately purchased? What did they do with it? How did it work out?One of my players is inheriting a bar from his dead Rocker dad. It's been empty for awhile - mostly because of legal crap et al - and has fallen a part a bit. Some pushers have taken to using it as a dealing spot and flop house, while some less savory strangers are making use of the basement. Initially it's going to need clearing out of junkies, debris and whatever else is in there, before they can even begin repairing and renovating. Thinking of using Forlorn Hope minus the 1st level. Is this too much of a boon? I figured that the work it will need to be nice, plus the pissed off Pusher's response might balance it out a bit.Speaking of creatures in the basement, I thought having a gang of exotics made to look like rats. They get some kind of brain dance mental conditioning and/or some behavioural chipware to act more rat-like, and to be completely subservient to their creator.>What strange/cool gangs have you thrown against your players or come up against?
>>94749770My biggest issue with Red's netrunning is the constant opposed dice rolls. I gave black ice set defense DV's (6+defense value) and it cut netrunning time in half and the runner could make her turns faster than the rest of the team fighting in meatspace. Outside of combat+netrunning this can also make player vs ref netrunning really fast so it doesn't make the other players feel left out. Also core rulebook netrunning is too long and even 'easy' net architecture have 10+ floors. Starting with Tales of the Red most netarch became much shorter (4-6 floors) with more challenging single or double black ice, or the floor has a dedicated node (control, password, data, etc). The problem is any netarch random generator you find online will be based off the core rulebook. But don't worry. Just make your standard netarch 4-5 floors long. 1-2 floors are dedicated to why you're even running the net in the first place (control nodes for doors and turrets, a data node, etc). Other floors are passwords or black ice (when your netrunner player gets talented enough I really like hellhounds, killers and a giant on the final floor but you can start with wisps and asps). That being said, the rare huge netarch can be done. In fact it's a huge advantage for the local system admin who can run up to the player on their turn, hit 'em with their programs and then flee before a counterattack. If you are porting Red to 2020 the one difference is 2020 had dataforts (mazes) and red has the branching path elevator, but technically if you squint they're the same. If you have a lot of empty floors maybe you limit movement to the runner's role or something. Also I think in 2020 you could drill through walls so that could be a once/run program.Pic unrelated but Petrochem and Sovoil are both seething.
>>94749870>My biggest issue with Red's netrunning is the constant opposed dice rollsThey repeated that issue with Quickhacking too. Granted it's not nearly as bad, but I don't understand why they didn't just treat Self ICE like a Shield, since that's how it works in the 2077 vidya.
>>94750239yeah quickhacking doesn't quite work, the fact that you roll to avoid being detected, only to automatically be detected when you cast your technospell, is only made more retarded by what happens after - a roll to push you out that is. basically never going to come out in your favour. did they forget that skills add stat bonuses and interface doesn't?
>>94750262The way I see it is Quickhacking sucks at lower Netrunner levels, but is busted at the higher levels. It's very unbalanced like alot of stuff in Red and encourages spamming a couple of specific options and ignoring all the trash.Once you get your Netrunner level high enough to reliably hit DV12 hacks, you can basically insta kill targets who have no real defence against it, since kicking out a target requires an action and both puppet and system reset prevent you from taking your next turn. Also yeah, Interface should probably get a bonus from INT, since it's otherwise a dump stat for most players. You'd just have to increase the hack DVs to compensate.
>>94727502>>94727177Corebook pg 183Equipping and dropping a shield takes an Action. While you are using a hand to carry a shield, it cannot be used to do anything else. A shield is a movable source of cover, and while you wield a shield with HP remaining, you are considered to be in cover. When attacked by a target that you can see, you can interpose the shield between yourself and the attack. If you choose to do so, you cannot dodge the attack at all, though a Ranged Attack can still miss you due to your opponent's poor marksmanship. The shield takes the entire attack to its HP.If a shield hits 0 HP it is destroyed (until repaired if inorganic), and cannot be used as cover, though it still remains equipped to your hand until you use an Action to drop it.Different anon here, quick explanation>When attacked by a target that you can see, you can interpose the shield between yourself and the attack>You can interpose>canNot >you have toOn the sidenote, I think they did shields dirty, they're only viable in a popup form and only to annoy autofire users, maybe melee bros if they dont use 3d6 ROF2.
Player rolled a friend in their life events. They described them as a child he saved from a gang trying to recruit or harass them.I want to make this NPC be some kind of android/corp experiment that has been around for awhile.Anyone used android or "fake" NPCs before?
>>94750762I've considered playing one before; AFAIK this kind of thing is super illegal however, so you probably want to treat it as serious biz.Decide what corp made them, why they made them and how they got found out on the street. Whatever the reason is going to turn them into either a job, a super important contact or both. Also hold on to that secret for a bit; it'll have a lot more impact if it doesn't come out right away. Just don't turn around and make them like a (willing) corporate spy or (effective) sleeper agent, your player will probably be rightly peeved with you if their 'friend' turns out to be an enemy without adequate warning.
>>94750780>Decide what corp made them, why they made them and how they got found out on the street.Really good points. The corp that made them will be in the prototyping phase of creating "Real children". Essentially ripping off the movie "A.I.". The "why" would be they created a series of these as prototypes, dropped them into all different kinds of scenarios to see what happens, with plans to future collect them all for analysis.I don't plan on them becoming an enemy or anything. When the corp comes to collect them, the player can decide if they want to protect them or rescue them if the corp does get their hands on them.
>>94750853Solid. Though expect hard questions from your players on a few things-- you're not going to be required to give them answers and maybe it'd be more devious if you didn't, but if you have say, a Tech player who wants to know more about them for one reason or another, you want to not have to guess.A. Are these 'Real Children(tm)' actually sentient, thinking machines? NetWatch would really really not like that, but I can see the niche still for the ultra rich on the down-low.B. Is there an ulterior motive for the production of robot children? Are they going to be used for intelligence gathering? Could it pave the way for deep-cover assassinations? Even if no sinister conspiracy is currently ongoing, the implications of letting the technology go ahead could be severe.C. Does keeping the android from its 'masters' have real implications? Are they desperate for test data, or is one less robot child an acceptable loss?Of course if none of this comes up, it's still plenty enough to just have a side gig to help roboboy disappear/sell him out for eddies; but keep an eye on your players to see if they're interested in where the rabbit hole goes.
>>94750907>A. Are these 'Real Children(tm)' actually sentient, thinking machines? NetWatch would really really not like that, but I can see the niche still for the ultra rich on the down-low.My gut tells me they would have to be sentient. Could be that from the prototypes they've released, they have them setup differently: Some fully sentient and others with the illusion of sentience. The sentient ones having different "memories" to encourage particular types of personalities.>B. Is there an ulterior motive for the production of robot children? Are they going to be used for intelligence gathering? Could it pave the way for deep-cover assassinations? Even if no sinister conspiracy is currently ongoing, the implications of letting the technology go ahead could be severe. The "sales pitch" for this project would have been "replacement children", but you're right the implications of this are pretty crazy. This kind of technology is something that a lot of corps want to be the first to break into, but are held back laws. Similar to cloning irl. The 'Real Children(tm)' would have to have some kind of failsafe to prevent the discovery of this project. Maybe they have pre-programmed responses to detectors that would reveal what they are, if they are injured in a way that exposes their true nature, they could have some kind of in-built self-destruction function.>C. Does keeping the android from its 'masters' have real implications? Are they desperate for test data, or is one less robot child an acceptable loss? They would want to collect as many of these as possible. After some kind of timer triggers, or when the data the 'Real Children(tm)' has collected meets a particular criteria, they shut down and emit a signal to be tracked. Or they are compelled to travel to a pre-determined destination. In any case, the corp wants a return on investment. What the PCs end up doing with the kid once this information is revealed to them is anyone's guess
>>94728794RED's demons are kinda like IRL programming daemons which are just background processes not seen by the end user, they're not intelligent.Remember that RED demon's priority is to operate physical defences such as turrets, drones, traps and dealing with Netrunner is just a thing it does ONLY IF it has still Net Actions remaining after using as many as possible at Controling Nodes. It's just dumb auto-pilot for turrets, not something that monitors the Net architecture.I think the rule of being aware of Netrunner is just there to clear out any misunderstandings on how it should behave mechanically and the devs simply ignored the in-universe consequences of putting that line.
>>94737762I don't agree, but I get you. Having hacking be a specific subsystem based on VR-like cyberspace is definitely a remnant of a past... but then again the whole genre is.

I got questions about roles because a lot of them seem to blur with each other. Like Solo and Lawman work for different people but they're both guys with big guns and combat tech. Corporate, Rockerboy, Media, and Fixer seem to all be about leveraging connections/serving as the face. And Nomad feels more like a background than a role, the guide book even says how a nomad pack can have medics and mechanics in it.

In red they're more vague and like a set of powers (solo, tech, netrunner) or resources/network (fixer, exec, media, lawman). If you are playing red and want examples you can check out Danger Gal. Looking at the NCPD you have a solo cyberpsycho, the lawman who is probably one day from retirement but will still stick his nose into crime, and a media detective (probably benefiting most from rumors but maybe his biggest arrests actually affect societal change in Night City?). The FAQ from a few years ago had a section for re-imagining the roles.I think 2020 played around with subverting expectations, pic related is a fucking media but he looks like the terminator. Anyway for Red at least think of a role as a bonus ability. Solo's can deal a lot more damage if they crack armor (great for hardened mooks with 2 ranks in solo), a nomad can be any car enthusiast but has to respect his 'clan' or get his car privileges revoked, a 'lawman' is a part of an organization and is given manpower but has to respect his org's wishes and goals, or at least be clever.
Are your groups online or IRL? How did they come about?

>>94759969>Maybe they had some collaboration with CDPR during 2077's development? They barely did, which is why the CEMK came out so stupidly long after 2077, Edgerunners, and Phantom Liberty. The 2077 splat is still an "eventually", to boot, and they don't seem to be prioritizing it since we're already getting teases for Rusted Chrome. RTG genuinely didn't think people would rather play in the 2070s instead of what RED offers, despite the development of those two running in parallel.
>>94759969>pretty much every single one wanted to play due to the anime.Weird thought the anime was entertaining but not particularly stand out. I figured the game would get more people into it but I've only played 2077 after 2.0
>>94759969>>94760839its a threefold issue>rtal is slow and working on a few different things>CDPR is actually very possessive of their side of license and only lets rtal know things very near to when they become public>rtal genuinely did not anticipate 2077s successwe know rusted chrome is next and have known this for a while, theres also the NC 2045 sourcebook this year. next year is the full 2077 sourcebook. all of these are more or less a year overdue. luckily for rtal, there will be a second 2077 game and probably a second 2077 anime, so theyll eventually manage to strike the iron when its hot, by coincidence if not by design.speaking of, i wonder what the interface will be this year? i hear tell that it is definitely NOT acpa this year but i cant remember if gray said what it actually is going to be.
>>94760839>RTG genuinely didn't think people would rather play in the 2070s instead of what RED offersSource? Are they just being willfully ignorant at this point or do they just dislike the 2077 setting? The CEMK was very well recieved and sold like hotcakes despite being a very short book with not much new content. I get they have a whole pipeline of Red splatbooks in production, but it seems like they're draggin their heels as much as possible to avoid working on a proper 2077 book.
>>94762657Maybe it's about them not wanting to put work into setting they have to ask CPRED permission to work on.
>>94690875>>94760590I used the oil refinery from MGSV for a nomad encampment in my last campaign, I don't have the version I'd drawn over it, but I'm sure you'd be able to do better.
First real session of CPR tonight, was fun. Taking out the netrunner with the microwaver went well without a hitch; almost makes me feel bad for asking other party members to pack EMP grenades just in case.
>>94764470grenades are an incredible investment, theyll find some use. i love smoke and flashbang as force multipliers for the weaker party members to throw, but frankly incendiary, AP, and shuriken grenades output amazing damage for a low skill investment in athletics
>>94764927While they deal damage also, it's best to consider incendiaries as a crowd control tool. A lot of people/enemies don't want to be taking more damage after eating grenade damage, so they'll often move to cover and put themselves out, but that eats action economy.
>>94763341I figured as much, working with a big licence like 2077 would be a pain at the best of times, I can't imagine how spergy the CDPR loremasters get when they've got another game in pre production. But still, the game has been out for over 4 years at this point, it got an anime and comics and a bunch of other related media produced. Surely it doesn't take that long to get a 2077 splatbook greenlit, even with going through CDPR's monolithic corpo bureacracy? Why not make a Red to 2077 conversion book that's light on lore, but heavy on mechanics? That way players don't have to homebrew 2077 shit, but you don't step on CDPRs toes regarding lore consistency. The CEMK seemed like a waste of time they could've spent working on a more substantial 2077 splatbook. Then they went straight back to making Hope Reborn ANOTHER low level campaign book. Who even runs premade campaigns outside of newbie GMs unfamiliar with the system?I just think they don't have their priorities straight and want to avoid touching the 2077 setting as much as possible. This is baseless speculation on my part, but the people in charge of Red seem like a bunch of weenies who hate violent, edgy content. With the Red setting they've got authorship and can sanitize the setting. With 2077 they can't get around not making it edgy, although they tried with CEMK giving everyone cringe backstories I hope aren't canon.

>>94765572You can run pretty much any system ignoring most of the established lore. If anything Red benefits from ignoring alot of the lore and just making up your own shit.
>>94765587>You can run pretty much any system ignoring most of the established lore. Why would RTG be interested in catering to that?
>>94765605Most of the supplementary material for Red is pretty light on lore, it's only the Corebook which is walls and walls of text, which lets be honest, very few people actually read.
>>94765727This is true, most people I've played with have played at least into the 2050s/2060s as kind of a middle ground between 2020 and 2077.If you're a little generous on what's randomly available (without obsoleting Fixer and Maker Roles) it does that rather well: The economy isn't quite mad max, but demand has risen drastically with supply and you kinda have to get your nice stuff out of odd lots if you don't make it or know a guy.
>>94765745>This is true, most people I've played with have played at least into the 2050s/2060s as kind of a middle ground between 2020 and 2077.Literally my campaign lol. If R.Tal are having trouble with CDPR being cunts with the licence, would making a 2nd edition of Red set in the 2050s or 60s work?I feel like there's some fun stuff you could work with like proto quickhacking that works differently to 2077 and a less restrictive economy.
>>94765775R. Tal think restrictive economy is a plus.
You guys are all silly. When my netrunner wants to hack something I just give him a couple mazes and crossword puzzles to do
For me it's forcing the netrunner to have virtual sex with the datafort's AI if he wants access to everything.
>>94770437Somebody post the sex rulebook I'll add it to the homebrew mega folder
>>94690875I do.
>>94770840Not sure if this is the most up to date version, I downloaded it in Sept '23 if anyones got something more recent
>>94771280Thanks. I'll try to check the archives too, but my archivefu isn't the best. I'm glad homebrewbro posted his most up to date editions, they should all be in >>94748809
>>94712784whats the difference between doing 7d6 twice or 14d6 mechanically? i want to do a combat version of those rocklin legs
>>94771680I'm going to speedrun this question since it's pretty simple, so you're just going to have to trust me on the work cause I'm not going to show it.7d6, ROF2:More consistent damage as it curves (hit-miss, miss-hit and hit-hit all deal damage, only on 2 misses will you have no chance at damage)Higher potential armor ablation from multiple instances of damagePossible but unlikely no-damage hits on SP>13.Reduced by armor twice, which will affect average damage even if it ignores half armorCalled Shots (at ROF1) have much lower damage potential14d6 ROF1:All or Nothing Damage (you miss or hit)Lower armor ablation from single hitsRequires theoretical SP>28 to block entirelyReduced by armor only onceCalled Shots have higher damage potential as a larger hit of damage past armor is doubledCaveat: 7df6 ROF2 is more damage than any weapon in the game per round and not by a little. The highest raw damage potential for melee is a linear frame martial artist dealing 4d6 ROF2 halving armor. I would strongly suggest bringing the damage more in line if you intend it to be in line with other options.
>>94768930Do they even listen to feedback? Every Red game I've played either simplifies the economy or just throws it out entirely.
>>94771451I sure do post each time anything significant is added. There will be changes to the expanded injuries, new table is... unbalanced. Shame not a single person pointed that out, which leads me to believe you guys either do not play RED, or (which is more likely) you simply does not play with my ruleset, which is fine. As for most up to date editions (versions) there is a link on the page 2 or 3 (depending on which document) that ALWAYS leads to the drive folder with new version. The link is permanent. There will also be new ACPA stuff, but I'll will not leak it since you never seem to answer.>>94771680You only get to subtract SP once. Since cover doesnt have SP for some reason, you can straight up roll 14d6 as concrete block cannot suffer a critical injury.>>94772225Idk man, I've seen more than a handful players rather embrace it than ignore. This being said, it's fairly simple:>Item is 100eb or lessBuy>Item is 500 or morePay 10% fee to a fixerBuy>Item is 5000 or morePay 20% fee to a fixerBuySimple as.Now I'll list all possible complications>Buying cyberwarePay a medtech to install it without asking questions if you obtained it illegallyInstallation is free if you obtained it legally>Sourcing items yourself if you are not a fixerRoll streetwise to find where item or a person capable of making one isIt does not necessairly find you a vendor willing to sell it, you might have to steal it.Now as far as selling goes I've got no fucking clue. I've read Corebook a few times and fail to recall a single information if there are limitations to selling anything. Interestingly I recall James saying there are no limitations to selling stuff (in one of JonJon series). How that works I have got no idea either. I mean for cheap items up to 100eb it is understandable that there is always someone willing to buy it. But should one be capable to straight up sell borg weapons on the street? Or a car that is more expensive than a full borg? Wack.
Running my first campaign and I’m trying to come up with some plot threads for my netrunner PC. She’s the daughter of a media who was silenced by an unknown corporation after uncovering a big secret. My PC is sort of a vigilante now and has an Alice in Wonderland theme going on, so I’d like to incorporate that into the campaign. She's trying to investigate why her mother was killed while doing edgerunner shit on the side. Maybe some kind of connection to some AI project. I did debate something related to a corporation trying to merge humans with AI like the end of Ghost in the Shell, but I'm blanking on ideas.
>>94772460IIRC, sourcing items over 100 eddies RAW requires you to either play a fixer or roll for items at a nightmarket. The whole thing of bringing in an NPC fixer is a common houserule to salvage the system, but doesn't seem to be supported in the corebook as far as I can tell and kinda defeats the purpose of night markets. The economy sucks because not only made it stupidly restrictive, they didn't bother clarifying how certain things like selling or sourcing items without a fixer worked.
>>94772824Black Chrome has a lot of fixes for that, including hiring fixers and so forth, but I strongly agree that this shit should have been in the core book.
